I've not been the most gracious of hosts - hell, from your point of view I've probably been rather mean and/or cruel to you since you first had the misfortune to cross with me - but as a new user I thought I'd leave a link for you: Wikipedia:WikiProject Military history/Academy. The stuff in there is somewhat specialized to the Military history Project, but as you are making a good faith attempt to contribute here I thought you may be able to make some use of the material present. Our academy was set up to help out new comers and to offer advise and suggestions on how to make useful contributions with an eye toward milhist, but I figure it can't hurt to offer a helping hand. If you can use something from there in your Wikipedia editing then it wasn't a wasted effort. TomStar81 (Talk) 12:39, 12 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you. I really appreciate it! WikiConqueror (talk) 22:34, 12 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Your article

[edit]

Thank you for creating A Concert of Remembrance.

However, there are not enough sources to prove the topic is notable, or that it's suitable for a standalone article.

Notability on Wikipedia is based on notice from the outside world. Topics have to be described in detail by several reputable sources before it can merit a standalone article. Reputable sources include news, books, and academic articles. Non-reputable sources include gossip, social networks, YouTube, and blogs.

Please add sources to prove that your topic is notable; otherwise the topic cannot be covered on Wikipedia. Here are some searches you can conduct to find them:

Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs· FENS · JSTOR · TWL

If you can't find sources after a search, it may be deleted. However, you may also want to consider merging or redirecting to another article even if it is not notable.

You may find the below resources to be useful:

If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask via a reply below. Thank you. Esquivalience t 23:48, 17 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Also, a note about the article: events, such as individual performances, require not only notability, but also lasting effect or coverage, because Wikipedia is much more of an encyclopedia than a newspaper. This means that even performances by the most notable orchestras (such as the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra) do not get articles. This article even qualifies to be deleted quickly, as it does not demonstrate notability (by citing sources), significance, or importance. I reverted my initial tagging because redirection was an option and I wanted to explain the notability guidelines to you before doing anything, but I strongly suggest that you blank-and-redirect the article to Elgin Symphony Orchestra. Esquivalience t 23:53, 17 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, Esquivalience. I added some more sources to prove that my topic is notable and some new categories. I don't think that the article should be blanked and redirected because the article should stand alone as a memorial for the September 11 attacks. WikiConqueror (talk) 00:04, 18 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for making an effort to find sources and working to advance Wikipedia's coverage of 9/11 (indirectly); nonetheless, Wikipedia has a very high bar for standalone event articles (per the notability guidelines for events), and they need to have a lasting effect or significance–as Wikipedia is not a newspaper. However, the symphony can still be covered in the article about the orchestra who performed it (Elgin Symphony Orchestra); readers who want to read about the performance will most likely know it not by name but by its corresponding orchestra's name. A kindly intended note

[edit]

I suspect the above torrent of deletion notices has squelched your enthusiasm. I feel bad about that because your earnestness is clear. But I do see that you've had some articles deleted in the past, and some of the ones that User:Reddogsix and I deleted in the last hour or so are older but may have missed scrutiny before.

I'd like to recommend that you continue to identify subjects for good Wikipedia articles, but that when you do, you check first to make sure they are notable, as I explained to you in my remarks at Wikipedia talk:Articles for deletion/Whine Party. If you can scrounge up enough suitable source yourself, that have substantial coverage, are independent of the subject (not the actors' own websites, not the program from a theater where the symphony performed, etc.), and aren't routine and relatively trivial (like local theater listings) that will really help in cases where those are hard to identify.
