[edit]

I am trying to incorporate the "rowspan" feature into a chart. The chart is located here: User talk:Joseph A. Spadaro/Sandbox/Page71#Chart 1. In the first two rows, I want the column called "Ceremony" to have a rowspan of 2. When I try it, I get an error. You can see the error/results here: User talk:Joseph A. Spadaro/Sandbox/Page71#Chart 2. What am I doing wrong? When I remove the data-sort-value="01" command, everything is fine. (See Chart #3, here: User talk:Joseph A. Spadaro/Sandbox/Page71#Chart 3.) But when I keep the data-sort-value="01" in, that seems to cause the problem. Thanks. Joseph A. Spadaro (talk) 02:28, 18 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Too many pipes?

Adding an article that has the same title as an existing article

[edit]

I wish to add an article about the Three Castles Walk in the Corvedale, Shropshire (there are various references that I can cite). There is already an article titled "Three Castles Walk" which refers to a walk in Monmouthshire. Obviously I can title my article "Corvedale Three Castles Walk". But what do I do about the existing article? It seems to me that this needs to have its title amended and then a disambiguation page ("Three Castles Walk") created. I would propose to create (when logged in) my new article "Corvedale Three Castles Walk" and then wait a while to make sure it is acceptable. Then I would change the name of the existing page and create a disambiguation page. Am I going about this the right way? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Archerbarrie (talkcontribs) 20:14, 18 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

My understanding is that a disambiguation page is discouraged unless there are more than two articles involved. Instead, there should be an article "Three Castles Walk" with a hatnote saying "for the walk in Shropshire, see 'Three Castles Walk (Shropshire)'", and an article "Three Castles Walk (Shropshire)" with a hatnote saying "for the walk in Monmouthshire, see 'Three Castles Walk'". Minor note: the normally used way to disambiguate places would be Three Castles Walk, Shropshire, not Three Castles Walk (Shropshire). Joseph2302 (talk) 20:44, 18 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
That is not the default best way to disambiguate article. An American would read Three Castles Walk, Shropshire as the town of Three Castles Walk in the area of Shropshire. See WP:Disambiguation. I think a thing at a place is usually x (y), while a place in a place is more often (but not always) x, y. Rmhermen (talk) 22:15, 18 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
The "for the..." template that Maproom is referring to is {{for}}. Dismas|(talk) 20:49, 18 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

What is the point? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tarism A2 (talkcontribs) 22:28, 18 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The point is to avoid having two identically titled articles on different subjects. Britmax (talk) 09:15, 19 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
