copyright tag on user page[edit]

Just using my user page as a sandbox to try stuff out. Is it preferable to use the talk page? Irene Ringworm 07:33, 28 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use images aren't allowed in user pages[edit]

You can't have Image:The Technique 12-01-2006.jpg on your user page. It is a fair use image. Rule #9 of the fair use image rules prevents images from being on user pages. If you don't understand that, Durin is very good at explaining it. You can ask him at his talk page. I intend to check back tommorow. You need to remove that image by then or I will. Will (Talk - contribs) 07:26, 28 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Do I have rights to use the image in my userspace if I was a participant in its creation? Specifically, I am cited in the colophon of The Technique. —Disavian (talk/contribs) 08:06, 28 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Please assume good faith when dealing with other editors. Thank you. —Disavian (talk/contribs) 22:10, 28 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Icons[edit]

When you look at User:MacGyverMagic/Articles you can see what icon I used. It's not particularly flashy, but it works. Alternatively, I'd say any of the images you posted to my page work fine. - Mgm|(talk) 10:07, 28 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Protected edit requests[edit]

when you make a request, you must show and tell the exact changes that are to be made. That helps administarators in understanding and completing your request. You show your ability to code in your comment, so just practice in the sandbox and then tell what changes you want on the talk page. Thanks, Cbrown1023 14:28, 28 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It's just, I found your note stating you would just created your own if we did not do it a little... dismissive? upsetting? Cbrown1023 23:12, 28 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Format[edit]

I do not want to seem unreasonable, but please tell me why I should reformat my talk page?--Anthony.bradbury 20:45, 28 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry. but absolutely no other person has had a problem. None at all. Perhaps you might look at your settings.--Anthony.bradbury 20:53, 28 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

New warnings[edit]

No, I probably will not change it, because (a) That page is really just a placeholder for a future, more inclusive page, and (b) I actually prefer (and use) the old templates, rather then the new ones. Thanks for asking though. Prodego talk 21:23, 28 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the heads up! It looks just fine on my screen, interestingly, I also have a 1024x768 screen. Well, I fixed the bottom quote with a {{clear}}. I really don't know of anything else that is wrong since everything fits nicely in my screen. If you could take a quick look and tell me if anything else needs changing, I'll be very appreciative. Thanks! Lordmontu (talk) (contribs) 23:14, 28 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Edit summaries[edit]

I do not know how to access edit summaries especially when they are not available in the articles. What I did to Stepanakert article can not be considered a vandalism. I also can not send an email to you although I am logged in with a valid email address. When I try to send an email wikipedia tells me I need to be logged in with an email address. Isnt it strange??? —Preceding unsigned comment added by ArmenianNY (talkcontribs)

I still don't understand you. Who are you? Are you a real man or an automated answering service. What do you have to do with edit summary. Who gave you authorization to be the watchdog against vandalism. I think it is your problem if it takes time until you check for vandalism. WHy should I be concerned? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Armenian (talkcontribs)

fair use image on my user page[edit]

You will need to remove the image fair use image Image:Taichung City flag.gif from your user page. Rule #9 of the fair use rules doesn't allow them in the user namespace.

BTW: Your currency images are in the gray area. You might want to ask what to do about them at the policy portion of the Village Pump. Please let me know what they tell you or send me a link to the section that you ask in. Will (Talk - contribs) 01:00, 29 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for reminding me. I will remove it, and at the same time, go through each image on my user page. Please allow some time, as there are many. Could you give me 1 or 2 examples of the currency images I uploaded? I don't remember any on the top of my head. I may have edited the description, though. --ChoChoPK (球球PK) (talk | contrib) 01:06, 29 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
They are on the top right of your user page. It is not whether you uploaded them; it's where you use them.
Will (Talk - contribs) 01:09, 29 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Ah right, those are first two images I found during this fair-use-bash process. I thought u're talking about something else. Cheers. --ChoChoPK (球球PK) (talk | contrib) 01:15, 29 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding edit summaries[edit]

Hello brother, how r u, hope u are uncomfortable with my article named manyam zamindar. Now a days i am very busy in my daily works, so i am less concentrating on my articles in wikipedia.

First of all, i have to tell u one thing. i am native of yanam. i am going to write a book on the history of french rule in yanam. So, i am collecting all the available details. Regarding, Manyam zamindar i am getting information bit by bit, so i am editing them. In ur life u may not br able to visit yanam and speak to its real natives who are french nationals. What i am editing is truth which is getting better day by day when i meet different kinds of people. i dont know how to write edit summaries, but i am sure that iam not a vandal, i was never involved in hurting others or writing bad about other articles. My scope of writing is confined to yanam and pondicherry. u can refer my articles brother and check for any vandalism present in it. Now a days i am really busy, so much that i am even not able to visit wikipedia. I am genuine, and my article is genuine. if u feel it doesn't meet wikipedia's terms and conditions then delete it. Because, u may erase and article but not truth. Hope u have a nice time in wikipedia brother. bye, take care.Bsskchaitanya 08:45, 29 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

native english yes[edit]

in response to your question, english is my native language, save for the fact that my mother is a linguist, and thus i know a loose smattering of many languages, french, latin, german, even some spanish,

i have the pronunciation of the german language down mostly,i just need to work on word definitions,i can sing in perfect tune with fully german songs :)

so understandably my english suffers some ya?

P.S. i also spend the other parts of my free time with computers and video games mostly,so im working on the system dialect :)

vandalism[edit]

Sorry, will. I was actually quoting something that i found in the aristotle article that seemed extremely unlikely, and proved the poster's point. I really didn't mean to vandalize. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 134.126.199.235 (talkcontribs)

there should be an archiveheader setting in the config GeorgeMoney (talk) 00:02, 31 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Your user page is too wide[edit]

Thanks for the input. I welcome feedback as always by other editors. I have tested my user page on other screen resolutions and see the issue at hand. My opinion on the matter is that it doesn't cover up anything too important; most of the content on the right side of my userpage contain internal links, that can be found elsewhere anyway. Additionally, such a change would be drastic, so I'm afraid I won't be able to do anything about it right now. I will, however, keep your problem in mind, and see if I can fix it when I have time. I edit from an LCD monitor, so I understand where you are coming from. It hadn't been brought to my attention until now, so thank you for doing so. In the meantime, I'll try to put a note in my header explaining the problem. Thanks for your understanding. —Pilotguy (radio check) 01:16, 31 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

re[edit]

  1. It should not use any extra space than needed
  2. That is a bug in the js
  3. nope
  4. nope
  5. Still the bug in js

Also: The archiveheader is not set when in 'a' mode. Also, you should not only put the <noinclude> on the actual talk header, but also on the settings. GeorgeMoney (talk) 00:34, 3 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I was answering:

I just tried the code you sent (rather than the templates). Some problems as listed below.

        * First, the your code does not respect the user box column. How do I tell it to not use that space?
        * Second, the section is collapsed by default, but the show/hide link starts out at "Hide". I have to click it twice to show it.
        * Third, the section links don't work when the section is collapsed. Is there a way to expand the section when a section link is used?
        * Fourth, can I use an icon for the Show/Hide link?
        * Fifth, your comment says to leave the "display:none" in. However, it works better without it. The default state is expanded, but at least the Show/Hide link now reflects the correct state. (I did want some sections to default to expanded anyway.)

My test is at User:Will Pittenger:Map of My User Space Will (Talk - contribs) 09:05, 29 January 2007 (UTC)

GeorgeMoney (talk) 02:00, 3 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Nah there's no other system for this. GeorgeMoney (talk) 02:11, 3 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Nope, as i'm not an administrator and therefore i can't edit MediaWiki:Common.js, and MediaWiki_talk:Common.js does not get alot of attention so it would not help to comment there GeorgeMoney (talk) 02:16, 3 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

sorry I missed the no-include tag[edit]

I've now edited many hundreds of templates due to closing most of the Wikipedia:User categories for discussion debates for several months, and that was the first time I dropped a tag. Nonetheless, apologies for that.--Mike Selinker 14:10, 3 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

NeilEvans is vandalising Brian Krause article[edit]

Over and over again. Both me and "TrueFuzz" agrees on this. "NeilEvans" started by delteing large amounts now he has become fixated on editing and destrying details. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by BoydBowen (talkcontribs) 17:41, 3 February 2007 (UTC).[reply]

User:BoydBowen[edit]

I saw your comments on the talkpage of this blocked user. As a minor factual correction, the user he claimed to have reached an agreement with does exist; the redlink means that there is no userpage, but you can click on contributions and find a few. In any event, though, I had to block the account based on the comment in BoydBowen's last edit summary, rendering the other issues kind of moot. Regards, Newyorkbrad 04:41, 4 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

ThomasFan13 warning[edit]

I noticed that you posted a warning to User:ThomasFan13 just after I did, and there appears to be something wrong with your template. I don't know if you're aware, but the warning template system has been changed somewhat. Akradecki 04:49, 4 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, I see what happened...the first time you left the "4" out of it, so it didn't expand. Ok. Your level four trumps my level 3...thanks! Akradecki 06:25, 4 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Reverting good faith edits[edit]

When you revert a good faith edit like 16:54:38 →The Fifth Season, you should explain why you are reverting. It is clear you did not like the new wording. But why? Do I need to add {{uw-agf1}} to your page? Will (Talk - contribs) 05:58, 4 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I was unaware that the edit was made in good faith - from the context, it looked like "misled" was the correct word. As my userpage says, though, I run through recent changes very quickly, so I do make mistakes - if I've done something wrong, just change it back. Sorry for any inconvenience :) - Davidjk RC Patrol 06:04, 4 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I know the problem. That is why I decided not to use the template. However, perhaps you are checking things too quickly. Do you use WP:POPUPS to revert? If so, there is an option I can help you install that causes popups to always display a box that lets you override the edit summary before it is saved. Interested? Will (Talk - contribs) 06:37, 4 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I revert and warn using a hideous combination of Popups and Twinklefluff, but I'm always open to suggestions :) - Davidjk RC Patrol 06:41, 4 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Check out what I have at User:Will Pittenger/monobook.js#Options for Popups. Please manually purge (save it with no changes) the page if the section link does not work. That should enable the TOC I provide. Will (Talk - contribs) 06:52, 4 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
That works nicely, thanks :) - Davidjk RC Patrol 06:59, 4 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Popinjay article[edit]

I think the "citation needed" tags you added to the Popinjay article are somewhat over-the-top. They're on every paragraph. I've not seen any other Wikipedia articles hosed with "citation needed" tags in this way. What criteria are being applied here, please? Mr Barndoor 17:05, 5 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Narek's user page[edit]

Hi, I wasn't vandalising Narek's user page, but I was correcting a spelling error on a barnstar that I gave to him. -- Aivazovsky 20:35, 5 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Because "Nareklm" is his username, I was shortening it to his actual first name. -- Aivazovsky 20:39, 5 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
No problem. -- Aivazovsky 20:43, 5 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! -- Aivazovsky 20:49, 5 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Spelling[edit]

Hi Will, I've reverted your change to the vandalise templates spelling, please don't take it the wrong way. I have no problems with the spellings being changed, but if we are going to change them then we change everything, not just the odd template. I'd rather it was discussed at WT:UTM before this sort of change was implemented. Regards Khukri - 22:19, 5 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Editing w/o Registration[edit]

Yeah, I'm editing w/o registration 'cause I tried to register and was immediately blocked by someone simply because he/she had a problem with my username which was ZenPointOne. I have no idea why, and received no communication explaining anything to me. I was just blocked and that was that. This seemed more than a little unfair, not to mention frustrating that someone can just come along and block me for no apparent reason and without any explanation or any communication whatsoever. I'm completely new to Wikipedia, and I don't write articles but rather correct minor typos. Once I corrected the date of Innis Cosby's death as whoever wrote the article had it incorrect b/c they misread their source. Anyway, I suppose I shall continue to edit w/o registering unless someone can convince me that it's a better idea to register. I personally see no problem with my IP address showing up .... no one can do anything with that information, really, and I certainly am no vandal. I suppose I'd like to register, but not if someone is just going to rudely come along and block me again, ya dig? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.35.146.228 (talkcontribs)

Yes, it's true[edit]

.... as you can see, I have no idea what I'm doing. But I cannot help but want to correct minor typos I find and a mistake here and there (although I've only really found that one mistake). Sorry to draw your suspicions .... but I really am no vandal. How does one go about leaving an edit summary? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 71.35.146.228 (talk) 10:32, 6 February 2007 (UTC).[reply]

Sussex[edit]

The arms of East and West Sussex can be found in the following Wikipedia articles.

East Sussex West Sussex

ColinBoylett 17:17, 8 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I was looking for 'This user lives in East Sussex', I found 'This user lives in Sussex', but that turned out to an American Sussex. As Sussex is a divided County, I thought it would be useful to also have available 'This user lives in West Sussex. ColinBoylett 21:08, 8 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I was looking for one box on the left with the East Sussex County Arms, with 'This user lives in East Sussex'. An image of the Arms is in the article East Sussex, not sure if that would be usable, the only one I have found so far.

I personally do not need one for West Sussex, but thought it would be useful for those who need it, I have noticed that a lot of users in Sussex (UK) are displaying the American version of 'This user lives in Sussex'. ColinBoylett 21:45, 8 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for doing that, both boxes look just right, just the thing I was looking for, the colours look OK to me. Thanks! ColinBoylett 10:39, 9 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

re[edit]

re: archive[edit]

  • I think the problem is is it doesn't detect if the page is blank in 'a' mode to add the header. I will get this fixed

re: navbar[edit]

  • The thing is: I really don't know the problem. My only solution so-far is a complete re-write.

My edit to Spock wasn't intended to be vandalism. Psychopath doesn't mean "evil" or "crazy", as is commonly misperceived. It, in short, refers to someone who is incapable of feeling any emotion, and Spock fits this category.--208.190.153.237 00:11, 15 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
