Wikipedia:Main Page/Errors

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

To report an error in content currently or imminently on the Main Page, use the appropriate section below.

  • Where is the error? An exact quotation of the text in question helps.
  • Offer a correction if possible.
  • References are helpful, especially when reporting an obscure factual or grammatical error.
  • Time zones. The Main Page runs on Coordinated Universal Time (UTC, currently 16:46 on 11 May 2024) and is not adjusted to your local time zone.
  • Can you resolve the problem yourself? If the error lies primarily in the content of an article linked from the Main Page, fix the problem there before reporting it here. Text on the Main Page generally defers to the articles with bolded links. Upcoming content on the Main Page is usually only protected from editing beginning 24 hours before its scheduled appearance. Before that period, you can be bold and fix any issues yourself.
  • Do not use {{edit fully-protected}} on this page, which will not get a faster response. It is unnecessary, because this page is not protected, and causes display problems, because this is not a talk page. (See the bottom of this revision for an example.)
  • No chit-chat. Lengthy discussions should be moved to a suitable location elsewhere, such as the talk page of the relevant article or project.
  • Respect other editors. Another user wrote the text you want changed, or reported an issue they see in something you wrote. Everyone's goal should be producing the best Main Page possible. The compressed time frame of the Main Page means sometimes action must be taken before there has been time for everyone to comment. Be civil to fellow users.
  • Reports are removed when resolved. Once an error has been addressed, determined not to be an error, or the item has rotated off the Main Page, the report will be removed from this page. Check the revision history for a record of any discussion or action taken; no archives are kept.

Errors with "In the news"[edit]

  • Solar storms article: not good enough quality for the main page, too many citations needed and the fact used in the blurb about unusual southerly and northerly doesn't seem to be verified either.  — Amakuru (talk) 10:51, 11 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Tagging on to mention that the image should really be changed - Bell Hill, Dorset is certainly subpar, any other location would be better.  Frzzl  talk; contribs  15:35, 11 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Assuming you're referring to the article at Bell Hill, Dorset, I don't see much wrong with that - at least it's fully referenced, unlike the main bolded article here, which seems to be getting worse rather than better - now a fully unreferenced section. And subsidiary links aren't held to the same quality concerns as bold links anyway. Disappointing that no action has been taken on this more than five hours later, I would just pull it myself but would probably be deemed WP:INVOLVED by now. Cheers  — Amakuru (talk) 15:44, 11 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Withdrawing complaint now, as the article is finally OK. But the improvement should have happened before posting, not way later.  — Amakuru (talk) 16:37, 11 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Current DYK[edit]

Next DYK[edit]

I would recommend rewording to "...it initially did not use capital letters..." "Initially" appears in the corresponding text in the article, and without that qualifier, it's a bit weird to read this and then click the article and see a Latin-script example with capital letters all over. -Elmer Clark (talk) 15:29, 11 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Done. Good shout. I was also a little confused by this at first when I was checking the hook, until I saw the "initially" in the article prose. But it's definitely good to include it in the hook too.  — Amakuru (talk) 16:38, 11 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Today's POTD[edit]

Tomorrow's POTD[edit]

And maybe link "pronotum" to Prothorax and "scutellum" to Scutellum (insect anatomy)? JennyOz (talk) 04:46, 11 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Also... maybe explain these images are of nymphs. The adults look very different, especially in relation to colours described in blurb. Could add sentence at bottom something like: 'These images show top and bottom views of C. purpureipennis nymphs.'? JennyOz (talk) 04:46, 11 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Done. Thanks for the report... I think normally someone casts eyes on and copyedits my submissions to POTD before they go live, but that hasn't happened with this one and I didn't give this one a full check. I'll try to do better next time :)  — Amakuru (talk) 16:46, 11 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
