Request: Please replace these vector logos with the official ones. They were (shabbily :P) created by me, since I didn't look for the official ones. Thanks. Sn1pe! (talk) 01:32, 6 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Graphist opinion(s):

I could only find the iBall official logo. I uploaded it to Commons since it's a very simple logo and ineligible for copyright. The Videocon logo looks like it was made in Photoshop and I doubt there was ever a vector version of it. I've always been of the opinion that if I can't find the official vector version of the logo, then I wouldn't create one myself, since it will be superseded by the official anyway. Sorry about this, I am currently in the middle of exam week and have less time than I would have liked. Many of these are of very low resolution - certainly not enough for me to pick out what is supposed to be what. This is borderline undoable. Jon C (talk) 08:56, 26 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed - sadly, there just isn't enough detail in the originals to redraw these - there are lots of intricate details in the images, but the details of the intricacy are indescernible at this resolution. I did some searching, and I can find nothing which exactly matches these for format. There are a few "12 tribes" images I could find, but not set in the Star of David like these, and not with quite the same graphic content, so it's really difficult even to know where one could "start" from - sorry. Request: Renders correctly as a PNG, but has a strange black box overlayed on it. Made in Inkscape, where it looks fine. Anyone know a fix? Thanks, ResMar 17:41, 9 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Graphist opinion(s):

Done This is a common problem with our SVG renderer. It's usually caused by flowed text so make sure you don't use it in your files. You seem to have accidentally drawn a flow region and that caused the problem, even though you didn't type any text inside. To fix this, either open the file in Inkscape and delete/convert to normal unflowed text, or open the file in Notepad, search for "flowroot" and delete everything between the two tags (as long as they don't contain any text, of course). I've already applied the latter fix to your file. Cheers! -- Orionisttalk 20:50, 9 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I was aware of the flowed text problem, but my oh my! You can cause this with an empty text field? AS for the txt fix, I certainly know now. Thanks, ResMar 04:35, 10 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I totally agree with Jon that this shouldn't be redrawn. I'd even say that any seal or logo shouldn't be redrawn, and only official vector versions be used. Korean War Ranger patches

Resolved
 – Jon C (talk)

Article(s): Korean War Ranger Companies

Request: Hello graphics artists. So, I'm working on creating articles for the US Army Ranger units that served during the Korean War and no graphic of their shoulder patches exists. The patches are basically the same as the current Ranger tabs with the exception that they are wider and say "X, AIRBORNE RANGER, CO" on the scroll instead of "X, RANGER, BN". For reference, some of the patches are shown here (the ones with the red borders). For clarity, all of the letters on the images are capitalized, none are underlined, there is no punctuation in the text of the graphics, and the ordinal letters (such as the "st" in 1st) are in superscript.

Legally, they are US Army insignia, so they are in the public domain. Their description appears in Appendix B of this RS book.

Finally, I'm looking at a total of 15 images, all of which are the same except for the number appearing on the left of the scroll. They will be 1ST, 2ND, 3RD, 4TH, 5TH, 6TH, 7TH, 8TH, 10TH, 11TH, 12TH, 13TH, 14TH, and 15TH

Thank you very much for your help. Let me know if you have any questions. —Ed!(talk) 20:59, 31 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Aluminum smelting

Resolved
 – The Haz talk
Aluminum smelting process: cryolite (a fluoride) is required to make it work.

Article(s): Fluorine

Request: Make the font 50% larger. Change aluminium to aluminum.TCO (Reviews needed) 01:47, 20 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Graphist opinion(s):  Done: Couldn't quite go 50% larger but went about 30% larger. As PNG rendering of SVG is still an iffy thing for WP, the text will be viewed differently whether the image is in an article, by itself, resized, etc. Also, I moved the image to a new file name as the old one was incorrect. "Blank" should only be used for unlabeled images. I took the liberty of updated the Fluorine article to point to the new file and reverted the old file back to the blank version so that other languages can easily access it to make their own language versions. Fluorine electron shells

Resolved
 – NikNaks talk - gallery

Article(s): Fluorine

Request: Please make a new file version (for fluorine) with the following changes:

  • label the nucleus "Nucleus (9+)"
  • label the inner cloud "Helium filled shell (2 e-, sheilding)"
  • label the outer cloud "Non-sheilding outer shell (7 e-)"
  • Get rid of the electron of interest label and the little dot that it points too).
  • Add a dashed circle at about 15% of the blue thickness further outside the blue (iow, kinda close, but discernable that there is a gap). Label the dashed circle "Neon shell"

I intend to display this centered at 350 px. Please make font readable at that scale. Also a "wide" aspect ratio helps me better than a tall one.

TCO (Reviews needed) 19:12, 20 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Graphist opinion(s): How's this? I vectorised the original while I was at it. NikNaks talk - gallery 21:52, 20 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

It looks sweet graphically, The neon shell dashed circle needs to be wider (it should be outside the furthest extent of the blue cloud.)TCO (Reviews needed) 22:04, 20 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

difluorine molecule MO diagram

Resolved

Article(s): Fluorine

Request: Please redraw to be a difluorine MO diagram, with significant simplifications.

1. Get rid of the bottom, 1s orbital stuff, (bottom one third of diagram).

2. Delete the sigma and pi symbols to the right (want this simple-simple for article I will use it in, other can add back if needed, for other uses)

3. Add a label above the left and right columns "F atom". Add a label above the central column "F2 molecule"

4. Add an extra electron to the right and left columns (pointing down) in the top, middle spot. In the center column, add two electrons pointing down in those orbitals that just have one electron now (second from the top).

5. Get rid of the confusion of the red diagonal lines hybridizing. Want it to look cleaner, more like this diagram: File:Molekülorbital-Fluor.png

6. I'm not sure what the red and blue are buying me, so make that same color please. Maybe electrons black and orbitals blue? Or all black? Donno, play with it, but want it simple and clean.

7. Don't completely squash it, but a "wide" aspect ratio is more helpful for me (to incorporate in article).

TCO (Reviews needed) 23:21, 23 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Graphist opinion(s): Just wondering... why do you want to get rid of the bond/antibond labels? The Haz talk 00:41, 24 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

It's just that this is a bit of a diversion and I won't be going into huge details of MO theory. Text will just discuss paired/unpaired and affect on magnetism. If I do another use of the image (say in an article on diatomic molecules or on MO theory in general, than I would definitely add the labels back in). But as is, the diagram is intrinically daunting, and I want to keep it "easy" for the non chemists. And I really don't want stray greek symbols that I won't be discussing anyways.TCO (Reviews needed) 00:48, 24 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

AFL Carolina Cobras logo
SVG  Done

Article(s): Carolina Cobras, Cactus High School (the blue one)

Request: These two logos are from a dead Arena Football League franchise — since then, a high school has taken it and recolored it, resulting in the second file. Both are in pitiful JPG format (and the second one will be moved by me after it's cleaned up). Either replace both with a decently traced PNG or a small SVG. The AFL still owns the logo. The Cobra Logo should have (instead of the tan) electric blue hex #01A6D3. Raymie (tc) 17:01, 22 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Graphist opinion(s): Be careful with the copyright on this one. I was recently reading how many high schools have stolen league logos as their own and are being sued for it, so I'm not so sure that the Cactus High School logo is even allowed on WP.

The second was on Commons (the horror!) It's been tagged with speedy. I still would like to see a slightly better quality copy of the original though — it's PITIFUL. Raymie (tc) 17:57, 22 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
