Hi, I had a question. The page contains lots and lots of closed discussions which are old but need to be maintained. So I archived making the talk look cleaner. I think so irrespective of the total size of the page, a page should be archived if it's getting too long and contains closed discussion. It for your answer - if its Support i shall revert your edit and if its oppose I shall place Talk:Ramal Talca-Constitución/Archive 1 under CSD. Thanks a lot. VarunFEB2003 (talk) 15:01, 30 July 2016 (UTC)

I obviously oppose the archiving of the page as I reverted it. --Whpq (talk) 03:23, 31 July 2016 (UTC)
No I needed advice. Should a page only be archived if it exceeds 75(or something) kb or when it becomes too long. VarunFEB2003 (talk) 07:00, 31 July 2016 (UTC)
My advice is to concentrate on editing articles, and not concern yourself with archiving things, fiddling with your signature, playing with templates or whatever other stuff you might be doing. Experience with issues that crop up from editing articles will give you the insight into when other processes need to happen. I know this is not a direct answer to your request, but I believe that this is the most appropriate advice for you covering this, and many other things that you find yourself stumbling over. -- Whpq (talk) 19:33, 31 July 2016 (UTC)
Ok thanks. VarunFEB2003 (talk) 05:26, 1 August 2016 (UTC)

I'd already noted this and had left the uploader as less potential bitey message. I would urge you to reconsider. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 23:17, 12 August 2016 (UTC)

How is using a standard template with instructions to resolve an issue a bitey message? I'll remove my message as you've already left him a message, but if you believe the wording for standard notification templates are biting newcomers, then perhaps you can suggest alternative wording. -- Whpq (talk) 23:26, 12 August 2016 (UTC)

FYI

Since you leave talk back messages you may want to use this script - User:Writ Keeper/Scripts/selfTalkbackLink.js Place the import script code in common.js it creates a small send a Talkback link besides each users signature on your own talk page! Thanks VarunFEB2003 Offline when signed 15:43, 31 August 2016 (UTC)

Twinkle is perfectly adequate. I have no need for extra scripts. Btw, your signature is stupidly wrong.

Questions about how to designate fair use photo for Lily Mae

Whpq,

The photo in question is the first I've uploaded to Wikipedia. It is a photo I took, but I prefer not to designate it as a "Free" image. I'm happy to have it used on Wikipedia, but if someone wants to use it elsewhere I would prefer that they contact us first.

If there is a better way to label the photo for that purpose, or if that is something that is not allowed on Wikipedia please let me know.

As far as the photo being replaceable, since there was no one else there taking photos that day I don't see how it would be replaced. I know of no other current photos of Lily Mae that are available for free.

Is what I've said here sufficient? I'm just not that familiar with how Wikipedia works.

Any guidance would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Bbm (talk) 14:29, 8 October 2016 (UTC)

Images that are designated non-free must meet all of the non-free content criteria. In the case of images of living people, they almost always fail to satisfy point 1 which is that there is no free equivalent that could be created. For living people, somebody (not necessarily you) could take a picture of the subject and release it under a free license. So in the case of the photo you submitted, there is no way to label the photo as non-free and still use it on Wikipedia. Regards, -- Whpq (talk) 16:21, 8 October 2016 (UTC)

Whpq,

Ok, I think I get it. I read the logic of Point 1 incorrectly and thought that if either of those conditions was true it was Ok to post the non-free photo. If I now understand correctly then as you point out, for a living person, there is the possibility that someone might take a picture and also post it somewhere and it could somehow end up on Wikipedia, and that is somehow better than if I post my picture for free on Wikipedia but wish to retain my copyright.

I'm guessing that Wikipedia prefers freely copiable content, is that the issue?

Thank you for taking the time to answer. I hope I'm not putting this answer in the wrong place. I haven't figured out Wikipedia talk yet.
Cheers!

Bbm (talk) 22:01, 8 October 2016 (UTC)

Yes, your understanding is correct. And yes, this is the right place to post a reply. Regards. -- Whpq (talk) 12:13, 9 October 2016 (UTC)

there is nothing to be fixed. Non-commercial means the license is not sufficiently free for use on Wikipedia and as a non-free file, it is replaceable with individual images of the cabinet members. --Whpq (talk) 16:17, 26 October 2016 (UTC)

HELLO MY FRIEND, I got this coat of arms of mons. Dieudonne nzapalainga from a PDF file document I've found from the archdiocese's website. I just cropped it. Can you please help me to get some licensing permission? Thanks Baracudas44 (talk) 15:04, 1 November 2016 (UTC)

about coat of arms of mons. nzapalainga, piat, and ribat

Hello my friend, the 3 coat of arms are cropped by myself. The Coat of mons. Nzapalainga I from a PDF file document, coat of mons. Post is from Facebook page of St. Anne Church in Mauritius, and the coat of mons. Rib at is from a scanned photo of a document from the Diocese of Townsville, New Zealand. I would like to have a license. Can you please help me? Thanks — Preceding unsigned comment added by Baracudas44 (talkcontribs) 15:44, 1 November 2016 (UTC)

As it stands, these are copyright violations. You can't copy somebody else's work and claim it as your own. You might be able to make a case to use these images as non-free content but you must be able to satisfy all of the non-free content criteria in order for it to be used. -- Whpq (talk) 17:02, 1 November 2016 (UTC)

I See Stars promo

I have no idea what "bogus public domain reasoning" means. I'm new to uploading photos here and still trying to comprehend the process. This is a promo band photo free to use anywhere, emailed by the photographer for a band. Which license is needed? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Andrewlavila (talkcontribs) 23:25, 2 November 2016 (UTC)

Simply stated, the explanation you provided for why the image is public domain makes no sense. As for what license, Wikipedia requires these images to have a free license, and that licensing must come from the copyright holder. See the instructions for donating copyright material. --Whpq (talk) 02:38, 3 November 2016 (UTC)

Can you assist me in editing this photo please? I cannot figure out how to edit the license on it. Or do I have to re upload the photo altogether? Andrewlavila (talk) 03:38, 3 November 2016 (UTC)

Has the photographer sent an email stating a specific license under which the photo is being released as noted above with respect to donating copyright material? -- Whpq (talk) 17:29, 3 November 2016 (UTC)

No they have not. I can ask for one if need be. They took these photos to be used as promotional shots for the band. To be used on all online outlets, press, etc. as a representation of the current lineup of the band. So the photos were passed along and free to use by the band, label, etc. in this manner to promote. Andrewlavila (talk) 02:36, 4 November 2016 (UTC)

That the photo is a promotional image from the band has no bearing on the copyright. You need to get the copyright holder to confirm that the image has been released under a specific free license. -- Whpq (talk) 13:07, 4 November 2016 (UTC)

New Page Reviewer granted

Hello Whpq. Your account has been added to the "New page reviewers" user group, allowing you to review new pages and mark them as patrolled, tag them for maintenance issues, or in some cases, tag them for deletion. The list of articles awaiting review is located at the New Pages Feed. New page reviewing is a vital function for policing the quality of the encylopedia, if you have not already done so, you must read the new tutorial at New Pages Review, the linked guides and essays, and fully understand the various deletion criteria. If you need more help or wish to discuss the process, please join or start a thread at page reviewer talk.

  • Be nice to new users - they are often not aware of doing anything wrong.
  • You will frequently be asked by users to explain why their page is being deleted - be formal and polite in your approach to them too, even if they are not.
  • Don't review a page if you are not sure what to do. Just leave it for another reviewer.
  • Remember that quality is quintessential to good patrolling. Take your time to patrol each article, there is no rush. Use the message feature and offer basic advice.

The reviewer right does not change your status or how you can edit articles. If you no longer want this user right, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. In case of abuse or persistent inaccuracy of reviewing, the right can be revoked at any time by an administrator. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 03:03, 21 November 2016 (UTC)

ArbCom Elections 2016: Voting now open!

Hello, Whpq. Voting in the 2016 Arbitration Committee elections is open from Monday, 00:00, 21 November through Sunday, 23:59, 4 December to all unblocked users who have registered an account before Wednesday, 00:00, 28 October 2016 and have made at least 150 mainspace edits before Sunday, 00:00, 1 November 2016.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2016 election, please review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 22:08, 21 November 2016 (UTC)

New Page Review - newsletter

Hello Whpq,
Breaking the back of the backlog
We now have 816 New Page Reviewers! Most of you requested the user right to be able to do something about the huge backlog. Now it's time for action.
Mid July to 01 Oct 2016

If each reviewer does only 10 reviews a day over five days, the backlog will be down to zero and the daily input can then be processed by each reviewer doing only 2 or 3 reviews a day - that's about 5 minutes work!
Let's get that over and done with in time to relax for the holidays.

Second set of eyes

Not only are New Page Reviewers the guardians of quality of new articles, they are also in a position to ensure that pages are being correctly tagged for deletion and maintenance and that new authors are not being bitten. This is an important feature of your work. Read about it at the new Monitoring the system section in the tutorial.

Re: Non-Free Content to Free Content

Sir/Madam: this is regarding of my uploaded image previously, now my question is how to convert my non-free content image to free content? Is there any option about it? considering the uploader are not active anymore of the said blog as you can see in the date. it was 7 years ago, and the blog site it seem being abandoned by owner already. thank you Nick Jr. (talk) 03:21, 9 January 2017 (UTC)

Unless the copyright owner releases the image under a free license, the image is not usable on Wikipedia. The fact that the site appear to have been abandoned does not change the fact the image is not free. -- Whpq (talk) 03:30, 9 January 2017 (UTC)

Then what should be the best thing to do? Sir Nick Jr. (talk) 03:34, 9 January 2017 (UTC)

Your draft article, Draft:Jerome Strong

Hello, Whpq. It has been over six months since you last edited your Articles for Creation draft article submission, "Jerome Strong".

In accordance with our policy that Articles for Creation is not for the indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace, the draft has been nominated for deletion. If you plan on working on it further, or editing it to address the issues raised if it was declined, simply edit the submission and remove the {{db-afc}} or {{db-g13}} code.

If your submission has already been deleted by the time you get there, and you wish to retrieve it, you can request its undeletion by following the instructions at this link. An administrator will, in most cases, restore the submission so you can continue to work on it.

Can you help me?

What do I have to do in order to use the images, can you help me? Is there a way to do it based upon what you are stating? Do I have to try to locate who owns them and then get permission to use them? And if I do get permission or get denied, how do I submit that I have permission or do not have permission? — Preceding unsigned comment added by R.Duverna (talkcontribs) 20:56, 19 January 2017 (UTC)

It isn't sufficient to get permission from the owner of an image to use the image. The permission must be a release of the image under a sufficiently free license for use on Wikipedia. Such permission is documented in an OTRS ticket. You might find more answers to your questions in Wikipedia:FAQ/Copyright, and Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you have more questions about media copyrights, you can post your questions at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. -- Whpq (talk) 15:01, 22 January 2017 (UTC)

Please help edit an article

Dear Whpq,

Thank you for being such an amazing Wiki user. But right now, I need your help. My extensive research about Bharata Natyam, a traditional South Indian dance, has come forth to show that the Wikipedia page about Bharata Natyam is plagued with errors and misleading information. Perhaps we could work together? Because Bharata Natyam is such an important cultural aspect of India and Tamil Nadu, I am inclined to believe that a faulty and tiresome Wiki page about Bharata Natyam should cease to be left undisturbed. Most of the mistakes are made with misleading words and improper descriptions. I will supply you with links and other resources as soon as I can dredge them up from my database. Please shower your blessings.

Delete as advertising

198.151.216.108 (talk) 01:24, 1 February 2017 (UTC) Hello Whpq,

I left a very similar (well, identical) message for SwisterTwister) I'd appreciate further clarification on why my Wiki submission for Russell Reynolds was denied and moved for deletion. You state that there has been anything to satisfy Wikipedia policies; however, when comparing the citations and the content to a different wiki entry for a company in the same industry: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Egon_Zehnder the citation quality and language/tone for the Russell Reynolds submission are very comparable. In fact the Russell Reynolds submission contains citations from many of the same sources listed in: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Egon_Zehnder The citations from the Wall Street Journal are a good example.

Heidrick and Struggles, another very similar firm, is also an approved Wikipedia submission with citations and language very similar to the Russell Reynolds submission: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heidrick_%26_Struggles . Using Egon Zehnder and Heidrick and Struggles Wikipedia entries as examples to model the Russell Reynolds citation after, since they are approved which means they satisfy Wikipedia policies, seemed to me like a good idea. Is that not the case, and if so, it would seem as if the approval process is very subjective and not based on any clearly defined standards.

Here is the specific feedback:

There was enough time in 3 reviews to at least give us the needed substance in a convincing article, the article itself has unchanged itself with still only keeping either clear-copied company advertising or advertised business announcements, all is sufficient for deletion.

You mention that the submission was populated using marketing copy taken from elsewhere, if so, I would love to see the source material I used copied. Also mentioned was the timeline elapsed from the first entry until this most recent. I am not being paid to submit this information to Wikipedia - if that was the case, I most likely would have lost my job by now since indeed it has been quite some time. I did add additional text and 6 additional new citations from reputable sources.

I am not trying to be difficult and am more than happy to additional content to this submission if you provide me with additional direction. This exercise is simply meant to be a way to learn my way around Wikipedia. I appreciate your help and guidance.

Thanks, Jose User: JCTH2015

New Page Review - newsletter No.2

Hello Whpq,
A HUGE backlog

We now have 816 New Page Reviewers!
Most of us requested the user right at PERM, expressing a wish to be able to do something about the huge backlog, but the chart on the right does not demonstrate any changes to the pre-user-right levels of October.

Hitting 17,000 soon

The backlog is still steadily growing at a rate of 150 a day or 4,650 a month. Only 20 reviews a day by each reviewer over the next few days would bring the backlog down to a managable level and the daily input can then be processed by each reviewer doing only 2 or 3 reviews a day - that's about 5 minutes work!
It didn't work in time to relax for the Xmas/New Year holidays. Let's see if we can achieve our goal before Easter, otherwise by Thanksgiving it will be closer to 70,000.

Second set of eyes

Remember that we are the only guardians of quality of new articles, we alone have to ensure that pages are being correctly tagged by non-Reviewer patrollers and that new authors are not being bitten.

Abuse

This is even more important and extra vigilance is required considering Orangemoody, and

  1. this very recent case of paid advertising by a Reviewer resulting in a community ban.
  2. this case in January of paid advertising by a Reviewer, also resulting in a community ban.
  3. This Reviewer is indefinitely blocked for sockpuppetry.

Coordinator election

Kudpung is stepping down after 6 years as unofficial coordinator of New Page Patrolling/Reviewing. There is enough work for two people and two coords are now required. Details are at NPR Coordinators; nominate someone or nominate yourself. Date for the actual suffrage will be published later.

Your opinion

Thank you for the reply. Made me chuckle a bit. Being North of the border one can expect proper Queens English from you.(there's no excuse for me though - mum was from Moosejaw) There were two things you did not express an opinion on and were the the real issues I had beyond being stalked. The first was how a user's history can disappear and the second was the disfunctional upload box for images. Thank you againMcb133aco (talk) 20:54, 11 February 2017 (UTC)mcb133acoMcb133aco (talk)

I have no idea what your issue with uploading on Commons would be. As for disappearing history, are you certain you have the right article. Perhaps you have Draft:Naval Construction Battalion 133 mixed up with Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 133? The draft article has been deleted. Regards. -- Whpq (talk) 01:21, 12 February 2017 (UTC)

Your Help again

At the very of the top page on the right is bar with user name and ends with Log out. The "Contributions" tab is suppose to have the history of every edit you have ever made on Wikipedia. For my IP 184 Contributions history , it disappeared from the beginning up through the day I ran into the other user. The current history posted only just begins starting last month after that undo of the USS Mifflin edit I made. But, on to something else. As I said before my main Article has been Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 133. Only today I was made aware it has 7 Hidden Catagories on it. Would you fill me in on this stuff. Are they something I need to address? Where and when did they become attached? Is this something done by a Bot or a user? Do you know why there is no history posted for these things? Lastly, I think I have addressed the "Bare URLs". Can that "Bare URLs Tag be removed? If it can, does that hidden catagory disappear with it's removal? Just checked and the 133 Article was placed on the "Feb cleanup list" My opinion is I have run into more vindictiveness. I would appreciate your bringing me up to speed on what I do no know. Thank you for your time a patience. Mcb133aco (talk) 04:12, 13 February 2017 (UTC)mcb133acoMcb133aco (talk)

IP addresses often change so you need to be absolutely sure if which IP address you were using at what time. As I said before, best practice to always log in. Then you can see all your contributions easily. As for hiddeen categories, see WP:Hidden category. These are normally added automatically when improvement tags are added to an article. I expect they would disappear with the removal of the bare URL tag which you should be able to do now as it appears that issue has been cleaned up. As for running into vindictiveness, I really don't see that. Remember to assuem good faith. Tagging of articles for improvement isn't normally vindictiveness. Regards. -- Whpq (talk) 16:50, 13 February 2017 (UTC)

File:Dimbokro Nzi River Bridge Red & White Tape.png

I have replaced File:Dimbokro Nzi River Bridge Red & White Tape.png with a diagram drawn with MS Paint.

As far as I know, the use of small portion, say 10%, of a copyright item does not breach copyright. Tabletop (talk) 04:24, 8 February 2017 (UTC)

A cropped image of a copyrighted file does not transfer the copyright to you, and is not usable in Wikipedia. Replacing it with this drawing is not particularly useful as I see no use for the drawing. -- Whpq (talk) 22:08, 8 February 2017 (UTC)
What then about "Picture worth a thousand words"? Tabletop (talk) 23:46, 9 February 2017 (UTC)
Why do you think the drawing is useful? --Whpq (talk) 01:00, 10 February 2017 (UTC)
There is an article, "Barricade tape", which expands the issue of emergency tape. It does not explain the choice of colours, especially the contrast between foreground (tape) and background. The image in question does demonstrate this. Tabletop (talk) 03:23, 14 February 2017 (UTC)
I fail to see why a drawing is needed when the the barricade article already includes File:Praha-Klánovice, zatopený starý podchod (03).jpg which is red and white barrier tape. -- Whpq (talk) 13:12, 14 February 2017 (UTC)

Still a MASSIVE backlog

We now have 816 New Page Reviewers but despite numerous appeals for help, the backlog has NOT been significantly reduced.

Hi Whpq, I have already responded to your assertion about the image violating NFCC#2 rule, so read my response and respond hopefully if you can. Thanks in response. TTTAssasinator (talk) 21:21, 10 March 2017 (UTC)

Thanks for your quick response. I've conceded, as I can find no answers to your third point. TTTAssasinator (talk) 04:56, 11 March 2017 (UTC)

 == Gamar Malamo Airport.jpg file summary. ==

Hi Whpq. I have added {{di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}} to the file description page as you informed me on my talk page. I have added the reason and also wrote why the image is not replaceable. I hope this will not place the image for deletion. Thank You! FlyJet777 (talk) 08:38, 14 March 2017 (UTC)

I don't think your reason for keeping the image will stand up. WP:NFCC#1 requires that no free equivalent could be created. As an existing operating airport, somebody could travel to the airport and take a free image. It's not sufficient that you cannot find an existing free image. --Whpq (talk) 12:40, 14 March 2017 (UTC)

Hello Whpq. I am always having a problem in uploading images to Wikipedia. You will notice on my talk page that many of the new sections have problems related to uploading images. Some times it states I have not added rationale and sometimes it states there is problem in the license of the image. I am always facing a difficulty in uploading images on Wikipedia. Can you suggest what should I do to overcome this difficulty? Thank You! FlyJet777 (talk) 10:14, 15 March 2017 (UTC)

Read and understand WP:NFC, and make sure that any non-free images meet all the criteria in WP:NFCC. If you have specific questions, you can post them on WP:MCQ where people familiar with media copyright policy and guidelines can provide some answers. Regards. -- Whpq (talk) 02:29, 16 March 2017 (UTC)

inserting a picture on a page

How can I legally add a picture to a wikipedia page without copyright infringement? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tbarrett027 (talkcontribs) 17:24, 19 March 2017 (UTC)

You use only images that have a license compatible with Wikipedia's free licensing requirements. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags/Free licenses. What this means is that copying stuff you find on the web is generally not going to be acceptable because most images you find will not be under a free license. -- Whpq (talk) 17:38, 19 March 2017 (UTC)

Please.

I'm really annoyed. Have you got nothing better to do than stop me listing my details on my own sandbox. Have no idea how you discovered my second account. It's despicable and you're targeting me. — Preceding unsigned comment added by LemonadeLemonz (talkcontribs) 17:48, 12 April 2017 (UTC)

I am apologising for my own mistakes

I first of all apologise to what I had done today.Sorry for that.I didn't not know about the fact that getting license to a certain image wasn't easy. Please for give me.Here after I won't upload any images to wikipedia.Thank You.Abishe (talk) 12:28, 19 April 2017 (UTC)

Reverted Edit.

I've reverted the edit because when you type Lappan Chhappan on google.Google scans the first paragraph from wikipedia so you have to keep the plot on the top.

If you have any problems please contact me on my userpage My Userpage

Wikipedia is an encyclopedia. It Google's summary is not grabbing the right information, that's Google's problem. What you have done is contrary to the proper layout of the article, and is in fact straight out wrong as the lead is stuffed into a section called plot when it isn't the plot. I've reverting your change. -- Whpq (talk) 17:45, 12 May 2017 (UTC)

Please read this article CAREFULLY!!!!

North Sunflower Medical Center

I am a fairly new user to Wikipedia, and I finally just now saw the notifications (the bell icon) from back in February in regarding speedy deletion of North Sunflower Medical Center page. The notifications were from you, but the speedy deletion was carried out by user DGG. In both cases you mentioned (certain sections of text and one image), I did have permission from the copyright holder, and they can email proof of that from their domain. However, since I just now figured out how to view these notifications, the speedy deletion is long past. I'm not sure how to proceed next. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Elevenrivers (talkcontribs) 16:05, 3 May 2017 (UTC) Elevenrivers (talk) 16:08, 3 May 2017 (UTC)

Proof that the material is being released under a free license needs to be provided from the copyright holder. See Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. I will add that in many cases, even if the permission is given, the material may be deemed inappropriate if it is considered promotional. Also, if you have a conflict of interest, you will need to declare it, -- Whpq (talk) 11:04, 4 May 2017 (UTC)

Yes, this is permission from the copyright holder. Provided to whom? And yes, declaration of conflict of interest was made and is still on my user page, per Wikipedia instructions. So what happens now? Elevenrivers (talk) 14:57, 4 May 2017 (UTC)

Please read Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. There is a link to a form letter tat can be used as a tamplate for a permission letter and there is information on where this permission is to be sent. -- Whpq (talk) 17:30, 4 May 2017 (UTC)

5/17/17 Update: Permission has been confirmed and sent to Permissions at Wikimedia. However, step 3. cannot be completed due to page already having been deleted "Add "OTRS pending" to the image description page or article talk page (whichever is applicable). This will help an editor with access to OTRS to tag the article or image with "PermissionOTRS|ticket=http://linktoticket.example.org" providing evidence of the received e-mail and clearing the status of the item in question. Providing the link to the OTRS ticket number is essential for easy verification." — Preceding unsigned comment added by Elevenrivers (talkcontribs) 14:48, 17 May 2017 (UTC) Elevenrivers (talk)

I will add that the items in question are simply a photo of the facility and some details of the history of the facility that use the same language as the facility's website. Not sure why the entire page needed to be marked for speedy deletion for those two items, rather than edited. The facility in question seems notable because it is an award-winning rural hospital serving one of the most economically disadvantaged parts of the United States, during an era when many rural hospitals have shut down or consolidated due to budget cuts. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Elevenrivers (talkcontribs) 14:52, 17 May 2017 (UTC) Elevenrivers (talk)

You can discuss restoring the deleted article with the deleting administrator, User:DGG and explain that you have an OTRS ticket to confirm the release of material under a free license. -- Whpq (talk) 18:38, 17 May 2017 (UTC)

New Page Review - Newsletter No.4

Hello Whpq,

Since rolling out the right in November, just 6 months ago, we now have 816 reviewers, but the backlog is still mysteriously growing fast. If every reviewer did just 55 reviews, the 22,000 backlog would be gone, in a flash, schwoop, just like that!

But do remember: Rather than speed, quality and depth of patrolling and the use of correct CSD criteria are essential to good reviewing. Do not over-tag. Make use of the message feature to let the creator know about your maintenance tags. See the tutorial again HERE. Get help HERE.

Stay up to date with recent new page developments and have your say, read THIS PAGE.

New Page Reviewer Newsletter

Hello Whpq, thank you for your efforts reviewing new pages!

Backlog update:

  • The new page backlog is currently at 18,511 pages. We have worked hard to decrease from over 22,000, but more hard work is needed! Please consider reviewing even just a few pages a a day.
  • Some editors are committing to work specifically on patrolling new pages on 15 July. If you have not reviewed new pages in a while, this might be a good time to be involved. Please remember that quality of patrolling is more important than quantity, that the speedy deletion criteria should be followed strictly, and that ovetagging for minor issues should be avoided.

Technology update:

  • Several requests have been put into Phabractor to increase usability of the New Pages Feed and the Page Curation toolbar. For more details or to suggest improvements go to Wikipedia:Page Curation/Suggested improvements

Possibly non-public domain photos

I have not altered or have not disclosed information pertaining to this U.S. Government Agency photograph from the National Park Service. The image is clearly in the public domain.

As far as I could tell from my researching this image that its part of a U.S. Government Agency using the painting for National Park Service purposes. and that the image is in the public domain.

I correct myself this a federal government photograph held by a U.S. Government Agency, the Nation Park Service and in the public domain.

I have not altered or have not disclosed information pertaining to this U.S. Government Agency painting used by the National Park Service. The image is clearly in the public domain.

I correct myself I meant that the image used is from the federal government project collection from the New Deal era the American Historic Buildings Survey and is housed in the Library of Congress, a U.S. Government Agency and clearly in the public domain. I did crop the edges of the photograph to make the image neater looking and I forgot to mention in the save jpg file and source summary that it was cropped image. Would you like me to rename the jpg file as cropped and resubmit the modified file name? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Lucky For You (talkcontribs)

Ok, thank you. I added the template (by mistake I had added "replaceable") The same image in commons possibly will be deleted, so I added this here Greco22 (talk) 00:04, 23 August 2017 (UTC)

Non-free mages of living people are almost always deemed replaceable as one could create free image of the living person by taking a picture of the person. See Wikipedia:Non-free content where it specifically states "Non-free content should not be used when a freely licensed file that serves the same purpose can reasonably be expected to be uploaded, as is the case for almost all portraits of living people." -- Whpq (talk) 00:12, 23 August 2017 (UTC)
