Postage stamps and postal history of Western Australia, Inverted Swan, and some others
Request
Could you rotate this 180° and upload under a new filename? Since the stamp is known as the "Inverted Swan", I'd like to be able to illustrate the article with an image where the swan's upside down and the frame's correct, but this image has it the other way around. Of course, since they can't both be right, neither is better than the other per se; that's why I want it to be uploaded separately. 175.39.61.121 (talk) 02:19, 29 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hey The C of E and Fry1989, i created all the flags you requested. Please review and give feedback. However, i am very unsure what the date of 1926 you give in this section title refers to. The reference image you provided ( https://i.redd.it/nhp2vcwbmmw91.jpg your text: "located here from 1926" ) can not be from 1926, as the caption includes the following: "an amicable compromise was reached in 1927". Please check with people knowledgeable in the early 20th century History of South Africa. If you have no further request, this is  Done. Cheers! --Lommes (talk) 18:17, 12 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Lommes Apologies, I meant List of South African flags#Proposed flags. thorpewilliam (talk) 02:58, 14 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Escalation
I am very sorry to escalate this now, but after making so many flags, i decided to read List_of_South_African_flags where i saw other proposals, and this then lead me to CRWFlags where there are more proposed flags (not yet on Wikipedia), and then a big rabbit hole opened, and the rabbit hole ended (well,a t least i hope it ends here) on page 154/155 of the 1990 edition of "The World of Flags" by William Crampton (see here: imgur ). This is a lot. --Lommes (talk) 12:04, 13 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
So I now made the "Walker Flag" and two more of the 1927 Flag Committee designs. Please, can someone review my work? Thanks. --Lommes (talk) 12:45, 13 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Made the 1927 flag proposed by the South African Party. --Lommes (talk) 12:59, 13 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I also made the 1965 flag, as described in List_of_South_African_flags#National_flag_(1928–1994). I think I will stop for now. Cheers! --Lommes (talk) 14:04, 13 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I made a couple more. Okay, it's not a couple, I made 11 more. I know this is more than any of you bargained for, but please, The C of E, Fry1989, thorpewilliam, can you check my work against the references (that is CRWFlags and the Crampton book on imgur? Thanks a lot! Cheers! --Lommes (talk) 13:09, 14 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Very well done @Lommes:, no need to apologise for going overboard! From what I can see, the only observation I have is for the 1927 SAP proposed flag is that the Union Jack seems to be upside-down (at least according to the Crampton source). (scratch that: looked again) It does amaze me that they actually considered something that looks like a swastika behind a British flag for one of the colonies. The C of E God Save the King! (talk) 15:22, 14 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I made a last one, perhaps the most "anti-Swastika" version of these flags. Unless someone finds a higher resolution image of the Crampton book, I think that is all i can make without just inventing stuff (which isn't what Wikipedia is for). Thanks, C of E! --Lommes (talk) 15:49, 14 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Lommes: I have found a copy of the 1990 book here. I know there is a 1994 version of that book but I don't know if that would have the same information (I suspect it would not and would be focussing on the new flag that came in in that year). The C of E God Save the King! (talk) 08:30, 15 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hey, The C of E. Well, would you want to buy the book just so we can add the most obscure of the proposed flags? If so, be my guest, but me personally, I am not invested enough in the topic. (If you have an Internet Archive account, you can "borrow" the book there, but the image resolution seems basically identical to the imgur picture. I can't see any more details.) Furthermore, if you look at the imgur picture you can already see the grain of the printing pattern, so there is a danger that even with the physical book in hand, there isn't much more detail on the printed page in the first place. Looking at the fine detail in some of the flags (which just looks like smushes on imgur) I think we need at least twice the resolution to discern what that detail really is, and I doubt the printed page has this fine a print resolution. Again, I don't want to dissuade you from going forward, just a warning: The physical book might not actually be much better than the image we have. --Lommes (talk) 11:56, 15 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Flag of the US 11th Airborne Division

Article(s)
11th Airborne Division
Request
Hi, I was wondering if anyone can create the flag of the recently reactivated American 11th Airborne Division. Right now the 11th Airborne is the only active US Army division without a flag on Wikipedia, and it seems that the author of all the other flags has become inactive. I've had no luck looking for this file online or in any of the US Army's official websites. The flag should be 3 feet tall and 4 feet wide, the emblem should be 15 inches tall. Thank you! Meeepmep (talk) 01:24, 13 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
For anyone using sensible measurements, this is 914mm x 1219mm, with an 381mm emblem. Lommes (talk) 14:12, 13 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

There's a patch present at File:11th Airborne Division.patch.svg but the font appears to be incorrect. Also does the emblem height include or exclude the detached text at the top? HapHaxion (talk / contribs) 20:02, 14 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

SVG maps of oceans

Request
I want to create SVG maps of the oceans just like in the Southern Ocean, but I have lots of trouble trying to figure out how could they make these globes in the first place. Can somebody here help me on this? -- CactiStaccingCrane (talk) 14:07, 14 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hey, CactiStaccingCrane, I guess you are looking for SVG locator maps of continents? The Southern Ocean map you provided () is a modification of File:Location_Antarctica.svg(), which is one of these SVG locator maps. If I misunderstood you or you have further questions, feel free to ping me with {{u|Lommes}}. Cheers! --Lommes (talk) 14:41, 14 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Lommes Yeah, that's exactly what I've been looking for. However, it seems that the dataset and software is currently offline and there is very little if none instructions. How exactly did they make this map, and how could I make one for myself too? CactiStaccingCrane (talk) 14:44, 14 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
CactiStaccingCrane: I can not give you any information about the "Online Map Creator, et al" used to create these in the first place. I am sorry. I guess you can't modify the existing ones because all are centered on continents instead of oceans? I am sorry I couldn't help you any further... Cheers!--Lommes (talk) 15:25, 14 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Discussion
CactiStaccingCrane: I went through all our orthographic SVG maps, and these are the best-fitting for each ocean. With a little recoloring, these could be used. I don't know if you consider them good enough, but I think they are the best we have. Please also consider that the PNG files you originally posted have very unusual projections, they show more than a hemisphere, which seems counter-intuitive to me. All the SVG files here posted are orthographic, i.e. they are an approximation of how you would see the earth from space. --Lommes (talk) 13:23, 15 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I also found https://www.worldmapgenerator.com/en/ which is - in principle - capable of creating these maps from scratch (I made one of the Indian Ocean for testing purposes), but the license used is incompatible with Wikimedia Commons (they use CC-BY-NC-SA). You could, if you want, contact the creators at https://www.worldmapgenerator.com/en/licence/ if they would be willing to make an exception for Wikimedia. Or you could ask the people at Wikipedia:WikiProject_Maps, if they know more than I do (most certainly they do). --Lommes (talk) 13:27, 15 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks a lot for your help! CactiStaccingCrane (talk) 13:28, 15 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Coats of arms of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth

Article(s):

Request
Please remove the shadows under the coats of arms. I hope it's not a lot of work.
Swiãtopôłk (talk) 23:04, 13 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Swiãtopôłk: Hey, I don't think it's a lot of work. However, two (and a half) questions:
  • As far as I can see all of the arms have a circular shadow they cast on the 'ground' (see ), but some, perhaps most (see ) have a second shadow they cast on the 'back wall', a grey shape to the right of the arms. Of course, there is neither a ground nor a back wall, but I don't know how to distinguish them otherwise. Do you want just the 'ground' shadow removed or the 'back wall' shadow as well?
  • Do you want the existing files changed, or do you want new files uploaded, so there is a shadow and a non-shadow version?
  • Two of these files are not like the others: shows two arms, while has a crown. Should they be treated differently or the same as the others?
I can't promise I will do this today, but I am pretty sure I will make it some time later during the week. Unless someone else is quicker, of course. :-) cheers! --Lommes (talk) 13:37, 15 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Lommes Also remove the second shadow. Upload new versions of files. These two others should not be treated differently. Thank you for taking care of this, as for time, of course, no rush. Swiãtopôłk (talk) 19:17, 15 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Swiãtopôłk, I am sorry, but I have to retract my offer. I looked at the Coats of Arms in a bit more detail, and basically all of them (except ) are just very low quality (likely automatic) vector traces of low-quality JPGs (all of them less than 400px wide). I really wouldn't want to duplicate these before fixing their original problem, that is their being very low quality traces. I can - if desired - recreate all 26 of them, but this means actually re-drawing most of them, mostly by hand, and is thus a much bigger task, or in your original words: It is a lot of work. Again, I am willing to do it, but I can't commit to it right now. Apologies for getting your hopes up. If you are interested in me redoing all of them, please write here, I will come back to you (but can not say at this moment when that will be.) Again, I am sorry. --Lommes (talk) 16:06, 17 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

1) Making the straps on top blue instead of black?
2) Adding the second gold border around the blue field?
3) Altering the three lines so that the tops of them aren't melded together, and that the far edges of them don't overlap with the surrounding frame? Snow Lion Fenian (talk) 20:37, 15 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
