How do I make search point to an article where the name is a bit different[edit]

I'm working on an article on Vicente Ballester Aparício, whose professional name was Vicente Ballester. How do I fix things so that someone searching for either name winds up at the one destination page? Thanks. Karen Anne (talk) 02:51, 25 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Once your Vicente Ballester Aparício page is up and running, you could create a small additional "redirect" page named Vicente Ballester, that points to the real page. See Help:Redirect for the magic text that you would need to place on the redirect page to make it work. -- John of Reading (talk) 08:53, 25 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Oops.[edit]

I've messed up a page move, and need help to fix the edit history. See Mary Anne à Beckett (correct) moved from Mary Anne A'beckett. Thanks. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Pkeets (talkcontribs)

Actually, there is no way to fix the edit history. It seems as if you have moved it to the correct page. WikiCopterRadioChecklistFormerly AirplanePro 01:59, 24 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, it was a cut and paste move, and the edit history did need fixing. I've done so. Pkeets, take a look and make sure I reverted to the correct version, I'm a tad rusty. --Floquenbeam (talk) 02:56, 24 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Help renaming an image[edit]

Apologies if there's a better place to ask but I please need help renaming an image on English-language Wikipedia. Due to my own uploading carelessness, it is now Porter.jpg.jpg. The requested new name should be "Porter Wagoner, Red Gale and Don Warden.jpg". Many thanks for any help, RadioBroadcast (talk) 02:11, 24 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

This is a fine place to ask, and it's done. See File:Porter Wagoner, Red Gale and Don Warden.jpg. For future reference you can request that files be moved to better titles using the template {{rename media}}, which is placed on the image page. Cheers.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 03:00, 24 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! RadioBroadcast (talk) 03:37, 24 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

article[edit]

hi very interested in starting an informational article on wiki.please contact me. [email removed for security reasons] —Preceding unsigned comment added by 207.216.43.91 (talk) 02:33, 24 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

See Wikipedia:Your first article, note that this site is called Wikipedia, not wiki (a wiki is any website using wiki software; there are thousands of them), that we respond here to questions and not by email, and please remember to sign your posts by typing four tildes (~~~~) on discussion pages such as this (but never inside articles) which automatically formats as a signature with a time stamp when you save the page.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 02:54, 24 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

8th Regiment, Illinois Volunteers[edit]

I recently came across your page for the 8th Regiment, Illinois Volunteer Cavalry. The information displayed on that page needs to be credited to the author and the website from which it was taken. The official website of the 8th Illinois Cavalry is www.8thillinoiscavalry.com and Colonel Jesse Martinez, the former commander, is the author of the information. Please credit me and the website or I may be forced to seek legal options. Thank you, Colonel Jesse Martinez Retired Commander 8th Illinois Cavalry —Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.50.183.229 (talk) 03:24, 24 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

We spend a lot of time cleaning up copyright violations, unfortunately. Here, an anonymous user added the content from the external website on January 12, 2010. I have reverted that addition and have warned the user. I understand why you are upset about this but your legal threat was unnecessary. We take copyright violation very seriously, have whole processes dedicated to dealing with them; we block people from continuing to edit every day because of them, and have automated bots that spend all their time looking for these violations and reporting them, but sometimes text slips through, especially when it's been superficially modified just enough so that a normal search fails to find it.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 03:48, 24 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

My page[edit]

I would like to make some additions on my Wikipedia page.

I did not write anything that is on there now although it seems to be completely correct and well written.

You may have a conflict of interest regarding Dick Waterman, the article about yourself. If you seek to make changes, you are welcome to request them on the talk page. Protector of Wiki (talk) 06:45, 24 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Just passing through and picking this up - coincidentally, it was an article that I started. Mr Waterman may also wish to take a look at WP:AB. If there is any published material which can be used to improve the article, I'm happy for it to be drawn to my attention and I can then see what I can do to incorporate it in the article. Please leave any messages either at Talk:Dick Waterman or at my user talk page. Regards, Ghmyrtle (talk) 06:50, 24 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

HISTORY[edit]

HOW DO I GET HISTORICAL INFOMATIONS ABOUT BABYLON , MEDO-PERSIA ,GREECE , ROME , EUROPE. PLS HELP. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 41.211.229.223 (talk) 08:52, 24 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You might find what you are looking for in the articles about Babylon, Medo-persia, Greece, Rome, or Europe. If you cannot find the answer there, you can try asking your question at the Humanities section of Wikipedia's Reference Desk. They specialize in knowledge questions and will try to answer just about any question in the universe (except about how to use Wikipedia, which is what this help desk is for). For your convenience, you may click here to post your question. I hope this helps. Protector of Wiki (talk) 09:00, 24 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Protector, apologies, but I modified the link you provided to the one I know you really meant. Rojomoke (talk) 11:37, 24 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Old Monk[edit]

The subject starts fine, but it becomes a highly biased, regional and humourous article (by some students, probably as a joke, as you can see) rather than a collection of facts. Please revise. 13:08, 24 September 2010 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 117.198.96.243 (talk)

Thanks for the heads up. The article needs a lot of work but I removed the silly content.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 13:18, 24 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Proofreaders es-en[edit]

Ok, I don't understand how to find a proofreader in this category

I'm looking up their contributions, and I find so many people that haven't edited in years and just made a userpage

I think this category is in need of SERIOUS cleanup but I don't know if I'm at liberty to remove the userboxes of others.

I really need someone to proofread Spanish toothcarp, Spanish speaker or not

Thanks --XRDoDRX (talk) 13:48, 24 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You've come to the wrong place - this page is for help with Wikipedia itself. The correct place for your question is the Humanities Reference Desk. When you post it there please provide some detail about the object (which appears to be a cast bronze container) such as where it comes from, its age etc, anything you know about it. Need Editing Help[edit]

I want to contribute to two subjects, Flat File Database and Dummy Variables. I would like to hire someone who can put my contributions into the correct formats. Can you recommend an editor? Thanks. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Davidmould (talkcontribs) 16:30, 24 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Well, what are you intending to put there? DARTH SIDIOUS 2 (Contact) 16:50, 24 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I don't know if there is a forum for setting up that sort of arrangement. But I would suggest that you write something on the articles' talk pages Talk:Flat file database and Talk:Dummy variable talking about the information you want to add, and asking for people to work with you in formatting it. --ColinFine (talk) 18:14, 26 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • Hello. I suspect, based on your question, that you found one of our over three million articles, and thought that we were directly affiliated in some way with that subject. Please note that you are at Wikipedia, the free online encyclopedia that anyone can edit, and this page is a help desk for asking questions related to using the encyclopedia. Thus, we have no inside track on the subject of your question. You can, however, search our vast catalogue of articles by typing a subject into the search field on the upper right side of your screen. If you cannot find what you are looking for, we have a reference desk, divided into various subject areas, where asking knowledge questions is welcome. Best of luck. -- PhantomSteve/talk|contribs\ 17:30, 24 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Do I need permission to copy and use a picture of a particular vegetable on your website?[edit]

Do I need permission to copy and use a picture of a particular vegetable on your website? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.136.138.134 (talk) 17:52, 24 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

What website do you mean? Is it Wikipedia or some other site? DARTH SIDIOUS 2 (Contact) 17:56, 24 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Wikipedia:Reusing Wikipedia content should help. Basically, it depends on the picture and the license under which it has been uploaded, which will specify the terms and conditions under which it can be reused. You may, for instance, need to credit the author if you reuse it, as well as crediting Wikipedia. Karenjc 22:10, 24 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Is there a consensus around WP 1.0, WP:Core, and Vital Articles?[edit]

Total numbersof Murata Punching machines in New Zealand[edit]

Hello there, I've been trying to find out how many Mutara punching machines are in NZ. If I could find out the machine models as well as the locations in NZ that would be fantastic! Could you advise how I can research, please?
