November 2011[edit]

Hello Windlegends. If you are affiliated with some of the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest. In keeping with Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy, edits where there is a conflict of interest, or where such a conflict might reasonably be inferred, are strongly discouraged. If you have a conflict of interest, you should avoid or exercise great caution when:

  1. editing or creating articles related to you, your organization, or its competitors, as well as projects and products they are involved with;
  2. participating in deletion discussions about articles related to you, your organization or its competitors; and
  3. linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam).

Please familiarize yourself with relevant policies and guidelines, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, verifiability of information, and autobiographies.

For information on how to contribute to Wikipedia when you have a conflict of interest, please see our frequently asked questions for organizations. Thank you. DreamGuy (talk) 23:49, 6 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Potential Conflict of Interest[edit]

I noticed that your sole purpose on here is to add information about the author Charlotte Boyett-Compo and since your name is taken after one of her series, I have to ask... are you the author or someone who knows her? (Like a friend, family member, associate, someone who works for her or would benefit from promoting her.) If so, I highly recommend that you check out the page WP:COI. There's no set rule against creating your own pages, but it's discouraged because it's so incredibly hard to come across as neutral. What might seem notable to you might not pass notability standards on Wikipedia, plus it's easy to begin to feel "ownership" of an article. (WP:Own) If you are the author or someone with a vested interest in her, it's a good idea to mention this on your user or talk pages or at least in one of the various AfD entries. If you only continue to add CBC to pages there's a good chance that you will be considered someone who is just posting promotional material onto various pages and your account will be blocked. I hope I'm not coming across as hostile or mean, I just want to ensure that you are aware of how this can be perceived. You have to prove that your additions are more than just promotional.
