Hello Saimi. It is unclear from your post what it is you are seeking at this desk. This is a help desk of Wikipedia, an online encyclopedia. This forum is for asking questions about using Wikipedia. We do have a reference desk for asking knowledge questions, but your post above does not seem to contain any question at all. Can you clarify what you are seeking here? Referencing errors on The Singers Unlimited[edit]

Reference help requested. I have completely revised the "Discography" on the page for "Singers Unlimited" but I can't get the system to accept my edits of the discography section. And, I am being confused by the explanations given about a "Reference List". I have replaced all the lines in the discography that had errors in them with verifiable information from the 15 original Singers Unlimited vinyl LP records because the information on almost all the existing lines had errors on almost every line, especially with regard to dates of the recordings and the original album numbers, and the sequence of the release of the albums. I have corrected all the incorrect references with verifiable facts. But the system rejects my input saying that I have created a "reference list error". So, here are all the corrected lines that should be in the discography.

Will someone there please replace the existing lines of the discography with these lines which are all veritably accurate. I can't figure out how to use "Wikipediaese" ""reflist"".

Thanks, DanMcGarigle (talk) 02:37, 23 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Done. You had a ref tag below {{reflist}}. (I took the liberty of cutting the discography and the headings in your above message, hope you don't mind!) Best, Sam Sailor Sing 02:51, 23 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
@DanMcGarigle: (e/c) Hi Dan. Please see Help:Referencing for beginners. In short, citations to reliable sources go inside the text, directly next to the things they verify, and those citations, inside of <ref> ... </ref> tags, are collated and displayed in the references section you properly placed through the {{reflist}} template. You cannot place a citation inside of ref tags below the {{reflist}} template, which will result in an error message. Best regards--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 02:58, 23 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

American thermoplastic company[edit]

American thermoplastic company closed its doors in Pittsburgh in December 2013. The company name and its customer database was then sold to a company in Alabama. The attempted edit stating this fact was not vandalism. Average reader 2014 (talk) 03:11, 23 March 2014 (UTC) average reader 2014[reply]

Recovering history of old article[edit]

Several years ago, around 2009, I added a small, but in my view significant change to

Incompleteness of quantum physics.

I felt very good that the change I made was accepted in further development of the article.

Now the above address has been redirected to

Hidden variable theory

I very much would like to recover the history over the time I made my small change to the no-longer-existing article I contributed to.

I cannot find a way to trace back to that original article.

Can you please help me?

Again, what I'm looking for is the history of the first-cited article above. Can that be retrieved? And if so, can you give me advice on how to do it?

TDMartin (talk) 04:38, 23 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

you can track changes either by the article page history tab [1] or by your personal history tab which will take you to Special:Contributions/TDMartin. (you can get to the article page of a redirect by clicking on the blue notice at the top of the landing page that says (Redirected from Incompleteness of quantum physics).
Click on the link of the date on the left hand side and the article as it appeared as of that edit will display. -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 05:08, 23 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Help against rooming.[edit]

Dear Sirs. Is it possible to keep one semiinvalid over 25 years through rooming.

I suspect, based on your question, that you found one of our over 4 million articles and thought we were affiliated in some way with that subject. Please note that you are at Wikipedia, the free online encyclopedia that anyone can edit, and this page is for asking questions related to using or contributing to Wikipedia itself. Thus, we have no special knowledge about the subject of your question. You can, however, search our vast catalogue of articles by typing a subject into the search field on the upper right side of your screen. If you cannot find what you are looking for, we have a reference desk, divided into various subject areas, where asking knowledge questions is welcome. Best of luck. Update on Montserrat medical school: University of Science, Arts and Technology[edit]

To Whom it May Concern,

In the accreditation portion of the article it does not list that the University of Science, Arts and Technology does have multiple accreditation's. The first is ASIC which is through the U.K., second is the CAPERS accreditation through Canada, and finally that it is recognized by the ECFMG. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 50.203.13.195 (talk) 14:07, 23 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia Fiona Kimm[edit]

Recently there were questions about the photograph that I used on the 'Fiona Kimm' Wikipedia page. It was scheduled for deletion. I sent to Wikipedia the background to the use of this photograph which was as follows. The photograph was taken by the photographer, Helen Neale in 2010. Helen Neale gave me permission to use the photograph and I sent this e-mail to Wikipedia when I saw the query about the use of the photograph. Despite this the image has been removed! Can you tell me how I go about reinstalling the image which is of the person the page is about, the use of the image has been authorised by the photographer and Wikipedia was sent the information. I don't use Wikipedia frequently so any changes like this need me to travel up a steepish learning curve! Any help gratefully received.

I look forward to hearing from you. David Cooper — Preceding unsigned comment added by Wickuser (talkcontribs) 15:37, 23 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Citing a web forum[edit]

We have an established way to cite Newsgroups, through the cite newsgroup template. But how would I go about citing a post in a web forum board? For what it's worth, web forum boards (forum has no plural) essentially are an HTTP evolution of the newgroup. Yannis A. | 16:27, 23 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know where you got that, but, as far as I know, the plural of forum is forums or fora. Anon126 (talk - contribs) 17:10, 23 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Alas, too few people would understand fora, and forums is a neologism that must be avoided like the plague. This is, of course, just my opinion. Anyway, you didn't provide an answer to my question, just commentary. Yannis A. | 17:27, 23 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Forum posts are self-published sources and should only rarely be cited. If it's a mailing list which also has a web interface then you can use {{Cite mailing list}}. Otherwise you can just use {{Cite web}} with the forum name in the website parameter. PrimeHunter (talk) 19:26, 23 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia is not an advertising platform or a directory. In order to have a stand alone article about a subject, the topic must have been the subject of significant coverage by reliably published, independent sources. As someone with a conflict of interest you should not create or directly edit an article about yourself and instead wait for someone with no connection to you to do so. You can make a suggestion at the "requested article" notice board and see if someone there will create the article. Providing the reliable third party sources would be an incentive to a potential writer. -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 17:37, 23 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Question about "help:page name" example[edit]

On "help:page name" the example http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/f/f3/Pagename_explanation2.png has a caption saying, "...and the URL is http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Salvo_D'Acquisto" as an external (non-wikilink). Shouldn't it be an internal/Wikilink?

Just FWIW from an "anal-yst"! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Webistrator (talkcontribs) 17:45, 23 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

An external link with the usual external link icon seems appropriate when a URL is displayed. It's made automatically as you can see here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Salvo_D'Acquisto (click edit to see I wrote the url just like that). A wikilink would be the code [[Salvo D'Acquisto]] which produces Salvo D'Acquisto (I don't know why the example used underscore instead of space). I'm not sure why you think the example should be different but maybe Help:Link will clear it up for you. PrimeHunter (talk) 18:47, 23 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I see you posted another formulation at Help talk:Page name#Example "Pagename explanation2.png" shows an external URL to Wikipedia -- ???. That may shed more light on the source of confusion so I copy part of my reply here: "a wikilink is defined by how it's made (with double square brackets, see Help:Link), and not by where it goes. google:example is a wikilink (click edit to see how I made it). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Salvo_D'Acquisto is not a wikilink." Hiding Red Links[edit]

Is there any way I can hide red links from articles? If there is no page that exists, I don't want to see the jarring red links. I've looked through the settings and I can't find anything. Is there a CSS option I could use? Thanks, MeanMotherJr (talk) — Preceding undated comment added 21:26, 23 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Place this in your CSS:
.mw-body a:link.new { color: #000000; } /* color of red links */

Click "Articles created" at the bottom of Special:Contributions/Norden1990. PrimeHunter (talk) 23:23, 23 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, I see. That bottom line does not appear in the Hungarian-language editing interface. --Norden1990 (talk) 01:05, 24 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Right, the line is customized for the English Wikipedia at MediaWiki:Sp-contributions-footer. Nearly all customizations are only made for the default English language. It's possible to do for other language settings, in your case at MediaWiki:Sp-contributions-footer/hu, but there are hundreds of languages and we don't bother. You can see the English interface without changing language or logging out by adding ?uselang=en to the url, for example https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/Norden1990?uselang=en. If the url already has a '?' then add &uselang=en. I have made a script to do this with a click: User:PrimeHunter/English interface.js. PrimeHunter (talk) 03:04, 24 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Problems with moving an article into Wikipedia[edit]

I attempted to move an article from my sandbox to Wikipedia. The article is about the extreme endurance athlete Bill Bradley who recently set a world record. Since there is a very famous athlete/senator Bill Bradley who already has a page, I thought using the title Bill Bradley, extreme endurance athlete would be sufficient to distinguish the page.

Unfortunately, the title was inappropriate and I was not allowed to move the page. Unfortunately there does not seem to be a way to undo what I have done and try again to move the page. Can you assist with this or tell me what to do?

The url still seems to be https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Jabailey1/sandbox, though there is now a note that says the article has been redirected.

Thank you for your assistance.

Jabailey1 (talk) 22:59, 23 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The move form has a namespace dropdown box where you must choose "(Article)". However, we use parentheses for disambiguation like at Bill Bradley (disambiguation). "Bill Bradley (endurance athlete)" would work. It shouldn't be too long and "extreme" is not needed. PrimeHunter (talk) 23:28, 23 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I moved the page back, which you can do if there's no other history at the page you moved it from. I've tagged the userpage you created when you moved it to the new page for deletion. The page is now actually at User:Jabailey1/sandbox. - Purplewowies (talk) 23:33, 23 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
On the basis that disambiguating titles should be as simple as possible, I have moved it to Bill Bradley (athlete) and converted the redirect on the sandbox page to a plain wikilink.--ukexpat (talk) 18:04, 24 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I oppose that title as too generic for disambiguation here. Athlete can be used about many sports and Bill Bradley (disambiguation) shows five other athletes with articles. PrimeHunter (talk) 18:44, 24 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Opposition noted, page now back at Bill Bradley (endurance athlete).--ukexpat (talk) 20:21, 24 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I think Bill Bradley (athlete) should either be deleted or redirect to Bill Bradley (disambiguation). PrimeHunter (talk) 20:43, 24 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Especially since Senator Bill Bradley was an athlete before he was a Senator. Robert McClenon (talk) 02:06, 26 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
