Nica Noelle[edit]

I just tried to edit the page on Nica Noelle. I am her publicist, and she specifically asked me to edit her page to make updates and correct misinformation that was on her page. One of my edits was reversed because "saying you are her publicist is not enough." Okay, what is enough? I also noticed that some of the other edits I made several months ago were gone, one of which was adding her website, which is online and verifiable. I don't see why that was taken down. What do I need to do to be verified? Not all of her information is in print. Exactly. What you know even if your identity is completely verified, does not matter. What matters is what can be cited to reliable sources. Also, as the subject's publicist, you have a conflict of interest, and in general should not directly edit the article. Instead you should make suggestions at Talk:Nica Noelle. I was the editor that reverted your changes and just to set the record straight, my edit summary read "Remove WP:OR, just saying that info is supplied by a publicist is not enough." In the edits, you did not claim to be her publicist, you said the info was supplied by her publicist. That made it sound like a game of Telephone where one person says something to the next and then to the next and by the end the message has completely changed. Not that it really matters though since the info provided in articles, as said above, needs to be verifiable. Every reader should be able to go to the reliable source, web site/book/magazine/etc, and look up the info themselves. Dismas|^(talk) 00:58, 19 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

User[edit]

An IP address is a form of identification (which often changes for some people) but not a username. If you create an account then you choose a username and can make a user page. Unregistered users can only create pages in talk namespaces and the new draft namespace, not in the user namespace. PrimeHunter (talk) 02:26, 19 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Are you sure? I think the problem is that User:64.92.53.159 does not yet exist and only registered users can create pages. I think that if someone created that page, then the IP user could edit it. RudolfRed (talk) 17:40, 19 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

You are right, and it doesn't contradict what I said. I omitted that technicality because we generally don't want IP "user pages". They may be relevant in rare cases with long-term static IP contributors who will not register but still want their own page for some reason. Do you mean Web design in Dubai or a company called Web Design Dubai? Your first article is the go-to place for this and where you will have the most support. If you are in any way affiliated with a company of that name then you are strongly urged not to edit the article yourself per conflict of interest. Editing in IE11[edit]

I am unable to get the Citation templates dropdown to work with IE11. Has anyone else experienced this and perhaps resolved it? Screech1616 (talk) 12:46, 19 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Yes I have this problem as well - It was also a long-term problem in IE10, although citation templates were working (very briefly) before Microsoft changed me to IE11 without asking whether I wanted to change, or not.
Unfortunately, as I have complained about numerous times on Wikipedia, IE users are treated as second class citizens; many software changes are poorly tested, and frequently cause problems with IE.
However, in this instance, it appears to have been an IE change, rather than a WP change that has caused the problem. Arjayay (talk) 17:10, 20 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Using Compatibility view (Tools, Compatibility View settings) re-enables Templates and the Reference option, but does not seem to enable Named references, or Error check. Compatibility view also creates some problems with drop-down menus on hover - but might be worth trying out to see I the benefits outweigh the problems. Valley, Alabama[edit]

This is a biased opinion. "The city does however suffer from a southern baptist, dogmatic social structure that prevents any real growth. And another negative aspect is the obvious "good ole' boy" system that not only thrives but is encouraged throughout the political landscape in Valley. That wasn't the only problem with the article- but most of the unsourced, improper content has been removed. audience wave origin[edit]

Dear Sir. I would like to help document the origin of the 'audience wave'. In the early 1970's the University of Washington yell leader Rob Weller was responsible for the wave creation. The historic cheer of "GO----HUSKIES" was traditionally given and answered from two sides of the football stadium--the students on the north side and the adults on the south side. Rob had the entertaining and creative idea of announcing or pointing to various seating sections for either the "GO' or the "Huskies" response. This entertaining cheering practice brought excitement to the usually energetic college football crowd. The volume competition from various sections soon lead to the "sweeping" wave from around the U shaped stadium as Rob would call out the sections and later just the cheering sweep of the wave became popular. I was a graduate coach at the time and had the leisure and pleasure of watching this cheer evolve. Please contact me for specific dates or other witnesses for the documentation of this fun part of University of Washington Husky History. If you were hoping to add your information to an article, such as Audience_wave, please be aware that content in Wikipedia articles should be supported by published reliable sources not personal recollections, however well informed or accurate they may be. If you do not have a published source which supports your statements above, please do not add them to a Wikipedia article. You could post on Talk:Audience_wave, this might help some other person find a published source. Why have I received this?[edit]

I have just received this when accessing a page - I don't know what it's talking about and have not been anywhere near the page it mentions etc, and I dont edit wiki pages just use them. Please tell this person not to accuse people ofdoing things they haven't.

Please stop removing information from this article, adding flags where inappropriate and pushing your own point of view. A table is inappropriate because this information will always be incomplete. Hey, 88! Don't worry about that message; it's not addressed to you. What happened is that the IP address that you use is a dynamic one, meaning that your IP address changes from time to time. This time, it changed to one that had been used by someone else, long, long ago, and they did something that caused another editor to leave them that message. If you look at the timestamp, that comment has been there since 2007; it's just been sitting there for six years. Isn't there a box at the foot of the page, saying "This is the discussion page for an IP user, identified by the user's numerical IP address. Some IP addresses change periodically, and may be shared by several users. If you are an IP user, you may create an account or log in to avoid future confusion with other IP users. I guess David did exactly that and copied the displayed text but there are things which can change what is displayed, like preferences. A registered user with en-gb as language at Special:Preferences would see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:88.107.194.229?uselang=en-gb which has another wording than IP's see. Logging out is the best way to ensure you see the same as another logged out user but there are still no guarantees. For example, some banners can depend on geolocation. How to post a URL link?[edit]

I am wondering how do you post a web link (URL) in such a way that it is not displayed as the whole line but allows only a small spot on the page that requires a click to redirect the user to the actual link/web page, thus making the URL itself invisible? Erroneous map[edit]

Somebody pointed out here that the map shown on the page Organisation Africaine de la Propriété Intellectuelle is incorrect. Indeed, the map appears to be wrong. I have no idea how to edit the map. Can you help? Thanks. --Edcolins (talk) 18:15, 19 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Inappropriate Photo[edit]

Since the hanging occurred in Tappan, NY, the poster is relevant. Wikipedia has this wonderful "not censored" policy which precludes the removal of content on the grounds of offensiveness. DavidLeighEllis (talk) 19:11, 19 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

It's a painting from 1783 and the hanging seems significant for a small town so I think it's relevant enough to be in the article. Wikipedia is not censored and although we may take certain considerations about graphic photos and recently deceased people, I don't see justification for removal here.
