Please bear these points in mind while editing Wikipedia

The Wikipedia tutorial is a good place to start learning about Wikipedia. If you have any questions, see the help pages, add a question to the village pump or ask me on my talk page. By the way, you can sign your name on Talk and discussion pages using four tildes, like this: ~~~~ (the software will replace them with your signature and the date). Again, welcome!

This is an automated message from MadmanBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Tenille Bentley, and it appears to include material copied directly from http://www.linkedin.com/pub/dir/tenille/+/+/.

It is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article. The article will be reviewed to determine if there are any copyright issues.

If substantial content is duplicated and it is not public domain or available under a compatible license, it will be deleted. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material. You may use such publications as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. See our copyright policy for further details. (If you own the copyright to the previously published content and wish to donate it, see Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials for the procedure.) A tag has been placed on Tenille Bentley, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Business for more information.

If you think that the page was nominated in error, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but do not hesitate to add information that is consistent with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. A tag has been placed on Tenille Bentley, requesting that it be deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under two or more of the criteria for speedy deletion, by which articles can be deleted at any time, without discussion. If the page meets any of these strictly-defined criteria, then it may be soon be deleted by an administrator. The reasons it has been tagged are:

  • It seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. (See section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion.) Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Business for more information.
  • It appears to be a clear copyright infringement. (See section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion.) For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. However, even if you use one of these processes to release copyrighted material to Wikipedia, it still needs to comply with the other policies and guidelines to be eligible for inclusion. If you would like any assistance with this, you can ask a question at the help desk.

  • It appears to be about a person, organization (band, club, company, etc.), individual animal, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. (See section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion.) Such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

Advice

[edit]

The problems with your articles were:

  • Tenille Bentley at least was partly copied from other sites. Wikipedia cannot accept copied material unless a formal copyright release is made - see Wikipedia:Copy-paste. That is not usually worth doing because material written for other purposes is generally unsuitable.
  • They were far too promotional in tone. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not an advertising medium.
  • Socialite Media was actually written as a message from the company, in the first person: "Our Values... What We Do... What We Expect From You... " etc
  • Both of them were written to sell their subject, full of "puffery" - glowing adjectives: "fast growing and successful... highly sought after... Unique... impressive... sought-after... triumphant story of strength and persistence... highly sought after... "
Those are not encyclopedia articles, they are blatant advertisements, and anything like that is deleted from Wikipedia at sight. Anyone who persists in posting that sort of stuff is likely to be blocked as a spammer. An encyclopedia article has no opinions, only facts, neutrally stated and referenced to reliable sources. You need to tear those up and go right back to the drawing board, write not for the company or the person but for Wikipedia about them, from outside, preferably basing your article not on their websites or their opinions but on what other people say about them independently - see advice in User:JohnCD/Not a noticeboard.
  • Wikipedia is selective about subjects for articles: they need to have Wikipedia:Notability, which is not a matter of opinion but has to be demonstrated by references showing "significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject." Significant means more than just listing-type mentions; reliable excludes Myspace, Facebook, blogs, places where anyone can post anything; independent excludes the subject's own website, affiliated ones and anything based on press releases. The test is, have people not connected with the subject thought it significant enough to write substantial comment about? See also WP:42. Think hard about notability, because if you cannot establish it you will be wasting your time.

There is good general advice at Wikipedia:Your first article. You could consider using the WP:Article wizard to help you through the process. JohnCD (talk) 23:09, 6 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

If this is you in Elance and this is your client, I must warn you that you will find editing Wikipedia for money much more difficult than you think, and neither you nor your clients are likely to be happy with the result.

  • Unlike the "notice-board" type of site like Myspace and Facebook, a Wikipedia article is not owned by anyone, not its first author and least of all its subject. If you put in an article, others can and will edit it, you will not be able to control it or insist on your preferred version, and you may well encounter Wikipedia's Law of Unintended Consequences.
  • Wikipedia is not for advertising or promotion of any kind, and is extremely resistant to attempts to use it in that way. Wikipedia:Neutral point of view is a fundamental policy. People in the PR trade, or closely involved with a subject, often seem to find it difficult or impossible to write in a neutral tone; probably because that is what their clients expect and pay for. That is one reason why editing with a conflict of interest is strongly discouraged.
  • Editing for pay is not actually prohibited (because anonymity of accounts would make that impossible to enforce) but it is viewed with deep suspicion, considerable effort goes into identifying and tracking paid articles, and they are subject to close scrutiny at central "notice-boards" like WP:COI/N and WP:PAIDWATCH. Being paid is not directly a reason for deletion, but it is a reason for careful checks on notability and referencing.
  • Wikipedia articles are very rapidly indexed by Google and other search engines. If you post an article and it is deleted, for some time a Google search will find it, and anyone clicking on the link will see the deletion log with the reasons for deletion. This can cause embarrassment. If the article is the subject of a deletion debate, the subject's notability will be discussed for a week, and Google searches may link to that debate.
