History of writing[edit]

I keep trying to rollback History of writing because of vandalism, but I am getting an error saying the URL is on the spam blacklist. What needs to be done to rollback the article? LongLiveMusic (talk) 08:00, 8 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Don't know whether it's my magic admin powers allowing me to overrule the blacklist or not, but I've been able to rollback the page. I'll take a look and see if I can find and remove the blacklisted link. Yunshui  08:04, 8 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for everything you do! LongLiveMusic (talk) 08:07, 8 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

picture sizing[edit]

I have uploaded the picture in the box at Bone sialoprotein but it's come out smaller than I expected. How can I fix this so that the image width matches the box? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Marcus durrant (talkcontribs) 08:52, 8 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I think I've fixed it. Check it out: Bone sialoprotein. Basically, you were using the "thumb" keyword. For these templates, you generally just need to use "File:" and then the file name. Or just the file name only. Since you're just learning your way around, it would be best if you hit "Show preview" before saving your changes. That way you can see what effect your changes are going to make before you save them. Dismas|(talk) 09:05, 8 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

picture of the day[edit]

How do I sign up to receive wikipedia picture of the day as an email? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2001:558:6014:A:6D36:5AA9:30FB:FF42 (talk) 09:48, 8 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Normally, the way to get e-mails of changes to a Wikipedia page is to set up an ATOM feed of the page and select Outlook (or whatever your e-mail client is) to display it. However, that is not so easy in this case. The POTD is transcluded onto the main page from Template:POTD protected (see Template:POTD for picture without the blurb). The correct picture is transcluded onto the page by use of date magic words so the page never actually changes and no e-mail will ever be generated. You could instead set up a feed of Wikipedia:Featured picture candidates but you will get a lot discussions in the feed as well as new pictures, so probably not very useful to you. Easier just to check the picture every day. SpinningSpark 11:09, 8 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

picture of dunstable ma[edit]

There couldn't be a bigger eyesore in Dunstable, the only property that should be renovated, it upsets me that it is now on my facebook page , why not a picture of the town hall or the gazebo in the center ? Anything but this it looks like an old shanty town , which it is not. Is there any way to change this, IU am sure all in town would agree. Regards Kathleen — Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.189.44.115 (talk) 13:28, 8 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Is this about the Dunstable, Massachusetts article? If you look at this page of potential images about Dunstable, Massachusetts, you'll see there isn't a lot of choice. Would you rather it showed a picture of your town hall, maybe? Or, you could take other pictures of your town and upload them to Wikimedia Commons (we could help you with that) to make sure there is more variety. Skittle (talk) 13:54, 8 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I don't consider myself a good judge of aesthetics; but in such a clear-cut case I have replaced the picture of the building with the ice bin in front of it by one of the town hall. Maproom (talk) 14:19, 8 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Also, Wikipedia has no control over what shows up on your Facebook page. Talk to Facebook about that. RudolfRed (talk) 18:13, 8 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Tornado[edit]

I was reading about tornados that have hit the Kansas City, MO area. I have something to add about the following tornado. F5 SW of Williamsburg to E of Raytown, MO (SE Kansas City) Franklin, KS, Miami, Johnson, Jackson, MO 0015 69.4 miles (111 km) 44 deaths - Tornado began near Williamsburg, and moved NE through several counties. Major damage occurred in rural areas near Ottawa and Spring Hill, where homes were completely leveled and several fatalities occurred. The tornado continued into the southern suburbs of Kansas City, tearing through Martin City, Raytown, Hickman Mills, and Ruskin Heights. Entire blocks of homes were completely leveled, many of which were swept cleanly away. Many businesses including a grocery store, a shopping center, and restaurants were completely destroyed. A few of the businesses at the shopping center sustained F5 damage. Vehicles were thrown through the air and destroyed, and the steel-reinforced Ruskin Heights High School was badly damaged. A canceled check from Hickman Mills was found 165 miles away in Ottumwa, Iowa.[2][3] There was a water tower next to C.A. Burke grade school in Ruskin Heights. During the tornado the winds were so strong that straw was imbedded into the steel water tower. My family and I made it through the tornado we had minimal damage to our home. I am 67 and to this day can see the tornado in my mind. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 73.42.200.216 (talk) 18:56, 8 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Todd Hunter Nagar[edit]

Todd Hunter Nagar is a place in Chennai, located at saidapet. It is Quarters for the state government staffs. It has more than thousand residents. I strongly believe there has to be an article regarding this locality in wikipedia. There are several articles of this residential area, that are being published now and then in news papers. And it just behind the metro station and near to Y.M.C.A. and the coovam river at saidapet. So please kindly consider my request and help me create a page for this location to make it a landmark in the future. https://www.facebook.com/toddhunternagarop?ref=hl — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jean El Dani (talkcontribs) 19:54, 8 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Jean El Dani. If this place is notable (i.e. has been written about in several reliable sources such as major newspapers or books from reputable publishers), then it merits an article, and you are welcome to try writing it. Please see your first article. --ColinFine (talk) 21:26, 8 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
From WP:GEOLAND, "populated, legally-recognized places are typically considered notable, even if their population is very low". The general consensus is that a reliable source merely confirming existence is enough for a settlement to have an article. SpinningSpark 21:58, 8 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
See also WP:NPLACE on this—these articles usually survive AfD. SpinningSpark 04:12, 9 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
