Your Rollback request

Hi WikiPediaAid, I have declined your request for rollback on the premise that you lack vandalism reverts which helps administrators gage your judgment with the tool. After a discussion with some other administrators we have agreed that after a few days of recent change patrol and some vandalism reverts we would be happy to grant you the tool. Let me know if you have any questions. Cheers, Tiptoety talk 18:43, 9 June 2008 (UTC)

(edit conflict) To back up what Tiptoety says: After some discussion between various administrators, the consensus seems to be to defer your request for rollback for a few days. Whilst you are clearly a good and trusted user, you do not seem to have much experience of vandal reversion. As rollback should only be used for this purpose, we suggest you should spend a while reverting vandalism using the undo function. If you can demonstrate this, I will be happy to grant use of rollback when you reapply. —  Tivedshambo  (t/c) 18:47, 9 June 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading File:Bulbapedia logo.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of "file" pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. AGT

The elim table for the wild cards has to be sortable, or else the table won't work (it's a weird glitch, but that's the only way around it right now). If I could I would remove the sortability too. Gamer9832 (talk) 03:23, 23 August 2012 (UTC)

Hi, is there a way that we can request to lock down the AGT season 7 page so IP users can't edit? This has been done to the main AGT page to prevent vandalism. I'm not sure how to do it, could you request it? Gamer9832 (talk) 02:39, 29 August 2012 (UTC)

Go to this page and read the instructions on there to make a request for temporary semi-protection. I made a request last time, but I'm not sure if I was convincing enough. Personally, I'm not very good at stating my cases, so I'm thinking that you could do better than me on this one. I'll have your back if you make the request this time. WPA 02:46, 29 August 2012 (UTC)
Just requested protection for the page. I'll keep you posted about the result when it comes. Gamer9832 (talk) 00:24, 31 August 2012 (UTC)
I've just seen that the page has been auto-protected for a month while I was doing a minor edit. Good job! WPA 01:20, 1 September 2012 (UTC)

"Minor" edits

Please don't add or remove spaces in the section headings, as you did in this edit. It clutters the diff for no purpose, making it harder for others to see the substantive changes. It also does not save any significant space, as Wikimedia has plenty of storage. It also does not necessarily make things "easier to read", as some people consider the opposite style easier. In short, unless you're editing the section heading anyway, it's best all around to just leave these spaces as they were. Thanks. Anomie 02:33, 20 November 2012 (UTC)

AGT revision 567495387

WikiPediaAid, (1)Don't talk like you own this article. (2)No other punctuation was needed other than the parentheses in the table, and those are/were needed in these cases. (3)Marion Ross was a part of his segment, speaking in the intro. If you don't want to put her in the notes, then list her as a "Guest". One or the other. --Musdan77 (talk) 05:37, 7 August 2013 (UTC)

Musdan77, (1)I didn't "talk like I owned the article". I know I don't "own" any Wikipedia article; I only wrote down notes in curly braces because that's what I personally do if I feel that I need to make any additional comment. (2)The periods were required to end the performance descriptions, as with on the other performance tables on both this season's article and past seasons' articles. That was the punctuation issue I was talking about; they were missing when I made the edit bringing up the punctuation note and I had to re-add them. As for the parentheses, they weren't really needed as you were saying. Parentheses should be used sparingly. (3)Marion Ross was not a part of her son's performance; I know she was speaking in the intro package and I know she was in the live audience, but she didn't get involved with the actual performance in any way, unlike the judges, host Nick Cannon, or Twitter. Thus, it was not necessary to mention her. Also, you're misinterpreting what the "Guests" line is for, being a shorthand for "Guest performers". (In other words, those who are doing a special performance usually for the results show.) So unless Ross actually does a performance of some kind in tonight's results show, she does not need to be included there either. --WPA 19:23, 7 August 2013 (UTC)
Punctuation in notes of tables (in this case called "Performance description") do not necessarily follow as in prose. In order to keep the notes as brief as possible, they are really supposed to be sentence fragments, not actual sentences -- which don't end in periods. Now if you want to use sentences, then that's up to you, but don't tell others in an edit summary to do something like that. That's why I said, "Don't talk like you own this article." Yes, Marion Ross wasn't a part of the "performance", and that's why I put it in parentheses. In a similar way the use of Nick Cannon was a side note. It's not necessary to mention, but is an interesting add, and so it also should be in parentheses. And, I don't see anywhere that says "Guest" is (only) as you say. There is a third option: using a notation at the bottom of the table. Anyway, the speaking appearance of Marion Ross is notable enough that it should be mentioned somewhere (since these tables are in essence the list of episodes for the show). And please be careful who you talk to and how you talk to them. Thanks for understanding. --Musdan77 (talk) 20:34, 7 August 2013 (UTC)

Good morning @WikiPediaAid: ! I saw that you recently have been greatly improving the Disney franchise articles I created, and also a Carmen Sandiego game I have been heavily involved with now for a number of years.

I was wondering if you would perhaps care to give a more thorough copyedit to both Great Chase, and also another article on an obscure yet fascinating CDS game about North Dakota?

I think you would have a blast reading the latter, and I would greatly appreciate the second pair of eyes.

Lilo and Stitch Experiments

I noticed the List of Experiments from Lilo and Stitch article was unfortunately deleted. I wish I had found out about the discussion while it was happening, then I would have backed you up in keeping it.

If you want to manage an Experiment list, maybe you could try the list on Disney Wikia? Here's an archive of the Wikipedia page that you can use for reference: http://web.archive.org/web/20161015223806/https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_experiments_from_Lilo_%26_Stitch.

Plasma Phantom mentioned that the Lilo and Stitch Wikia had an awful experiment list and that the admin won't listen to reason. The Disney Wiki however is pretty reasonable. 2605:E000:7D0D:CF00:7011:858E:3FB7:32E3 (talk) 05:34, 14 December 2016 (UTC)

Yes, it is tragic that the list of experiments article was deleted. Also, I can attest to Plasma Phantom's comments about the admin on Lilo & Stitch Wiki as I've dealt with him before. I tried to cooperate with the guy, but he flip-flopped on how he wanted it to be run, especially since we were also dealing with another user who ran a different Lilo & Stitch-focused Wikia that I initially tried to give some support. I'm not going to give the whole story of the ordeal, but I knew it was hopeless when those two had issues over a header image that someone made for the Wikia. The guy who made it (or possibly someone else, I don't remember) was also going to clean up the experiments' images to make them look better, probably either to get rid of JPEG artifacts or make some SVG traces of their official art. I did want to back up Plasma Phantom on the Wikia problem during the discussion, but aside from personal issues in my life during October, I would have been shot down anyway because whatever happens on Wikia is not really relevant to Wikipedia.
As for The Disney Wiki, here's a sad twist. The admin running Lilo & Stitch Wiki is also an admin on Disney Wiki. He copy-pastes every edit made to Disney Wiki's Lilo & Stitch-related articles over to Lilo & Stitch Wiki and vice versa. He's even been called out on this by other Disney Wiki admins, yet, he still has an admin spot on there. Also, if I were to take out the definitely non-canonical information about the unseen experiments (and some of the officially-seen ones as well) over there, he would most likely notice the changes, revert my edits, and use his admin privileges to ban me from there. So as much as I want to do so, I won't unless he learns that keeping all this made-up fanon material needs to be removed or he gets his admin status revoked. I probably should talk to the higher-ups running the Wikia about him, but I don't want to spend the time doing so right now when I got other things on my mind.
On the plus side, someone on TV Tropes actually ported over the old Wikipedia list over to that wiki and it is pretty well maintained. They've been doing a decent job keeping fanon stuff off of there, so only the canon stays and the quality is relatively high. (I should mention that they are allowed to do this, since the wiki uses the same Creative Commons license as Wikipedia.)--–WPA (talk) 09:15, 14 December 2016 (UTC)

Episode order

The production order of Lilo and Stitch is the actual order. While both the airdate and production orders have discrepancies, production is very clearly the intended order. "Poxy" is the first time Gantu caught an experiment, but it was aired after several episodes where he caught experiments. "Nosy" references "Hunkahunka" but got aired first. Hell, "Link" got aired after the series ended when it clearly is before the finale. The list goes on and on. The DVD for Stitch! The Movie came with an "Experiment Tracker" poster with check-marks next to each experiment saying to mark each experiment you see while watching the series. The experiments were ordered based on when they debuted in production order. 2605:E000:7D0D:CF00:9C89:19D:12A5:2C4 (talk) 06:41, 15 December 2016 (UTC)

Just because that may have possibly been the production order for Lilo & Stitch: The Series (which mind you has a citation needed on the header for the column, so we don't know that for certain unless there is a reliable source), does not mean that it is the way the episodes should be ordered. Not to mention, the "Experiment Tracker" means nothing to Wikipedia; it's just something that Disney printed to help promote The Series.
On episode list articles on Wikipedia, episode lists must be ordered based on their airing order in their country of origin, not the production code order or the perceived order of events in-universe. In fact, it's actually against the Manual of Style on writing about fiction to write in a primarily in-universe perspective. In other words, just because there are plot holes and discrepancies between episodes, doesn't mean that it's OK to rearrange the episode order to "fix" them.
Take for example Lost. In the section for the Missing Pieces "mobisodes", the episodes have their production numbers listed and they are clearly out of order. However, they are still arranged based on their original air dates, as it should be, and this should not change. Same goes with The Simpsons, even though they don't follow any real particular timeline like Lost does. Looking at season eight alone, the production codes are also not "in order". The eighth episode of the season (prod. num. 4F07) is followed by an episode with a lower production number (3F24), but they are still correctly ordered based on their original air dates (the former episode debuted December 29, 1997, and the latter debuted January 5, 1998).
I'm sorry if my edit offended you in any way, but the list has to abide by Wikipedia's policies regardless.--–WPA (talk) 07:41, 15 December 2016 (UTC)

Ok. Two things. First, I'm not referring to in-universe perspective, I am referring to official order. Many tv shows are aired out of the creators' intended order. Sometimes the creators rectify this when releasing their shows on DVD by listing them in the correct order. If this were about in-universe perspective, it wouldn't be going by production OR airdate order.

But regardless, if it has to be that way, fine. But, at the very least, please don't try to impose that on TV Tropes (assuming you're the troper). TV Tropes does not operate under the same rules as Wikipedia. 2605:E000:7D0D:CF00:9C89:19D:12A5:2C4 (talk) 08:04, 15 December 2016 (UTC)

Edit you made to "Lilo & Stitch" on 28 May 2017: Added a brief summary paragraph in the lead section, etc.

It says, "a Hawaiian human girl named Lilo Pelekai who lost her and her older sister's parents in a car accident"

Something missing? Or a couple of words repeated? --RenniePet (talk) 01:47, 20 August 2018 (UTC)

  • @RenniePet: Nope, that is exactly how it was intended. It's meant to be in reference to the fact that Lilo and her older sister Nani lost their parents to a car accident. However, I can see how the writing probably makes the syntax rather ambiguous, so I'll rewrite it. –WPA (talk) 03:24, 20 August 2018 (UTC)

Hi, I'm RonBot, a script that checks new non-free file uploads. I have found that the subject image that you recently uploaded was more than 5% in excess of the Non-free content guideline size of 100,000 pixels. I have tagged the image for a standard reduction, which (for jpg/gif/png/svg files) normally happens within a day. Please check the reduced image, and make sure that the image is not excessively corrupted. Other files will be added to Category:Wikipedia non-free file size reduction requests for manual processing. There is a full seven-day period before the original oversized image will be hidden; during that time you might want to consider editing the original image yourself (perhaps an initial crop to allow a smaller reduction or none at all). A formula for the calculation of the desired size can be found at WP:Image resolution, along with instructions on how to tag the image in the rare cases that it requires an oversized image (typically about 0.2% of non-free uploads are tagged as necessarily oversized). Please contact the bot owner if you have any questions, or you can ask them at Wikipedia talk:Non-free content. See User:RonBot for info on how to not get these messages. Hi, this my alternative account. I just changed the logo back, it's in the public domain since it "consists of typefaces, individual words, slogans, or simple geometric shapes", and thus will not get resized by a bot. As for the "negative space", we could discuss this if you'd like? Thanks! DanWarpp (talk) 20:34, 10 July 2019 (UTC)

@DanWarpp: Well, one is that we don't need such a large logo for a simple infobox. The letters in the logo are pretty big to begin with, so it's already clear to see. Also the "negative space", i.e. all the the empty transparent parts surrounding the logo, aren't really necessary. It just adds an excessive buffer. The infobox itself already provides a good enough buffer when displaying images, so why do we need the excess?
And while you're probably right on the public domain licensing, the Disney logo in there (even though, it too isn't copyrightable as a typeface-based logo itself) is still protected as a trademark. That non-free use rationale is more erring on the side of caution since all this is relating to a Disney-owned copyright.
If anything, though, I did make a request at the Graphics Lab for an SVG version of the logo to be made instead. After all, it would be much better to use an SVG file for such a simple logo than to use a raster PNG image. –WPA (talk) 21:00, 10 July 2019 (UTC)
@DanWarpp: Update: (You probably got the notification already because of my undo, but yeah, anyway...)
Because there was a non-free use rationale in your separate upload of the logo, it got resized by DatBot when it detected that your version was too big for a non-free image. Now it has some jagged-looking aliasing. This is because the PNG file you uploaded was encoded with indexed color instead of RGB color. (I checked your upload under Photoshop to confirm this.) Wikipedia's image resizing bots don't resize PNG files encoded as indexed color images anywhere near as well as those encoded as RGB color images. –WPA (talk) 00:48, 11 July 2019 (UTC)

WatchMojo

Hi, I see you reverted one of my edits (and the bit about koalas, which was made by an IP) removing watchmojo as a source, there is a discussion going on at Wikipedia:Reliable_sources/Noticeboard#WatchMojo which, while on going, leans strongly unreliable. I have not removed the old interviews they did and some ABOUTSELF stuff, which is usable, but the bulk of their content is listicles, and don't seem to have any fact checking or editorial oversight, which means that they shouldn't be used as a source for facts. Thanks for your consideration. Hemiauchenia (talk) 23:57, 17 May 2020 (UTC)

@Hemiauchenia: I didn't read this message until after I wrote mine on your talk page. (Also, I didn't blame you for the koala thing; I knew that one was an IP edit and added a message on the IP's talk page about that one first.) However, I don't think you should've begun removing the WatchMojo information and sources before starting a discussion for consensus and continue doing so while it's ongoing, even if it's currently leaning towards mostly unreliable. It should be discuss, find consensus, close after enough discussion or time has passed, and then act based on the final consensus reached. The lack of a link to the ongoing discussion in your edit summaries didn't help because they came across as opinion-motivated. Still, I did agree that it shouldn't be used for most objective information (didn't know or realize they did interviews, though). –WPA (talk) 00:26, 18 May 2020 (UTC)

I have added additional clarification on my talk page, which I hope helps. Most of the interviews were around 2009-2011 or so, before they moved to almost entirely listicles. This comment might be misplaced (and my on the talk page was) because of a bug with mobile view. Thanks for the consideration. Kind regards. Hemiauchenia (talk) 00:39, 18 May 2020 (UTC)

Hey, do you know why navbox isn’t collapsed by default? (Or is it just here?) It’s just too big for the article. Best regards, RodRabelo7 (talk) 04:19, 23 March 2023 (UTC)

Normally, navboxes without a state added only collapse automatically if there are more than one navbox on the article or page it's added to. Otherwise, it automatically expands if it's the only one on that page. –WPA (talk) 04:25, 23 March 2023 (UTC)

Pinball FX3

Hi. I was looking at the Pinball FX 2 page and by looking at the editing history I noticed you were the one who created this chart organizing the games here. Is there any chance you could create a similar chart for the Pinball FX 3 page? The list on that page doesn't look as nice as the chart on the Pinball FX 2 page and I really don't know how to create a chart like that.Wikieditor9117 (talk) 19:29, 16 July 2023 (UTC)
