WAMU[edit]

Thanks for your contributions, but please do not delete or redirect WAMU without ample discussion. Your edit was well intentioned since WAMU is Washington Mutual's NYSE code, but it's also the only name for the radio station, and therefore the only way for users to access it. By redirecting that name exclusively to Washington Mutual, users cannot access the information they want; it makes searching a database and finding information harder. In a Google search, WAMU as a radio station is displayed second, which suggests that at least by the standard of online bibliometrics, American University's radio station is reasonably well searched. Bibliometrics has been used for literally centuries among librarians when determining numerous information services, especially when determining information controls, such as categorization, classification, subject headings, and information access points. Google and other Internet databases use the same concept for ranking web pages in an Internet search because it is a far better gauge of information control than web traffic. The point here is that not everyone searching for information will use "WAMU" to mean Washington Mutual. Those users - even if they are not the most web "trafficing" people - also need to locate information. A disambiguation notation has already been made for Washington Mutual on the WAMU page. This is sufficient for finding Washington Mutual because (I repeat for emphasis) WAMU is the only name for this radio station, which is the 5th highest rated public radio station in the country; the majority of its shows are syndicated; and it hosts the highest rated shows in the Washington, DC region.
