Page view stats down

[edit]

Page view stats have been down for a few days. I imagine somewhere on WP there is an explanation. Where?--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 03:41, 26 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

It's working for me, but a little slow. The "about" page at [1] says to contact User:Henrik with questions. RudolfRed (talk) 03:44, 26 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
The last date I see at this one is July 22.--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 04:18, 26 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
[2] file sizes makes it look like page counts were not collected for a few days, but appear to be running again. Maybe the little tool that draws the graph hasn't caught up yet. RudolfRed (talk) 04:33, 26 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Henrik has not edited in over a month, BTW.--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 04:34, 26 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Works for me, but yes, Rudolph is correct -- there's a gap in the reports from 20130723-210000 to 20130724-140000 (around a day). Theopolisme (talk) 04:36, 26 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
If the raw data is out there, does that mean that the charts will eventually catch up?--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 04:38, 26 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
FOr the missing periods is the data lost?--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 04:39, 26 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Sadly, yes. Theopolisme (talk) 05:03, 26 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I don't understand why the Henrik's Page-view-stats tool works for some people, but not for others. Like TonyTheTiger, I have not been able to see stats on any wiki-page since July 22. XOttawahitech (talk) 13:57, 26 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The page-view-stats site works in some way for everyone (albeit very slowly for some) in as much as it (eventually) shows a graph with some figures. Where it fails, is that there are no figures shown for July 23, July 24 or July 25. At all. -- 79.67.244.180 (talk) 14:50, 26 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
It's failing for me ... created an article 7-24-2013, 0 views show thru today. Ok, Ihardlythinkso (talk) 16:36, 26 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
WP:HD really isn't the place to discuss technical problems, if no one can answer the question fairly quickly. The heavy-duty technical guys hang out at WP:VPT; I suggest taking the conversation there (just point to WP:Help desk#Page view stats down so you don't need to repeat the discussion). -- John Broughton (♫♫) 02:58, 27 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I wish whoever deleted those stats would replace them, Gremlin or not.--TonyTheTiger (T/C/FOUR/CHICAGO/WAWARD) 19:23, 28 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

No-one "deleted" the stats. The page views were never logged/stored/counted in the first place.
Discussion continued at WP:VPT. -- 79.67.244.91 (talk) 15:52, 29 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Do states in the Western World, generally, or one country in particular, suffer from a democratic deficit? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.85.156.168 (talk) 05:27, 26 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there, this is the Help Desk for general Wikipedia queries what may better assist you on this subject matter is the Wikipedia:Reference_desk/Humanities which specializes in topics of this nature with editors who are more skilled in it (plus you may get many more responses since those editors tend to congregate to that topic more).
Also please be more specific or give an example of "democratic deficit" since many editors are from many different cultures/nations and if they have an idea of what such a broad term may mean it may mean different things to different editors, so please elaborate and detail your question more at the Humanities Help Desk. :-) Market St.⧏ ⧐ Diamond Way 05:35, 26 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
But note that we won't do your homework for you.--ukexpat (talk) 12:44, 26 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Chemical infobox

[edit]

Hi, I need some help to tidy up the infobox on a new page I have just created - called kifunenise. Thankyou! — Preceding unsigned comment added by CarboChem (talkcontribs) 05:33, 26 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there CarboChem, I am clicking the wikilink to your contributions and it is coming back with your question here being your very first contribution?! No biggie but it is always helpful to provide the wikilink to your request here so there is never any confusion on what your asking about, you can wikilink it by copying the URL and surrounding it with [ & ] , nothing comes up for "kifunenise" on the wikisphere. Thanks and hopefully we can assist! Market St.⧏ ⧐ Diamond Way 05:40, 26 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Click "filter log" at Special:Contributions/CarboChem to see the attempted edit. The filter stopped the save because there was no submission template. I don't have time to help more. PrimeHunter (talk) 09:31, 26 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks PrimeHunter, thou there's just a lot more of nothing there. If the original poster is still out there I was under the impression that somewhere you had a draft of the article and a draft of the infobox with possible coding or other errors to fix. Its cool either way just be more clear in exactly what your needing to have resolved and a link to it.  :-). Market St.⧏ ⧐ Diamond Way 11:42, 26 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
The draft was never saved because an edit filter stopped it when the user clicked save. Click "details" in the filter log [3] to see the code of the attempted save. Copy-pasting the code loses newlines which is annoying. A parameter in the Chembox was missing }}. {{Chembox Identifiers | CASNo = 109944-15-2 should have been {{Chembox Identifiers | CASNo = 109944-15-2}}. The edit filter was triggered for another reason. The article wizard starts page creations with the code
{{subst:AFC submission/draftnew}} <!--- Important, do not remove this line before article has been created. --->
Do not remove that code. PrimeHunter (talk) 12:22, 26 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Genomandering a political ploy

[edit]

genomandering is a political ploy to import voters in a politicalconstituency — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2.223.229.191 (talk) 09:31, 26 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Maybe you mean Gerrymandering. PrimeHunter (talk) 09:35, 26 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I have one Google hit showing "Genomandering" as a word someone has coined for moving people around. It is presumably derived from "Gerrymandering" which is tweaking the shape of a constituency to give a desired result. None of the tells us what the questioner would like explained (if anything). Britmax (talk) 09:42, 26 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I guessed it was a suggestion for the article we already have. PrimeHunter (talk) 09:46, 26 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

to a persons name — Preceding unsigned comment added by Amarillenta (talkcontribs) 10:34, 26 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I titled this for you, any weblink can simply be added with [ name ] , basically putting brackets around it. Hope this answers it for you & happy editing. Market St.⧏ ⧐ Diamond Way 11:36, 26 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
That would be double brackets, not single. Dismas|(talk) 13:12, 26 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
To quote Capt. Marko Ramius "One Bracket Only, Please".  ;-) wikilinks are two. Market St.⧏ ⧐ Diamond Way 06:42, 27 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Clarification: Internal wikilinks use double squares, [[Archbishop]] rendering as Archbishop; external links use single squares, [http://archbishop.com] rendering as [4], or [http://archbishop.com Archbishop] rendering as Archbishop to avoid the numerical gubbins.--ukexpat (talk) 13:23, 26 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Appreciation ukexpat! Market St.⧏ ⧐ Diamond Way 06:45, 27 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Amarillenta's most recent contribution used WP:VisualEditor. In VisualEditor, you select the word you want to link, and then click the "chain links" icon (or press control+k or ⌘ Command+k} to enter the link tool. There is more information at WP:VisualEditor/User guide. Whatamidoing (WMF) (talk) 18:00, 26 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

If you search for "Kinnaird Castle" you get three links. The links to Kinnaird and Brechen are broken.

Thank you Michael Dietz — Preceding unsigned comment added by 184.63.21.98 (talk) 14:00, 26 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

They're not "broken", they are redlinks because no one has written articles about them yet.--ukexpat (talk) 14:06, 26 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
(edit conflict) You seem to be referring to Wikipedia page Kinnaird Castle. As ukexpat points out above, Kinnaird Castle, Kinnaird and Kinnaird Castle, Brechin are red links, which means that although links to those two pages are present at the page Kinnaird Castle, there exist no articles at the location where those two links point to. -- Toshio Yamaguchi 14:12, 26 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Protection for article ?

[edit]

hi friends!

so my boss has a wikipedia page which is frequently vandalized because of her controversial opinions. she's well known in her field and this kind of vandalism can be problematic for her organization. is there any information i can get on making this clear to wikipedia readers, or is there anything that wikipedia can do to help? please help!

thanks so much, Haley — Preceding unsigned comment added by Haleymedea (talkcontribs) 16:02, 26 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Tell us which article it is (ideally with a link) and if appropriate it may be possible to apply part or full protection to the article in question. Britmax (talk) 16:06, 26 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Article is no longer an orphan - how to get rid of box on page

[edit]

Mel Smilow

This page says it is an orpahn article. There are links to it from external sites and internally on wiki. Mid-Century modern

Thanks for your help in clarifying what helps an orphaned article. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Francescaraimond (talkcontribs) 16:42, 26 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Resolved in this edit. For future reference, all of the boxes like the orphan one need to be removed manually. Mdann52 (talk) 16:47, 26 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia's blank page

[edit]

What is the purpose of Special:BlankPage? Is it a joke? --BDD (talk) 17:25, 26 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

More than likely a dev trying to be funny at some point.... Mdann52 (talk) 17:44, 26 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Probably a play on intentionally blank page.--ukexpat (talk) 19:14, 26 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Yes. As Mdann52 said, it's someone trying to be funny. Whether they succeeded is questionable. Maproom (talk) 19:44, 26 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, it is useful for Help:HTML validation to see if errors are site or page related.--  Gadget850 talk 19:47, 26 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Mayor Michael Pizzi

[edit]

Good Afternoon,

I would like to know more about Mayor Michael Pizzi from Miami Lakes. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 184.33.222.239 (talk) 17:39, 26 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

We currently don't have an article about Michael Pizzi. Just being the mayor of such a small town is unlikely to make him notable enough for his own article. If he were to do something noteworthy outside the scope of his job as mayor, that could justify us having an article on him. See WP:POLITICIAN and WP:BIO for notability requirements for both politicians and people in general. If he fits one of those standards, then you can request an article be written about him at Wikipedia:Requested articles or you can write one yourself. Dismas|(talk) 17:51, 26 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

wessexhelicopter.co.uk

[edit]

Hi,

I got a warning when adding our website www.wessexhelicopter.co.uk to a number of Wiki Pages. We are a genuine organization looking to restore to flying condition a Westland Wessex Helicopter. Thanks to Wikipedia we have been able to link to the many Squadrons that flew the Wessex. As we look to raise awareness of our project I am looking to add our link to the external links section of the various wikipages. We would be grateful if you could allow us to continue linking our site without being blacklisted.

Kind regards,

Adrian — Preceding unsigned comment added by Wessexhelicopter (talkcontribs) 18:20, 26 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

A couple of points: firstly, you should read the Wikipedia:Username policy - names which appear to be representing organisations rather than individuals aren't permitted. Secondly, regarding the links you have been adding, see Wikipedia:External links and Wikipedia:Spam#External link spamming - it is not our policy to permit links to be added with the objective of 'raising awareness' for projects, regardless of how deserving they are. I'm afraid that you will have to find other venues to publicise your cause. AndyTheGrump (talk) 18:30, 26 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I see that Wessexhelicopter has now been permanently blocked for link-spamming, by Orangemike. Maproom (talk) 19:42, 26 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Image issues at Adrenalin Quarry

[edit]

Something is causing the image in the infobox at Adrenalin Quarry to not render correctly unless it's bracketed; is it supposed to function like that or am I just that horrible at WikiMarkup? (I've never seen an infobox that requires that) Can someone else take a look and then tell me what's going on so I have some idea of how to fix this in the future? --TKK! bark with me if you're my dog! 19:43, 26 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

So the image is a copyvio and I've tagged it as such but I'd still like to know what's wrong with the formatting. --TKK! bark with me if you're my dog! 19:45, 26 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
There is no uniformity (yet?) among infoboxes as to image coding. Some require bracketing, others don't - the other sure way to know is to check the template documentation, assuming it is documented, or by trial-and-error.--ukexpat (talk) 19:51, 26 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

User:Stiarts erid

[edit]

Hi, this user Stiarts erid has been making a disruptive edits . So far, it apparently not vandalism but in good faith. However, he (or she) seems to edit the article The Fog based from "I just don't like it." Please explaining the role of writing a summary to him (or her). If this person persist after the explanations from both the volunteer editors and you guys, then he (or she) will be reported as a vandal.--NeoBatfreak (talk) 23:51, 26 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

We're all volunteer editors, there are no "you guys". I see you've already left a note on the user's talk page, which is a good first step. RudolfRed (talk) 00:10, 27 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
After discussing your concerns with this user a WP:3 may be a next step for you, but please be diplomatic in attempting to resolve it directly first. Market St.⧏ ⧐ Diamond Way 06:56, 27 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Look I am not trying to cause trouble I am willing to settle it reasonably. I all I want to do is put in that when on the boat they all go inside then the men come out and the women stay inside. It is not unreasonable or picky as it is part of the plot otherwise it sounds they are always inside and killed there or are inside then all go outside which is also incorrect. Wikipedia is meant to be a site where you can freely edit not for edits to be constantly undone to what someone else things is better. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Stiarts erid (talkcontribs) 12:13, 27 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Please discuss the issue on the article's talk page. See WP:BRD and WP:DR for guidance. RudolfRed (talk) 17:38, 27 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
