Denny,CA

Hello! I was bombing around some articles on towns, areas, what have you, and I saw the one on Denny. If I read the history correctly, it was you that added this part: "Still has a few residential houses in the area. In the 1970's there was a mining war between civilians and the Forest Service in which two people died."

The reason I am bothering you is that I wonder if you are referring to the incident in 1977 or 1978? I was peripherally involved, knowing one of the dead men quite well. It's been decades of course, but while mining was involved, the Forest Service was not. It was quite a tale, even making the front page of the SF Chronicle (a copy of which I used to have, but have misplaced). July 31

Hi again. I don't think I can add anything to the article, because it would be classified as "original research" or something. I have no sources. I do think the article that appeared in the SF Chronicle (in 1977 or was it 1978?) was called "The Day Eden Died", or something very similar. This all happened before the intertubes and so the information is very sketchy for "reliable sources".

There was indeed an armed confrontation between the feds and a gold miner, but that was years before the events that led to the shootout at Denny. It would also be very strange for me to write about it, because it is kind of personal. I think about one of the victims fairly often, to this day...it would be weird to write about him. Plus BLP may play a part in writing about it, especially without sources.

But in a nutshell, an argument started between two gold miners ( or would be gold miners...), one was killed by the other. Later in the day, two young men related either by blood or marriage went after the murderer and in the ensuing shootout , one was injured and the other mortally wounded. The murderer was also shot a number of times, but escaped and was captured alive. It did take several hours for law enforcement and medical aid to get up to Denny, as you know, it's pretty isolated and helicopters weren't available then, (I guess). I wish I could locate that SF Chronicle article. It's either lost or tucked into something that I can't find...it's been 35 years after all.  :(

List of USN ships

Hi, thanks for your edits to List of current ships of the United States Navy. Unfortunately, I had to revert one. The ship you noted as decommissioned is still listed as commissioned on the naval register. You will note that I had to revert another editor on the ship's own article as well for the same reason. I don't doubt that a decomm ceremony took place, but without a reliable source, it is considered as original research, and has to be removed.

Another issue is that when ships are added or removed from the list, could you please update the totals on the page? I appreciate your help keeping the page up to date. Thanks! - thewolfchild 19:13, 11 November 2013 (UTC)
