User talk problem[edit]

You can force a table of contents to appear by typing __FORCETOC__ at the top of the page. You can also hide it by typing __NOTOC__. TN X Man 13:42, 23 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

problems hitting internal links[edit]

hi sometimes when i hit an internal connection, rather then go to page itself, I get a windows dialog box askong me to save a file. problem exists in both hebrew and english wikipedia i use ie8/vista home answer by email to <blanked> would be most appreciated Rzg (talk) 15:49, 5 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It sounds like you have a box checked in your preferences that shouldn't be. Go to the "My preferences" tab at the top of the page, then click on the "Editing" tab. Make sure that "Use external editor by default" and "Use external diff by default" are unchecked. Let us know if that fixes it. TN X Man 15:55, 5 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I notice that that specific article has 2 direct links in the body text to articles on the Korean Wikipedia, and I suspect that this is causing the problem; the foreign characters are being converted into unicode, and it is confusing your browser.

These links are coded like this: [[:ko:아사달|신시]] and [[:ko:낙랑|낙랑]]

They appear like this:

신시 and 낙랑

As far as I am aware, using interwiki links in this manner is not the norm - but I'm not certain enough to remove them. I will therefore note the issue on the articles discussion page. Chzz ► 11:37, 27 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Page title[edit]

There are pages with commas in their titles such as 1,3-alpha-L-fucosidase. On Wikipedia, an underscore is considered equivalent to a space in a page title so, for example United_States is the same page as United States. Tra (Talk) 08:55, 23 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

{{wrongtitle}} can be used to display underscores in a title, for example in FILE_ID.DIZ, but it only has affect on the article page and not in categories and many other places. PrimeHunter (talk) 23:08, 23 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

How to disentangle Commissioning from Commission?[edit]

Hello

I would like to create an article in the English wikipedia for Commissioning, which may be briefly defined as "a set of engineering techniques and procedures applied in an integrated manner to an industrial plant, aiming at its succesful operation within requirements defined by the final client". I have already done this in the Portuguese wikipedia, at http://pt.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comissionamento.

There is no such an article in the English wikipedia, although there are articles for Ship Commissioning and Building Commissioning which are special subcases of Commissioning.

My problem is that there is already a redirection from Commissioning to Commission, and I don't know what would be the better solution, and how to implement it. Maybe there should be a disambiguation page, separating Commissioning as described above to other meanings related to Commission (which already have its own disambiguation page)...

Could someone help me with instructions about how to proceed, or maybe implementing the first steps, so that I can develop the particular Commissioning page?

First, I think that your idea is a good one, "Commissioning" has little to do with "Comission." Now as to how: Edit the existing "Commissioning" redirect to create your article. Place a hatnote in your new article to point to the "Commission" article. As you ar probably aware, you can get to the redirect article by first clicking on the Commissioning link to bring up ht e"Commission" page, which will have a "redirected from Commissioning" at teh top. click on that link to get back to the reirect page, then click onthe edit link and replace the (failry short) redire syntax with your article. After you are done, plese follow all ofhe "what links here" links in you new article to ensure that they really shuolod point at your new article. -Arch dude (talk) 20:26, 23 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Special:Categories[edit]

In Special:Categories, If I search for X in the "Display categories starting at:" box, the list will return the entry immediately after X.

Example: thbe list when I search for
Mathematics
begins with
Mathematics, sociological theories (1 member)
where the exact match is at the bottom on the previous page (Mathematics (80 members)).

Is it some sort of intended features, some sort of bug that is being worked on, or some bug that nobody has (yet) brought up?

Indian Passport cancellation[edit]

I aplied for my passport in the month f june 2007 and by mistake mentioned the Date of birth as 24-04-1986. Correct Date of birth is 26-04-1986. then i submitted my passport with the required details, i got a response that my intial signature are not matching the latest one, so need attested signature from a gazzetted officer. I am trying to submitt these forms for more than 1 year, but when ever i go there is a hughe Line and i have to come back after standing for hours and hours. I also treid to go there 4 in the morning standed in the q for long hours stil no response.

now i have decided to cancell my passport so that i can apply once again from begining.

Please suggest me the procedure how to cancell an existing passport.

New words are generally considered neologisms and are frowned upon, unless you have reliable sources to support their inclusion. Every page I edit gets watched in my watchlist[edit]

Every single edit that I make gets watched in my watchlist. I went to preferences and unchecked the "add pages I edit to my watchlist" link, but it doesn't work. Is there any other way to solve my problem? Class I Laser ^(talk) 22:22, 23 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
