The article Timothy Fielder has been proposed for deletion because it appears to have no references. Under Wikipedia policy, all newly created biographies of living persons must have at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article.

If you created the article, please don't be offended. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Referencing for beginners, or ask at the help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within ten days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. The article Timothie Fielder has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Has not played at a fully professional level, nor won a major award or gained significant coverage in independent reliable sources for his performances at a lower level.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.

Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion template from the top of the article. The-Pope (talk) 05:08, 10 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome[edit]

Hi there, thank you for your contributions, but be aware that there are notability guidelines that decide which people are notable enough to have an article here. The ultimate decision is what we call the general notability guideline. "Significant coverage in independent reliable sources". So significant means not just a mention, or a team list, independent means not only in a club or league publication, and reliable sources means definitely not from a forum, blog or anything that isn't likely to be fact checked.

In terms of Australian rules footballers, the Australian rules football WikiProject has basically agreed that all AFL/VFL players (VFL meaning the old VFL, not the current VFL) are notable, but WAFL/SANFL/VFA/current VFL/TFL/QFL/etc players are only notable if they have been recognised in some way, such as winning a major award or playing a huge amount of games. Either way, there needs to be a lot of coverage of them, not just an article in a Footy Record or similar. So I can't see how Timothie Fielder meets these requirements. Getting the subject's approval or verification also isn't really valued here, as we need to reflect what has been reported elsewhere - we don't allow original research.

I hope that these initial teething problems don't discourage you from continuing to help out. It's great that you are trying to add references, don't give up on that, just have a look at my edits to Ryan Ferguson and Andrew Shipp to see how I changed the refs to be inline citations.

Finally, it's best not to publish your email address on your userpage or talk pages. There is a spot under "my preferences" where you can set an email address that lets people email you without actually seeing the address. If you need any help, reply here or on my talk page. In response to your feedback[edit]

I'm sorry the notes on the article made you sad. There's a couple of reasons why we prefer articles to reference reliable secondary sources. Firstly, primary sources or sources affiliated to the subject are more likely to contain bias and less likely to contain a balanced point of view which Wikipedia seeks to maintain. Secondly, the existence of secondary sources about the subject helps to demonstrate that the topic is noteworthy. If nobody who isn't affiliated with the subject has written about that subject, then chances are that nobody not affiliated with that subject would want to read about it either, so the article isn't noteworthy enough to warrant its own article on Wikipedia. In order to add some references to the article, why not try running a Google search for it and see what comes up? Or read more on the links given in the notices on the article.

Don't be discouraged. These notices are given to help improve articles, not to shut them down. Keep trying and maybe you will produce an excellent article.
