bboy records the real deal[edit]

My name is Ray Wilson the last living partner of Jack Allen and Bill Kamarra. I am the sole owner of BBoy Records. Ninety per cent of the information that appears on your Wikipedia Site is incorrect. The contributors to any information on BBoy Records are only guessing and basing their knowlege on hearsay. I want to add my own personal experience to this website which is the real deal. Ray Wilson 71.190.248.21 (talk) 00:43, 13 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Before editing the article, please read the guidance at WP:COI. It would be better if you made suggestions for improvements at the article's talk page instead. Also, you can't use personal experience as a source of information, unless it is backed up by a reliable source. RudolfRed (talk) 00:57, 13 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Are you requesting this images be used on wikipedia? From what I can tell, unless you have permission from the creator of that logo, you cannot use it on wiki. Tiggerjay (talk) 07:47, 15 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I think we make exceptions for fair use. Former logos are tricky, but current logos definitely seem to qualify.— Vchimpanzee · talk · contributions · 20:53, 15 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

RfC question[edit]

Resolved

If an RfC was automatically closed, where would I go to ask someone to determine consensus? I was involved in it, and I don't feel I should determine it, for that reason. - Purplewowies (talk) 03:10, 13 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Requests for closure. Though It can still take awhile. Monty845 04:52, 13 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. - Purplewowies (talk) 05:30, 13 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Well. Just realized the RfC in question is already listed there. Will file this away for the future in any case. - Purplewowies (talk) 05:39, 13 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Adding Citations[edit]

I would like to add a citation because my article was denied due to not including any. Unfortunately, I only have one article from our local Huntsville Times newspaper. Will this be sufficient? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.207.179.106 (talk) 05:34, 13 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

We can't tell which article you are talking about (this IP has no previous contributions), so I can't give you a definite answer, but probably not: if there is only one independent reliable reference to be found, the subject probably does not meet the criterion of notability, and so cannot have an article. --ColinFine (talk) 16:25, 13 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Copied Info[edit]

Hello.... I got a message that the information I posted was copied from another site..... Basically, the same info I uploaded here was uploaded to another wiki site. What do I need to do so it's not flagged? Thanks! Orrji (talk) 05:37, 13 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

It appears under the terms of service at the other wiki site, that when you posted material there you gave them the copyright and they do not have a free copyright license like we do. So your submission of this material here was, though in good faith, an apparent copyright infringement.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 07:44, 13 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
In addition, the material was not suited for a Wikipedia article so fixing the copyright issue wouldn't be enough. See Wikipedia:Conflict of interest. PrimeHunter (talk) 22:47, 13 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

A. A. Allen "healing evangelist" article: Major problems[edit]

I believe that the article on "healing evangelist" A. A. Allen has been so fraught with problems because of lack of objectivity in editing that it should be deleted. It appears that various individuals have attempted to either edit to say that he had an alcohol problem and died because of alcoholism, or that this was not the case. The article has gone back and forth like a ping-pong ball. I attempted to not take sides, but to simply insert evidence suggesting that the issue of the cause of death might be more complex than what the papers said, which was that he died of alcoholism. I also said that the coroner's report, coupled with more up-to-date information on prescription drugs, suggests that prescription drugs for knee pain may have been the actual cause of death, or at least a major factor. I also named the drugs involved. ALL of that information has been removed, and we are back to the "Allen was an alcoholic; he died because of alcoholism" stance. That will probably shortly be replaced once again by the "No, he didn't" stance, and then back to the "Yes, he did" stance. I give up. I don't know of any way that this article can be maintained as a community-edited wiki in any manner that even begins to approach objectivity. For whatever reason, even 43 years after his death, it seems that everyone has an opinion about this man and about his death. I don't think that those opinions belong in a wiki, but those opinions have dominated the editing of this article for years. I know of no way to have that not continue to be the case. Mtnbuilder (talk) 13:12, 13 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

But the fact that he died of liver failure induced by a heavier alcohol consumption is supported by multiple reliable sources. Do you have reliable sources that say otherwise? I have not noticed any in your version of the article. Ruslik_Zero 16:35, 13 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Songwriting recognition[edit]

I wrote "Roses In The Snow" recorded by Emmylou Harris and I wonder why I am not listed in the Oklahoma Country Music Hall of Fame. My song is considered a classic and has been recorded in Holland, Russia and Australia, plus several known artists in the USA. Can you please contact me? Hello Ms. Franks. As best I can make out, you appear to have thought when you wrote the above that you were at the website of, or one affiliated with, the Oklahoma Country Music Hall of Fame. This site is Wikipedia, a free online encyclopedia, so there's nothing we can do about the issue in your post. To the extent you already understood that, please note that this help desk is for help in using Wikipedia, and not a general help forum. If you have a specific knowledge question, you can ask it at the reference desk. Anyway, I took a look to see if I could locate the website of the OCMHOF and while I did confirm its existence (at least at one time), I failed to find any website (I was though able to find websites for the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame and Country Music Hall of Fame).--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 14:47, 13 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Problem with graph chronology for next UK election[edit]

Ok, so this page has always had a chart but due to the continuous updates with the addition of new polls the chart needs updating every once in a while. This has meant that there are now an abundance of unwanted/out of date files on wikipedia, which should really belong in the chronology of the original chart. As you can see from the chronology all is well for the chronology of that page until it stops at May 2012, the final update.

The next image to be uploaded was a chart that covered just 2012, this chart and the original chart were used simultaneously for a period. That is until the data for 2011 and 2012 was updated to the 100px|talk page to accommodate the new format (due to the addition of UKIP's column). This is a recent occurance. I was the one that uploaded the new data a few days ago, I also created a new interim chart to see us through until we could get a new version of the favoured chart to cover May 2010-Present Day.

A similar dummy chart exists, this preceded my chart, it was made in error, I discovered the lines were too thick for interpretation, therefore this image needs to be deleted, as it is in effect a duplicate. I do not know how to delete this image, or suggest deletion, can someone help/delete it for me? I'll see to it that there are comments on that page.

Since my chart was uploaded, I have uploaded the data to the 100px|talk page, for User:Wavehunter to update the chart that preceded mine to include the data from 2010 and 2011. The reason for this is that Wavehunter's chart was the one that had consensus. In the meantime Impru20 has uploaded an improved version of my graph. Since then Wavehunter has uploaded his updated chart which is now (by consensus) the current chart.

To summarise what I need help with doing/for someone to do for me:

All of these listed graphs need to be added to the chronology of the original chart and not be as separate pages. In chronological order the follow should be added to the chronology:

  • (or deleted)
  • (current)

Note: Please do not include: the chart that covered just 2012 as it is useful on other pages and does not fit in the chronology (as does not include 2010or11!

I would really appreciate someone doing this for me, as I am likely to make a mistake with it being multiple edits and my 1st time doing this. Could you also leave a note explaining how to do this for future reference on the talk page for the benefit of myself and future editors.

Many ThanksSheffno1gunner (talk) 17:20, 13 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I've hatted the chart examples, since they're taking up a big chunk of the page. RudolfRed (talk) 19:22, 13 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for doing that but could you please try and answer the question!Sheffno1gunner (talk) 21:02, 13 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Your question is quite long, and requires 13 graphs to illustrate it. I, for one, failed to grasp it all. Maybe you could provide a short summary? Maproom (talk) 20:52, 16 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

viewing images in wikipedia[edit]

how can I hide the left side pane when viewing images from wiki articles? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 108.192.18.194 (talk) 18:55, 13 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

If you click an image in an article then you are first taken to an image page with a left side pane and much other stuff like the image license and author which we are legally required to show for many images. If you click the image on the image page then you only see the image, and at its original size. Does that answer your question? PrimeHunter (talk) 22:40, 13 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Jerry Lee Lewis has two surviving daughters[edit]

On the Jerry Lee Lewis bio, he was listed as having 7 wives with children with different ones. It is reported that with his 4th wife, Jaren Gunn, that they had a daughter which is correct. Her name is Lori Lee Lewis. Later, there is a mention of "two of his surviving children's names". They omitted Lori's name. She is also still living and she has a daughter, Lauren Leigh Lewis Lancaster, who is Jerry Lee's only grandchild. All of this information is well-documented with birth certificates (Jerry Lee is listed on Lori's birth certificate very clearly), family photos, and various court records. There was a major article in the Memphis newspaper (the Commercial Appeal on June 27, 2010)that presented much of this information. Lori should be mentioned by name as one of the surviving children and Lauren should be mentioned as his only grandchild. Thank you. Wayne Lancaster (talk) 19:00, 13 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for sharing this information Wayne, it appears that you have a personal connection with Lori Lewis Landcaster. It appears that a year after that story, there was another artile run in the same newspaper which reinforces that she "claims" to be Jerry Lee Lewis' daughter, but apparently this claim is in dispute according to the article here. We will need a reliable source before the content is included. Thanks. Tiggerjay (talk) 07:23, 15 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Desert (metal band)[edit]

Hello. My name is Kostya and I am the manager of Israeli metal band "Desert". I wrote an article about my band in wikipedia, and I really want you to make it official

Wikipedia_talk:Articles for creation/Desert (metal band)

Hope for your quick answer. — Preceding unsigned comment added by K0sty42012 (talkcontribs) 19:02, 13 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I converted your external link to a wikilink. On a quick look, it appears that the band probably does pass the test for notability, assuming that at least some of the sources you refer to are to be considered reliable sources. And despite your conflict of interest, the article is written in neutral language, so well done (but it would be best if you did not edit the content any further, as advised by the "conflict of interest" page I linked to). The main problem with it is that it has no inline citations at all, so the reader cannot see how to verify any information in the article. Once you have added citations for everything in the article (and removed all information for which you have no reference), I advise you to submit it for review, by adding {{subst submit}} at the top. --ColinFine (talk) 20:15, 13 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I also took a look and second everything that ColinFine mentioned. Please take a moment to convert all of your sources/references into proper inline citations. Tiggerjay (talk) 07:26, 15 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

WRONGFUL DISMISSAL OF DUANE HITCHINGS SITE on Wikipedia concerning a false accusation of "gross copyright" information.[edit]

WIKIPEDIA

Hitchings Enterprises

Hitchings Productions ~ DuaneSongs ~ EDM Artist

Website: Reverbnation ~ Duane Hitchings/DigitalHitch

January 13, 2013

Sir/Ms,

My name is Duane Hitchings. I am a successful songwriter has won a Grammy and hit records for my efforts. I have sent two letters to you folks about YOUR CLAIM that I was NOT a co-writer of the song “Do Ya Think I’m Sexy”. I AM a co-writer of “Do Ya Think I’m Sexy. I also sent copyright proof that I was in fact a co-writer. I was left off the credits by either clerical error or another reason which was a misunderstanding between Rod and Carmine Appice for – Rod’s drummer at the time – both good friends of mine. I went to MySpace recently and found the song was taken off my song list with , even on MySpace. I sold part of my publishing years ago to Full Keel Music, and trust me, they would not have given my HALF of the monies they gave me if “Sexy” was not part of my publishing ! It is the “flagship” of my catalog.

This is what bothers me. I wrote to a young lady 3 years ago about correcting this mistake because my name was taken off Wikipedia because of “gross misrepresentation “ concerning “Sexy”! Of course I was angry but understood the confusion, SO, I wrote 2 letters with proof of my co-writing Sexy. There was no response and even though I followed EXACT instructions by her concerning a form I was to fill ! I co-wrote this song in 1979. I missed standing on the Stage with Rod and Carmine for ASCAP song of the year because of this confusion. I assure you, I have received every single royalty check. I also have the paper that was drawn up by my attorney and Carnie Appice , that I was indeed the co-writer of the music and Rod finished the melody and , of course the lyrics.

This was embarrassed at first until Rod mentioned to many people and in interviews that, indeed I and Carmine were the co-writers.

My complaint to you folks, even though sending you two ( a LONG time ago ) letters and proof of copyright, I am still banned from Wikipedia and now this false information has spread to MySpace. The statement of yours of my “gross misrepresentation” on my part is libel if proven ONCE AGAIN that I , indeed co-wrote “Sexy” !

I am not threatening anyone but PLEASE answer me and let’s get this straight ! I went on to write 3 more hits with Rod - “Young Turks”, “Infatuation” and “Crazy’ Bout Her” . Certainly, Arnold Stiefel ( Rod's Manager ) AND Rod would have put a stop to my claims immediately if I were lying ! Arnold is Rod’s manager and I know him and Rod VERY well. AND , I might add, any record company takes forever too change mistakes on credits. They would have to reprint the album info. One would think after Warners made MANY, MANY MILLIONS, they could at least afford to change credits with a new printing of “Blondes Have More Fun -, the album that “sexy was on ------ 10 YEARS LATER !! To a writer such as myself, it is VERY important as you can imagine !

Please, would you do something about this soon ! I WILL write ANOTHER form or letter to you folks if I have too but as you can understand, I am very frustrated even though I have given you proof and no action has been taken by Wikipedia. I know my last complaint was 5-6 years ago but the MySpace comment finally got me to get this straightened out. Thank you !

Regards,

Duane Hitchings

By the way, my name is ALL OVER Wikipedia, just dial in my name. I also belong to all the important and popular musicians sites on the internet. PLEASE , let's get this resolved ! I know you folks are busy but this has gone on way too long and it is embarrassing ! Thank you and thank you for your obvious hard work with this site ! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Captainhit (talkcontribs) 20:06, 13 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Duane. You seem to be talking about two quite separate issues, both of which I can see have been frustrated by. I am not going to talk about the copyright issue, which I am not knowledgeable on. But for the content issue: the problem is that Wikipedia works on the criterion of verifiability, not truth. This may seem perverse, but the article I just linked to explains why. Put simply: it doesn't matter how many letters you write: if a reader tomorrow or next week or ten years from now sees something written in an article, they need to be able to find a reliable published source that confirms it, otherwise they have no way of knowing whether the information is correct or was a mistake, or was inserted by a vandal. As long as no reliable published sources say that you wrote that song, then Wikipedia, by its rules, should not say you did, and anybody who removes a claim that you did is entirely within their rights. I can see that this would be upsetting for you, but to meet our rules, you need to get a reliable source to say you did before that information can be validly added to a Wikipedia article. (By the way, like the vast majority of people who reply on this page, I am not an employee of Wikimedia foundation, or even an Administrator of Wikipedia: I am just an editor like you). --ColinFine (talk) 20:33, 13 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
We have this listed as released in late 1978 so if you co-wrote it in 1979 something has gone wrong somewhere. How much money would you owe Jorge Ben Jor, by the way? Britmax (talk) 20:50, 13 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Apparently not much doubt over the fact that Hitchings co-wrote the song [1], [2], whenever it was. I've added it to the relevant article, although I couldn't readily discern whether his name had ever been there. It's there now anyway, with a ref. Can't clarify which co-writer may or may not have plagiarised. All water under the bridge, I'm guessing. Bretonbanquet (talk) 20:59, 13 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Great! Britmax (talk) 23:37, 13 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

shouldn't this be out of copyright?[edit]

I would like to use this image in the article Sacred Cod of Massachusetts, but it is uploaded here as being a fair use image. Shouldn't it be well out of copyright as it was designed in 1776 and even the current seals of New Hampshire just have an "insignia" warning. Is this image just incorrectly tagged or can I not use it?--Found5dollar (talk) 20:21, 13 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

You are correct in that you can use it; works made before 1923 are automatically free from copyright. I tried to find a similar seal to give you an example but was horrified to find that almost all of them have the wrong copyright tags! Some even have {{PD-user}}, and I'm pretty sure none of the seals were designed by Wikipedia users! Intelligentsium 20:32, 13 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Citation Needed[edit]

how long do sentences with "Citation Needed" stay before the un-sourced sentenced is removed?--intraining Jack In 20:57, 13 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

It depends on the statement. See the comments given at Template:Citation_needed under the sections for "when not to use" and "how to respond. RudolfRed (talk) 21:08, 13 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think there is a specific agreed upon timeframe for that, so it is difficult to give an exact answer. In general, anything needs to be attributable to a published source per Wikipedia:No original research. Per WP:BURDEN material lacking a reliable source supporting it may be removed. However, removing a statement for which a reliable source might reasonably be found might be seen as disruptive by other editors. Is there a specific tagged statement you think should be removed? -- Toshio Yamaguchi 21:11, 13 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I'm guessing there is a reporting or category mechanism somewhere that lists articles based on the date param in those maintenance tags, and a collective (herd?) of WikiGnomes who might patrol them from oldest to newest, deleting the offending material when they can't resolve the complaint. Maybe a member of such a herd can comment on the minimum age of tags that they typically process. Or is it up to me to clean up after the tags I insert, and after what period of time? —[AlanM1(talk)]— 02:16, 15 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

TOC empty space[edit]

Is there a way to minimize the empty space left beside the TOC? In one article I used a TOC:Right formatting, which minimized the blank space in my screens. However, another editor complained that for his screen it was the opposite. I couldn't find anything like wrap around or anything else.--99.159.17.33 (talk) 21:54, 13 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

This generally shouldn't be done. Empty space to the right of the TOC is OK but see Help:Section#Floating the TOC. Browsers and window widths can react differently to layout of web pages. If a TOC is very long with many subsections then you could consider Help:Section#Limiting the depth of the TOC. PrimeHunter (talk) 22:28, 13 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Particularly by reducing the number of levels of subsections - many articles have way too many unnecessary levels.--ukexpat (talk) 02:41, 14 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

English players who played American football[edit]

Dear Sir,

I recently searched for English players who have played American football. Would I be able to include my name and details to be included within that list please ? The reason being is that I was voted (by all the other coaches and team captains) to be the Budweiser Rookie of the year in 1989. I played for the following teams;

Portsmouth Warriors youth team - 1986 - 1987 London Ravens youth team - 1988 London Ravens - 1989 - 1990 - Won Budweiser Rookie of the Year 1989

Harper college, Illinois, Chicago, USA - 1991 - 1994.

Thank you,

Regards, Paul McAuslan (formally Mellis) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mike Webster52 (talkcontribs) 22:00, 13 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for asking here first. If you refer to Category:English players of American football then it's a category. Categories can only contain Wikipedia articles. There doesn't appear to be an article about you so you cannot be added to the category. Wikipedia:Autobiography says to avoid writing an article about yourself. PrimeHunter (talk) 22:22, 13 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
However, if you are notable (which basically means that several reliable sources, independent of you or your teams have written about you) then somebody may write an article about you. If that is the case, you could request an article at WP:Requested articles (but there is a backlog), or you could ask at WT:WikiProject American football whether anybody there would like to write one. But if it turns out that there simply aren't the articles about you in reliable sources, then don't waste your time asking. --ColinFine (talk) 17:50, 14 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
