Disambiguation link notification for March 21[edit]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Rockhead (fish), you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Washington (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Missing species[edit]

Hello Wilhelmina, another update with some genera with missing species pages: Melanarctia, Popoudina, Pseudoradiarctia, Radiarctia and a very big one: Spilarctia. Regarding this last genus: it has very good coverage on wikispecies. Could you, when making species pages, use wikispecies as a source and add the synonyms also (including the redirect)? This would save me a lot of extra work. Cheers! Ruigeroeland (talk) 11:59, 21 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

At long last, done! As you’ll see, I’ve added some shortening to my sig! (talk) 04:47, 25 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Nice work! I have another batch (there were more, but I already fixed those): Tigrioides, Sarosa, Poliopastea and Rhabdatomis. There is also Palearctia. Regarding this last genus: this one also has very good coverage on wikispecies. Could you, when making species pages, use wikispecies as a source and add the synonyms also (including the redirect)? Please also add the subspecies if you don't mind.. No worries though, this genus is very much smaller than Spilarctia was.. :) Ruigeroeland (talk) 17:18, 27 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Done! :) As you’ll see, I’ve added some shortening to my sig! (talk) 17:44, 30 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Cheers Elephant[edit]

Dear Wilhelmina,

Per the Cheers Elephant article(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:Articles_for_creation/Cheers_Elephant), I am curious as to why it was rejected. I recall the rejection asking for notable sources, but I'm having trouble seeing what's inadequate as 6 independent sources were used.

Myself and AndrewRLM have taken time to put together all of the article's information with clear citations as I'm wondering what we could be doing better. Could you please review the article and specifically cite areas needing improvement so we can meet Wikipedia's standards of publishing?

Thank you, Alex — Preceding unsigned comment added by 23.240.171.160 (talk) 05:12, 25 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I'm BracketBot. I have automatically detected that your edit to Fringelip snake-eel may have broken the syntax by modifying 2 "()"s. If you have, don't worry: just edit the page again to fix it. If I misunderstood what happened, or if you have any questions, you can leave a message on my operator's talk page.

WikiCup 2014 March newsletter[edit]

A quick update as we are half way through round two of this year's competition. WikiCup newcomer Smithsonian Institution Godot13 (submissions) (Pool E) leads, having produced a massive set of featured pictures for Silver certificate (United States), an article also brought to featured list status. Former finalist Oh, better far to live and die / Under the brave black flag I fly... Adam Cuerden (submissions) (Pool G) is in second, which he owes mostly to his work with historical images, including a number of images from Urania's Mirror, an article also brought to good status. 2010 champion (Pool C) is third overall, thanks to contributions relating to naval history, including the newly featured Japanese battleship Nagato. Rhodesia Cliftonian (submissions), who currently leads Pool A and is sixth overall, takes the title for the highest scoring individual article of the competition so far, with the top importance featured article Ian Smith.

With 26 people having already scored over 100 points, it is likely that well over 100 points will be needed to secure a place in round 3. Recent years have required 123 (2013), 65 (2012), 41 (2011) and 100 (2010). Remember that only 64 will progress to round 3 at the end of April. Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page; if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points equally. If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. If you want to help out with the WikiCup, please do your bit to help keep down the review backlogs! Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove yourself from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. Your third sandbox[edit]

Hi. What's all that stuff that's been going on in User:Wilhelmina Will/Sandbox 3? It doesn't seem to be benefiting Wikipedia in any way - is it some script that's gone out of control?  —SMALLJIM  09:53, 8 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

It's mostly a way to exercise my efficiency - the prolonged version I've been doing lately is my Lent ritual for this year. Spring in Wikipedia is lovely! Just avoid the articles on flowers... (talk) 17:23, 8 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I'm really sorry to be a killjoy, but I think it should stop. No benefit to the project, wasting resources, boosting your edit count, and probably contrary to Bot policy. Can we just resolve this quietly? I don't think either of us would gain anything from it being raised at WP:AN to get other opinions.  —SMALLJIM  17:36, 9 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
@Smalljim:But what about Lent? When you've made a commitment for Lent you've got to see it through. Why don't I keep my commitment until Good Friday and then stop for good - I'm weary of it anyway - and then we can just let this blow over quietly. Please? Spring in Wikipedia is lovely! Just avoid the articles on flowers... (talk) 18:14, 9 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Why not just make one token edit each day? I'm sure your deity would understand.  —SMALLJIM  18:19, 9 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
@Smalljim: 10, in that case. Till Good Friday, and that's the end of it. Then will you please let this go? Spring in Wikipedia is lovely! Just avoid the articles on flowers... (talk) 18:22, 9 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
OK, 10 a day till then, but you've got to stop eating chocolate too :) Thanks,  —SMALLJIM  18:29, 9 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Alright then! :) Spring in Wikipedia is lovely! Just avoid the articles on flowers... (talk) 18:30, 9 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Apology[edit]

Wilhelmina Will, you've convinced me that the edits you made today were of a completely different nature to those made earlier, which won't be repeated. Even though I was sure that I had considered today's edits thoroughly enough to warrant making the above report, I was wrong, and I apologise to you for that. I hope you'll continue to benefit Wikipedia by your work. Please accept my best wishes,  —SMALLJIM  22:05, 10 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Bombycidae[edit]

Hi Wilhelmina. Great work on finishing some families. Regarding the Bombycidae, taxanomy for this family is a real mess. Please continue making the species using LepIndex, because there seem to be little to no other sources. Regretably, LepIndex is lacking info on locations for most species of this family, so it is taking me longer than usual to add info to your new pages. Could you hold off creating a new batch until I finished the ones you did today? If you wanna help: could you please move all Hygrochroa species pages to Apatelodes species pages? It seems Hygrochroa is now considered a synonym of Apatelodes. Thanks! Ruigeroeland (talk) 13:50, 9 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Bucculatrix[edit]

Hi Wilhelmina, I see you arrived at creating Bucculatrix species. These species have a lot of info available (since they are primarily found in Europe and North America). Could I ask you to limit the number of new pages for this family to about 30 a day? Furthermore, the list we have on the genus page is outdated. Could I ask you to use the sandbox I created (and start with the European ones and work to the bottom)? No need to change the list in the genus article, I will do that when all species have a page. I can then use the category to create a full list. The Sandbox is found here: [1]. Cheers! Ruigeroeland (talk) 09:27, 16 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Pause[edit]

Hi Wilhelmina, could you please not add new articles until I have the chance to clear the backlog? I have an enormous list by now. The Buccalatrix species take a lot more time, since there is much info available. Furthermore, a heads-up: I will be on vacation for a week starting April 30th, so if you could please not make any new articles from April 29th to May 7th I would appreciate it. I wont be able to check and improve them during that time and would not like to have a backlog of 100s of articles to clean up after that.. :) Ruigeroeland (talk) 07:13, 23 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Wonderful! BTW, about the Lepidoptera-break starting on the 29th - does that go for the 29th UTC, Wikipedia's time, or the time zone in your region? I don't think our regions have the same time zone - when you usually start building up the articles I've made on one day it's very late at night where I am, so I just want to make sure that I have a clear sense of when to pause on the moth articles. Hi Wilhelmina, probably best to just make the last batch on the 28th (your timezone). I will probably be able to check some on the 29th (my timezone). Cheers Elephant 2[edit]

Wilhemina -

Following up about the the Cheers Elephant article(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:Articles_for_creation/Cheers_Elephant) and the reason why it was rejected. My colleague (AndrewRLM) and I ave provided notable sources, but I'm having trouble seeing what's inadequate as 6 independent sources were used.

Myself and AndrewRLM have taken time to put together all of the article's information with clear citations as I'm wondering what we could be doing better.

Could you please review the article and specifically cite areas needing improvement so we can meet Wikipedia's standards of publishing?

Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Stratplyr01 (talkcontribs) 18:47, 27 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Motto of the Day Help Request April 2014[edit]

Motto of the Day (WP:MOTD) is in a state of emergency and really needs your help! There are not enough editors who are reviewing or nominating mottos at Wikipedia:Motto of the day/Nominations/In review, and this probably means that you will notice a red link or “This space for rent” as our mottos for the next weeks and months.

Please take a moment to review the nominations and nominate your own new mottos at Wikipedia:Motto of the day/Nominations/In review and Wikipedia:Motto of the day/Nominations/'Specials. Any help would be appreciated! MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 09:13, 29 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

This message has been sent by pjoef on behalf of Motto of the Day to all editors of the English Wikipedia who are showing MOTD's templates on their pages, and to all the participants to MOTD: (page, template, and category).

A favor![edit]

Wilhelmina Will, I have a bit of an unorthodox request for you. I thoroughly appreciated and valued your copy-edits for some of my previous articles, and I wanted to see if you would be able to do a brief copy-edit of User:Caponer/Charles M. Williams before I formally publish it into the Wikisphere. The paraphrasing is a bit close to the original sources because there is not a lot of flexibility in rewording given the content of the sources. I was wondering if you would be able to take a quick look at it and make any necessary changes before I move it to its final location. I know it's a lot to ask, but you are the first person I though of to turn to! Thank you again for all your extraordinary contributions to Wikipedia and let me know if there is anything I can do for you in return to repay you for your generosity! -- Caponer (talk) 12:07, 30 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Sure thing! I'll take a look at it in a day or two, if that's alright! :) Spring in Wikipedia is lovely! Just avoid the articles on flowers... (talk) 16:38, 30 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
@Caponer: I'm sorry about the delay, but having looked the article over, I notice there are a lot of sources used, a lot of times each. If you can, it would help me a good deal if you could specify the problem areas; i.e. where the words most need to be recomposed to differentiate from the sources. Thanks in advance! :) Spring in Wikipedia is lovely! Just avoid the articles on flowers... (talk) 04:05, 8 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
It is quite alright--I've been a bit delayed in completing my own Wikipedia tasks lately! The main source utilized is the one listed below. I just want to ensure that the majority of the article does not come off as a closely-worded version of the below article. The article should be mostly recomposed so that this isn't an issue, but it always helps to have another pair of eyes review for copyvios just for good measure! -- Caponer (talk) 03:23, 9 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • "Harvard Business School Professor Emeritus Charles M. Williams Dies at 94". Harvard Business School website. Boston, Massachusetts: Harvard Business School. November 21, 2011. Retrieved April 28, 2014.
@Caponer: Thanks! I looked it over, and for the most part I'd say it's been paraphrased about as much as it can be, given the source's wording like you said. If anything could do with further rewording, I'd suggest the last paragraph of "Academic career", the "Business career" section, and the bit about the Spangler Campus Center in the "Awards and recognition" section. If you'd like me to work on these sections or offer rewording suggestions, let me know! :) Spring in Wikipedia is lovely! Just avoid the articles on flowers... (talk) 01:18, 10 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Wikilinking[edit]

Hi, and thanks for your work on the English Wikipedia.

I noticed an article you worked on. Just a short note to point out that we don’t normally link:

  • dates
  • years
  • commonly known geographical terms (including well-known country-names), and
  • common terms you’d look up in a dictionary (unless significantly technical).

This applies to infoboxes, too.

Please don't link these items, as you did recently after my unlinking of them. If you have problems with this, please ask me.

Thanks, and my best wishes.

WikiCup 2014 April newsletter[edit]

Round 3 of the 2014 WikiCup has just begun; 32 competitors remain. Pool G's Oh, better far to live and die / Under the brave black flag I fly... Adam Cuerden (submissions) was Round 2's highest scorer, with a large number of featured picture credits. In March/April, he restored star charts from Urania's Mirror, lithographs of various warships (such as SMS Gefion) and assorted other historical media. Second overall was Pool E's Smithsonian Institution Godot13 (submissions), whose featured list Silver certificate (United States) contains dozens of scans of banknotes recently promoted to featured picture status. Third was Pool G's United States ChrisGualtieri (submissions) who has produced a large number of good articles, many, including Falkner Island, on Connecticut-related topics. Other successful participants included Rhodesia Cliftonian (submissions), who saw three articles (including the top-importance Ian Smith) through featured article candidacies, and Washington, D.C. Caponer (submissions), who saw three lists (including the beautifully-illustrated list of plantations in West Virginia) through featured list candidacies. High-importance good articles promoted this round include narwhal from Canada Reid, iain james (submissions), tiger from Wales Cwmhiraeth (submissions) and The Lion King from Minas Gerais Igordebraga (submissions). We also saw our first featured topic points of the competition, awarded to Nepal Czar (submissions) and Indiana Red Phoenix (submissions) for their work on the Sega Genesis topic. No points have been claimed so far for good topics or featured portals.

192 was our lowest qualifying score, again showing that this WikiCup is the most competitive ever. In previous years, 123 (2013), 65 (2012), 41 (2011) or 100 (2010) secured a place in Round 3. Pool H was the strongest performer, with all but one of its members advancing, while only the two highest scorers in Pools G and F advanced. At the end of June, 16 users will advance into the semi-finals. Good luck! pagename[edit]

You've created many pages (hundreds?) with '''''{{pagename}}''''' is a species of as the first line. Could you please change these to '''''{{subst:PAGENAME}}''''' is a species of? The result will be like this: [2]. All these articles are now listed at Category:Pages which use a template in place of a magic word, and still show "pagename" when you open them instead of the actual title. Thanks! OA for Writing Course?[edit]

Hi Wilhelmina Will! I am looking for two online ambassadors to help with a course I'm teaching in the Education program. More specifically, I'm hoping to find a few ambassadors who can review student proposals for possible edits and sources from July 25th to July 30 and then review article drafts from July 30 to August 11. I'm working on putting the full schedule up on the course page but those would be the main duties of the ambassadors involved. Think you'd be interested? WikiCup 2014 June newsletter[edit]

After an extremely close race, Round 3 is over. 244 points secured a place in Round 4, which is comparable to previous years- 321 was required in 2013, while 243 points were needed in 2012. Pool C's Smithsonian Institution Godot13 (submissions) was the round's highest scorer, mostly due to a 32 featured pictures, including both scans and photographs. Also from Pool C, Scotland Casliber (submissions) finished second overall, claiming three featured articles, including the high-importance Grus (constellation). Third place was Pool B's , whose contributions included featured articles Russian battleship Poltava (1894) and Russian battleship Peresvet. Pool C saw the highest number of participants advance, with six out of eight making it to the next round.

The round saw this year's first featured portal, with Republic of Rose Island Sven Manguard (submissions) taking Portal:Literature to featured status. The round also saw the first good topic points, thanks to Florida 12george1 (submissions) and the 2013 Atlantic hurricane season. This means that all content types have been claimed this year. Other contributions of note this round include a featured topic on Maya Angelou's autobiographies from Idaho Figureskatingfan (submissions), a good article on the noted Czech footballer Tomáš Rosický from Bartošovice v Orlických horách Cloudz679 (submissions) and a now-featured video game screenshot, freely released due to the efforts of Republic of Rose Island Sven Manguard (submissions).

The judges would like to remind participants to update submission pages promptly. This means that content can be checked, and allows those following the competition (including those participating) to keep track of scores effectively. This round has seen discussion about various aspects of the WikiCup's rules and procedures. Those interested in the competition can be assured that formal discussions about how next year's competition will work will be opened shortly, and all are welcome to voice their views then. Disambiguation link notification for July 6[edit]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Apomecynini, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Cauca. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Endoxyla[edit]

Hi Wilhelmina. Nice work on the Cossids. Could I ask you to make the articles for the species in the genus Endoxyla last? The list on wikipedia not ok. It includes very many synonyms. It is easier to sort these out when all others are done. Thanks! Ruigeroeland (talk) 13:07, 7 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • There's a new issue that was found yesterday—the "Release" section of the article does not have any references. Otherwise, the nomination looks good. Please stop by as soon as possible to address this. Many thanks. BlueMoonset (talk) 18:22, 30 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion nomination of Lagocheirus xileuco[edit]

Hello Wilhelmina Will,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Lagocheirus xileuco for deletion, because the article doesn't clearly say why the subject is important enough to be included in an encyclopedia.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion, but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. The Newspaper (talk) 02:14, 9 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Crambidae[edit]

Hi Wilhelmina. Great that the Cossids are done! I see the Crambidae are next on the list. This is a very large family. Luckily, there is a pretty good source. Would you mind using the pyraloidea database as the primary source? Furthermore, I guess it would be best to do a sunfamily at a time. Would you mind adding the subfamily categories and stub-types, instead of the family ones and please add the authorities? Thanks! Ruigeroeland (talk) 07:19, 15 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
