Admin needed for protected template[edit]

Hello. Following this discussion via WP:SOAPS - changes need to be made to the Template:Infobox soap character. Following the discussion that was live for two weeks the outcome was that one colour should be used for the template. To make it more consistent the colour should now be matched to Template:Infobox soap character 2 - This template is protected, so could an Admin remove the option of the color field and ensure that the template uses only #cccfff - this will then match the second infobox.Rain the 1 00:05, 12 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Is anyone willing to help?Rain the 1 06:54, 12 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

{{admin help}} The change that is needed in Template:Infobox soap character is {{{color|{{{colour|#c0c0c0}}}}}} → #cccfff four places. —teb728 t c 07:21, 12 February 2012 (UTC) (For community discussion of the change see Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Soap Operas#Universal Colour for US Soap Character Infoboxes.) —teb728 t c 08:20, 12 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

It'd probably be more appropriate to describe the change on the template's talk page and use {{edit protected}} instead. --Chris (talk) 07:31, 12 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I've disabled the {{admin help}} request; I guess all the admins who have looked at this in the past 13 hours must have agreed with Chris's advice. {{edit protected}} is the usual way to make this sort of request. -- John of Reading (talk) 21:10, 12 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

MAGPIE article weird statistics results[edit]

This MAGPIE Mega Ampere Generator for Plasma Implosion Experiments article has about 38000 views on the traffic statistics every month, compared to Plasma (physics) which has around 90000 views, which means it is half as popular as the plasma article. Plus this article was created in 2009, but it has statistics views since 2007 how is that possible. Most people don't even know about this MAGPIE article, so how is getting a lot of views just curious to know. It hasn't been edited or added any new info, is someone just clicking on it that many times a day? The traffic statistics could be hacked. Magpie is also a bird which has around 37000, even if this article was popular is has little info som most people would not keep going back to it, and the articles that have links to it get less than a 1000 views a month. Shawn Worthington Laser Plasma (talk) 01:24, 12 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

http://stats.grok.se/en/latest/MAGPIE for MAGPIE shows exactly the same numbers as http://stats.grok.se/en/latest/Magpie for Magpie. It appears the tool cannot distinguish between the different capitalizations. PrimeHunter (talk) 01:33, 12 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah that seems the most reasonable choice, but most bird fans probably can distinguish the capitalization, especially if its been a article for 5 years there bound to correct themselves, but it does have the same amount of results.Shawn Worthington Laser Plasma (talk) 01:51, 12 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Citing a piece of literature / media.[edit]

The encyclopedia requires independent, secondary sources with a track record for accuracy. Does this apply to content about literary works? i.e. Are editors required to find veracious sources to support what happened in a literary work's plot? Or does it suffice to cite the literary work itself? I'm curious if the literary work is considered "reliable" in such a case since it wouldn't be independent, nor secondary. NTox | talk 06:06, 12 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Citing the work itself is naturally acceptable for the content of the work, but not for comments about the content. Roger (talk) 06:30, 12 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
There is actually a lengthy essay on the subject. See especially Wikipedia:How to write a plot summary#Citations. --Saddhiyama (talk) 11:55, 12 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Why can only administrators view deleted pages?[edit]

I can understand why only admins can restore deleted pages. But what harm can it do if non-admins view them? I know that on more than one occasion I've seen a page deleted for "patent nonsense", and I've wondered what it said. I know it's not so that people won't just restore it manually by copying and pasting it, because AFAIK you can't create a page with the same name as one that had been deleted. Anyone know why you can't view deleted pages? flarn2006 [u t c] time: 06:40, 12 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Well, gee, if anyone can view them, in what sense are would they be "deleted"?--Wehwalt (talk) 06:42, 12 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
As in, they wouldn't be part of the main wiki content anymore, and people would know it's not actual, reliable information. And of course that raises the question of why any page would really need to be "deleted", as in, hidden from people. If it's a copyvio, that's one thing, but that can be a separate type of delete, as I'm pretty sure most deletions aren't for this reason. I know certain revisions have been deleted for legal reasons before, like in Conventional PCI. flarn2006 [u t c] time: 06:45, 12 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
The place for this kind of proposal is Wikipedia:Village pump (proposals). —teb728 t c 08:10, 12 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
But before making a fresh proposal there, see Wikipedia:Perennial_proposals#Deleted pages should be visible. -- John of Reading (talk) 08:51, 12 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, you can create a page with the same title as one that has been deleted, as long as the title hasn't been salted. There are very good reasons as to why non-admins can't view deleted pages, including WP:BLP and WP:COPYVIO to name but two. Mjroots (talk) 15:51, 13 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Editing a page that later gets deleted[edit]

If I place a CSD tag on an article that later gets deleted, does that count towards my edit count? PaoloNapolitano 10:38, 12 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Yes it gets counted. If you look at this page you will see detailed statistics of all your editing activity. Roger (talk) 11:10, 12 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
It however, doesn't get counted on your preferences Facepalm Facepalm--Hallows AG (talk) 11:35, 12 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Yes it does - see Help:User contributions#Total edit count. -- John of Reading (talk) 11:49, 12 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

How do I put a reference in a endnote?[edit]

At Ontario Highway 401, I've got two notes to accompany the plethora of references. However, one of the notes requires referencing. When I put a ref in the note, it breaks both and an error message shows up. I know there's a method that doesn't use the ref xml tag, but I can't find it. Spelling error in the title of an article I have created[edit]

I have created the article: Church of St Teilo, LLantilio Crosseney Unfortunately, I have made a mistake in the spelling of the village in which the church is located. The article should be titled: Church of St Teilo, Llantilio Crossenny Can somebody tell me how to retitle the page. Many thanks in anticipation and apologies for the slip-up. Thank you. I shall try not to make such a dumb error again. Much appreciated. KJP1 (talk) 17:14, 12 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
If you make such a mistake again, you can usually move the article yourself. Click the arrow on the banner at the top of the article and select move - that will allow you to move the article to a different title. ItsZippy (talkcontributions) 19:27, 12 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
