Name change[edit]

How do you change the name of the person, it is wrong. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 174.62.195.169 (talk) 00:57, 17 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

If its the name of the article, the article will need to be moved. If its in the text, it can be changed with an edit. Which article are you referring to, and what is wong? WP:COMMONNAME might help, if the confusion is over "official" vs commonly known names. RudolfRed (talk) 00:59, 17 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Based on the OP's contribution, especially this edit, I suppose he/she wants to rename Joseph A. Maturo, Jr. to Joseph Maturo, Jr. --CiaPan (talk) 09:10, 17 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Date script[edit]

Can someone run a script on the dates at Tommy Amaker to put them in Month DD, YYYY format.--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 06:20, 17 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I ran the script, and it couldn't find any changes. Saved anyway. Mdann52 (talk) 07:33, 17 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Since I don't know what a script is, I may have miscommunicated. Is there a way someone can use automated instructions to convert YYYY-MM-DD format to Month DD, YYYY format. There are over 100 instances that should change.--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 07:58, 17 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
You might get a better response to this request at WP:BOTREQ, where the bot and script guys are. -- Toshio Yamaguchi 08:10, 17 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
It looks like they are all in the refs. Why do we wish to replace a logical date format with an illogical one? I accept that it is convention in the main text of articles about Americans, but I don't see the value for a change from an easily understood, consistent format to another format. --SPhilbrick(Talk) 11:12, 17 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I'll nominate this at WP:FAC and see if they accept this format. I think the Month DD, YYYY format is preferred there.--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 13:15, 17 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Template Infobox[edit]

Hello

I'm currently working on an article for a compay and want to insert a Infobox on the top at the right hand side. For the company, a German Article already exists with a Infobox. But if I copy this, I will get an error, because it is a German template. So I've tried to find an english template. I found "Infobox Company", but this doesn't work either, as I can't add new lines or delete existing lines. Can someone help me please?

Thank you and best regards Zeh C (talk) 06:21, 17 May 2013 (UTC)Zeh_C[reply]

Hi, it's not clear what you would like to do. Are the fields listed at Template:Infobox company not sufficient for your needs? Are you trying to find English equivalents for German infobox fields? Maybe a good approach is to explain what you are trying to accomplish, list the German article, and a link to the English article you're working on. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 06:58, 17 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I believe the OP is working on User:Zeh C/Verwaltungs- und Privat-Bank. MilborneOne (talk) 07:02, 17 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
It is not enough to replace the German infobox name, you need also replace names of its parameters with appropriate English names. See {{Infobox Company}} documentation for help. --CiaPan (talk) 11:05, 17 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Ethnography[edit]

Ethnography looks funny at the top of the article. I can't find the problem though. --Canoe1967 (talk) 11:41, 17 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

It looks normal to me. What do you see? What is your browser and skin? PrimeHunter (talk) 11:49, 17 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
A huge blank space between the lead and the table of contents. Is the infobox too long on the right? Vector skin (I think) and IE9--Canoe1967 (talk) 15:44, 17 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
A common problem - pictures inserted at the top of the first section after the lead. These pictures therefore have come under the (long) infobox, and the text doesn't start until then. To show what I mean, I've moved the pictures down, so the text before the pictures now appears under the lede. You can play with this further - moving pictures to the left etc. but I'm not sure the article really benefits from 2 pictures of museums - so it might be better to omit one - or move it further down. - Arjayay (talk) 15:56, 17 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Should we just throw a blind dart at the two images to kill one or ask the projects involved to sort it out.?--Canoe1967 (talk) 16:05, 17 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
This sounds like an issue for the article's talk page. Robert McClenon (talk) 16:24, 17 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Resolved

Agreed. Looks much better now and I may contact the projects later if they don't spot the changes on watchlists.--Canoe1967 (talk) 18:52, 17 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

External links Addition avoiding blacklisting[edit]

Hello to everyone.

I've received this answer while I've been trying to add external links to some topics.

"It appears you are adding external links to many different Wikipedia pages in rapid succession. This is often a sign of people spamming Wikipedia. Persistent spammers may have their websites blacklisted, preventing anyone from linking to them from all Wikimedia sites. Before you continue you may wish to review Wikipedia's policies of external links and spam as these may help you decide whether these links are appropriate for Wikipedia. Please feel free to ask at the Help Desk if you have any questions".

It's true that I've tried to link some external pages on wikipedia pages, but they are not spams. So, I would like to ask if my links will be deleted and I ask the permission to add these useful links on Wikipedia pages. In any case, I would like to avoid the blacklisting and I need help how to proceed. Thank you in advance. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Vkaramarigos (talkcontribs) 12:35, 17 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Have you read the page WP:External links? It does not look to me as if the links to altcine.com meet any of the conditions in the "What can normally be linked" or "Links to be considered" sections, but rather that they fall foul of the item "Any site that does not provide a unique resource beyond what the article would contain if it became a featured article." in the section "Links to be avoided". Others may disagree with me, though. Wikipedia works by consensus, and you have done the right thing in coming here to ask. --ColinFine (talk) 13:16, 17 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
(I agree asking here is a good place to start) The question more or less comes down to "Which is appropriate as an external link: a link to the movie on imdb.com , a link to both imdb.com and another similar site (though perhaps more geographically focused) or neither?" I have seen a few of these types of external links which are widespread, for example: imdb, iafd and afd (the last two are adult film based) (for example, Gloria Leonard. What project would be appropriate to discuss this?Naraht (talk) 13:52, 17 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I would like to add that altcine.com fulfills the guidelines of the [external link] session about “what can normally be linked”, point 3 “Sites that contain neutral and accurate material that is relevant to an encyclopedic understanding of the subject and cannot be integrated into the Wikipedia article due to copyright issues,[3] amount of detail (such as professional athlete statistics, movie or television credits, interview transcripts, or online textbooks), or other reasons.

To whom it may concern,

The story referenced in the subject/headline has a picture of Dr. Stephen Hawking with the incorrect subtitle. The picture indicates Dr. Hawking is onboard a Vomit Comet, which is inaccurate. The Vomit Comet refers to NASA's program. Dr. Hawking flew on a Zero Gravity Corporation (ZERO-G) flight as part of a fundraising effort. The correct and trademarked name of ZERO-G's plane, a Boeing 727-200F, is G-FORCE ONE.

Kind regards, Zero Gravity Corporation Media Relations — Preceding unsigned comment added by 97.102.60.144 (talk) 14:46, 17 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Please note that Wikipedia isn't here to provide free publicity, and we are under no obligation to use 'trademarked names' in articles. I have however changed the caption to a generic 'reduced gravity aircraft', to avoid any misleading implication. AndyTheGrump (talk) 14:53, 17 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I can't say I'm thrilled about the replacement, although I see we have an article with that name. It's misleading, as it doesn't reduce gravity.--SPhilbrick(Talk) 21:13, 17 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
It is true that it doesn't reduce gravity, but it is felt as reducing gravity, and so that is its name. If the name is thought to be misleading, then you can propose changing its name on the article talk page. Robert McClenon (talk) 21:16, 17 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Sadly, NASA seem to think it does reduce gravity - or at least, they describe such flights as being part of a 'Reduced Gravity Research Program' [1]. AndyTheGrump (talk) 21:23, 17 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
That isn't really wrong. Because it simulates reduced gravity, the research can be reduced gravity research. Robert McClenon (talk) 21:27, 17 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Request for Removal of a PNG Image[edit]

HI,

The below mentioned link has an image of BIMSTEC countries, in which the map of India does not represent its actual boundaries.

Bay_of_Bengal_Initiative_for_Multi-Sectoral_Technical_and_Economic_Cooperation

File:BIMSTEC_Map.png

Being citizen of India would I have an objection to the same. Supposedly the image is not showing the disputed areas between India & Pakistan and India & China as part of India, which is not right and not acceptable. Furthermore the disputed area between India and China is in Kashmir, while in this map a major part of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand is also removed. Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand lie very well within the Soverign state on India.

On account of above stated reasons I would request you to please remove the Map which shows wrong boundaries of India.

Regards.Sarabjeetpasha111 (talk) 15:11, 17 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

This sounds like an issue for the article's talk page. Robert McClenon (talk) 16:23, 17 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
It seems to me to show the same boundaries as the map at India#Subdivisions. If your complaint is about a difference between the BIMSTEC map and that one, then please write at the BIMSTEC talk page, giving details of the error. But if your complaint applies also to the map at India, then the BIMSTEC article is not the best place to discuss it. Instead, the issue should be discussed at the talk page of the India article. But please look at this first. Maproom (talk) 17:11, 17 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Please look at this site and take down. It is fabricated and is an actual attack of service members. This is not what I believe your site would want to portray yourselves as being a part of such fabricated slander. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 138.162.128.52 (talk) 18:37, 17 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I need an opinion.[edit]

Does or does not Heinz Award count as a stand alone list? Sophus Bie (talk) 19:21, 17 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

IMHO, no. There is plenty of content there about the award itself and not just the list of winners.--ukexpat (talk) 19:32, 17 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! I'm going to see if I can't manage a good article nom, then. Cheers! Sophus Bie (talk) 19:35, 17 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I think to pass GA, you'll first need to eliminate all those redlinked winners (nearly two dozen, it looks like); and get more substantial coverage from third parties. --Orange Mike | Talk 20:07, 17 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, I wasn't going to do it just yet. I just wanted to make sure it wasn't automatically eliminated. Sophus Bie (talk) 20:31, 17 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Publication of nonfiction book[edit]

Hi,

I am a writer and recently published a nonfiction book about corporate and government corruption. I would like to publish an article on Wikipedia about myself, as the author, and mention my book and it's subject matter. My book has been listed on Amazon for one month. There have been five news articles written about my story and the story has been posted on the Internet since 2008. See website: http://www.aeolusblue.net

Thanks, Wayne Pierce — Preceding unsigned comment added by Aeolusblue (talkcontribs) 20:15, 17 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Please see WP:NBOOK and WP:AUTHOR for details of notability requirements. As you have a COI you should use the article creation wizard and submit your draft for review. Ensure it does meet the notability criteria first CaptRik (talk) 20:24, 17 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Time format question.[edit]

I know that Wikipedia has had significant dicussions on date format, including tendencies to go with the style used in the geographic area that the article refers to. Does anyone know if similar discussions have been done on time? Specifically, is it appropriate in Military articles which contain timelines to use Military time and would it be appropriate for a page about an event occuring in the Philippines to use 12:00NN for noon and 12:00MM for midnight. While I'm not sure if it is official, I know that when I see 12:00NN, it is almost always in either the Philippines or occasionally Hong Kong.Naraht (talk) 21:40, 17 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
