How do you change an incorrect hyperlink?

[edit]

In an article (about Michio Kaku), one of the citations (to one of his coauthored books) contains an incorrect hyperlink from the correct coauthor (Daniel Axelrod). The hyperlink leads to someone with a similar name, "Daniel I. Axelrod", who was not a coauthor of that particular book. How do I remove an incorrect hyperlink? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 148.63.148.14 (talk) 03:14, 6 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Assuming they are different people, the co author not appear have an article. It would be best to remove the from around the name for now. (just did it) Creating such an article and figuring out the proper naming or navigational links might be something to look into if Axelrod is notable.Cptnono (talk) 03:22, 6 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
You could also replace Daniel Axelrod with Daniel Axelrod which will leave a redlink that might inspire someone to write an article. Deor (talk) 03:28, 6 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

There is a disbanded group called Blue Zone UK. I've been searching the Google for images, but I've only got some single covers. The single cover File:Blue Zone - On Fire single cover.jpg shows who Blue Zone is, nothing else. User:Aspects is very keen on deleting according to WP:this and WP:that. However it is vital to have an image of the disbanded group in question. Please help, Aspects is probably in good faith in preventing Wikipedia in becoming fan cruft, but not here. --Regards, Necessary Evil (talk) 03:35, 6 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, he's acting in good faith in preventing Wikipedia from violating copyright. Generally, it is unacceptable to use a copyrighted picture without permission. Wikipedia pragmatically recognizes that some copyrighted works are unreproducable, but dipicting what living people look like is NEVER an "unreproducable" use, since anyone could take a picture of, say, the band members today and upload them under the correct lisence. It matters not that the band is not together; showing a picture of what the band members look like can be done freely, so there is no imminent need to violate copyright to do so. --Jayron32 05:01, 6 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
If you think it is "vital" that Wikipedia have this image, I recommend you take a step back and read WP:What Wikipedia is not. It is usually good to have some pictures in an article, but it is never "vital" for Wikipedia that it have one. --ColinFine (talk) 10:55, 6 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

IMDB

[edit]

does wikipedia recognize IMDB as a realiable source?--intraining Jack In 04:47, 6 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

It depends on for what purpose. IMDB uses lots of user-generated content. It is minimally reviewed, but very minimally, so it isn't much different than a "Wikipedia with flagged revisions" would be for most stuff. Things like reviews of the movie, memorable quotes, "trivia" and all that stuff is almost entirely user generated, so as such is not reliable for a source for adding that info to Wikipedia. For things like film credits, release dates, ratings, and the like, basically the sort of barebones information you could have gotten from watching and referencing the movie itself; its fine. But then again, that sort of stuff you could have gotten from the movie itself. IMDB is generally acceptable as an external link at the end of an article about a film or actor or director or something, but it should not be considered as a reliable source for adding anything but the most basic information; and as such it should also not be used for establishing notability. Your best bet is to use IMDB as an uncited "starting point" and then crossreference anything you find there to another, more reliable source, and then cite THAT source with an inline citation, rather than IMDB directly. Its useful, but not directly citable. --Jayron32 04:57, 6 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Printing Problem on one particular page...

[edit]

If I attempt to print the Wikipedia article on Robert Hooke - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Hooke - it comes out curiously compressed across to the left-hand side of the page and in a very small font.

Any idea what this problem might be ?

I'm using Chrome 5.0.342.1 Dev on Mac OS X 10.5.8 thro to an Epson CX6600 - so I guess the problem may well not lie with Wikipedia !

That said, the problem doesn't seem to appear on any other Wikipedia pages.

I added it to Commons:Category:Buildings in Las Vegas. You may want to refine the category. Also, you should add Commons:Template:Location with the coordinates. That way the photo on Commons will appear on some mapping sites. --Teratornis (talk) 19:17, 6 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
