Credit Card on your front page.[edit]

How do I go about getting a Credit Card with the company listed on your front page. I work for Clickbank and have had nothing but problems here in Canada. They will not allow pay to be put onto credit cards. They will not recoqinise this method of payment which has caused nothing but problems. I want the Credit Card on your front page this will give me access to the company I work for and help make life easier. You must make sure though that the credit card will work as a Credit card in Canada. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 184.146.136.121 (talk) 01:25, 29 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I suspect, based on your question, that you found one of our over 6 million articles and thought we were affiliated in some way with that subject. Please note that you are at Wikipedia, the free online encyclopedia that anyone can edit, and this page is for asking questions related to using or contributing to Wikipedia itself. Thus, we have no special knowledge about the subject of your question. You can, however, search our vast catalogue of articles by typing a subject into the search field on the upper right side of your screen. If you cannot find what you are looking for, we have a reference desk, divided into various subject areas, where asking knowledge questions is welcome. Best of luck. What versions of the Bible can be quoted?[edit]

I am interested in helping update a Christian page but am uncertain about which Bible versions can be quoted on Wikipedia. One website said NIV and NKJV can be quoted up to 500 and 250 verses respectively so long as this doesn't constitute 50% or so of any article, however I also remember seeing something on Wikipedia (which I now am unable to find) that said I can't use these versions on Wikipedia. Please give me a list of all Bible versions that can be used on Wikipedia, or direct me to the page where this is posted. Thank you Andolan1 (talk) 01:58, 29 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Please read WP:NOT - Wikipedia is not a collection of information. It would not be acceptable to add a large number of verses to any Wikipedia article - this is an encyclopedia.
As for what can be quoted, that depends on whether it is still copyrighted or not. The New International Version (NIV) Bible and the The New King James Version are both still under copyright, so quoting them is only allowed to the extent that this is fair use. Certainly quoting one or two verses, in a particular Wikipedia article, is fair use. Quoting 250 verses - even if appropriate here, which is not the case - would not be fair use. -- John Broughton (♫♫) 04:31, 29 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
For context, I believe the editor may have been looking at something similar to these copyright notices for various bible translations. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 18:44, 29 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Most certainly, I am not intending to quote large portions of the Bible, because this is an encyclopedia, indeed. However I've seen ASV being used and I've gleaned that ESV is PD. Thanks for posting the link, the discussion there implies that other versions such as NIV can be used within the publisher's copyright permissions. So I'll go with that. Thanks. To kill a mocking bird the film[edit]

In the plot you have that mr Cunningham gives Atticus finch a bag of potatoes. I'm actually in the middle of the movie for the hundredth time or so and mr Cunningham gives him a bag of hickory nuts not potatoes. I don't know if anyone else would find this useful but I just thought I would share.

Hi there, thanks for bringing this to our attention but seeing how this is your first edit here at Wikipedia a welcome! is in order. Couple of things on how this all works, we are all volunteers usually with a passion or expertise & sometimes both so anyone and everyone can join and be WP:BOLD in making constructive contributions that have Reliable Sources. That said you may wish to start on the articles talk page and discuss it with other Wikipedia editors if you are unsure of how to edit a "live" article, thou some editor may eventually look into this for you we also wish to let users such as yourself learn more about Wikipedia and hopefully even join the community. Quick aside, it is usually good form not to use a full name here for a variety of reasons. Once again welcome! Market St.⧏ ⧐ Diamond Way 06:57, 29 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Posting a note ("New section") at Talk:To Kill a Mockingbird (film) would be the best way for other editors to know that the Wikipedia article has an error in it. -- John Broughton (♫♫) 16:06, 29 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Talk page of a redirect[edit]

G'day all, I encountered a talk page of a redirect which had a WikiProject banner on it. What is the appropriate course of action, converting the talk page into a redirect to the talk page of the target article, or just setting the class of the talk page to redirect? (or something else...). Thanks, Peacemaker67 (send... over) 08:26, 29 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Can you point us to the article or page in question? We can go from there. Market St.⧏ ⧐ Diamond Way 08:42, 29 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Talk:15th Mounted Brigade (United Kingdom). Peacemaker67 (send... over) 08:45, 29 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Well just when you think you've seen everything on Wikipedia, interesting. First I'd place a redirect on that specific talk page to the talk page of the 4th (the article that exists on wikipedia), last option is just to blank it and tag it {{db-nonsense}} but depending on the coding and all I wouldn't try that at first since somehow the article redirect might be intertwined. Tascott[edit]

Hi, I am the great great Granddaughter of Thomas Alison Scott. Your article on Tascott says he was married to Clare Scott. His wife's name was: Maria Anne. Her grave is in Tascott. I have the historical records to show that his wife's name was not Clare. If you search other websites you will find I am correct. Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bdscott57 (talkcontribs) 09:50, 29 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

My searches say Mary Anne and not Maria Anne. I get no relevant Google results on "Thomas Alison Scott" "Maria Anne". I have changed the article Tascott, New South Wales to say Mary Anne. Thanks. PrimeHunter (talk) 10:14, 29 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

adding content to a subject[edit]

Hi,

how do I add a subject to an exiting topic?

how do I insert the reference?

thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Nettaedan (talkcontribs) 12:23, 29 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

You have added content to the article diamond cutting. What you added appeared to me constructive and appropriate. However it was then deleted by another user, who did not give any reason for the deletion.
How to insert a reference is explained in Referencing for Beginnners. Maproom (talk) 12:51, 29 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Hi there, most of what you need will be at Help:Getting started including a few items down with the Help:Introduction to referencing/1, however what your asking isn't at all the most complicated things at wikipedia. To add to a "subject" (we call them articles) simply hit edit and it is pretty simple after that. To add a reference the bottom left of the box your in should have the <ref> </ref> tags you can highlight the pasted web reference and wiki will code it for you. If you wish to add something to the article that may be contentious or debatable it is best to check the TALK page tab at the top first to see if there is an ongoing or previous discussion about what you wish to add or you may simply add it to the talk page and see if there is a conversation of its merits over the next few days prior to adding the contribution. Help replacing dead link with updated cite[edit]

Small request here. An editor recently marked a repeatedly-used citation in the article Richard Stengel as {{dead link}}. This is reference #6, a press release from when Stengel was named managing editor at Time magazine (note: although normally discouraged as WP:SPS, I believe this press release is used appropriately). The easiest thing would simply to be add an "archiveurl" parameter, like so:

Archiveurl parameter for ref #6 in Richard Stengel
|archiveurl=http://web.archive.org/web/20060524022158/http://www.timewarner.com/corp/newsroom/pr/0,20812,1194937,00.html

Last week I reached out to the editor who added the deadlink with a different solution, though he hasn't responded. Would someone here be willing to add the parameter and remove the in-line tags? I'd do so myself, except I've been making suggestions to the page on Mr. Stengel's / Time's behalf and, having this paid COI, I wish to follow Jimbo's advice to never directly edit pages. I hope someone can take a moment for this. Cheers, WWB Too (Talk · COI) 13:30, 29 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Article on Carol Friedman[edit]

Dear Editors,

RE: User:brooklyntrout/sandbox

I have been doing my best to navigate the formidable maze with regard to creating an article. I have put together a temporary page in my 'sandbox' and wanted to be sure that thus far, I have done what I was supposed to do. It is my understanding that I am in the waiting period now, but wanted to ensure that I have been compliant with protocols and that there is nothing else I need do --for now.

Thank you for your kind attention and advice..

Carol Friedman

I have cleaned up some of the formatting for you, but before you submit it for review, you will need to improve the references and do some work on the formatting of the references. Please take a look at WP:RS and WP:Referencing for beginners.--ukexpat (talk) 14:38, 29 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
And if you are Ms Friedman, you should read WP:AUTO and WP:COI and consider whether you really should be creating an article about yourself. Rojomoke (talk) 16:57, 29 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Why Delete a Draft?[edit]

I'm new to Wikipedia, and trying to learn the rules. I created an article and submitted it to be edited, and it was subsequently deleted. I'm not sure I understand why an article in draft form would be deleted, as opposed to feedback given so the writer has an opportunity to continue working on it.

Tkwalker13 (talk) 16:29, 29 July 2013 (UTC) tkwalker13[reply]

I'm assuming your draft was Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/The Lifeline Program, which was deleted because it was a promotion. I can't see the text of the deleted page, but you could ask RHaworth (talk · contribs), who deleted the page, how you could make it less promotional. ~HueSatLum 16:36, 29 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Here's a few starting hints: don't fluff up the article with cutesy stuff about meeting and feeding bears; don't call advertisements "educating seniors"; don't concentrate on marketing trivia at the expense of actual critical analysis of the product. And if you are connected to this company, for decency's sake disclose your conflict of interest up front! --Orange Mike | Talk 18:11, 29 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Changing Username[edit]

Hello,

I want to change my username from Navienamericainc to Navien America Inc. with spaces between the words. I am new to wikipedia and am very confused on how to go about this process. Can someone please advise me on this?

You should not have a username that is the same as your company name. The account needs to be for you, and you alone. See Wikipedia:USERNAME#Promotional_names RudolfRed (talk) 19:19, 29 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

How to edit a navbox[edit]

Hello, I want to edit the navbox that appears when you type {{vaccines}} at the bottom of a page to include the article Autism omnibus trial, which I created. Non-free image[edit]

This file that I've uploaded got recently tagged by a bot as being non-free use. I uploaded it because I was unable to find an image of Glacier Peak and Image Lake online that was free, and the view depicted in this image is very well-known, and is what Image Lake is famous for (see citations). I can't seem to find a suitable template for the image, however, and I was wondering if there is a suitable free-use rationale template for the image and, if not, if the image should even be uploaded at all. If there isn't any response to this, or there is no sutable template for the image, I'll probably request speedy deletion for it. --SamXS 19:34, 29 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

It does not meet the WP:NFCC (#1 specifically) because someone could go there, take a picture and release it on terms that meet Commons licensing criteria.--ukexpat (talk) 19:40, 29 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, and I've just tagged it speedy g7. However, I don't think I'll be able to take the image myself, so I'd appreciate it if someone has a private image of Image Lake that they could upload that also shows Glacier Peak. I'll file an image request shortly. --SamXS 19:54, 29 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

My new pages?[edit]

Where can I view the pages I've created? I thought there was some sort of functionality for this but I'm not seeing it.. all I'm seeing is the entries marked as "N" on the contributions page, but I'm looking for a one-stop shop to sort through all my edits. His hearse was pulled by two black stallions not one..

Hi there, much appreciation for bringing this to our attention, first I would leave a note similar to this on the article's talk page since with the sands of time your comment will be lost to the Help Desk archives. Second although it may be illogical since you seem to be a witness to the event most everything we contribute here must have WP:RELIABLESOURCES so if there is a notice in the local paper or a web archive from a media source or government, even online news videos you can choose to be WP:BOLD and add the information to the article yourself and add the web link or news source details yourself.
