False edits[edit]

Someone has made false edits to a biography

List of wars and anthropogenic disasters by death toll[edit]

In relation to "List of wars and anthropogenic disasters by death toll" It is been edited inconsiderately by adding on the top of the "Wars and armed conflicts" list "Muslim conquest in the Indian subcontinent" based on no reference and no historical events such a big change needs a good reference

Thank you — Preceding unsigned comment added by 188.55.90.104 (talk) 05:16, 6 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

An edit war is under way there. Where 188 writes "based on no reference", he is mistaken; a reference is provided for the contentious material. It is to "Growth of Muslim Population in Medieval India". However its conclusions are unclear, and are of doubtful relevance. I think someone with an understanding of history and of historical sources is needed to sort this one out. Maproom (talk) 08:12, 6 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

How to delete?[edit]

How can I permanently delete articles and file which mistakenly uploaded on my wikipedia account? pls help me — Preceding unsigned comment added by M. Ahmedullah Siddiqui (talkcontribs) 13:13, 6 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

If you'd like to delete the blank article that is currently in your sandbox, you can put {{db-user}} on the page and save it. An admin will come along to delete the page per your request. You can do the same for any page in your user space. Dismas|(talk) 13:46, 6 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
For pages in your userspace, you can place {{db-u1}} on the top of the page. The page will then be listed for deletion and an admin will then delete the page. For general pages in the article space, see Wikipedia:Deletion policy to know how to nominate pages for deletion. -- Fauzan✆ talk ✉ email 13:54, 6 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Finding an Article I Recently Wrote[edit]

I recently wrote and submitted an article for review. I believe I left out some important data such as birth and death dates. I don't seem able to find the article ("L. Royal Christensen," red-line linked from red-lined list of Lasker Award winners of 1949). How do I do this? Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.175.122.88 (talk) 15:15, 6 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Do you mean User:SALEM92/L. Royal Christensen ? SpinningSpark 15:18, 6 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Spinningspark, just curious. How did you find that? After all, the OP is an anon IP with only the above question as their only edit. Dismas|(talk) 15:23, 6 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I suspect he searched with "User talk" checked - as in this search I only usually have Article and Wikipedia ticked, but often tick the first 6 or 8 boxes when searching for something like this. Obviously this doesn't prove it, hence the question "do you mean"?, but there are only 4 matches for "L. Royal Christensen", 2 of which relate to this article for creation. Arjayay (talk) 15:52, 6 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
It's not listed under contributions from your current I/P address. So, either you are logged on from a different PC, or you have a dynamic I/P address that changes periodically. (A remote possibility is that it was so offensive your article was excised, along with it's history, but that's obviously not the case here.) I suggest you sign up to get an ID, and also make a copy of anything you write in your own namespace, as overzealous editors often delete new articles before they are completed, because they are "incomplete". StuRat (talk) 15:27, 6 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
There is no deleted article of that name which was my first guess. As to how I found it, I think I checked every namespace in the search. I wasn't particularly expecting to find it in userspace, I was expecting to find it at AFC which is Wikipedia talk space. SpinningSpark 18:23, 6 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Click "Everything" on the search page to search all namespaces. That's one of my steps to find edits a poster claims to have made. Maybe we should have a guide for helpers on how to find alleged edits. My main steps:
  1. Click "Everything" on the search page to search all namespaces
  2. Make a Google search with site:wikipedia.org to search in all Wikipedia languages
  3. Click "deleted user contributions" at top of their contributions page − only available to admins, others can try checking their talk page for notifications with red links
  4. Click "filter log" at top of their contributions page
  5. Click one or more of "Global contributions", "SUL", "accounts" at the bottom right of their contributions page to find edits at other Wikimedia wikis including Commons – assumes you have en as language at Special:Preferences, others can add ?uselang=en or &uselang=en to a url to get English interface messages, or install User:PrimeHunter/English interface.js for a one-click option
  6. Look for a page name at Special:Log/delete
  7. Admins can also look for deleted page names starting with a given string at Special:Undelete
Are there other tricks? PrimeHunter (talk) 21:57, 6 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

lies against Islam[edit]

Muslim conquest in the Indian subcontinent (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

How come this event(Muslim conquest of the Indian subcontinent) did not show up anywhere all these years and now you come up with this after the book was written by K. S. Lal published in 1973. and with this huge number of deaths 60,000,000[1] 80,000,000[1] and the reference says Historians such as Simon Digby have suggested that the estimate lacks accurate data in pre-census times.

What is wrong with you guys, you put anything just to insult Islam with whatever means you have.

I request the removal of this article and this aberration. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 87.198.33.100 (talk) 17:15, 6 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Salaam , Please signup with Wikipedia and try your hands in editing this exciting Online Encyclopedia. Coming to your question, Wikipedia has nothing to do with any of the religions, it always stresses in Neutral Point of View and so you can just chill down. The estimates as given in the book has no denial in any other books. If you could show a reliable source that puts the number below that or nullifies the claim of K S Lal, we would appreciate it. What then? You can signup as Wikipedian Editor and correct that sentence. Cheers. - Vatsan34 (talk) 17:35, 6 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
The article does not state that there were 80,000,000 deaths - it states that K.S. Lal claimed that "between 1000 CE and 1500 CE, the population of Hindus decreased by 80 million". Such numbers could be entirely due to conversion, or to simple demographic decline - this is a 500-year period. In any case, the article makes it clear that the Lal's figures are disputed. There may very well be problems with the article - we have ongoing problems with partisan editing in articles concerning the Indian subcontinent - but misrepresenting what the article says isn't going to resolve matters. And no, we don't delete articles because a single person doesn't like them. AndyTheGrump (talk) 17:37, 6 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Also, please be aware that, since the article is about the history of India and Pakistan, it is subject to discretionary sanctions under the India-Pakistan arbitration case, which provides special remedies against disruptive editing. Robert McClenon (talk) 22:01, 6 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
You don't even need to sign up to be an editor. Though IP editors, as 87.198.33.100 is, get less respect and that's important with controversial topics.— Vchimpanzee · talk · contributions · 21:23, 8 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Fabian Christopher[edit]

My Name is under Fabian Christopher ,however there happens to other person with the same name? So I need my name to read International Grand Illusionist Fabian Christopheralso I need to add photo because once again there are two Fabian Christopher one white and another black? I happen to be the black one and the illusionist.

Also I need to add more content , shows ., tours etc but don't know how the do the edit , it is confusing.

Thanks in advance Fabian Christopher international grand illusionist. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Fabain Christopher (talkcontribs) 17:29, 6 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

We don't have an article about any Fabian Christopher. We do have an article on Christopher Fabian though. You have written about yourself on your user page though which you might think is an article but it is not. And as it stands, that text would never be allowed as an article in the main space since it is highly promotional in tone and has no references to third party reliable sources which is what articles here require. I'll go ahead and put a welcome message on your talk page which may help you some more. Dismas|(talk) 17:38, 6 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, Please signup with Wikipedia and try your hands in editing this exciting Online Encyclopedia. Coming to your question, you are asking about creating an article for the illusionist Fabian Christopher, while Wikipedia already has an article for Christopher Fabian. I think the names are swapped for your would-be article and the article present here, so it won't be a problem. In case, you want an article with the title Christopher Fabian, you can add his profession or something that makes person unique next to the name in brackets, for example, Christopher Fabian (illusionist). Before starting the article, please do signup and also verify whether the person is notable. Cheers. - Vatsan34 (talk) 17:42, 6 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
@Vatsan34: please don't encourage WP:COI editors to directly edit articles. SpinningSpark 18:32, 6 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
You also seem to have made an error when creating your account - your user name is User:Fabain Christopher not User:Fabian Christopher. I suggest that you abandon this account and create a new one with the correct name.--ukexpat (talk) 18:20, 6 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Personal attack[edit]

Does this count as a personal attack? If so, what is the best place to mention it? Thanks This is Paul (talk) 18:56, 6 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I would say it does and have left the IP in question a warning notice. No reason to mention it anywhere at this time as, while the IP in question does have an extensive history, none of it is recent, for better or worse.
If they continue with the personal attacks I would leave them at least one more warning message before escalating things. At that point, you might consider WP:AIV if they seem purely disruptive, or WP:ANI if you want an admin's attention on the situation but the IP is making useful edits as well. Cheers. DonIago (talk) 19:02, 6 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, I reverted the comment from Talk:Alex Salmond, so hopefully it's just a one-off. This is Paul (talk) 19:07, 6 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I have given the IP 212.219.249.5 (talk · contribs · WHOIS) a level 3 warning about WP:BLP violations, as they had made an accusation of criminal behavior against living people in their edits to the SNP article. I think a very close eye needs to be kept on this IP. DuncanHill (talk) 19:15, 6 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
They managed to get themselves blocked for six months, so I think we can call it a day on this one. DonIago (talk) 19:41, 6 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Edit a Wikipedia Listing[edit]

How can we add our listing to this page: List of Internet stations — Preceding unsigned comment added by GraceNetRadio (talkcontribs) 23:20, 6 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The list is only for subjects with a Wikipedia article so you don't belong there. See also Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations. PrimeHunter (talk) 00:08, 7 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
(edit conflict) "you" and others related to the station should not, because you have a conflict of interest and so instead of ever editing directly about your company, you should always make suggestions on the article's WP:TALKPAGE.
The criteria for being considered to be added to that page are that the station meets Wikipedia's notability requirements and has a dedicated article about the station. That means that you would need to establish that there has been coverage of a significant nature about the station published by third party reliable sources - sources that have a reputation for fact checking, accuracy and editorial oversight, such as major news papers, peer reviewed journal entries or regular books.
If such coverage exists, the first step would be to gather those reliable sources and make a suggestion using the "articles for creation" process outlined here. -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 00:14, 7 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
