The Ultimate Man- Musical[edit]

Your mention on Alastair King's page about the musical, The Ultimate Man. is inaccurate. It was has no association with this Alastair King. It was written by Alastair William King who added has since added his middle name to his name to avoid this confusion. Check out the website : AlastairWilliamKing .com I would appreciate this being addressed.

Who am I?

I am Alastair William King

In order to verify that you are the individual King, you will need to identify with WP:OTRS. Otherwise, you are free to edit, assuming the source is valid and reliable. Jab843 (talk) 01:29, 16 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I've removed the sentence about The Ultimate Man from Alastair King, as none of the external links that are indisputably about the subject of the article mention that among his works. Deor (talk) 14:24, 16 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I suspect, based on your question, that you found one of our over 4 million articles and thought we were affiliated in some way with that subject. Please note that you are at Wikipedia, the free online encyclopedia that anyone can edit, and this page is for asking questions related to using or contributing to Wikipedia itself. Thus, we have no special knowledge about the subject of your question. You can, however, search our vast catalogue of articles by typing a subject into the search field on the upper right side of your screen. If you cannot find what you are looking for, we have a reference desk, divided into various subject areas, where asking knowledge questions is welcome. Best of luck. I was going to see what help I could be, but then I saw you described an Articles for Deletion nomination as "cyberbullying." I have zero interest in aiding anyone who attempts to exploit a term like that. --erachima talk 09:00, 16 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I doubt that we have such a page, it would be too random. We have a page on sayings which is mostly links to other pages that have many examples of sayings. There is also another Wikimedia project Wikiquote: which may be of some use to you. SpinningSpark 14:58, 16 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Robin Williams Movie Question[edit]

I was reading about Robin Williams, and nothing was mentioned about a movie that he started in that I really liked. Some people say it was a bad movie, but it should still be mentioned. Club Paradise Thanks — Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.87.131.143 (talk) 13:09, 16 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Discus this on the talk page, Talk:Robin Williams. (If the movie isn't mentioned, and you have a reliable source, you can add it to a filmography yourself.) Robert McClenon (talk) 13:17, 16 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
It is already in Robin Williams filmography, and has its own article Club Paradise. I suspect it is not discussed in the article, as, compared to the numerous films and TV shows that Williams received nominations and awards for, it was relatively unimportant in his career. - Arjayay (talk) 13:24, 16 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Image copyright question[edit]

I'm doing my first GA review, and there is one image on the article in question I would like to have someone else verify the copyright status on. i think its goo, but just want a second opinion to be sure. Image here Thanks--L1A1 FAL (talk) 19:01, 16 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi L1A1 FAL, the image is CC-BY-SA 3.0, which is the right permission. It's production was sponsered by Wikimedia Germany, and it has OTRS permission added. The permission is perfect. -- Sincerely, Taketa (talk) 19:13, 16 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Excellent! Just wanted to be sure, figured it never hurts to have a second opinion. Thanks!--L1A1 FAL (talk) 19:18, 16 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Image use[edit]

I would like to use an image from 'Commons', but crop it to remove unwanted material. I understand how to download it and manipulate, but how do I give credit to the owner of the image? The copyright on Commons permits 'remix' so I think that I am not violating policy, just not sure how to do it. Thanks. Mdscottis (talk) 23:37, 16 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Mdscottis, I usually just upload it via commons, under a new name, and put in the desciption that it is a cropped version of the other file. What you can also do afterwards is add:
|other_versions=[[:Image:imagename|full version]]
Just replace imagename with the name of the original image (example). -- Good luck, Taketa (talk) 06:13, 17 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
It should be described as a derivative work with credit to both original author and derivative work author. File:Mud pie.jpg gives an example of how this can be presented. Note that Commons have deleted the original work for some inexplicable reason, but the example still holds. SpinningSpark 12:11, 17 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Until recently, the Commons upload form used to have an option pointing to a tool to assist with derivative work uploads, but it was removed for "security concerns". SpinningSpark 12:11, 17 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Many thanks. So helpful. Mdscottis (talk) 12:41, 17 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
User:Mdscottis there is Commons:Commons:CropTool which you might find useful. I have seen this used on numerous images. I also understand that Wikimedia Commons asks that you do not overwrite images. PNGWantok (talk) 21:15, 19 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. The two images that I annotated were my own, but thanks for the information. I would not have known that. Mdscottis (talk) 23:24, 19 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
