This article Arvind Iyer is full of external links that do not work and is poorly sourced. How does one clean this up?In my opinion this page needs to be deleted.kindly advice.Intelbot22 (talk) 03:20, 14 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

There are lots of cleanup tags, pick. To propose a deletion check out {{PROD}}, it's a simple no questions asked procedure (contesting a PROD is also simple.)Be..anyone 💩 03:25, 14 April 2016 (UTC) Update: No PROD after an older PROD or AfD, see below.Be..anyone 💩 11:07, 14 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Dead links are not a reason, in my opinion, to delete an article, but they are a reason to clean up the links. If you think that the individual is not notable, that is a reason to delete the article. Robert McClenon (talk) 03:27, 14 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
A previous deletion discussion resulted in a decision to keep, see Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Arvind Iyer. --David Biddulph (talk) 05:18, 14 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
The OP seems only to have edited this article or posted at talk-pages trying to get it deleted. Eagleash (talk) 06:31, 14 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Yes. The editor appears to be a single-purpose account whose purpose is to get the article deleted. The editor has already been cautioned by one of the regular editors here that their user name appears to impersonate a bot. Robert McClenon (talk) 15:46, 16 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I received the following message on my talk page:

Sir,Can you help me clean up the article https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arvind_Iyer and also look at the dead link references. In my opinion, the personal does not meet notability guidelines and request you to nominate the article for deletion.Thank You User:Intelbot22. rename request

[edit]

Please rename Talk:A Skylit Drive/Archive 11 to Talk:A Skylit Drive/Archive 1. This appears to have been created as a mistaken call to the archive bot. Thaank you.--76.14.40.2 (talk) 04:34, 14 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I moved the page to /Archive 1, however, while doing so I accidentally moved over a redirect. Hopefully, an admin will take care of that by deleting the redirect page. -- ChamithN (talk) 04:49, 14 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@ChamithN: I think /Archive 1 should be deleted as well, please see my rational on the CSD I added at Talk:A Skylit Drive/Archive 1. Rwessel (talk) 06:03, 14 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Rwessel: Yeah, that sounds reasonable. I was confused why lowercase sigmabot archived the page, even though it wasn't invoked to do so. -- ChamithN (talk) 08:53, 14 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

How to create a wikipedia page

What all i need in order to create a wikipedia page — Preceding unsigned comment added by Davidalejandra (talkcontribs) 05:56, 14 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, if you want to create a Wikipedia page, you should read Wikipedia:Your first article first, and once you've done that you should use the Wikipedia:Article_wizard to write it. 06:08, 14 April 2016 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by In veritas (talkcontribs)

Peter Jannetta, MD

[edit]

I was quite surprised to see that there is no article for Dr. Peter Jannetta from Pittsburgh, a giant in the field of neurosurgery, who died a few days ago. An article about his death is at http://www.post-gazette.com/news/health/2016/04/11/Peter-Jannetta-world-renowned-neurosurgeon-from-Allegheny-General-Hospital-has-died/stories/201604110157. You'll see in the article that one prominent neurosurgeon said Jannetta "is the godfather to almost every neurosurgeon in the world". There's also this article about his death: http://triblive.com/news/adminpage/10291036-74/jannetta-neurosurgeon-allegheny. You have an article on "Microvascular decompression", which is a procedure named after Jannetta. He was also the State Secretary of Health in Pennsylvania, but for less than a year. I'm sure you probably have thousands of requests for articles to be written about people, but Jannetta is so prominent that I thought I would mention this and hopefully someone with an interest in medicine can do one for him. I have no idea how to use Wikipedia nor any interest in trying to figure it out, but if someone could pass this on to someone who might be interested, that would be great. Thanks! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2605:A000:FFC0:D8:20CD:D02F:72C3:A7 (talk) 06:27, 14 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, you could make your request for an article to be written at Wikipedia:Requested articles. Eagleash (talk) 06:34, 14 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Would you be so kind as to place a listing in the appropriate place? Thanks so much. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2605:A000:FFC0:D8:20CD:D02F:72C3:A7 (talk) 06:42, 14 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Can someone please fix the Table in List of Republican National Conventions? At the very right, there is an "extra" column. I looked through the article code, but I cannot see where the error is coming from. Thanks. Joseph A. Spadaro (talk) 07:12, 14 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Done There were extra (empty) fields in the last entry. Rwessel (talk) 07:28, 14 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. Yeah, I could not find the problem. Thanks. Joseph A. Spadaro (talk) 08:34, 14 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, that's what it says at Peter Blake (actor). What's the problem? --David Biddulph (talk) 10:48, 14 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@McFrance: This is the information on the page and has been since 1 February 2008. What is your question? —  crh 23  (Talk) 11:58, 14 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Birth names in parentheses in intros

[edit]
Resolved

I'm having a hard time finding a guideline about this, can anyone point me to it?

I'm looking for information on whether a birth name should be included in the lead parenthetical phrase, e.g. Barbara Pierce Bush (born Barbara Pierce, June 8, 1925)...

Thanks, Dismas|(talk) 13:21, 14 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Dismas. WP:BIRTHNAME seems to say yes, in most cases. --ColinFine (talk) 16:22, 14 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, Colin! I realize now that I was concentrating my time on searches for the lead sentence and not for the element of the lead sentence that I was concerned about. Dismas|(talk) 17:30, 14 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The red text in the error message said: "Text "title:Wizards fire Randy Wittman after five seasons" ignored (help); Missing or empty |title= (help)" All it needed was to change |title: to |title=. I've done that for you. - David Biddulph (talk) 16:13, 14 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Adding an external link to an article about condo hotels

[edit]

Hi, I was wondering if I could add an external link section and an external link going to http://toscanacondohotel.com on List of condo hotels in the United States — Preceding unsigned comment added by Donnieath (talkcontribs) 16:31, 14 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Definitely not, see WP:External links. --David Biddulph (talk) 16:38, 14 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

How to access the visual editor offline?

[edit]

Dear all,

I would like to be able to prepare content for Wikipedia while being offline (e.g. traveling).

Essentially I need access to the visual editor, for instance by having access to the Sandbox or any other page while offline.

Does anyone have any advice for me?

Alternatively, I think it would be very nice if there was a Chrome app that provides offline access to the visual editor.

Thankfully,

~Robert orschiro (talk) 19:20, 14 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Orschiro: There's no reason why you can't just write the text in a text editor and then copy and paste it in at a later time when you have Internet access. You just won't have the formatting. You'll at least have the writing of the text done though. Dismas|(talk) 20:32, 14 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Help:WordToWiki states:-
"VisualEditor, the WYSIWYG editor deployed on multiple Wikipedia allows for the copying/pasting of content from Word documents into a wiki page. Most formatting is kept intact - including tables. However, images and advanced formatting will need to be cleaned up upon import".
I have no idea how well it works - like many long-term editors I avoid VisualEditor - Arjayay (talk) 20:42, 14 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Hi both, Thanks for your responses! I like the Visual Editor because of its great support to create and edit tables. This is the feature I would like to take with me for offline work to prepare tables and later paste them into articles. orschiro (talk) 07:14, 15 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I am trying to publish an article about my Band's music and talent. How do I accomplish this? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Swashin5 (talkcontribs) 20:13, 14 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Swashin5: Chances are, you probably shouldn't. Most people coming to this page and asking this question are in a band that is not notable enough to have an article. You can see the guidelines for what is considered notable at WP:BAND. Secondly, you shouldn't do it yourself because you have a conflict of interest. See WP:COI for more on that. I'll leave a welcome message on your talk page which will have a few more links to information on how Wikipedia works. Dismas|(talk) 20:24, 14 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Typography style in Wikipedia articles

[edit]
Resolved

User:D3323 has edited the article Joker venom to bold punctuation marks, such as parentheses and slashes. I've asked the user why they did so, and all I got as a reply was "What rule says I can't?" I'm pretty sure this kind of typography trickery is needless and distracting. However, I don't want to get into an edit war here. Is there some sort of Wikipedia typography convention about punctuation marks? JIP | Talk 20:15, 14 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

JIP Agree, I've reverted and left a message on their talkpage too. Joseph2302 (talk) 20:24, 14 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Please rename Talk:2014 ISIL beheading incidents/Archive 3 to Talk:ISIL beheading incidents/Archive 1 (remove the year and correct the archive number). Thank you.--76.14.40.2 (talk) 20:53, 14 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Somebody doing this should also update the MiszaBot/config on Talk:ISIL beheading incidents, it goes to archive=Talk:2014 ISIL beheading incidents/Archive %(counter)d for counter=3. I dare not touch it, the missing 1 + 2 are odd. –Be..anyone 💩 23:16, 14 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

please help with ref number 10 on this page. I cannot get it right Thanks Srbernadette (talk) 23:57, 14 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Srbernadette! I'll take a look at it right now :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 23:58, 14 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
The error message says "Check |url= value (help)". The word help is in blue meaning that it is a wikilink; it points to Help:CS1 errors#bad url which explains it clearly. --David Biddulph (talk) 00:02, 15 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Srbernadette - Fixed. You just forgot to include "http://" in the URL part of the source you were citing. All set! :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 00:01, 15 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
