Carlos Santana & Buddy Miles Live @ 1972 Sunshine Festival, Diamondhead Crater, Hawaii

[edit]

I arrived in Honolulu Airport 17 Sep 1971 to report to my duty station, USS HADDOCK SSN621, which was in USNSY; Pearl Harbor; Drydock #2. I WAS THERE...for the Sunshine Fest '72 inside Diamondhead Crater, and when the album was released about six months later, I had to have it, for it was to be the first concert that I attended that was to be recorded live. The album that I have doesn't show the title 'Carlos Santana & Buddy Miles Live' in red ink that you show on your site, could it be a 're-release'? Just a thought, thx a million for posting this!...now what have ya got for '74's Hawaii Summer Jam, from which I made the front page picture on Honolulu Star-Bulletin?? j/k —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.156.49.93 (talk) 01:32, 30 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Re. Carlos Santana & Buddy Miles! Live!. The cover we use could be a re-release; I cannot tell. The file information page does not help, in this case. A google image search certainly implies that that (red inked) cover is common enough, but you might also spot the one you have there too.
You might get more information by asking on our Wikipedia:Reference desk/Entertainment.
If you do find out, please edit the article and add to it. Some example article which show 2 different covers (from which, you could perhaps copy the layout) include: Impossible Princess, Impossible Princess, and Off the Wall. Please ask for help again, if needed. Best,  Chzz  ►  01:42, 30 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
P.S. What is "USNSY"? (Just out of curiousity, because I looked at USS Haddock (SSN-621))  Chzz  ►  03:29, 30 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
With the OP saying the ship was in dry dock, I presume USNSY is United States Naval Shipyard. USN Astronaut (talk) 07:07, 30 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you

I used the book service today. (I dont know if I should call it a service) but it is great. Collect some articles and add them to your book and just download it. Simply superb. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Abhishek.jain.1985 (talkcontribs) 02:07, 30 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

File extension does not match MIME type

[edit]

My friend sent me the word documents that I want to upload to the wiki page. I had tried several times and switches to different browsers as well. But I keep getting this message "file extension does not match MINE type"

In fact, all the files are .doc types. What is the problem?

Please help!!! Thanks! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 111.248.5.200 (talk) 02:28, 30 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, but you can't upload word documents to Wikipedia. The only files we upload here are multimedia files that are to be used in articles (See WP:FILE). If you're trying to include the contents of your word documents in an article, you'll have to type it in or copy-paste as usual. However it sounds like you're not the author of these documents, which would mean you don't own the copyrights for them. In that case, please don't use them in Wikipedia articles. Also see our policies on referencing and original research. Chamal TC 02:44, 30 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

How to change a color of a football player's infobox

[edit]

I'm a football fan and I like to help update football articles, and with the NFL Draft happening I have been updating a lot of new NFL players' articles. I am unsure how to color the infoboxes on a players' article, which changes based on the team a player plays for. Thank you for your help and it is much appreciated. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Patrick K43 (talkcontribs) 02:48, 30 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Like a color on Template:Infobox NFL player? You can't, it is set by the template. CTJF83 02:51, 30 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
The template documentation says the color depends on the value specified for the currentteam-parameter. Toshio Yamaguchi (talk) 03:01, 30 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
(edit conflict) If you're talking about the team colours, they are automatically changed when you add the player's team to the currentteam parameter in the infobox. You've been doing it wrong so far; you have to add the team name without wikilinking it for this to work. See the example changes I made to Curtis Brown and Greg Little articles. Chamal TC 03:04, 30 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you both for the clarification. CTJF83 03:07, 30 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you very much for the help, it's much appreciated. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Patrick K43 (talkcontribs) 14:59, 30 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Template to convert from U.S. postal abbreviation to full state name

[edit]

Is there a template that does this already? It wouldn't take too long to code it, but it would be easier if it was already out there somewhere.... Thanks! Calliopejen1 (talk) 03:25, 30 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Is {{US State Abbrev}} what you're looking for? Chamal TC 03:33, 30 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Yep, exactly, thanks! Calliopejen1 (talk) 03:48, 30 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Can someone fix my broken template?

[edit]

Something is screwed up with the #switch: parser function, but I don't know what. I created Template:Area code box/states to work with Template:Area code box in lieu of having 80 million separate templates in Category:Area code templates. (Check the history of Template:Area code box to see the change I'm making, which will also eventually apply to S1, S2, etc.) Something in the third #switch: in Template:Area code box/states is broken, but I'm not sure where. (The first switch converts from an abbreviation to a linked full name, the second one specifies singular or plural, and the third one lists the relevant area codes.) Thanks!! Calliopejen1 (talk) 04:41, 30 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

There you go.Bility (talk) 06:02, 30 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I've got a Broken Letter Problem.

[edit]

the problem is, when I see Minigun page It looks like this to me.

Well this must be a rookie FAQ but can you help me? Should I install something? Just guiding me towards URL might be very helpful to me. -- 06:08, 30 April 2011 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 175.125.176.246 (talk)

Yes I know, I'm still trying to fix it, sorry. Just a moment.

The squares mean your internet browser does not support that language. G₩PSP0907thAdvisory 06:33, 30 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
The language is in Malayalam, what browser are you currently using? G₩PSP0907thAdvisory 06:34, 30 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I'm using MS Internet Explorer 8 and Windows XP. 175.125.176.246 (talk) 06:38, 30 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
OK, it looks like you won't be able to upgrade to IE9, because it does not support XP. I currently use Firefox 4, and it supports XP and multilingual spelling, so I recommend, if you want to fix this small problem, download Firefox 4. If the problem still persists, please tell if so. Merging two articles into a third (new) article

[edit]

I was considering proposing the articles Hamedori and Gonzo pornography into a third, so far nonexistent article First person pornography. However, neither article is frequently edited and I am worried that reaching a consensus would be nearly impossible. Is there another place for discussion so that a better consensus can be reached? Crisco 1492 (talk) 11:04, 30 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

If I've understood correctly, start discussion, give it a week or so. If no one objects, you have consensus. Zakhalesh (talk) 11:12, 30 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
You understood correctly about my intentions, but my main worry is that there won't be enough discussion for a clear consensus. BTW: Where should the discussion take place? No point in creating First person pornography or Talk:First person pornography if Point-of-view pornography is chosen instead. Crisco 1492 (talk) 11:16, 30 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
The discussion if you go that way should take place at either one of the two existing article talk pages. The other talk page should have a notice about the merge discussion. The other way to do it is to be bold and just do it. Then see if there are any objections. Gonzo pornography has only 40 editors watching and Hamedori has has less than 30 soyou will probably get minimal response to a merge discussion. GB fan (talk) 11:38, 30 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I guess I will have the discussion on the Gonzo pornography page as there are more editors watching it. However, Wikipedia:Merging states that the discussion should take place on the target article's talk page; if I were to create Talk:First person pornography just for the discussion, that would fall under G8 of the criteria for speedy deletion; hence my confusion. Thanks. Crisco 1492 (talk) 11:45, 30 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Sometimes you just have to ignore the rules when it doesn't make sense or it impedes your ability to improve the encyclopedia. GB fan (talk) 11:48, 30 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Indeed, but I've had bad experiences when doing that and citing that policy/pillar (not naming any names, we worked it out eventually). Thanks for the help, merger proposal is up and running. Crisco 1492 (talk) 11:59, 30 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Can I add pages about a company or organization?

[edit]

Can we add page about companies or organizations? I can see some organizations and companies listed here in Wikipedia. What is the rules for that? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Nouranlyzen74 4 (talkcontribs) 12:06, 30 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

You can, but it must follow the guidelines at WP:ORG and not be a conflict of interest (i.e. you are an employee at Pat and Frank's Fish and Chips and make an article about them or heavily edit one). Crisco 1492 (talk) 12:11, 30 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
If you have not written for Wikipedia before, Wikipedia:Your first article might be a good place too look. Bear in mind that if the article does not fulfil the criteria at WP:ORG it will probably be deleted rather quickly. To avoid that happening, going through Wikipedia:Articles for creation might be a good idea. Cheers, doomgaze (talk) 12:20, 30 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Also, beyond being an employee, if you represent a company in any way, such as a marketing firm, then you should also avoid creating or significantly editing the page. Refer to Wikipedia:Articles for creation instead. Tiggerjay (talk) 23:56, 1 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

merged content from Humanure to Compost#Humanure / redirect not working; please help!

[edit]

 Done

Hi, I just merged content from Humanure to Compost#Humanure, added a redirect link, and it's not functioning.

When I search for Humanure, it just shows this (and it doesn't actually redirect!):

---

1. REDIRECT Compost#Humanure

This page was kept as a redirect to the corresponding main article on the topic it names, in order to preserve the page's edit history after its content was merged into the other article's content. Please do not remove the tag that generates this text (unless the need to recreate an article on this page has been demonstrated), nor delete this page. For more information, follow the first category link.

---

Is the redirect syntax wrong? I thought I copied it correctly from the template.

Thanks for any help! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.164.251.197 (talk) 15:39, 30 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

It has been fixed. GB fan (talk) 16:16, 30 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Undectetable Single Failure Point on Scott system

[edit]

I have analyzed the Scott Transformer design providing three-phase power using two single phase thansformers. Failure mode analysis determined that when there is and iterruption of power (open circuit ) to the primary coil of one of the tranformers, the fault is not detected by the user or the power distribution company. The Scott set-up also called T method or B connection, was first used by Mr. Tesla for two-phase distribution. I would like to have confrmation that my analysis is correct.

Thank you

Sranan Tongo Babel Box Category

[edit]

I'm having trouble figuring out how to get a link to my userpage to appear in Category:User srn, which I just created. There's one other Wikipedian, User:Akiora, who has the Sranan Tongo babelbox on their userpage, but that link doesn't appear either. I'm not sure how to fix it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by BrianAdler (talkcontribs) 17:35, 30 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The simplest way is to add the following to your userpage: [[Category:User srn]].
Since you're using {{Babel}} and the other user is, too, I imagine you'd like to fix it so it automatically groups you, as it's supposed to. If nobody happens by who can help out, I'd recommend asking at Wikipedia talk:Babel or Wikipedia:Village pump (technical). --Moonriddengirl (talk) 18:04, 30 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I have edited {{User srn}} and I think the category is now populated. You may have to bypass your browser cache. -- John of Reading (talk) 18:21, 30 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Help

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marketing_for_Grand_Theft_Auto_IV

At this article, i want to edit references, but there's written reflidt/2 .So, how do i edit references? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 203.109.75.251 (talk) 17:42, 30 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

When you are reading an article and see a references section near the bottom populated by a series of numbered citations, you might think that if you edit the page, you will see those citations typed in that section and be able to edit them. However, normally what you will see is code similar to this:

     ==References==

   {{Reflist}} or </references>

The text of citations is actually in the body of the article, directly next to statements or paragraphs the citations support, using <ref>(citation)</ref> tags, which display as footnotes (e.g.[1][2]) when you are reading an article. The template code shown above in the references section colates and displays all of the citations within the article in a numbered list in which the numbers correspond to the footnote numbers in the text. By clicking on the ^ symbol next to a citation display, you can easily find exactly where in the body of the article the citation text appears in order to edit it. For more, please see Wikipedia:Referencing for beginners. Toshio Yamaguchi (talk) 17:45, 30 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Songs as references/sources

[edit]

For example, could I take a person mentioned in The Chanukah Song and put that they are/were Jewish in their article and cite the song as the source? Shark96z (talk · contribs) 20:20, 30 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

For any such information in articles you would need to reference a reliable source, which I'm afraid this song definitely does not qualify as. doomgaze (talk) 20:48, 30 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Citation Style Help

[edit]

Where can I find more information about the citation style used in The Beatles, as I would like to use something similar in an article I've written. Specifically the placing a short name for the source under 'References', linked to the full details of the source under 'Sources'. I looked at the markup in the edit window but I regret to say that it confused the life out of me... doomgaze (talk) 20:24, 30 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

This method is described at WP:CITESHORT -- John of Reading (talk) 21:02, 30 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I can't believe I didn't think of looking there, thanks a lot! doomgaze (talk) 21:04, 30 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
