To please correct error on Governor Alejandro García Padilla

I'm from Puerto Rico and I was at the taking of the oath of office to Governor-Elect Alejandro García Padilla today. In Wikipedia, Alejandro García Padilla appears as the 11th Governor of Puerto Rico; this is a mistake. He was sworn in today as the 10th Governor of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico and someone named Ahnoneemoos is telling me I'm wrong. He must be confused, because in Puerto Rico, if a Governor wins another term he stays with the number of governor he gets when he takes the oath of office the first time. We do not give a number to every new governor, unless if it's their first term as governor of the island. In this case, Alejandro García Padilla sworn in today, January 2nd, 2013; is the 10th Governor of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico. They even mentioned it when he was taking office today. Thanks for your help. Please tell Ahnoneemoos, that I'm right, and if you don't correct this error, you'll just will have to because it's in Puerto Rico's history, he's the 10th Governor, no the 11th. Thanks again.

I did notice that when this edit was reverted, the stated reason was: "...news sources are reporting this INCORRECTLY" - and the policy is that verifiability from reliable source(s) trumps "what I believe to be true". No? Shouldn't we go with the sources, and —if— they are incorrect, then find a -reliable- source which says so. Our article Nick Licata (politician) links http://blogs.seattletimes.com/today/2012/09/seattle-city-council-approves-new-arena/ as a reference. When I access this page (at least with Firefox 17.0.1), my CPU usage nearly pegs at maximum usage (4GB!) and I have to restart the browser. I'm wondering if it has this effect for others, and if so what we should do about the link. I do see enough to believe that it is a legitimate page on the site of the Seattle Times, but they appear to me to have screwed something up technically. - Jmabel | Talk 03:09, 3 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

An example would help. If it's a single instance, then my advice would be to assume good faith and discuss your edits with the other editor. If someone is repeatedly labelling your edits as vandalism, that constitutes a personal attack: you should ask them to stop, and if they persist, report them to the incidents noticeboard. At the top of your draft article there is a box which contains a link (blue text) "Submit the page!". Clicking on that link will send your draft to the review process at the Articles for creation section. Roger (talk) 10:59, 3 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

No. The OP specifically asked how to submit the draft to the review process, not to move it directly to mainspace, where IMHO, it would not survive for long in it's current state. Request - William Brandt of England

According to heritage, the first recording of the Brand (Brandt) surname within England was William Brandt around 1086. The surname Brand is found in many areas around the world which includes England, Scotland, Germany, Sweden, Denmark, Holland, Australia, Canada, South Africa, Israel and many other places. It is both a surname of Christians and also a surname of Jewish population.

I was wondering if a better Wikipedia page could be constructed, looking into greater depth of the surname. Maybe research could be made to identify who William Brandt was.

None of that information is from anything even remotely resembling a reliable source. It reeks of the mail-order "heraldry and genealogy" databases which dump so much bogus information into the world. Lithuanian infobox

In Lithuanian Wikipedia, {{Infobox}} ({{Infolentelė}}) is transparent, and I believe for no reason. Could you make it gray like in English Wikipedia, because in such articles like Tikras kraujas other things get under the infobox and that's bad. And aesthetically it looks better when gray. Several names for one input

It's generally bad to have two parameter names for the same thing. It causes confusion when different editors use different names, and the template language requires that each appearence of the parameter in the template code must have code to duplicate the name. It's not possible to specify in a single place that two names are aliases. Template:Infobox settlement is fully protected so you would have to make a suggestion at Template talk:Infobox settlement. It would require that {{{website}}} is replaced with {{{website|{{{official_site}}}}}}, and #if:{{{website|}}} is replaced with #if:{{{website|{{{official_site|}}}}}}. I only mentioned this as an example; I may wish to do this to other templates where it would be useful because we may want to get rid of (several) outdated templates by redirecting to a single better one - without having to rename parameters on every single article. There isn't an article drawdonkin. The place where you have written is a user page, not an article, but you should not be trying to write an autobiography, and not on your user page. There are a number of useful links on your user talk page, so you need to read those. (edit conflict) It's nice that you have these ideas in your head, but in order for us to put information at Wikipedia, it needs to appear in reliable sources not just in the mind of a single person. Most reliable sources call the current conflict the "Syrian Civil War", and so Wikipedia does as well. The Wikipedia article, and related articles, do go into some detail about the particulars you have noted. If all you care about is the title, well, then it appears we are at an impasse: The preponderance of the world's reliable sources call this the Syrian Civil War, and if most of the world is wrong, then we'll just have to be wrong with them. --Jayron32 18:06, 3 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The situation in Syria, ,Syrian civil war, falls into the first category. The article on the similar conflict in Libya within the last two years is listed under Libyan civil war. (Info)As a quick check I looked at the other language wikipedias to see what is used: French, Spanish and German all use terms which basically translated as Syrian Civil War. The Arabic Wikipedia uses something that translated (as best as google translate can tell) to Syrian Events 2011-2012. Hello, I created a new page named: 'Laban/Bartenieff Institute of Movement Studies (LIMS)'. I would like it to be found when people search for 'LIMS', since that is the name of the institution. But there is already a page titled 'LIMS' which is empty but redirects to another page: 'Laboratory information management system', so instead of getting a listing of pages containing the word LIMS, I immediately get the page of the laboratory.

Is there a way so that my 'Laban/Bartenieff Institute of Movement Studies (LIMS)' page can be found on a search for the word 'LIMS'? And if there is: how do I do that?

The current LIMS page is a valid redirect. The way to deal with your question would be to turn that page into a disambiguation page. Standard image advice follows. Be very careful if the image is one that you found on the internet.
  • If you want to upload an image from your computer for use in an article, you must determine the proper license of the image (or whether it is in the public domain). If you know the image is public domain or copyrighted but under a suitable free-license, upload it to the Wikimedia Commons instead of here, so that all projects have access to the image (sign up). If you are unsure of the licensing status, see the file upload wizard for more information. Please also read Wikipedia's image use policy.
  • If you want to add an image that has already been uploaded to Wikipedia or Wikimedia Commons, add [[File:File name.jpg|thumb|Caption text.]] to the area of the article where you want the image to appear – replacing File name.jpg with the actual file name of the image, and Caption text with a short description of the image. Special:Contributions/DHninjaman lists all your contributions except those to articles that have been deleted - only admins have access to those. The "user profile" tab in your preferences also shows how many edits you have made. Your account must be autoconfirmed (4 days old and 10 edits) before you can move pages.--ukexpat (talk) 20:24, 3 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
(edit conflict) Special:Preferences shows your own number of edits. At the bottom of user contributions pages like Special:Contributions/DHninjaman is a link saying "Edit count". I'd like to note that, aside from pages in your userspace (i.e. User:DHninjaman/something), moving pages is not something a newbie should ordinarily do. It takes some time, even after studying WP:TITLE to know what the "right" title for a page is. Often, it must be arrived at by consensus among multiple editors when there are conflicting arguments. auto un-collapse a table that is normally collapsed

I searched as hard as I could for an answer to this, with no luck.

I am trying to take a table that is normally collapsed on Climate of Salt Lake City, derived from the template {{Salt Lake City weatherbox}}, and make it 'uncollapsed' on the main page of Climate of Salt Lake City. I can see in many other uses of this box that it makes sense for the box to be collapsed as a default, but on Climate of Salt Lake City, it makes sense to have it open, especially since it is an important part of that page. According to {{Weather box/doc}}, the description for the "collapsed" parameter: "Any entry in this line will make the template initially collapsed. Leave blank or remove this line for uncollapsed."
So, the answer was to remove the collapsed parameter (which I did), not set it to "n". The best source of info is always to follow the template code itself. Second best is to look at the doc :) —[AlanM1(talk)]— 21:39, 3 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Mercy Health System

The page Mercy Health System refers to a health system in Illinois. There are many Mercy Health Systems in the US and possibly world. We are as large or larger than the one in Illinois. While I do not want to remove their listing, I would like to also have alisting called Mercy Health System. Actually, the existing article Mercy Health System refers to the one in Wisconsin. Mercy Health Partners refers to an organization in OH, PA, KY, TN, and MI. Mercy Health Plans redirects to Coventry Health Care after it acquired the St. Louis, Missouri-based provider.
If you want to create an appropriate article for your organization, the normal title that should be used if you cover just one state is "Mercy Health System (State)". Once such an article exists, you may ask to move the existing Mercy Health System article to "Mercy Health System (Wisconsin)", and for a disambiguation page to be created at "Mercy Health Systems" with links to both. —[AlanM1(talk)]— 21:51, 3 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I am revising a page with 2010 data (currently 2007 data), and would like to asterisk/note a few of the data values for extra explanation for why they do not represent 2013 figures. Is this permissible by the style guide, and what is the required format for this? In other formats, I would use *, **, ***, etc.

For reference, this is the page I am revising: Electricity sector in Canada The tables found from this point (Electricity sector in Canada#Nameplate capacity) and below will be revised, but should ideally each be appended by short notes.

What I had in mind, which might apply to the example provided by Alex B. Wolf would be: suppose you have two or more tables, each requiring footnotes, and you wanted the footnotes to independently apply to each table - with a separate {{notelist}} under each table. How can I achieve that a template I am creating places the page where it is being transcluded in a dated maintenance category? Though it might be possible that I made something like that in the past, I must have forgotten....

This can only be done by either substing to get the current date when the substing is made, or require editors or bots to fill out the date. In either case, the date must end up being a parameter to the template. See for example Template:Citation needed#Usage for how to subst the date only, or Template:Nrd for substing a template which places another template with the current date as parameter. Fischer & Wieser contribution

I have tried contributing an entry for Fischer & Wieser, and it has been denied due to notability. I have added references to further validate notability, but I'm having difficulty cleaning red mistakes in the references. Over all, I find the editing references combersome and esoteric with html coding, so there is definitely an opportunity for systematic usability improvements. The most helpful step would be a Wikipedia screener not only accepting or denying entries, but offering recommendations or actually making the needed changes if the entry still needs work.

Please look at my entry and advise and even edit it as necessary.

The references which you have "added" are not only done wrong, they are all to the proposed article itself (though they are titled "New York Times", etc.). To add a reference to an article, click on "Templates" near the top left of the window where you are editing, and fill in the relevant fields of the form that appears. In particular, fill in the "URL" field with the URL of the web page you want to cite, not the URL of the Wikipedia article you are writing. I could try to fix the problem myself, but I have no way of knowing what you are trying to cite.
The first sentence of the article is not encouraging: "[1]History In 1928, J.B. Wieser planted 100 peach trees outside Fredericksburg, Texas". It ought to state what Fischer & Wieser is. I suggest something like "Fischer & Wieser is a Texas-based manufacturer of pasta sauces". But I suspect that whatever you do, the article will be rejected anyway, on the grounds that Fischer & Wieser is not notable. Maproom (talk) 23:50, 3 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Caption problem

I have been working on setting up a gallery of photos to accompany an article. The gallery will end up with a lot of images, and each image will have a little text under it, usually about two or three lines. However, there are a few images (10%) whose images will have a bit more text, say six lines of caption text. If I include the longer captions, it causes all of the images in the same gallery row to have that same amount of space under them, even though they do not need it. That is, in each row, the vertical space for captions is no less than what is needed for the longest caption on that row.

The reason I don't like that is that (1) it leads to a lot of white space because 90% of the images DON'T need more than three lines, but 10% are forcing the gaps on each row and (2) the variation in height from row to row is visually unpleasing.

In searching for a fix for this, I came across a Wikimedia Commons page that talked about something known as a "line paramter" for galleries. It allows you to set the number of lines of text that appear under an image. If that space is exceeded, the gallery layout remains locked in place, and a scroll bar appears next to the longer caption. I'd like to try something like that, but I cannot figure out how to do it on Wikipedia. Is it possible? How?ProfReader (talk) 22:53, 3 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Managing user accounts on other Wikipedias

When I first started using Wikipedia a few years ago I set up accounts for the French, German and Italian Wikipedias, as I speak these languages and wanted to do some minor editing. Now, under the unified global account management, I have been assigned user accounts for these other Wikipedias, which are identical with my English-language one. However, I want to continue to use the original accounts I set up myself. To do this properly now I have to close my English-language account before using my foreign-language account, otherwise the foreign language account keeps defaulting to my English-language account (I hope I'm making myself clear here!), which messes up my watchlist and talk page, etc. Is there any way I can make my original foreign-language accounts the default accounts for these languages? There are enough browsers nowadays with similar functionality that you might consider just using, say Firefox here, and Safari whenever you use your foreign accounts, or some other combination. incorrect info for brain head resort

The information on the "brain head ski resort" page ia incorrect. the phone number of the resort is 435 677 2035. our business is brian head reservation center. that is the number listed as the ski resort. therefore i am getting calls for the ski resort. their address is also listed as ours. i'm unable to correct or edit the page. the marketing personnel at the resort can't either — Preceding unsigned comment added by 209.33.199.238 (talk) 23:22, 3 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
