August 22[edit]

Article text missing when attempting to edit[edit]

The bottom paragraph of the following article, Mobile_phones_on_aircraft (Technical_discussion), is missing a word. When attempting to edit this section, the last paragraph disappears. In fact, once I log into Wikipedia, the paragraph disappears entirely. Am I missing something or did I stumble across a MediaWiki or caching bug? Kruncher (talk) 03:09, 22 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Which paragraph are you referring to? I can't tell if I can't see the "last one" if I don't know what that one is supposed to be. RudolfRed (talk) 03:12, 22 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I've purged the page's cache. If you're still seeing the error, purge your own cache.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 03:14, 22 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Your purging of the page's cache seems to have done the trick. The paragraph used to start with "Cell phones do cause interference to aircraft communications" and ended with "This interference is a reason to not have phones on during critical phases of flight near the ground". Kruncher (talk) 03:26, 22 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
The page history [1] shows the paragraph was removed in [2]. PrimeHunter (talk) 11:07, 22 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding my personal profile page title(URL address)[edit]

Hello,

I created my page on last 20 Aug 2013 and my page URl is shown User:Jeewantha Ranganath Samarasekara and i just want to know that how can I get URL like Jeewantha Ranganath Samarasekara without "User:". Because of that I can't even link to my profile page from another page. Wiki says that there is no page by my name "Jeewantha_Ranganath_Samarasekara". Please help me on this. Still I'm developing my page at the moment.

Thank You Jeewantha Ranganath — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jeewantha Ranganath Samarasekara (talkcontribs) 06:03, 22 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

You cannot. The main space is only for encyclopedia articles about subjects that are notable. What you have on your page is not an article. If you want to link to your page, you can use User:Jeewantha_Ranganath_Samarasekara RudolfRed (talk) 06:18, 22 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Wkipedia is not a social networking site and does not publish "profile pages". Your user page is a place for telling other users about your skills and interests relative to using and editing Wikipedia. If you are sufficiently notable to merit an article in the main space, you are not the right person to write it. - Karenjc 06:52, 22 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Changing the title of the page[edit]

If a wikipedia page is named incorrectly, how do you change it? As in, the title of the page is inocorrect — Preceding unsigned comment added by 193.5.5.66 (talk) 07:28, 22 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

If it is actually wrong, the "Move" button (under the down-arrow at the top right) is available to autoconfirmed users, but in response to the original wording of this question (regarding Ineos or INEOS) the guidance is at Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Trademarks. - David Biddulph (talk) 07:44, 22 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

As you mentioned, it should be all in capitals. How do I change this? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 46.140.136.154 (talk) 10:39, 22 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

My reading of Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Trademarks is that it should not be all in capitals, so you don't. If in doubt, discuss it on the talk page of the article. - David Biddulph (talk) 10:53, 22 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
If you work for the company then you have a conflict of interest and shouldn't make such changes. See Wikipedia:Requested moves for how to suggest a move. PrimeHunter (talk) 11:02, 22 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Golia[edit]

I have made an article (Golia,Odisha) on my user space (debashiskhataijawahar) and later I moved the same article to my Sandbox provided I have deleted all the contents of my article from the userspace and later requested for the speedy deletion.

So my query is that ,whether my article will be deleted from the Sandbox too or it will delete the same article from my userspace only.

Please help me out in this case.

Advanced Thanks.... — Preceding unsigned comment added by Debashiskhataijawahar (talkcontribs) 10:05, 22 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

What you wrote is now at Wikipedia_talk:Golia,_Ganjam, where you can work on it until it is ready to be submitted as an article. Maproom (talk) 10:19, 22 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I moved it to Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Golia, Ganjam. PrimeHunter (talk) 11:16, 22 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Dear editors: I think that the above article is a copyright violation of http://touch.facebook.com/KomradsFc?v=info&expand=1&nearby, but the latter has more recent dates on it. It's likely been updated. I am not a Facebook user. Is there a way to determine the date that the Facebook page was originally posted? —Anne Delong (talk) 11:16, 22 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

By providing, in the article or at Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/LordQuest, evidence that its subject is notable. Maproom (talk) 13:16, 22 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
You say that he is "verified" by reliable sources. If so, cite these sources in the discussion. But note Ritchie333's comment in the discussion: sources that just say he worked on albums are not enough for notability: the sources need to talk about him at length. You also appear to have a WP:Conflict of interest, and should read the article I just linked to. --ColinFine (talk) 14:03, 22 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Greetings, I just posted an edit to the page The War in the Vendee which contains a link to my own website. I thought this would be justified because to date, our film is the only one of its kind on this little known period of French history. If it seems a conflict of interest, I will remove it. Please let me know what you think. Thanks, Jim Morlino president, Navis Pictures — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jimmorlino (talkcontribs) 12:53, 22 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your post, please see Advice for editors who may have a conflict of interest. Cheers. Mlpearc (powwow) 12:57, 22 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Another relevant page is WP:EL. In my view, a link to a film is unlikely to be justified. If it is from a reliable enough source, it might be cited as a reference. --ColinFine (talk) 14:17, 22 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Incidentally — Jimmorlino has made no edits to any article, and no-one has edited War in the Vendée to add a film link to it. So there is some misunderstanding here. Maproom (talk) 18:52, 22 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

This morning I created a user profile, added my comments to The War of the Vendee page, and clicked "Save". I guess I must have missed something. Can anyone help?

As for the content of my edit which was never actually posted - even though I am the producer of the film, the fact is that this is the only film produced to date on this specific war, so I thought it somewhat relevant.

Perhaps if a third party made the edit mentioning the film, it would be more appropriate? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jimmorlino (talkcontribs) 19:07, 22 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Jimmorlino,
It looks like the page never actually saved. Did you click "Edit source" or "Edit beta" to start? Would you mind trying again? If it saves correctly, you should see a little message that says "Your edit was saved" for a couple of seconds. Whatamidoing (WMF) (talk) 17:35, 23 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks! Will do. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 108.234.193.222 (talk) 17:42, 23 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The article was deleted before i managed to edit it and add more essential information. Is it possible to re-delete it?[edit]

Dear All,

The article about a contemporary author Andrew Buckley (Andrew Buckley (writer)) was deleted during the one day. There wasn't enough time to edit it. Is it possible to re-delete the article since there is some essential information which could be considered as a proof that Andrew Buckley is worth to be noted at the Wikipedia. Would you please advice what to do to re-delete it? And if it is impossible, will it be considered as spamming if the edited article about Andrew Buckley will be added to the Wikipedia one more time?

I do appreciate your assistance. Looking forward to hear from you soon.

Kind regards,

Helga — Preceding unsigned comment added by Helga Poter (talkcontribs) 14:33, 22 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Take a look at WP:CREATIVE for the guidelines on notability of writers. If you have or can find reliable sources that demonstrate that he meets those guidelines, the article can be re-created.--ukexpat (talk) 15:09, 22 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
If you think there is material in your draft that could be used in a second attempt, you could ask the Admin who actually deleted the article to userfy it for you. In any case, if you are going to make another attempt, I strongly suggest you use the WP:Article wizard, rather than just editing the article in mainspace. --ColinFine (talk) 15:29, 22 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
@Helga Poter: The central location for such requests is Wikipedia:Requests for undeletion. -- John Broughton (♫♫) 23:54, 22 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Which I see you found. -- John Broughton (♫♫) 00:50, 23 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Help[edit]

Hi,

We have a page we'd like to update the logo for, can someone please contact me? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Blacketta1 (talkcontribs) 18:25, 22 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

If you tell us what page it is, and how the updated logo can be obtained (along with the necessary copyright release), I am sure that someone will help you. Maproom (talk) 18:47, 22 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
We often allow logos as fair use with no copyright release, but it depends on the article. PrimeHunter (talk) 01:05, 23 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Lost password is the tip of the iceberg[edit]

So I haven't logged in since.. who knows? Years, for sure. Sorry. But I do have stuff to contribute. And I'm pretty sure of the username I had setup (unagi). I forgot the password, which isn't terribly surprising, and got myself stuck after 3 tries (not enough, incidentally). No problem I thought, I asked for a reset. But I'm not getting it on any obvious account, so I'm afraid it might have gone to the (rhyming) old one I'm not using any more. Is this hopeless?? Bozo-user may have to be created next.. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2602:30A:C058:E270:C81A:A909:E0A:95DD (talk) 18:45, 22 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

If the old username has no edits for a long time the simplest solution is to register a new username. Mention on your new user page that you used to edit under the old name. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 19:28, 22 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
User:Unagi has not specified an email address so a password reset is not possible. Special:Contributions/Unagi shows six edits in 2005 and nothing since. If it was your account then just forget it and create a new account. PrimeHunter (talk) 22:22, 22 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Dear editors: I have been trying to figure out if these two articles are a cut-and-paste. Any opinions? —Anne Delong (talk) 19:20, 22 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I don't see where they were ever the same size, though that could be solved in edit mode by pruning; no concrete way to tell. Dru of Id (talk) 19:55, 22 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I will have to assume then, that they are not. Thanks for checking. —Anne Delong (talk) 01:47, 23 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/maulana abid khan sab . Declined in June. No references. Unless multiple independent in-depth coverage in reliable published sources are included, it cannot be considered for acceptance. Dru of Id (talk) 20:10, 22 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

How can you put down a predator as a notable person of a town? No predator is notable, they are disgusting excuses for human beings. No city should have to be associated with such beast. Every town deserves to be seen for their attributes, not their disgraces. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 198.228.228.174 (talk) 20:28, 22 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, this got out of hand. Don't call living people evil, indirectly or directly, meaningfully or accidentally. To the questioner, please remember that notable does not mean noble, nor does it mean awesome. It means notable. ~Charmlet -talk- 02:14, 23 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Wikipedia is not censored. We have an article on Adolf Hitler, because he is notable. --ColinFine (talk) 12:01, 23 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Unexplained image removal[edit]

Back in January, I added a photo of Jeff Waldstreicher, a Maryland State Senator. Since then, multiple IP accounts have repeatedly removed the image (see the article history) without explanation, save for one instance when the image was described as "vandalism."

With one exception, these IPs have always been different. First it was 216.59.124.3, then 173.69.151.168, then 76.100.62.232, and finally 38.97.105.2, who has now done this twice. There has still been no explanation as to why these IPs (who I presume are one person) continue to remove this image. My question: would it be possible to ban these IPs from editing, or somehow protect this page otherwise? Delaywaves • talk 23:04, 22 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Having checked his website and confirmed to my satisfaction that the image you're talking about is of the man in question, I've semi-protected the article for 1 month, in the hope that by the time this expires the person/people doing this will have found something else to do. For future reference, page protection requests are best placed at WP:RFPP, as asking on the help desk depends on an admin seeing it (as not all the helpers here are admins - though perhaps some more of them should be <looks at Ukexpat... again... >) BencherliteTalk 23:13, 22 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Interesting, or maybe unsurprising, given the subject matter and politics, that three of the IPS geolocate to the Washington D.C area (one there, one in Rockville and one in Annapolis).--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 23:35, 22 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Not surprising. However, in Washington, DC, one might not see Annapolis as part of the greater Washington area. However, it is the place of work of the Senator. Robert McClenon (talk) 01:43, 23 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Also, it isn't uncommon for vandalism to be described as removal of vandalism. Robert McClenon (talk) 01:45, 23 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
