Edit problems

Hello, I just wanted to bring it to wikipedias attention that a user named greyfell is constantly changing an article about full sail university. I thought Wikipedia was an online encyclopedia that anyone can edit. So far this user thinks that he or she owns the page and he or she can only edit this. They report things like vandalism so they can continue to control editing and that no one else can. I wanted to report this so it can stop. From a look a the page history of the Full Sail University article, [1] there does seem to be a problem - with someone creating multiple new accounts to edit-war over the article. Whoever is responsible should discuss issues on the article talk page, because if they carry on like this they will find themselves blocked. AndyTheGrump (talk) 02:02, 20 April 2015 (UTC)

Edit problem

It sounds like you are not going to do anything, so you are part of the problem. Do your job and fix the full sail page and quit letting people control what ever they want. Why the heck aren't you discussing the issue on the article's talk page, which is how we resolve things here, Pepek5? You can't tell anyone to "do your job" here, because we are all volunteers and work on whatever we want to work on, whenever we want to, and we all take days off (or weeks off) whenever we feel like it. Presidents of Czechoslovakia on the Czech Wikipedia

Dear people at Wikipedia,

I was requesting correction with Czech Wikimedia, no respond. Might be you can get back to me. I was last time in 1992 candidate for Czechoslovak president, unfortunately Czech communists instead to link to me, they are linking my name with 1928 Soccer player who may not be around. I am Canadian with Czech origin and I was working hard for Czechoslovakian freedom and respect for constitutional rights. Of course that did not fit with their post communist agenda so they are afraid of me and they do not want to hear my name and my democratic moves. If you can, please get back to me.

Sorry, but this is the help desk for the English-language Wikipedia - each language version is autonomous, and we have no control over the Czech Wikipedia, so there isn't much we could do to help you. AndyTheGrump (talk) 07:21, 20 April 2015 (UTC)

Help in Edit

Please keep in mind, Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not a forum. Remember to adhere to Wikipedia's style guidelines when inserting statements in articles. It appears the information you are entering is indeed accurate and currently remains on the pages you've edited. What issue are you having exactly? Scarce2 (talk) 09:41, 20 April 2015 (UTC)

User 70.94.16.49 seems to enforce, together with Lr:Locrod (BTW, is such prefix legal in user name?), copyright information about movies in Wikipedia articles. Also by de-linking publicly available internet sites [3] (which broke the wiki-syntax of the page in this case). --CiaPan (talk) 10:53, 20 April 2015 (UTC)

There's no problem with them unlinking copyright material, Wikipedia demands that its done. I'm unsure about the addition to the articles though, sound like a public service broadcast to me, and breaches WP:SOAP - X201 (talk) 11:18, 20 April 2015 (UTC)

I have been attempting to format the edits but find that the ip/editor insists on using his own style. There is also an issue of the relevancy or need for this information, as stated above. FWiW Bzuk (talk) 18:26, 20 April 2015 (UTC)

Change the heading of a page

@DeirdreMullan: It was actually called John Barker (film maker). I have moved it to John Barker (filmmaker) since Special:Search/intitle:"filmmaker" shows this form is far more common than Special:Search/intitle:"film maker". I have just created a page John Barker Film maker and I got a notice to say that the page will be deleted as it doesn't have any references. I have put three references in but they didn't seem to work, I have now put the links in square brackets, not sure if this will help. The error messages say "Cite error: There are <ref> tags on this page without content in them (see the help page)." and in that message the words "help page" are in blue, indicating that they are a wikilink, in this case to Help:Cite errors/Cite error ref no input. If you want more info on referencing, I would recommend that you look at WP:Referencing for beginners. --David Biddulph (talk) 09:23, 20 April 2015 (UTC)

Expanding an article in the English Wikipedia by translation from a more complete and longer piece in Spanish Wikipedia.

The English article in question is "Morisco Rebellions in Granada". The Spanish one is "Rebelión de la Alpujarras". The Spanish is several times longer, well-documented according to Wikipedia standards. I consider the subject important - the final stage of the "Reconquista" and the end of Islam in Spain. I have myself been working in this field and know the literature well, including recent Spanish works not mentioned in the English version. I am prepared to do this translation myself. As it would cover, more fully, all points now in the English version, it would replace the latter. Before undertaking this work, I would like to know if this is consistent with Wiki rules. Translations from other Wikipedias are always welcome - see Wikipedia:Translation#How to translate. Many Spanish Wikipedia articles are light on referencing by en:wiki standards, but this one appears to have plenty, although they could be better formatted: Noyster (talk), 10:39, 20 April 2015 (UTC)

Agreed, definitely welcome. This sounds *perfect* for your skills and it is great when skills and desires align! I added the {{expand spanish|Rebelión de las Alpujarras}} template to the top of the article. Young Wikipedian Club?

Hi! I'm from the German Wikipedia and over there we have sort of a club for young Wikipedians (WP:Jungwikipedianer) and one of our members asked whether it is possible to build a network with other similar organizations, so I want to ask if there's a similar project in English Wikipedia too. -- Metrophil44 (talk) 14:11, 20 April 2015 (UTC)

My Organisation's logo in Wikipedia is outdated. How can I change it?

Dear Wikipedia Community, My Organisation's logo (uploaded in 2007) has changed. The logo's page reads "You cannot overwrite this file."

Could you please let me know how can I replace the old logo with the new one?

Your account needs to have made at least 10 edits to be granted permissions to upload files (you've only made 5). You could also just post a link here to the image you'd like to upload and someone can do it for you. Scarce2 (talk) 19:19, 20 April 2015 (UTC)

City climates

You could head over to Special:WhatLinksHere/Template:Weather box and check out some of the articles that use the template and see what they're doing and what they're using for sources. The template on your article looks pretty good to me. Like I said, expressing some of your concerns on the template's talk page would probably be your best option. Help:Cite errors/Cite error references no text

I have an error saying the named reference was invoked but never defined, and I have tried to figure out what is wrong by looking at the help page. I have tested to make sure the reference list is not out of order based on the order of use. The page is Jan Shinebourne, and the reference is number 4. Is there anyway you can help? In the References section, there's a line that reads <ref name="Looking In, Looking Out" />, which is attempting to retrieve a ref named "Looking In, Looking Out" which does not exist on the page. Scarce2 (talk) 19:23, 20 April 2015 (UTC)

Please add to 'Harpy' under popular culture.

Hi I was just noticing that under 'Popular Culture' for Harpy', there is no mention of the George R. R. Martin 'A Song of Ice and Fire' aka Game of Thrones books/movies and in particular the storyline section where Daenerys is in Harpy-ville. Thank you. <A Song of Ice and Fire book Five><Author George R. R. Martin> Slaver City Mereen; symbols and references and statue of the Harpy. Chapters titled Daenerys.

Hello, 162.248.39.53. If you can see a way to improve an article, you are welcome to do so; and congratulations on providing a reference. However, in my view, that does not belong there. I believe that adding something to a "Popular Culture" section is original research, and so not acceptable, unless you find an independent reliable source that talks about the fact that that story refers to harpies. Watch list questions like limit and why it freezes when it has to much, probably cause to much to upload info lol

I recently years ago had a watch list of over 30000 articles, am and then it froze and wouldn't let me upload it, is this gonna happen again ? Did they fix that issuse problem where they can maybe try find a way where it won't freeze? is there some kind of stoppage thing they put when you are trying to load to much info articles ? Umm I do edit raw watch list so that one is easier faster to load then the other one that allows you to click it's article link page, so that click page watch list one loads longer time cause I guess it has stuff attached to itself.

I now just have over 1000 so far on my watch list, I would advise anyone to copy paste it to note pad or something so just Incase it freezes or something,

Okay thanks looks like the bug fixing place, oO I kind of noticed why it didn't show my some of my watch list word topics, as the system automatically copied ones to the bottom of my raw watch list below the category ones, it suppose to usually copy it in alphabetical order, you could think it's overloaded but only got around 1000 something so far, oO and I kind of fixed it, as I copied it all and then deleted it then copied pasted it back to it, and then all the topics where in order, umm if anyone out there or you if know anyone who has watch list, can you check yours out or others one to then tell me how much your watch list limit is, and if they are all on alphabetical order, if you like, cause gotta know when the limit is reached and system won't show it anymore when you go upload it on raw watch lists, so can know limit to know when to stop, and maybe see if Wikipedia has fixed it to make it load up more watch raw list topics, cause it was years back it wouldn't load around 30000 topics, Plasma laser (talk) 18:43, 22 April 2015 (UTC)

This is my first attempt to post anything on Wikipedia and I do not want to do anything wrong. I am trying to figure out how to make a sidebar and edit this article so that it more reflects others such as Elon Musk and Albert Einstein but I am a total beginner. Adding new symbols to ordinary text to my page

I have created few symbols as small jpg images and I am looking for a way to insert these letter-size images between words in an ordinary text.These are special mathematical symbols which are not found among the Special Characters, nor among the unicode symbols.I am uploading one of the images as an example:

Normally Wikipedia articles uses a subset of AMS-LaTeX markup to produce mathematical formulae etc where normal text characters aren't suitable - see Help:Displaying a formula. I think that even if it were possible to insert images between words in the manner you describe (I'm not sure if it can be done), it might not be a good idea to do so, if it could be avoided - getting Wikipedia to display properly with multiple browsers and multiple user preferences (e.g. font size) is hard enough as it is, and in-text images look like a recipe for problems in my opinion. Is there any particular reason why you need to do it this way? AndyTheGrump (talk) 20:40, 20 April 2015 (UTC)

It also sounds like a bad idea to me. http://shapecatcher.com/ found a bunch of similar Unicode symbols, for example ⌴ ⨆ ␣ ⊔. Can you use of those? I don't know whether they are supported by common browsers but they work for me in Firefox. PrimeHunter (talk) 20:55, 20 April 2015 (UTC)

How will I know when an article I submitted will be published

Hi, I submitted an article last week and because it was my first, asked that it be peer-reviewed before publishing.

I haven't seen or heard anything since.

Is there any way to find out what is happening with my article and when or if it will be published?

Identification (again)

Again, two copies of the same image (photograph, this time) have been uploaded as if they were two different photographs of two different people. They are Arthur Godley in later life.jpg and Thomas Spring Rice, 2nd Baron Monteagle of Brandon.jpg. All help will be greatly appreciated.--The Theosophist (talk) 21:35, 20 April 2015 (UTC)

Looked and failed. The only thing I can offer is that given the photograph subject's prominent hook nose, if this artist's portrait of Godley is at all accurate then I don't think it can be the same person (I'm aware how thin that reed is).--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 23:04, 20 April 2015 (UTC)

The source for the Thomas Spring Rice one seems to provide actual details on the origin of that specific image, whereas the Arthur Godley one just uses it. The Godley one is also much lower resolution which indicates the file has some questionable history to it. Scarce2 (talk) 23:21, 20 April 2015 (UTC)
