Editing Change History[edit]

As I'm new to editing I made some changes to an article about an organization I know very well. However, I do not wish to be identified in the history as having made some edits as is now the case. As such, I've had to reverse out my changes, but they are still there in the history files under my name.

Is there some way I can erase the entries in the history so that I can make an honest change, but without attribution?

Bestani (talk) 01:21, 25 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

No, that is not possible. The license under which you have submitted the information requires that it be attributred to the editor (in this case, you). Only in very rare cases can certain edits be hidden from public view. Edokter (talk) — 01:54, 25 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Your goal is unclear to me. It's your only edits. Are you concerned that somebody can guess who you are from your username? Do you want to repeat the edits without logging in or with another username? All edits are attributed to either the username, or the IP address for editors who were not logged in at the time. Your unsourced edit looked inappropriate anyway and should have been reverted by somebody else if you had not reverted it yourself. Wikipedia is not here to "right great wrongs" about things verifiable reliable published sources have allegedly got wrong. You cannot use unpublished inside knowledge in Wikipedia. Hovering over a link[edit]

Why doesn't Wikipedia have something so that when I move my cursor over a link it gives me a one sentence or so overview of the topic? Many a time, when I look through articles, I'm stopped by a topic I know nothing about. Anywho, this would be really really helpful. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.255.32.65 (talk) 03:30, 25 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Registered users can enable Wikipedia:Tools/Navigation popups at Special:Preferences#mw-prefsection-gadgets. PrimeHunter (talk) 03:35, 25 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, just to pile on, popups does exactly what you suggest and more. I use it all the time. Once you get it, you won't be able to imagine working without it.--SPhilbrick(Talk) 11:52, 25 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Where's my Book (book creator)[edit]

So I logged in to work on my assembled pages using Book Creator - and all my work is gone. Now what?? I'm using my one and only login name. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Wmstvnsn (talkcontribs) 03:46, 25 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Only autoconfirmed or confirmed users can save books. Would you like to be confirmed? PrimeHunter (talk) 03:59, 25 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Well, yes, I would like to be confirmed. It is confusing since I've been working on said book for months, signing in and out of wikipedia. Also, can only one book be created at a time? Many thanks Wmstvnsn (talk) 05:33, 25 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I have confirmed your account. You can save multiple books and choose which to work on. I don't know what happened to the book you were working on but if you don't see it at Special:Book then I'm afraid it's gone. Perhaps you clicked a wrong link last time you worked on it. PrimeHunter (talk) 05:45, 25 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I am very very thankful for your assistance. Please have happy holidays and peace. Wmstvnsn (talk) 05:49, 25 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Incorrect Link[edit]

Under the category "Richmond, Virginia", you have a link to Richmond Christian School as one of the private educational facilities in the area. One thing is correct- there is a Richmond Christian School in the area, but not the one you linked to. The one that y'all linked to is in Richmond, British Columbia (Canada). This Canadian school of the same name has no association to the one in Richmond, Virginia.

I tried to follow the directions on your "Help" page, but I could not find anywhere to submit this information. If I submitted this information to the wrong place, I apologize for the inconvenience. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Msdrea (talkcontribs) 15:18, 25 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I think I fixed it. I removed the link to Richmond Christian School from the article Richmond, Virginia. GB fan 15:51, 25 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Which citation template?[edit]

Should [1] use a cite report, web, or something else? It was published by the Hurricane History Information Tool, a tool developed by the USGS. There is a documentation of the tool but I'm not sure as to which citation template should be used. HurricaneFan25 — 16:17, 25 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I suggest using {{citation}} - which has zillions of options, so you should be able to find parameters to more-or-less fit any info you want to include.  Chzz  ►  18:24, 25 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
If the other citations use Citation Style 1, then you can use {{cite web}}. ---— Gadget850 (Ed) talk 18:26, 25 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
