Heading added by ColinFine (talk) 00:12, 5 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, My son is an artist and he write comic books. We don't know how to get started getting his work published, My question is what do we do? He has has received many awards for his work Can you help us? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 50.36.34.65 (talk) 23:52, 4 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I suspect, based on your question, that you found one of our over 6 million articles and thought we were affiliated in some way with that subject. Please note that you are at Wikipedia, the free online encyclopedia that anyone can edit, and this page is for asking questions related to using or contributing to Wikipedia itself. Thus, we have no special knowledge about the subject of your question. You can, however, search our vast catalogue of articles by typing a subject into the search field on the upper right side of your screen. If you cannot find what you are looking for, we have a reference desk, divided into various subject areas, where asking knowledge questions is welcome. Best of luck. --ColinFine (talk) 00:12, 5 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Want your son to become notable with his drawing talents? Do something like Jack Henderson (charity fundraiser). Sorted! --Demiurge1000 (talk) 05:51, 5 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Blocking someone[edit]

I manage Artie Kornfeld, founder of Woodstock 69 Artie Kornfeld

The below email I received that a person named Walor, keeps changing the information on Mr. Kornfeld's wiki page and he does not have authorization to do so. Is there a way to block someone from changing the content?

The Wikipedia page Artie Kornfeld has been changed on 5 May 2013 by Walor, see Artie Kornfeld for the current revision. Bbentllc (talk) 04:36, 5 May 2013 (UTC) Brenda Brown or sign in bbentllc[reply]

The removal of promotional WP:WEASEL language was needed. Neither you nor the subject of the article WP:OWN it or its content, so blocking someone else for editing it without your consent is not going to happen. Please read some of the bluelinks I provided for you, and go check out WP:COI, especially. Cheers! Heiro 04:42, 5 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

A quick clarification[edit]

Are IPs allowed to review good article nominations? Sir Rcsprinter, Bt (barney) @ 08:06, 5 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

In the lead of Wikipedia:Good article nominations/Instructions it says: "Articles can be nominated by anyone, though it is highly preferable that they have contributed significantly and are familiar with the subject, and reviewed by any registered user who has not contributed significantly to the article and is not the nominator." (emphasis mine). Then, under the reviewing section it says "To review an article you must  • be a registered user—make sure you are logged in". It's always possible this was someone who forgot to log in though.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 12:25, 5 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

edit is not a noun[edit]

Why does your your default editing message use the word "edits"? Edit is a verb not a noun. Sheesh! Yipes! And, no, I'm not logged in.

the message:

You are not logged in. Your IP address will be publicly visible if you make any edits. Please log in or sign up to have your edits associated with a user name, among other benefits. 72.253.182.31 (talk) 08:55, 5 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

From Oxford Dictionaries online:
"edit noun a change or correction made as a result of editing" [1]

Orphaned Images from Commons[edit]

Hello. I have a quick question about images uploaded to Commons. I recently uploaded File:Tree Sparrows IMG_6370.jpg (I don't know how to put the link in without the image showing) to Commons, and it was automatically transferred to the English Wikipedia. However, it is not used in any articles. Is it still liable to be flagged with template:orphan image? Passengerpigeon (talk) 11:25, 5 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Passengerpigeon, You don't have to add the orphan image template since that is for use only in English Wikipedia files. It's not even possible to add it to en wiki description page since Edit tab is not there. And files can be linked by File:Example.jpg (notice the colon). --Ushau97 (talk) 11:33, 5 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the help. Passengerpigeon (talk) 11:35, 5 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Passengerpigeon. To expand slightly on the above, images that are on the Commons are seen and can be used here natively but they are not actually here. When you go to the image page here, you are just seeing its display. Note that it says below the image "This is a file from the Wikimedia Commons. Information from its description page there is shown below." So no, it is not at all liable to be flagged as orphaned. Someone who was confused in the same way could click on "Create this page" at the local display, thinking to mark it as orphaned, but then they would see a message that said "This image is on Wikimedia Commons—not on Wikipedia. Any descriptions should be placed there", and even in the unlikely event they went ahead and created the page with an orphaned template, they would be incorrect to do so, and someone else would surely remove and/or delete it. Best regards--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 12:13, 5 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

AfD format[edit]

The format is not quite correct at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Abe Motozane. I don't understand what needs to be done to fix the problem caused by this 2nd nomination of an already deleted article. --Ansei (talk) 17:36, 5 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks to Czar -- this problem is resolved. --Ansei (talk) 00:35, 6 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I have removed your email address as it is against policy to post them here for some very good reasons. I would advise going to the Dutch(?) language equivalent though as this is the English Wikipedia. Britmax (talk) 18:04, 5 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
The question is in Afrikaans, not Dutch, and it relates to the 20th anniversary of South Africa becoming a republic.

User confusion[edit]

I don't know where is the right place to ask this, but sometimes, I might go on the Simple Wikipedia, but when I come back to English, I am on ”Darrman1“ when I got myself renamed here from that, to Darrman!? I think that would be stopped if my Simple rename request would go through, because the account still exists after rename... It happened twice to me, so if at all possible, could anyone delete User:Darrman1 and stop account creation? At least block the account if that's not possible. Or if the person who answers this knows a Simple 'crat that can finish my rename? That would fix my problems. I don't want to be blocked, so could anyone help me? Darrman (talk) 20:03, 5 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Blocking an account doesn't prevent you from logging in. Simple is still waiting for you to reply to simple:Wikipedia:Changing username#Darrman1 → Darrman. Make an edit to User talk:Darrman saying it was you who made the request at simple:Wikipedia:Changing username#Darrman1 → Darrman, and then post there saying you have made the edit. Removal of page: Gail Brady[edit]

Hi there, id like to remove a page about myself Gail Brady? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Gailbrady (talkcontribs) 21:08, 5 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

A link would help. Either way, there is zero chance that the page will be removed. We only ever delete articles on people if they're notable for one event (in which case that person's entry is redirected to the event) or if the content is libellous. Your article is neither.--Launchballer 21:28, 5 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Help please!

I would like to get this page about me removed. I already changed the details but your history shows up in google searches and now there is incorrect information about me when my name is google searched feeding from the wikipedia history. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gail_Brady

What must i do to have the page removed as it is false and the history doesn't clear competely from the internet?

Thankyou. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Gailbrady (talkcontribs) 21:30, 5 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

If some statement on the page is false, you should explain which statement, and give a published source for the correct statement. Then it will be corrected. Maproom (talk) 22:19, 5 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, Launchballer is not correct. We do delete articles all the time because their subjects are not notable - which means in Wikipedia parlance that they haven't been written about in reliable sources independent of the subject, such as newspapers. The wishes of the subject have very little to do with it: if the person is notable, there may be an article (and it is important that the content is referenced from reliable sources) and if the person does not pass the notability criterion, there may not be an article. Now Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs· FENS · JSTOR · TWL does not seem to turn up any obvious sources (note that iMDB is not considered reliable, because it is user-edited, like Wikipedia), so unless somebody can find some sources, the article Gail Brady should indeed be deleted, as non-notable. --ColinFine (talk) 22:58, 5 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
(later) OK, I have nominated the page for deletion. But if somebody else finds evidence of notability, and contests the nomination, I'm afraid your request will carry little weight. If it is retained, you should do as Maproom suggests. --ColinFine (talk) 23:03, 5 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Where is the deletion nomination? The link in the box on the article doesn't work. RudolfRed (talk) 02:26, 6 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
NVM. The link is working now. RudolfRed (talk) 05:21, 6 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

How to re-insert Infobox Office Holder on my page?[edit]

I tried to change my residence on my Infobox Office Holder and the infobox no longer appears on my page. All of the information I want included in the Infobox appears first on my page, but not in the Infobox. Can you re-insert my infobox as it is now?

Thank you, William C. Chasey — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bchasey (talkcontribs) 21:41, 5 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

In [2] you missed one of the two ending brackets in a link. I have fixed it.[3] PrimeHunter (talk) 21:46, 5 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
But please be aware of our policy on conflict of interest: what information is included in the infobox is determined by what the reliable sources say and by consensus, not by your choice. --ColinFine (talk) 23:05, 5 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
