Protecting my wp account

Hello, I remember seeing something about how to protect your wikipedia account but I can not find the information anymore. The basic idea used some sort of challenge/response or nonce word and a SHA digest. Any clues to what happened to this info? DouglasCalvert (talk) 02:01, 5 August 2011 (UTC)

Vector images of trademarks

What is the correct procedure to deal with media in Category:Vector images of trademarks? Nearly all of these images seem to fail WP:NFC Policy 3. b.. Toshio Yamaguchi (talk) 09:13, 5 August 2011 (UTC)

For the purpose of WP:NFCC#3b the size of an SVG logo is taken to be the rendered size. So the logo should be rendered no larger than is required for the purposes of identification and/or critical commentary. (See {{SVG-Logo}}. The fact that it could be rendered larger is not considered a 3b violation. —teb728 t c 10:25, 5 August 2011 (UTC)

3b says "This rule also applies to the copy in the File: namespace." When I click for example 2000px at File:007.svg I am leaving the File: Namespace, as the 2000px rendering is at http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/7/7f/007.svg/2000px-007.svg.png. Article accreditation

Please could I be sent a break down of the accreditation or rating system for Wikipedia becaues it often features in my research and would like to know how to rank the various pieces in relation to other sources I might use. A graduated validation system would be ideal with an explanation of how ratings or attained.

If you are asking about the reliability of information in Wikipedia, it is not reliable at all, but as a matter of policy all information must be verified (or at least verifiable) with a citation to a published reliable source. (And Wikipedia itself may not be used as a source on Wikipedia.) So if you want to validate the information you get from Wikipedia, you go to the sources and validate the information there. —teb728 t c 10:07, 5 August 2011 (UTC)

template for code of federal reguations

It's unfair to add such Allegations/Controversies on a biography when nothing has been proved yet. Article Subrata Roy

In the section "Controversies" of the article "Subrata Roy" there are two different allegations 1. 2G Spectrum Scam and Contempt of Court & 2. Securities and Exchange Board of India Ban

Both cases are still under judiciary and nothing has been proved yet. In contempt of the court case Senior Advocate K K Venugopal said on behalf of the CBI that: “Evidence found till now is insufficient” Reference: http://post.jagran.com/2g-case-cbi-examines-radia-others-in-allegation-against-sahara-1310403191 . In case of SEBI ban, Supreme Court of india on 15th July 2011 granted a stay on market regulator SEBI’s order of June 23, 2011 that ordered Sahara Group companies to return the money raised through optionally fully convertible debentures (OFCD). They are sourced and notable, I'm afraid. Just please note the wording used. The sections carefully make it a point to say 'allegedly', this is compliant with WP:DUE. Removing them is unhelpful, as that is tantamount to censoring. If you think this might be a guilt by association scenario, it may help if you add other viewpoints of the cases instead. You already have the sources in hand.

Changes to Country Risk wiki page and editing country pages

hi, I am trying to update the "country risk" page which already has information about a survey and wanted to give a better overview of what the survey is about. It was not intended for advertising. (e/c) Both the adding of links and your user name suggests you are operating under a conflict of interest. Your actions would appear to me to be reference spamming. I would not recommend you continue as you have, your best bet is to read the guidelines I have linked you to, then if you feel these links add something to an article you can suggest it at the article talk pages (i.e. Talk:Country_risk) and independent/uninvolved editors can add it to the articles if they feel it will contribute. Privacy and Safety

If I have a Wikipedia username, can my IP address still be discovered? I have been targeted before by botnets and am worried that my Wikipedia posts may have been the reason. I have abandoned my old account and have created a new username as a precaution. Did I really need to do that?

If anyone knows about this (really knows, please no guesses) please let me know.

Only specific, privileged users called checkusers have access to IP data of contributors, and they must identify themselves personally to the Wikimedia Foundation to prevent abuse of the data. So no, no botnet-operator can find your IP address from your username. However, if you ever accidentally edit logged out, you should contact an administrator or oversighter to get the IP hidden. (edit conflict)Registering an account hides your IP address. There are a very limited number of users (called checkusers) that look at your IP info. This is only done, however, if you are suspected of operating multiple accounts contra policy or otherwise abusing Wikipedia. TNXMan 12:59, 5 August 2011 (UTC)

Drop of Contributors

I can understand why there is a drop in contributors. So many pages are monitored by someone with a large ego that feels like the own the page. Every time someone updates the page the revert it back, over and over and over again. The editor seems to be sore about their contributions, like this one, being removed. That was removed because items in a list of that sort should be notable and have an article first and then they can be added to such lists. That is one of the provisions of WP:REDLINK. Wonder Man comic book

I looked up "Wonder Man comic book" to look up a copy that I have and it doesn't seem to be included in the bibliography. I own a Wonder Man comic book by Marvel comics that is a first edition is the March 1985 issue. I am not an expert but I believe that this issue is a compilation of previous work and isn't original but was published and sold by marvel comics in 1985. It is possible that this is the reason it was not included in the bibliography.? Either way I feel that I may have a very, very rare comic book since it "does not exist". Making coords visible through infobox

Many infoboxes add coordinates to the top of the article or display them inside the infobox if coords are added. See Stony River Township, Lake County, Minnesota and Epsilon II Archaeological Site for examples: neither of them have any coordinate coding except for those in {{Infobox settlement}} and {{Infobox NRHP}} respectively, but both have the coordinates in the top right corner and underneath the map. To my surprise, entering the "latitude" and "longitude" fields of {{Infobox hospital}} (see Midwest Proton Radiotherapy Institute for an example) only works to produce the map, and using the "coordinates" field produces the coords in the top right corner and displays them in the infobox, but it doesn't produce the map. Any idea how the template could be modified to allow the "coordinates" feature to produce the map or the "latitude" and "longitude" features to display the coords in the infobox and the top right corner? I would like to add a book to the list of books entitled "List of publications critical of the Latter Day Saint movement." I can't figure out how to do it. When i go to the site and click "Edit" I get a format that doesn't resemble the list itself. How do I add a book to that list?

From the user's page, it appears that he is attempting to insert his own book into the list. I'd think that WP:COI might be relevant here. While I'd not make any judgement one way or another regarding the merits of the book, I do have to ask whether the list itself is justified. Technical help about moving two articles

• The disambiguation page "Steinway" should change name to "Steinway (disambiguation)"
• The page "Steinway" should then redirect to the article "Steinway & Sons"
