Li Guangdi pdf

Hi, I read your request at Wikipedia:WikiProject Resource Exchange/Resource Request#Need access to a Springer article on a small mobile screen, and didn't notice that someone else had already offered to send you the article. Your request hasn't been marked sent/received/resolved. If you still need it I can send you a pdf of:

Please use Special:EmailUser to email me so that I can reply with the pdf as an attachment. Regards, Worldbruce (talk) 03:01, 23 August 2015 (UTC)

@Worldbruce: Email sent, many thanks for the offer of assistance! Yunshui  07:35, 2 September 2015 (UTC)

CVUA question

Hey Yunshui! I see that you've recently been looking at my CVUA page and answering things. I have a question: For the examples of vandalism/good faith that are a yellow tick/cross, should I provide another example to get a tick? Also, should I also re-answer if I were to get a yellow tick instead of a regular tick?

I see that you unfortunately had to deny a person's request to be mentored in the CVUA, but you are still regularly checking my CVUA page. Thank you. MrWooHoo (talk) 03:12, 23 August 2015 (UTC)

@MrWooHoo: Yeah, I'm still trying to keep up with the folk I've already agreed to work with, even though I'm not taking on anyone new at the moment. You're currently running at (off the top of my head) about 68% with a couple of questions unanswered, so if you answer those ones, you should pass the 70% threshold with ease. However, if you want to have another crack at some of the yellow-tick answers (at least those where I haven't already given the answer) then feel free. Yunshui  07:35, 2 September 2015 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Today's featured article/requests/Hu Zhengyan --Gerda Arendt (talk) 17:00, 24 August 2015 (UTC)

@Gerda Arendt: Another one? Gerda, you shouldn't have! My only thought would be that it might be a good idea to include one of the paintings, rather than the seal, as the image, but I don't know much about the TFA process so I'm not sure whether that would be appropriate or not. Meat-based sauce

Hi, Yunshui! I wanted to ask about the deletion of this page. Your reason was that it was deleted because there was an existing topic: Meat-based_sauce?redirect=no

But that existing topic, List_of_sauces#Meat-based_sauces is just a small subsection of a list, not an article. So I thought I'd ask you about it -- can you maybe undelete and userify the article for me so I can work on it? I actually think it could be an actual article rather than a subsection of a list. valereee (talk) 12:49, 24 August 2015 (UTC)

@Valeree: I'm a bit confused here - you yourself requested that the page be deleted as a duplicate of the existing list, so I'd assumed you realised that there was no point to a page devoted to listing meat-based sauces. I can userfy it for you (I'll put it at User:Valeree/Meat-based sauces shortly), but I have my doubts that it would ever be a valid standalone article. Yunshui  07:35, 2 September 2015 (UTC)
Yunshui, thanks -- I'm considering working it into an article (rather than a list) and I just didn't want to have to recreate whatever work I'd done. (Couldn't remember exactly how much I'd done, I see now that it wasn't really much!) But all the same I appreciate having it to refer to, and thank you for your time! valereee (talk) 16:22, 2 September 2015 (UTC)

Hi again,

On August 10 I asked for your help to move this page that was up for deletion at AfD to its official name. I tried to argue that it is not fair to delete an article that is not created under its official name , but unfortunately you did not buy my argument.

I remember speculating that the article was created by an inexperienced editor, and it looks like I was right. Here is the evidence which I happened to bump into. I thought you may be interested.

Cheers, Ottawahitech (talk) 02:30, 8 September 2015 (UTC)

Relief_India_Trust_SMS_Correspondence.jpg Deletion

May i know the reason why this image is taken down, this is in the talk page of the article Relief_India_Trust which is a advert like article with multiple issues, and this is a upload to the discussion page where the page issue supposed to be discussed.DChinu (talk) 06:06, 9 September 2015 (UTC)

@DChinu: The image contained a telephone number which has since been reassigned to a private individual, who was receiving abusive calls as a result. You're welcome to restore the image with the telephone number edited out, if you wish. Yunshui  07:11, 9 September 2015 (UTC)
New version seems perfectly fine from a privacy standpoint. Not sure where we stand on the reproduction of text (arguably a copyright violation) but I'll let others worry about that. Yunshui  07:51, 14 September 2015 (UTC)

This is a message from the Wikimedia Foundation. Translations are available.

As you may know, the Wikimedia Foundation Board of Trustees approved a new "Access to nonpublic information policy" on 25 April 2014 after a community consultation. The former policy has remained in place until the new policy could be implemented. That implementation work is now being done, and we are beginning the transition to the new policy.

An important part of that transition is helping volunteers like you sign the required confidentiality agreement. All Wikimedia volunteers with access to nonpublic information are required to sign this new agreement, and we have prepared some documentation to help you do so.

The Wikimedia Foundation is requiring that anyone with access to nonpublic information sign the new confidentiality agreement by 15 December 2015 (OTRS users have until 22 December 2015) to retain their access. You are receiving this email because you have access to nonpublic information and are required to sign the confidentiality agreement under the new policy.

Signing the confidentiality agreement for nonpublic information is conducted and tracked using Legalpad on Phabricator. The general confidentiality agreement is now ready, and the OTRS agreement will be ready after 22 September 2015. We have prepared a guide on Meta-Wiki to help you create your Phabricator account and sign the new agreement: Confidentiality agreement for nonpublic information/How to sign

If you have any questions or experience any problems while signing the new agreement, please visit this talk page or email me (gvarnum@wikimedia.org). Again, please sign this confidentiality agreement by 15 December 2015 (OTRS users have until 22 December 2015) to retain your access to nonpublic information. If you do not wish to retain this access, please let me know and we will forward your request to the appropriate individuals.

Thank you,

User:Cali11298 again, and connecting IPs to registered accounts

Hey, Yunshui. Since you didn't get around to answering me at the article talk page, I'm asking you here at yours: Should I start a WP:Sockpuppet investigation for this matter? I know that the WP:CheckUser policy states that WP:CheckUsers usually will not publicly tie IPs to registered accounts, but it also states, "but in some cases it is hard to avoid doing so. This policy encourages English Wikipedia CheckUsers not to allow such connections to be made from their results, but the global privacy policy allows them to do so in the case of serious disruption, and this policy allows CheckUsers to prioritise compliance with Wikipedia policy over the personal privacy of a user who has abusively edited the encyclopedia. In some situations, while CheckUsers can endeavour to avoid explicitly connecting an account to an IP address, they will find it difficult or impossible not to do so. For instance, when a user edits disruptively using multiple IPs, or a mixture of IPs and accounts, the CheckUser will find it difficult to block the accounts and then the IP addresses without obvious inference being drawn by onlookers from the series of blocks being made in a short period of time."

I see Cali11298 as one such case, given that he is a long-term abuser and is continuing that abuse. He uses dynamic IP ranges, which, according to the WP:CheckUser policy, means, "In the case of larger IP ranges, this discouragement is not made to so great a degree, because larger ranges mean a less specific connection can be drawn." So given that Cali11298 uses the 172.56 and 208.54 IP ranges, for example, why, in cases of disruption and/or where it's very likely that WP:Sockpuppetry is taking place, shouldn't a WP:CheckUser run a check on IPs connected to these IP ranges to see if registered accounts are tied to them when they are reported in a WP:Sockpuppet investigation or directly to a WP:CheckUser? And what if the IP is already blocked as a sock? 208.54.83.171 (talk · contribs) was blocked by NeilN as a Cali11298 sock, and I thank him for that. Flyer22 (talk) 20:57, 14 September 2015 (UTC)

Update: Never mind. I got my answer from a WP:CheckUser via email. He said he would run the check if I pressed further with this in an official WP:Sockpuppet investigation by making it clear which IPs are Cali11298's and pointing to the aforementioned text from the WP:CheckUser policy about publicly connecting IPs to registered accounts. That stated, I am going to hold off on this for now. Cali11298 is watching me, and I am watching him. I will report his registered account(s), either when I feel that I have enough evidence to do so or when I feel that it's the best time to pull the rug out from under him. Since I always instantly recognize him (even when he changes his editing styles), it's usually up to me to report him anyway. Flyer22 (talk) 01:49, 17 September 2015 (UTC)

I'd agree with that. Always nice to have your own personal sockpuppet army to play with... Sorry for not responding sooner; real life is kicking me in the nuts at the moment so I haven't as much wiki-time as I would like. Yunshui  10:46, 17 September 2015 (UTC)

User:weezer17 regarding deleted pages

Hi Yunshui, I had 3 pages that you deleted. I am updating the discography for a band, and they have a cd of a medley of songs. I created the main page, and then when you click on the name of the track, it shows you the songs in the Medley. Can these remain as the seperate pages or do I need to just put them on the main page. I feel like having them on the main page will be messy. Thank you. The pages in question: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Pop_Medley&action=edit&redlink=1 https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Pop_Medley_2&action=edit&redlink=1 https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Rock_Medley&action=edit&redlink=1 — Preceding unsigned comment added by Weezer17 (talkcontribs) 15:04, 17 September 2015 (UTC)

Weezer17 has created large number of articles related to some non-notable band 7th Heaven . I have tagged some for deletion. can you stop him temporarily or permanenetly. All his articles show he has a clear COI with 7th Heaven band. He craeted the band page and now he is using Wikipedia for advertisement. Please delete all his pages, thanks. All unsourced or filled with unreliable source. --Action Hero Shoot! 15:10, 17 September 2015 (UTC)
Hello, I am not the creator of the 7th Heaven page. The page has been around for quite some time. All I did was clean up the discography, and updated the track listing of CDs. If this page is deleted, then why not delete every other bands page?Weezer17 (talk) 15:29, 17 September 2015 (UTC)
The A7 tag on 7th Heaven (band)has (sensibly) been removed by another admin; pro tip, Action Hero: if a page has already survived an AFD discussion, it's very unlikely to be a candidate for speedy deletion. 7th Heaven are a notable band under the appropriate criteria, and we ought to have an article about them. The Medley pages are a different matter; they were, quite literally, just lists of songs by other artists, offering no indication as to why the 7th Heaven recordings of these songs were notable. Indeed, prior to your message above there was no indication that these were recordings by 7th Heaven at all. I would strongly dispute the encyclopedic value of these track-listing-only articles; Wikipedia isn't a directory, a fansite or a exhaustive database. Yunshui  08:01, 18 September 2015 (UTC)

User Truecomrade

I noticed that you just blocked Truecomrade. The Mi.go.sryn or whatever crap tht they post is a painful thing, you can go thru the revdeleted history of my userpage/talk page. They keep popping up every two weeks. Perhaps we can set up an edit filter/edit summary filter? I was planning to take it up to WP:LTA but didn't know what to do. --Rsrikanth05 (talk) 10:36, 18 September 2015 (UTC)

I've considered an edit filter in the past, but pff - what's the point? He's easy to recognise and takes about three seconds to block and tag; setting up a filter is probably more trouble than it's worth. Yunshui  10:49, 18 September 2015 (UTC)
The fact that last two times, it was a massive sock farm of 3-5 users, one after the other, attacking 25-30pages+users at a time. --Rsrikanth05 (talk) 11:43, 18 September 2015 (UTC)
"Massive" sockfarms are of Orangemoody proportions - this guy barely cuts the mustard. However, if you're concerned about it, I'd recommend asking for a filter to be created; something that looks for the string "migosyrn" or variants thereof (e.g. "m.i.g.o.s.y.r.n.") from new users, or that flags references to his beloved "clan" might serve. Yunshui  12:06, 18 September 2015 (UTC)
Alright then. I'll have a look. --Rsrikanth05 (talk) 12:21, 18 September 2015 (UTC)

Hi Yunshui, I don't know if you saw this one at TFAR ... it's been scheduled, and I'll get to work on it within an hour or two. - Dank (push to talk) 00:22, 21 September 2015 (UTC) ... Re: "never held anything more than minor political office": I went with "held only minor political offices", but please revert if that's wrong. - Dank (push to talk) 00:52, 21 September 2015 (UTC)

@Dank: Awesome; thank you! No issues with the wording, but (based on some of the comments made when it went throug FA) it might be an idea to consider using a different picture - Chinese seals are (I'm told) not the most engaging of images, and the article contains a number of other images that are more striking. However, I'm not sure what the rules are on TFA pictures; if it's something that needs to identify the subject of the article, the seal is probably the most appropriate option. Yunshui  06:53, 21 September 2015 (UTC)
Thanks kindly. Pinging Chris (and should I ping David Levy as well?) - Dank (push to talk) 12:42, 21 September 2015 (UTC)
  • I chose the seal because it shows up really well at 100px. If one of his works is desired, feel free to change the image. — Chris Woodrich (talk) 13:18, 21 September 2015 (UTC)
Good point; I hadn't considered the sizing - most of the pictures are quite detailed, and will look a bit messy at 100px. Perhaps the seal is the best image after all. Yunshui  13:21, 21 September 2015 (UTC)

Carmine de Laurentiis

I have rewritten the article Carmine de Laurentiis without using any material from the site which got the article in trouble last time. Am letting you know, so you can nix it if you disagree. If you think there are copyright violations here please let me know.Jacqke (talk) 19:02, 21 September 2015 (UTC)

Ran it through the copyvio detector - there's a 94% match to [2], but since that seems to be you discussing the article's new content on a forum I don't see that there's a copyright issue. Otherwise I see no problems with the text copyvio-wise. However, the article seems to be about the history of the mandolin rather than about de Laurentiis; as far as I can see everything after the lead section would be more at home in the Mandolin article. It might be a good idea to flesh out his biography if you can, or trim the page back to a stub; an article about a composer shold be about the composer, not about his instrument. Deleted external link

Hi! I think the external link I added to Acta Scientiarum Mathematicarum’s page is not inappropriate. It refers to the digitized version of the journal. In Hungary, the University Library of Szeged digitized this journal. It is open access for everyone, they don’t want any payment. It is non profit organization. I added the link because I think people would like to use it to read the journal. I don't have any commercial advertising or promotion purposes. I just simply want that the information reaches as many people as possible. Sorry if it looks like I have bad intentions, I didn’t mean it. Please let me add the link again. Thank you for your understanding.--Milgand (talk) 07:23, 26 September 2015 (UTC)

A full list of issues and articles is available from the official website, which is linked to in the article. There is therefore no need for additional links with this information. I am also concerned about the potential copyright issues, since the journal's official website requires payment to view most articles, which would not be the case if they were indeed free-to-view. Please do not add this link to Wikipedia again. I appreciate that you are trying make a good-faith effort to improve the encyclopedia, but this link violates several points of our external links guidelines. Yunshui  07:28, 28 September 2015 (UTC)

Sock blocks

Hi, you'd blocked Bhaaloosna etc as socks of KingMandhata74. By the Koli obsession I think they might be related to Premkoli99 socks I'd duck blocked -- Category:Suspected Wikipedia sockpuppets of Premkoli99. I thought it was a straightforward case of just serial socking, didn't realize it would be parallel socks so never bothered creating an SPI. On looking now I see that there was an SPI created at Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Premkoli99. cheers. —SpacemanSpiff 13:41, 29 September 2015 (UTC)

It's certainly possible, but this group seem to have a very distinct modus operandi, and I can't see a technical connection yet. Yunshui  13:44, 29 September 2015 (UTC)
Actually, the CU data seems to indicate that the two groups aren't related. Might be best to keep them as separate sockfarms for the time being. Yunshui  13:46, 29 September 2015 (UTC)
Please delete the articles they have created per G5. Thanks! Jim Carter 13:46, 29 September 2015 (UTC)
@Jim Carter: Since none of the accounts were blocked when the articles were created, they are not eligible for deletion under G5. Any articles that new socks create in the future will be, but the existing pages will have to be dealt with via AFD. Yunshui  13:49, 29 September 2015 (UTC)
(edit conflict)Thanks for the clarification. It appeared that there were two different geolocates from some IP activity that was tracked, so it could very well be some off-wiki discussion forum activity that's causing this. cheers. —SpacemanSpiff 13:48, 29 September 2015 (UTC)

Apologies

To yourself if I came across as too harsh to you personally, but its been literally years having to explain the problems with RAN's use of non-free content. The basic problem is not if using quotes is considered a copyvio (in most cases its not, if used correctly), its that RAN's extensive use of them (and other non-free content) is certainly a violation of wikipedia's policies. Personally I just want to MFD his entire userspace because that would at least *solve the problem*. Nobody wants to wade through his userspace to check, no one wants to delete it all, and in the meantime RAN gets harsher and harsher restrictions which dont fix anything. Only in death does duty end (talk) 09:14, 5 October 2015 (UTC)

I can't say that I completely agree (I can't say that I disagree either; at the moment, I'm pretty much agnostic on the subject). It's certainly possible to read the policies as supporting your position, but I don't think (having just re-read them today) that they do so explicitly. However, I do note that there are other copyvio issues (beyond the quote-related ones) in RAN's history, and I'm buying into the argument that the continued creation of drafts which may or may not be suitable (i.e. which require extensive checking by others) isn't doing Wikipedia any favours. Not the strongest support I've ever given for a motion, but I think at the moment I fall on that side of the fence.
Thank you for your post, by the way; no harshness perceived (worse has been said of me in the past, and will be again, no doubt). It prompted be to go back and review the case some more, and in doing so change my mind. Yunshui  09:20, 5 October 2015 (UTC)

Creating a Page

Hello! I'm new to Wikipedia and have a few questions. I would really appreciate your assistance.

My class was recently given a project to create a Wiki page about our assigned topics. I was assigned to write about the newborn cub shown at the end of Disney's "The Lion King." The character is referenced on "The Lion King" Wiki page: "Rafiki presents Simba and Nala's newborn cub to the inhabitants of the Pride Lands."

I was wondering if this is an acceptable topic? I plan to discuss the backstory of the cub, providing information about the character's active role in the storyline and creation in the filmmaking process. Of course, I would also be citing official sources throughout the page.

I just want to make sure I don't start my project and have the Wiki page deleted, especially since I'm not familiar with writing for the website just yet.

Thank you in advance!

You've got mail

Sorry to email you out of the blue. I decided last minute not to post it here. You can forward it to the other arbs, John Carter, Cuchullain or anyone else if you see fit. Cheers! Hijiri 88 (やや) 08:56, 20 October 2015 (UTC)

Oh shit. Just noticed your wikibreak notice on your talk page. Forget my email. It can be dealt with later. Real life always takes precedence. Hijiri 88 (やや) 12:47, 20 October 2015 (UTC)

A combination of real-life events have put me out of Wikipedia-action for several weeks now. I don't see my activity going back up any time soon, and in any case, this time off has made me realise that, frankly, I just find this place depressing at the moment. Probably just burnout from being exposed to ArbCom and its attendant dramas over the last year, but whatever the reason, right now Wikipedia isn't something I feel very motivated by. I'm therefore hanging up my Edit tab and bowing out. Maybe six months down the line I'll start to remember the good times a bit more and re-appear; that doesn't seem likely right now, however.

Thanks to all the wonderful folk I've encountered and collaborated with over the years; despite my current attitude, it has most definitely been fun. I shall always be proud to have been a part of this project, and to have met and worked with you all. May your names never be mentioned at ANI, and may all of your articles become Featured!

I hereby resign my role with ArbCom; conveniently there's an election coming up so my seat won't be vacant for too long.

Happy editing.

Thank you

for a special barnstar and being someone on arbcom whom I trusted, ("Yunshui matches my own evaluation best: 'The edit was unproblematic and actually made Wikipedia better'."). Editing is much less happy without you, but do what's best for you. Which of you articles would you like to have translated to German? The peace bell? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:38, 7 November 2015 (UTC)

Thank you for service. NE Ent 22:55, 7 November 2015 (UTC)

I dedicated an article to you and your dedication,- hope you like it. The translation of the peace bell is in progress. Looking at the award from you brings the smile to my lips ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 08:06, 9 December 2015 (UTC)

Almost New Year (UTC)

Happy New Year!
Hello Yunshui:

Did you know ... that back in 1885, Wikipedia editors wrote Good Articles with axes, hammers and chisels?

Thank you for your contributions to this encyclopedia using 21st century technology. I hope you don't get any unneccessary blisters.

I can't believe it!

Yunshui's Wiki-addicted? Judge for yourself... Someone who wrote all this would retire from Wikipedia. I hope you have good memories to cherish. Goodbye! I will always remember you.

You are invited to join the discussion at commons:Commons:Deletion_requests/File:Patience-Agbabi.jpg. I know you're mostly retired, but just in case -- I opened a DR on commons about this file, which you've previously removed from the article for the same reason I nominated it. :) Thanks.  · Salvidrim! ·  06:09, 14 January 2016 (UTC)
