Your subscriptions with the Feedback Request Service

Hi Whiteguru! You're receiving this notification because you were previously subscribed to the Feedback Request Service for one or both of the Good Article nomination categories "Arts" and "Everyday life".

You may have noticed that the Feedback Request Service has been inoperative for a number of months, and Yapperbot is currently in the process of taking over from Legobot in performing the requests. In that process, the subscription categories have been updated to match the current categories used by the Good Articles project, and neither "Arts" nor "Everyday life" is used anymore.

What this means is:

  • If you were subscribed to "Arts", your preference has been transferred to Art and architecture as a new category, which you have automatically been opted in to. You may also be interested in Music and/or Media and drama; however, you have not automatically been opted in to these. If you wish to opt in to these, you should follow the process below.
  • If you were subscribed to "Everyday life", you have been unsubscribed entirely from that category, as the category is too vague to assign to any of the new, more specific, categories.

You are encouraged to review your FRS preferences to ensure that they match your interests; there are a number of new categories you can now opt in to additionally. To do this, you should:

  1. Go to the Feedback Request Service page.
  2. If you were previously subscribed to "Arts" and wish to unsubscribe from "Art and architecture", scroll to that subheading and remove your {{Frs user}} template.
  3. If you wish to subscribe to an additional category, you should do so by pasting {{Frs user|{{subst:currentuser}}|limit}} underneath the relevant heading, where limit is the maximum number of requests you wish to receive for that category per month.
  4. Publish the page.

Please note that any subscription preferences you had with the FRS for requests for comment have not been affected by these changes.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask on the Feedback Request Service talk page, or on Yapperbot's operator's talk page. Thank you!

Kate Baker article

Hi Whiteguru, thanks for accepting Kate Baker for GA review, I really appreciate it. Is there anything you feel I need to do? I am looking forward to seeing what you think of the article, and any areas I need to improve it. - Aussie Article Writer (talk) 22:50, 11 June 2021 (UTC)

  • Aussie Article Writer Have been busy off site; lockdown matters and easing of restrictions in Vic took precedence. Will be able to get to this today. Thank you --Whiteguru (talk) 21:18, 12 June 2021 (UTC)
    • Ah! Totally understood, stay safe. - Aussie Article Writer (talk) 01:32, 13 June 2021 (UTC)
      • Thank you for the review. Initially I disagreed with a number of your points, but then I reread them to be sure I wasn’t just being one-eyed about the material. And I was forced to conclude that actually I was being one-eyed. I have made some changes to correct the matters you brought up, thank you because it makes the article much better. In terms of balance, I still disagree and I have tried to show that I have only covered with the same balance as important secondary sources. I am concerned that in fact to do otherwise would caused a violation of WP:UNDUE. - Aussie Article Writer (talk) 20:47, 13 June 2021 (UTC)
        • Oh, and I feel I need to note that I really do appreciate your review. My disagreement on balance is in no way personal, and in fact I think it was a very reasonable concern you have flagged. It is only right that I justify the balance. Hopefully I have acquitted my case. If you disagree, then I respect your opinion and take it as a difference of opinion, without rancour. It may be that this causes it to fail GA, and I would not object to you doing so, but I would ask for a second opinion via an RFC. If this occurs, I wish to note that it would not be an affront but a way of soliciting feedback. - Aussie Article Writer (talk) 20:52, 13 June 2021 (UTC)
  • Aussie Article Writer I am going to express some caution here. I know Clem Furphy (and have worked with him, he was chair of the hospital board for many years) and Roger Furphy (I have met him and had talks with him), and have had neighbours who work at Furphys. I have been involved with the Furphy creative writing competition at the local library (Shepparton) and I have commissioned presentations on Furphy. See https://sheppartoninterfaith.org.au/?s=Furphy
  • I confess I felt a discomfort halfway through reviewing and took a break from reviewing the article to give myself some space for reflection to emerge. This is a bit unusual, for normally I conduct my reviews at full speed. Prima facie response. Not here. I was disappointed that I was unable to access Australian Literary Studies. My last step in reviewing was to read all of Burt and go hunting around in the London Gazette for the actual wording of the award. I downloaded the Arthur Upfield document, thank you for that reference. I am going to read all of it. Your comments are not going to fail the review; rather, we have had a healthy debate, and this is good. --Whiteguru (talk) 22:23, 13 June 2021 (UTC)
  • Oh wow! Please relay my great admiration for the Furphy family. Including their amazing water carts! I am happy to send you a copy of the ALS article if this is helpful. - Aussie Article Writer (talk) 22:57, 13 June 2021 (UTC)
  • Aussie Article Writer They are lovely fellows, huge and hearty. You would take an instant liking to them if you met them. --Whiteguru (talk) 22:59, 13 June 2021 (UTC)--Whiteguru (talk) 22:59, 13 June 2021 (UTC)

Article history template

Hey, I appreciate your work cleaning up so many GA templates by rolling them into the Article history template. When you do, please include the parameters |currentstatus=GA and |topic= (the topic from the GA template). Without those, the article gets dropped from some of the GA administrative categories, and the talk page no longer indicates that it's a GA. Thanks for the organizational work! -Bryan Rutherford (talk) 11:34, 14 July 2021 (UTC)

Short descriptions

Musicals and plays should not be described as "Broadway" or "West End" musicals or plays. That may be where they premiered, but stage works can be performed anywhere, and sometimes revivals are more significant than the premieres. It is better to describe them as "Musical by Rodgers and Hammerstein", or similar. -- Ssilvers (talk) 02:31, 15 July 2021 (UTC)

Aphrodite of Knidos

FYI, short description changed because of the silly 40 character limit. --John Maynard Friedman (talk) 13:13, 26 July 2021 (UTC)

  • John Maynard Friedman Yes, well, it may be silly. But. The driving reason is that the short description is displayed on the mobile access to the article in a search result. 65% of access to Wikipedia is now via mobile devices or tablets. (I suspect Wikimania might tell us a higher number...) The mobile display (and app) chop descriptions off at 40 chars. We have to live with change, aka, Cardinal Newman: Life is change, and to be perfect is to have changed often. --Whiteguru (talk) 21:08, 26 July 2021 (UTC)
    • There is no intrinsic reason to limit displays on mobile to 40 characters. Yes a substantial majority of visitors do so in mobile but a minority use the Wikipedia app. And the only reason that the app sets a 40 character limit is that it was specified that way. Anyway, sd-helper doesn't let me leave an edit note and I thought I should explain why I changed your SD immediately. --John Maynard Friedman (talk) 22:27, 26 July 2021 (UTC)

A tag has been placed on Ranu Shankar requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a real person or group of people that does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". Dates in short description

Hallo, WP:SDDATES says "The inclusion of a date or date range is encouraged where it would improve the short description as a disambiguation, or enhance it as a descriptive annotation. Generally that is the case at least for biographies, ..." Why did you remove the birth date from the short description for Alaa Maso? PamD 08:12, 30 July 2021 (UTC)

Date of birth is often one of the most useful ways to distinguish between people of the same name - "Ah, not the 1920s poet" etc. PamD 08:18, 30 July 2021 (UTC)
Out of curiosity I looked at Olympian Menzies Campbell: "Former Leader of the Liberal Democrats". Hmm, not exactly a global viewpoint: "UK politician (born 1941)" might be better - but there's a whole minefield around SDs and I don't want to get too involved. PamD 08:20, 30 July 2021 (UTC)
PamD If you don't like what I did, put the date back in yourself. I am following the Refugee Olympic Team here where I am the webmaster. My sensus plenior was that the date was not essential. --Whiteguru (talk) 08:24, 30 July 2021 (UTC)
I didn't want to get into an edit war, so asked a civil question: why did you remove the date. Just in case there was some policy agreement I didn't know about or which contradicted the advice I was reading.
By coincidence, I've just created the category Category:Refugee Olympic Team at the 2020 Summer Olympics, modelled on the 2016 one, and added it to the competitors listed at IOC Refugee Olympic Team at the 2020 Summer Olympics. The classic Wikipedia time-sink rabbit-hole which started from seeing an addition to the Opening Ceremony article which included a red link to Alaa Maso and inspired me to create an article for him. Hey there. First, thanks for working over at NPP, it's a huge help. Can you take a look at this article. I'm not sure of it's notability, and noticed you're part of the Australia project, so thought you might be able to evaluate it better. Thanks. Onel5969 TT me 21:07, 2 August 2021 (UTC)

  • onel5969 Thanks for the referral. There is an accuracy issue in the references, which I have tagged. Else, he has notability. Yesterday I was looking at some stats and found there were 700 editors with NPP privileges. I then looked at my watchlist, and went over the Page Triage log and found only 6 people - yourself included - were the only editors chipping away at NPP. I do go there from time to time. I'll do what I can when I can. Busy in real life. Cheers. --Whiteguru (talk) 22:20, 2 August 2021 (UTC)
Whiteguru, thanks for taking a look. If you don't mind, in those rare instances in Aussie articles, I might ping you again in the future. And yeah, NPP's a slog, and gets reviewers very little but grief, but somebody's gotta do it. Again, thanks for any contributions you can make over there. If even just 50 reviewers did 10 reviews a day, we'd get a handle on the queue. Onel5969 TT me 01:54, 3 August 2021 (UTC)

Hi, I'm Girth Summit. I wanted to let you know that I saw the page you reviewed, Anan Foundation, and have marked it as unreviewed. If you have any questions, please ask them on my talk page. Thank you.

(Message delivered via the Page Curation tool, on behalf of the reviewer.)

Girth Summit (blether) 16:21, 6 August 2021 (UTC)

Anan Foundation

Hi - you reviewed Anan Foundation earlier on. I'm looking at it now as part of a sockpuppet investigation: the URL for the 'official website' is a deadlink, the only source used doesn't mention the foundation anywhere, and Google is giving me nothing. Did you see something I missed? Stuff like this shouldn't be marked as reviewed - even if it wasn't created by a sock, this is not ready for article space. Girth Summit (blether) 16:26, 6 August 2021 (UTC)

Actually, I've just gone ahead and G5ed it - the user was very clearly a sock of a blocked master. I'm not trying to give you a hard time, just, you know - click on the links before marking something as reviewed. Girth Summit (blether) 16:40, 6 August 2021 (UTC)

Girth Summit Thank you for your messages. I would like to revisit my action here. Can you arrange for me to see that page? --Whiteguru (talk) 04:26, 7 August 2021 (UTC)

Hi - I've e-mailed you the text of the version of the article that you reviewed - if you put it into your sandbox and hit 'show preview', you'll be able to see what it looked like. Cheers Girth Summit (blether) 06:59, 7 August 2021 (UTC)
Girth Summit OK, thanks. Lesson learned. I stubbed it, and may have added the short desc. It was the last of 100 pages reviewed last night, many of which had been curated by others. Ta very muchly. --Whiteguru (talk) 07:07, 7 August 2021 (UTC)
You added the short desc and marked it as reviewed, so that Google picked it up (if you Google "Anan Foundation", with the quote marks, Google still points you at the now-deleted page). It's a school-kid in India, he's up to like 15 sock accounts so far this year, always spamming about himself or his foundation (which I don't believe exists, in any meaningful sense). If you see anything like that again please point me at it! Cheers Girth Summit (blether) 07:20, 7 August 2021 (UTC)
Girth Summit Just before I did this article, I was reading this and looking at some of the articles. I was appalled at some of the articles and how professional they looked, totally unaware of COI nor sock mastery. I looked at 17,18,19,20,21,22,23.24.... yes, If I walk into that again, I will let you know. Cheers --Whiteguru (talk) 07:36, 7 August 2021 (UTC)
Whiteguru, sheesh, that's a whole lotta socks. This is the Anan guy - nowhere near so many accounts, but enough to be annoying - I've just noticed that there were another three of his accounts found after I last night while I slept! Girth Summit (blether) 07:42, 7 August 2021 (UTC)

Ways to improve Frost Tower (San Antonio)

Evidence of Frost Tower (San Antonio)'s notability:

That was from a pretty cursory search.

If Frost Tower (San Antonio) isn't notable than I suggest you also nominate for deletion the various articles:

- Bank of America Plaza (San Antonio) - Frost Bank Tower - etc

The latter, in particular, has lots of citations, but does an ownership change signify notability or a slow news day?

The article was created as a stub. If stubs are no longer allowed on wikipedia than that would be news to me and, if they aren't allowed, then I think I may have to, with regret, leave wikipedia permanently, in protest of that new policy. Seems you can't delete wikipedia accounts but https://www.wikihow.com/Delete-Your-Wikipedia-Account mentions other ideas.

Flagging the article as a stub is appropriate. Threatening to delete it unless I - and solely I - take on the responsibility of editing it - is absurd.

Makes me regret creating these pages smh:

Something else I don't do: I don't usually use Template:Ref when adding citations. I do <ref>URL</ref> and that's it. Maybe we should any contribution I make that has <ref>URL</ref> as well? If I'm not going to go 110% all in on my contributions maybe I shouldn't be making any contributions at all

TerraFrost (talk) 13:52, 10 August 2021 (UTC)

  • TerraFrost Kindly show me where - in that page curation tool message - that I delivered a threat to delete. I have no opinion on how you code articles, you appear to be quite skilled at that. I asked for more references, cited a policy, and that is fully within the bounds of the task of NPP. Yes, I saw the stub. You telling me I was threatening to delete you is not within the scope of my actions. --Whiteguru (talk) 22:29, 10 August 2021 (UTC)

WaddlesJP13 I moved this article to draft. I am not the author. Why have you sent this message to me? --Whiteguru (talk) 00:00, 15 August 2021 (UTC)

@Whiteguru: I'm not sure why Twinkle sent you the message. Also, it turns out the user who created the page replaced the R2 tag with the original content and it appeared as an article that was not marked for deletion in the new pages feed. I will revert my and the user's edits back to your original deletion tagging. WaddlesJP13 (talk | contributions) 00:07, 15 August 2021 (UTC)

Draft Colcha embroidery page

Thank you for your message on my talk page. I thought that I was creating this as a subpage of my own sandbox, using User:TrudiJ/sandbox/Colcha embroidery as the page title. I know that it needs work (I just started it less than an hour ago, and am still gathering my sources), which is why I was trying to work in my sandbox before debuting the article. Clearly, I've made a mistake in the way I created it. Might you explain where I went wrong? Again, thank you for your help. TrudiJ (talk) 12:06, 19 August 2021 (UTC)

  • TrudiJ I create subpages directly after my username. So, don't put "User" in the name, just put a / after your user name and then type in the pagename. That will then become one of your subpages. --Whiteguru (talk) 08:25, 20 August 2021 (UTC)
    • Thank you, this is helpful to know. TrudiJ (talk) 08:27, 20 August 2021 (UTC)

Thanks for your suggestion but I couldn't find any more links on the vehicle, apart from Wikipedia mirrors and galleries. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Vennebe (talkcontribs) 19:08, 23 August 2021 UTC (UTC)

Hello. You WP:PROD to Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani and your concern was "NONE of the references give 20 August 2021 as start date for production" but now I added 2 new references which says 20 August is the starting date of the production. this and this. These both references says the starting date. Can you please now remove your PROD? Please remove it. Hyderabadi (talk) 09:25, 24 August 2021 (UTC)

I would support taking Aseel (website) to AfD. (I saw your note on the article creator's talk page.) The article creator has created several stubs on non-notable companies and products over the past few days, and I've nominated a couple for deletion already—see Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Shopaccino and Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Titan PMR. – Lord Bolingbroke (talk) 02:57, 27 August 2021 (UTC)

Good day sir. Please check and review the page Wazobia FM Lagos.

I have removed the {{proposed deletion/dated}} tag from Bishop Sycamore High School, which you proposed for deletion. Clearly the event is notable or we would not have such widespread coverage. The article may end up being about the event rather than the school/group/whatever, but clearly the group exists in some manner. It does not matter if it is a registered school, an unregistered school, or a complete hoax. They talked their way into a televised football game against the best in the state, and they are receiving widespread coverage.. If you still think this article should be deleted, please do not add {{proposed deletion}} back to the page. Instead, feel free to list it at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion. Thanks! Grazmach Tameru Lemma

Grazmach Tameru Lemma article is written by a family member. Relatives are one of the only possible ways to verify the article is by talking to really close family members which i am. With old archived government records at Haile Selassie's time which most likely might be gone or forever lost. No website in the world has any records of him. So i would like if you take down that edit you make because no other Wikipedian in the world knows about him but me. — Preceding unsigned comment added by TRUTHINCommons (talkcontribs) 14:32, 2 September 2021 (UTC)

Error in short description on Claypot rice?

Hello, is there an error with the short description on Claypot rice? It always says "Wikimedia template" for some reason (including as the local description on the information page). I tried to override it but it did not seem to work, then in the edit history I notice you had done the same thing previously, so there was actually already a local short description present. Are you seeing the same thing, and is this a known issue that you are aware of? ChromeGames923 (talk · contribs) 01:50, 7 September 2021 (UTC)

  • @ChromeGames923: I have just done a test and get the same error again. This did not come up the first time I entered a short description. There are no self-evident errors in the page to cause this. I am going to take this page to the Short desc project group and ask them to look at it. --Whiteguru (talk) 05:36, 7 September 2021 (UTC)
@Whiteguru: I didn't notice anything particularly wrong with the page either, and it's especially weird that it was fine previously since nothing significant seems to have changed in between. Hopefully the issue can be found, I don't recall seeing anything like this before. ChromeGames923 (talk · contribs) 05:46, 7 September 2021 (UTC)
@ChromeGames923: If you look at Page Information, there is a local description in there. It says, "Wikimedia template" and that's what's causing the problem. I don't see how to change that entry. I've asked a question here --Whiteguru (talk) 05:51, 7 September 2021 (UTC)
@Whiteguru: Right, though I'm not sure if that's causing the problem or just reflecting it. As I understand it, normally that field is determined by the short description template, so you change it by changing the short description on the page. But in this case it seems like it's being overridden. I'm reminded somewhat of this discussion: Template talk:Infobox musical artist#Parameter to remove short description. New Page Patrol newsletter September 2021

New Page Review queue September 2021

Hello Whiteguru,

Please join this discussion - there is increase in the abuse of Wikipedia and its processes by POV pushers, Paid Editors, and by holders of various user rights including Autopatrolled. Even our review systems themselves at AfC and NPR have been infiltrated. The good news is that detection is improving, but the downside is that it creates the need for a huge clean up - which of course adds to backlogs.

Copyright violations are also a serious issue. Most non-regular contributors do not understand why, and most of our Reviewers are not experts on copyright law - and can't be expected to be, but there is excellent, easy-to-follow advice on COPYVIO detection here.

At the time of the last newsletter (#25, December 2020) the backlog was only just over 2,000 articles. New Page Review is an official system. It's the only firewall against the inclusion of new, improper pages.

There are currently 706 New Page Reviewers plus a further 1,080 admins, but as much as nearly 90% of the patrolling is still being done by around only the 20 or so most regular patrollers.

If you are no longer very active on Wikipedia or you no longer wish to be part of the New Page Reviewer user group, please consider asking any admin to remove you from the list. This will enable NPP to have a better overview of its performance and what improvements need to be made to the process or its software.

Various awards are due to be allocated by the end of the year and barnstars are overdue. If you would like to manage this, please let us know. Indeed, if you are interested in coordinating NPR, it does not involve much time and the tasks are described here.

To opt-out of future mailings, please remove yourself here. Sent to 827 users. 04:33, 16 September 2021 (UTC)

  • Hello @Idoghor Melody:, thank you for your messages. I have to tell you that it is not done to contact any individual reviewer, but to simply let your articles find their place in the queue. I cannot pluck them out and review them. We are expected to be impartial and hold a neutral point of view towards articles and editors. So they find their way through in the New Page Patrol. Thank you. --Whiteguru (talk) 21:05, 16 September 2021 (UTC)

Thank you for your review

Hello Whiteguru. Thank you for your timely review of the article Wilhelm Stich (Gauleiter). I agree that additional sources would improve the article. Unfortunately, despite diligent searching in books and internet resources, I was unable to locate any additional substantive sources beyond those cited. I considered labeling the article a "stub" but concluded it was more than that, despite its limitations. I agree wholeheartedly with your approach to add a label calling on readers/reviewers to add additional sources. Thanks once again. Historybuff0105 (talk) 17:10, 24 September 2021 (UTC)

Concern about a review

Hi - please can you explain why you marked Muslim Research Foundation as reviewed? Thanks Girth Summit (blether) 18:51, 25 September 2021 (UTC)

  • @Girth Summit:I tagged the article to get a message to the page creator. Marking it as reviewed might have been a passing error. --Whiteguru (talk) 20:13, 25 September 2021 (UTC)
Can I check that I understand - are you saying that you marked it as reviewed by accident, when you thought you were just adding a tag? Did you use the page reviewing tool to add the tags, and did you not realise that marks that page as reviewed? Are there other articles that this has happened on which potentially need to be unreviewed? Girth Summit (blether) 20:54, 25 September 2021 (UTC)
One or two bad apples in the barrel do not condemn the entire barrel. With the departure of John B123 and Onel5969 I have been going a bit faster. Now that there is a drive in the works (October), I will be slowing down. It will be good to have extra hands on deck. WP:NPPSORT gives a backlog of 6423 unreviewed articles as of 26 September 2021.--Whiteguru (talk) 07:51, 26 September 2021 (UTC)
I'm not condemning anything, I'm trying to understand what has happened here, and whether there might be any more tidying up required. I think you're telling me that you accidentally marked it as reviewed when adding a tag to it with the page curation toolbar. If that is an accurate description of what happened here, would you be willing to check through the articles you have looked at to see whether this has happened elsewhere? Girth Summit (blether) 08:32, 26 September 2021 (UTC)
Just for your info, the Muslim Research Foundation article was another creation by a sock of Ananislam, the same person who created the 'Anan Foundation' article we discussed back in August. I'm not trying to give you a hard time, I just want to check that you realise that the page curation toolbar will mark a page as reviewed by default when you add a tag, unless you untick the little checkbox. Girth Summit (blether) 12:24, 26 September 2021 (UTC)
I have gone through my patrolled log and reviewed tagged pages against page history and patrol log and made corrections back to 1 September. A number of corrections were made. Earlier than that, there are bots in there and other editors at work and it becomes an exercise of checking back and forth to see who did what and when. The Curation tool does not appear on a number of pages in August. Going forward, I will change to using Twinkle instead of Page Curation to do NPP, and that will stop the overlooking the check mark. --Whiteguru (talk) 22:18, 26 September 2021 (UTC)
Thanks. Yes, I tend to use Twinkle to add tags unless I'm also intending to mark the page as reviewed - it's just too easy to overlook that checkbox. Thanks for reviewing. Girth Summit (blether) 14:51, 27 September 2021 (UTC)

Editor's Guild of India

Hi, I am a new user and recently tried to improve this article as the flow of the article was not proper. One of the sections on 'Activities' was misplaced. I tried communicating it to the creator/editor VenkatTL and the user is constantly reverting my edits instead of improving his article. Seems he added the section just to amplify a particular event. Let me know how to deal with this unconstructive reverting. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Editors_Guild_of_India Thanks TallMegan (talk) 17:07, 19 October 2021 (UTC)TallMegan User talk:TallMegan#Blocked as a sockpuppet

@TallMegan is unable to explain why he believes it is misplaced. Repeatedly removing content without good reason will get you blocked. Venkat TL (talk) 17:26, 19 October 2021 (UTC)
@TallMegan please see WP:EDITWAR. We shall follow the steps given on the 3R template message. It is best that you - yourself - don't do more that three edits to the article and take a break from that for 24 hours. --Whiteguru (talk) 20:21, 19 October 2021 (UTC)

@Whiteguru Any reason for not giving the notice on TallMegan's page. Or do you approve his disruptive edits? Venkat TL (talk) 07:45, 20 October 2021 (UTC)
