article on "Institute for New Culture Technologies/t0"

hi wizardman, thanks again for userfying the article on "Institute for New Culture Technologies/t0", which had been deleted before. i have now finalized the editing of the article (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Becomingx7/Institute_for_New_Culture_Technologies/t0). i had updated the article itself already during the deletion discussion, but then it was too late. in the discussion the main point of concern seemed to be that there were not enough references to coverage in secondary sources. so what i did now was mainly adding references and links to prove t0's 'notability.'

could you please have a look at the article, if it is now possible to move it back to the main namespace, and could you please tell me what are the next steps in this process?

thanks a lot for your help! Becomingx7 (talk) 19:17, 4 October 2013 (UTC)

Copyright question

Hey Wizardman, can I ask you for advice? I'm considering deleting Allen H. Greenfield since its first version, this one here (created by a sock), gets one half of its text and all of its material ("references") from the subject's own biography (the "references" under the list headed "He is quoted (and occasionally misquoted) and referred to in many books, including". Is that copyvio enough for deletion? Thanks, Drmies (talk) 17:59, 7 October 2013 (UTC)

I'll take a look. Did so a couple days ago and it looks like a rather tough situation, so I wanted to wait and check with fresh eyes. Wizardman 15:13, 10 October 2013 (UTC)

  • I'm always incredibly happy when anyone makes an effort to create any of the books at this page. It's always a little bit overwhelming when I see that so many people are adding articles and we have so few editors that can or will help weed out the articles or help create them. It warms my heart to see someone else working on this! Tokyogirl79 (。◕‿◕。) 16:37, 10 October 2013 (UTC)

International Conference on Health in the African Diaspora (ICHAD) Deletion

Hello Wizardman,

I am the administrator that created the ICHAD wiki page. I recently sent an email detailing permission by my boss to use copyright materials in the page as well a a few other pages that I have created. Is there a way that the page can be reinstated or re-reviewed so that I may make the appropriate changes?

Null edits regarding "copyright" - thanks

Thanks for reverting those false edits regarding "copyright", as at Laurentius Siemer. The back story is that the blocked editor user:Greengrounds occasionally surfaces with an IP and reverts the latest edits of a series of editors he took a disliking to prior to his being banned for abuse and vandalism. Currently he's using IP 174.3.153.23 Ozhistory (talk) 01:20, 13 October 2013 (UTC)

Did something change? I was under the impression that this copyright issue had been settled.

Please consider restoring it or enlightening me on how the issue got un-settled in the last few hours.

Hello, I'm BracketBot. I have automatically detected that your edit to Jorma Panula may have broken the syntax by modifying 1 "()"s. If you have, don't worry: just edit the page again to fix it. If I misunderstood what happened, or if you have any questions, you can leave a message on my operator's talk page.

List of unpaired brackets remaining on the page:
  • Bogányi, Sasha Mäkilä, Esa Heikkilä.<ref>[[Reader's Digest]], [[Finland]], November 1998</ref>)

Thanks, BracketBot (talk) 15:24, 13 October 2013 (UTC)

Thank you! I looked at it a while back and was flummoxed, so I just tagged it for copyvio and threw up my hands. Cheers, JNW (talk) 16:39, 13 October 2013 (UTC)

Hi, just saw your post at the closed AfD. I did not notice it was a copyvio but will recreate with non-copyvio material since there was consensus for an article on this topic. -- Green Cardamom (talk) 18:09, 13 October 2013 (UTC)

Hello Wizardman

My name is Sandra Ferrerio-Colton and I recently had my work deleted from wiki. This was originally posted on the Lucille Roberts website, But I am the sole author of this piece. I would like to post all of the work I have written on various websites here on wiki where I feel it will get better treatment. Please contact me regarding my recent speedy deletion.

Thank you Wizardman. Will be looking into wikihow shortly.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Fitnessdiva.sf (talkcontribs) 23:45, 13 October 2013 (UTC)

John Nunneley

I disagree with your deletion of John Nunneley - as clearly had at least one other reviewer. After so much work, it might have been a courtesy to contact me before deleting.

Looking again at the final version of the text, it had been expanded to cover areas of his life that were not covered in the Telegraph (his notable career in commerce - the Beeching report et al.) and had links to many new sources. Any similarity with one published source could easily be removed by altering one or two clauses either by you or by asking me to look again at it. I am now re-reading his book and can further expand it with additional page references.

It is my intention to restore an article after further revision - which has now been made unnecessarily hard work. Nedrutland (talk) 10:00, 14 October 2013 (UTC)

Bigg Boss 7

Hello Wizardman. For the last few days, and particularly in the last few hours, various sockpuppets of User:Imtitanium and User:Salarsikandar.81 have been reinserting the infringing material you removed with this edit. I can't keep up with them so have requested full protection. If this happens I won't be able to edit the page, so perhaps you could have a look and restore the latest non-infringing version. In the meantime I've opened an SPI at Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Salarsikandar.81. —Psychonaut (talk) 16:26, 14 October 2013 (UTC)

List of New York Institute of Technology faculty and staff

Hi, you recently deleted List of New York Institute of Technology faculty and staff and cited "copyright violation," and non-notable split as the reason. You did not add its content in the appropriate section at NYIT nor did you remove the link to the now deleted article. Most of the stated faculty's article mention NYIT, and this source also claims that most of them did work at NYIT. Please fix it. Regards, --Trenttrip (talk) 03:11, 16 October 2013 (UTC)

StrongLoop article

The StrongLoop article I have posted has been taken down again for copyright violation (being told it is possibly crunchbase). I have taken extreme care to phrase the information for StrongLoop differently that Crunchbase both times, referring instead to the company's own press / web material. Is there a particular sentence, paragraph or section you feel violates? I would very much like to resolve this and certainly didn't anticipate this happening a second time.

Nox Aeris

If song titles are redirected to the artist per WP:NSONG, shouldn't the same take place with album titles per WP:R#KEEP bullets 3 and 5? If "Nox Aeris" is to be used for something else, shouldn't "Nox Aeris (2012 Janus album)" [or something more concise] redirect to Janus (American band)? --Jax 0677 (talk) 21:10, 17 October 2013 (UTC)

Main Page appearance: Bob Feller

This is a note to let the main editors of Bob Feller know that the article will be appearing as today's featured article on November 3, 2013. If this article needs any attention or maintenance, it would be preferable if that could be done before its appearance on the Main Page. If you prefer that the article appear as TFA on a different date, or not at all, please ask Bencherlite (talk · contribs). You can view the TFA blurb at Wikipedia:Today's featured article/November 3, 2013. If it needs tweaking, or if it needs rewording to match improvements to the article between now and its main page appearance, please edit it, following the instructions at Wikipedia:Today's featured article/requests/instructions. The blurb as it stands now is below:

Bob Feller (1918–2010) was an American baseball pitcher who played 18 seasons in Major League Baseball for the Cleveland Indians. Feller pitched from 1936 to 1941 and from 1945 to 1956, interrupted by wartime service in the U.S. Navy. In a career spanning 570 games, Feller pitched 3,827 innings and posted a win–loss record of 266–162, with 279 complete games, 44 shutouts, and a 3.25 earned run average. He first played for the Indians aged 17 and was the first pitcher to win 24 games in a season before the age of 21. He threw no-hitters in 1940, 1946, and 1951 and also recorded 12 one-hitters; his no-hitters and one-hitters were records at the time of his retirement. He helped the Indians win a World Series title in 1948 and an American League-record 111 wins and the pennant in 1954. Feller led the American League in wins six times and in strikeouts seven times. In 1946, he recorded 348 strikeouts, a total not exceeded for 27 years. An eight-time All-Star, Feller was 36th on Sporting News's list of the 100 Greatest Baseball Players and was named the publication's "greatest pitcher of his time". He was a finalist for the Major League Baseball All-Century Team in 1999. (Full article...)

Drive-by GANs

Hi! I saw that you undid a GAN review and put it back on the queue about a week ago here. Since then, he did 3 drive-by nominations of articles that are still on the queue: Talk:Maryland Route 14, Talk:Virginia State Route 27, and Talk:Iowa Highway 173. Many of the actual primary contributors to the 3 articles have expressed objections on his talk page. Since it's clear that the nominator does not understand the GAN process or criteria, would you be willing to fail these articles? I would myself, but after he did Talk:Interstate 805/GA2, that might come off the wrong way. --Rschen7754 01:18, 18 October 2013 (UTC)

Deletion of GA Review of International System of Units

Hi Wizardman,

On 19 October you deleted the page Talk:International System of Units/GA2 on grounds that the review had been abandonded. As proposer, I do not believe this to be the case. User:Pyrotec undertook to review two articles that I proposed for GA status. We are still working on the first - History of the metric system. Once that article has been reviewed, I believe that it is Pyrotec's plan to review the other. I have replied on behalf of Pyrotec as he does not appear to have made any edits for the past five days.

Will you please restore the page in question and also undo the changes that you made to the Talk Page.

Martinvl (talk) 05:36, 21 October 2013 (UTC)

No need, it was (and still is) on my watch list and having seen that it had been deleted I clicked on the button and re-created /GA2 again. Pyrotec (talk) 19:53, 21 October 2013 (UTC)

Deletion of Count No Man Happy

Hi Wizardman,

You deleted the page For Count No Man Happy, on grounds that the Article Contained Copyrighted Material. I understand why the article cannot contain material similar to the publisher's website, however, if I add original text, and remove text from other sources, will the article meet standards? I ask before devoting resources to rewriting the article to meet this requirement, or are there other issues that need be addressed? Requested articles revamp

Hi, you told me that you were interested in requested articles, so I thought that I should let you know that there is a proposal to use a bot, and make it a lot easier to request articles (we would need some clean up of existing categories if it worked). Hard to believe editors are actually voting at this "RfA". I'd like to remove the RfA. Is the best way to do that just to delete the page (it's pointless to close something that has no content from the candidate)? And would that be okay? Thanks.--Bbb23 (talk) 21:29, 25 October 2013 (UTC)

Actually, on second glance, it does have a little bit of content. I missed it because of the markup mess.--Bbb23 (talk) 21:34, 25 October 2013 (UTC)

The user Suburban_Express was criticized and blocked because some user(s) felt that it seemed to be shared username. Pursuant to the block, our posts to the reward board and bounty board were deleted, presumably because the username was blocked. Billy Eckstine CP

Hi Wizardman, I left you a comment at Wikipedia:Copyright problems/2013 August 28 regarding the Billy Eckstine article. Regards, Jafeluv (talk) 07:55, 28 October 2013 (UTC)

Hello Wizardman, Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. I see that you removed the copy paste tag from Community Forests International in this Diff you apparently didn't take a look at the talk page and check the Wayback Machine. If you look at this archive from the month on which the tag was placed you will see the first sentence of the lead, "Community Forests International (CFI) is a volunteer-driven organization, working to connect people and their communities to the forests that sustain them." is identical to the second sentence on the archived webpage. Also a Google search of that sentence (given on the talk page) will return this page which also contains that exact sentence. Both pages have copyright notices. I have replaced the copy/paste tag with the link that currently contains that material. However, even if the page from which material was copied and pasted has changed and no longer exists it is still a copyright violation. Please check the talk page of an article before removing tags, the copy vio was explicitly spelled out. Also consider checking the Wayback Machine or other archive service for the source of copyrighted material at the time the tag was placed. I realize I should probably have removed the material or worked out a paraphrase myself but I have several ongoing editorial tasks. Best wishes. - - MrBill3 (talk) 12:56, 28 October 2013 (UTC)

I want to add that I see you are an experienced editor and admin so I (with much less experience) may not be correct in my thinking and am willing to accept any clarification or instruction on WP policy. I hope my post is properly civil and appropriate. Part of my intent is to solicit your feedback. Some of my comments have been seen as condescending, strident and/or verbose this is in no way my intent. - - MrBill3 (talk) 13:11, 28 October 2013 (UTC)

Thank you for your work on the article. I just wanted to let you know the duplicate detector didn't work before because the page pointed to was changed since it was placed in the tag and I changed the url to another page. - - MrBill3 (talk) 14:43, 28 October 2013 (UTC)

Time to step into the ring again?

[1] If you were on the Committee...well, I'm pretty sure if you're willing, you'd stand a good chance at winning a seat. I think there's been a long enough break since your last stint that you wouldn't be coming back with any agenda other than "keep the wheels on, and maybe do some fine tuning". I do confess you wrote some of the best (and most on-time) decisions during your tenure. Best wishes to you, either way: you do a lot of good things around here. Short answer: not a chance. Long answer: my wiki time is going to be extremely limited in the near future, so while I know I could whip Arbcom into shape if I wanted to, it would be counterproductive for me to use the bit of time I do have there. Wizardman 15:34, 5 November 2013 (UTC)

GA Saengerfest

Re your edit on Talk:Saengerfest/GA1, I'm not familiar enough with the bot to know why you did this. However, a recent post on my talk page from that reviewer indicates he will not be back to finish this review. The template makes it look like he's still working on it. He is not. Please tell me how the process works from here when a review has been dropped by the original reviewer. — Maile (talk) 20:07, 11 November 2013 (UTC)

I think I fixed it by editing the status on the article's talk page. — Maile (talk) 20:46, 11 November 2013 (UTC)

Cary Holladay

Hi, I wrote the Cary Holladay article which you deleted because of copyright violation. I correctly cited everything that I used. I'm not sure what "violation" there was. Please let me know, so I can fix the article. She's a noteworthy subject, and all of my hard work on the article just disappeared. Icarus of old (talk) 02:40, 12 November 2013 (UTC)

Also, is there any way to access the old page so I won't lose the hour or two of work I put in? It seems like it's in bad faith to delete the article outright, given that "Only if the history is unsalvageably corrupted should it be deleted in its entirety; earlier versions without infringement should be retained." New baseball notability discussion

I have started a new baseball notability discussion at Wikipedia talk:Notability (sports). I am interested in your take and would appreciate it if you read and comment on it. Alex (talk) 14:05, 13 November 2013 (UTC)

Trout

It's the first time I've been trouted by anyone. Could you elaborate so that I might learn something? I'm not sure what I should have learned yet. Thanks. Biosthmors (talk) pls notify me (i.e. {{U}}) while signing a reply, thx 09:34, 14 November 2013 (UTC)

Armando Rodriguez

You could also delete Armando Rodriguez since Armando Rodríguez was deleted.--Yankees10 06:46, 15 November 2013 (UTC)

I've been working on Wikipedia:Contributor copyright investigations/Virago250 today, and have it down to ~15. I'm starting to get to the point where I'm unsure of what to do with the rest though... Any help would be appreciated; it would be nice to get another one cleared and off the books. Has there been any chatter on another drive for one of the big cleanups? The one for DD seemed to work well... Dana boomer (talk) 01:16, 16 November 2013 (UTC)

CCI update

Progress! --Moonriddengirl (talk) 01:38, 17 November 2013 (UTC)

For achieving the impossible

The Herculean Achievement Award
Your tireless toiling is largely responsible for catching up the multiyear backlog at WP:CP. It doesn't even bear thinking what WP:CCI would look like without you. Everywhere there is copyright cleanup, there is you. There are not words to express how much I appreciate what you do. Moonriddengirl (talk) 16:07, 16 November 2013 (UTC)
(I wanted something less depressing than Sisyphus to fall back on and moved to Hercules. When I found the globe image, it sealed the deal. :) You rock. Totally. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 16:08, 16 November 2013 (UTC))
Seconded. MER-C 12:24, 17 November 2013 (UTC)

Just a note re List of hat types

Just an observation, List of hat types was not copyright infringement (the reasoning behind its deletion) as it was a content split from Hat (a couple of people HATED this, though, and reverted it though, despite it seeming logical to me) - the text in that article had been lifted by the site you cited as infringement. Not really a biggie, just a note that it wasn't actually copyright infringement, unless the section in Hat is also copyright infringement and needs removing forthwith (which would nark off the anti-split people). I tried opening a discussion about the proposed split, but nobody seems to have been interested in discussing it, and now the other page is deleted which doesn't really help show what the intentions of the split were. If you're copying content from another article, please link to the original revision in the edit summary and {{copied}} on the talk page per Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. This provides the attribution in WP:CC-BY-SA and will avoid future problems like this. MER-C 10:44, 17 November 2013 (UTC)
It wasn't me that copied/split the article over, but that's useful to know. Mabalu (talk) 19:01, 17 November 2013 (UTC)

My ACE 2013 Guide

For talk page stalkers: I had no time, nor much of a desire this year, to do an arbitration guide. There were enough this year that I think anyone who had read them and weighed the author of the guides accordingly understands the candidates well. However, I will provide three endorsements of who I think would be great arbitrators. Note that this doesn't mean I'm only supporting three necessarily, but I am definitely supporting fewer than eight this year, unfortunately.

  • User:28bytes - I know this user primarily as a bureaucrat, and in that role he has always made sensible decisions, and even if I didn't agree entirely with an opinion, his explanations always made complete sense and were well-written. More importantly, his answers to the questions demonstrated a huge amount of clue, and while I knew I was going to support him the second I saw the name, the answers made me feel more comfortable with that. Seeing him run at the last second, quite frankly, gave me hope for this year's class.
  • User:GorillaWarfare - Much like 28bytes, GW has a tremendous amount of clue. She is someone who I am confident can cut through the crap and made decisions as they should be made, rather than worrying about ramifications. That's what separates average arbs from good or great arbs. Plus, someone who has ambassador experience would be a huge asset to the committee, especially since ArbCom tends to be seen this time of year as ot of touch with the community (not a position I necessarily agree with, but one I can entirely understand why people would hold.)
  • User:Seraphimblade - For arbcom to properly work, there needs to be a good balance of users who lean towards second chances and those who lean towards law and order (lenient v. harsh). The law and order side seems to have been lacking a bit, and since I was probably further in that camp that almost any arb, i naturally want to see a couple of those elected. Blade fits that bill, but that's not my reason for supporting; my reason is because of his arbitration enforcement experience. That's a VERY tough field to navigate, since if you're slightly off you get attack, just like being an arb. I've looked at blade's past comments and haven't had any issues, and he seems to understand what ArbCom needs to do moving forward.

As long as those three are in and any "absolutely nots" are not elected, 2014's committee should be fine. Wizardman 23:48, 24 November 2013 (UTC)
