Question About Chinese name Template[edit]

Sometimes, in Articles for Creation, I encounter a draft BLP that has the {{Chinese name}} template at the top, but the name of the person consists of a given name followed by a surname, and is thus the Westernized form of the name. Is this template appropriate in those cases? My assumption is that it is not, because it is used to alert the English-reading readers of the English Wikipedia that the name follows a nomenclature standard that is not what is normally used in English-speaking countries, not merely that the surname is of East Asian origin. (I am aware that there are other templates that identify other naming standards, such as Icelandic, Spanish, and Hungarian.) Should a reviewer remove the template in those cases? If some articles have Chinese names with the surname first, and some with the surname last, then I would have thought that the template to which you refer is useful in both cases, to clarify which is the surname in that particular case. --David Biddulph (talk) 02:10, 25 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Removal of PROD template[edit]

Hello. I wanted to know what can be done in cases where the article's creator removes the PROD template without making any changes to his article. In terms of a warning, reporting, etc. provided he has been warned several times on his userpage as well as the article's talk page. Apart from the edit war or disruptive editing, isnt it also against Wikipedia's policies that the PROD has to be contested? Pixarh (talk) 08:16, 25 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Please read WP:PROD, Pixarh. It says, in the second paragraph: "Any editor may object to the deletion by simply removing the tag; this action permanently cancels the proposed deletion via PROD." This is because PROD is for uncontested deletions - as soon as anybody contests the deletion, the PROD is disallowed. I have a "question". Why does wiki have no a comment box?? Hello Useless22123. Every article on Wikipedia has an associated talk page, for discussion about improving the article. (Sometimes the talk page hasn't yet been created, but it can be). Hello, Faeryfort. Well, done, that is a very good start for somebody new to Wikipedia: you've been doing your homework. I haven't done a formal review (I suggest you request one by putting {{subst:submit}} at the top of the article) but the thing that struck me is that the language is not (quite) neutral. Taking the sentence "His work is famous for its gritty poetic realism and examination of ordinary, contemporary Irish life" I see two separate problems with it. First, it says (in Wikipedia's voice) that his work is famous. That is not a statement that any Wikipedia article should make unless it is explicitly quoting a reliable published independent source that says so. Secondly, it is drawing a conclusion which I do not find in the two sources cited (I looked at them cursorily, so it's possible I missed such a statement in one of them; but if the conclusion is there, the article should attribute it to the source: "Watt, Morgan and Mustafa argue that ... " or some such, as well as the citation. See original research for the principle here.

A couple of details: iMDB is generally not regarded as a reliable reference, because it is largely user-generated. And in my view the list of works is too long relative to the text. Preferably enlarge the text (but only by adding new material from reliable independent sources of course), or reduce the list to a more selective ography.

One other point: I may be being over-picky, but I would suggest you forget the idea of "setting up a page for" Mercier, and substitute "Writing an article about" him. --ColinFine (talk) 16:19, 25 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I avgree with the above comments, Faeryfort. I would add, please include the publication date of your sources in the citations, using the |date= parameter whenever a date is known. Also include a page numer (|page=) or page range (|pages=) for printed sources or sources in PDF or other formats where page numbers are relevant. Having difficulty with nominating an article for deletion.[edit]

I'm trying to Nominate Bicycle cooperative for deletion following the instructions here: Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion#How_to_nominate_a_single_page_for_deletion but the templates the instructions tell me to use are not working as I expect. Could someone have a look and tell me what I'm doing wrong. I'm a reasonably experienced editor, but don't know what I'm doing when it comes to AFD. Step II says: "Replace PageName with the name of the page". In your case: Replace PageName with Bicycle cooperative. It looks like you instead replaced PageName with {{subst:Articles for deletion/Bicycle cooperative}}. I have fixed it. PrimeHunter (talk) 17:28, 25 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Are you sure you uploaded it to Commons? If you are talking about File:Faux Russell L. De Valois.jpg it will be deleted at the beginning of next month. If you're talking about another image please tell us what it is.--Aspro (talk) 20:12, 25 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Incidentally. One can not upload an image solely for use in your sandbox. It has to posses an acceptable copyright license and be usable throughout the rest of WP. If you wish, I can put a note on the image page, to the effect that the up-loader did it in error and thus its deletion is not contested, if that puts your mind to rest.--Aspro (talk) 20:26, 25 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you Kjv34. The John Prevas article could use additional sources and expansion. Can you supply any reliable source(s) that show that he taught at Thomas Stone High School? If you can, that can be added to the article. Wikipedia articles should be based on facts published in reliable sources. Personal memories are unfortunately not verifible and so cannot be cited.
