File names[edit]

I should like to learn how to request that a misspelled file name be corrected, thank you very much. CarloMartinelli —Preceding undated comment added 01:22, 16 April 2017 (UTC)

@CarloMartinelli: Which file? You can use {{Rename media}} if it's hosted here at Wikipedia, and commons:Template:Rename it it's at Wikimedia Commons. If we know the wanted change then we may also be able to judge the request and maybe perform the change. PrimeHunter (talk) 01:43, 16 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Reply to PrimeHunter[edit]

Dear Prime Hunter, thank you so much for your offer to help. I had begun to send a clarification but, caught by late minute doubts, I visited the appropriate page with the relevant file - which was an image - and lo! Someone had finally caught up and the wholepage was re-edited, beautifully I must say. My desired correction wasn't anything Earthshaking to be sure: an annoying misspelling. but it had been bugging me for months. Now you must know that, technically I am as hopeless as a newborn baby. Hence my cry for help. Thanks again my good fellow. Cheers. — Preceding unsigned comment added by CarloMartinelli (talkcontribs) 02:11, 17 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I have moved your reply to the section where it belongs. --David Biddulph (talk) 02:50, 17 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Live article[edit]

i can find the article i wrote only in wiki search but not in Google, Will u please help me to know what is happening with my article now ? is it been rejected ? or is there anyway to make it live to be found in google and other search engines ? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sayyidkhaleel (talkcontribs) 04:50, 16 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Sayyidkhaleel. According to your talk page, an administrator named Orangemike had to delete Ashraf Ali MA because it was too promotional. If you would like to create a draft of your article to try again, I would suggest going to Articles for Creation so you can create your draft, and, when you're ready, submit your draft for review to get some feedback on it. If the reviewing editor believes the article is ready, they will move the article out of draft status. If they don't think it's ready, they will let you know what mainly needs to be fixed and you will be able to fix it and resubmit it as many times as needed. While your article is a draft, it will be safe for up to six months from most reasons for deletion (the main exception to this is copyright infringement), but it will not be searchable on Google or other search engines. If you would like some more help, I suggest you visit the Teahouse, a page designed to answer the questions of newer editors like yourself. I have let Orangemike know about your question here, so he may leave some additional feedback here since he saw the page. Gestrid (talk) 05:41, 16 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
The language was so promotional, so fawning and adulatory, as to make my skin crawl. There is no place for promotional language and peacock words in an encyclopedia. --Orange Mike | Talk 03:30, 18 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Query related to unreviewed page[edit]

Hi, I have created a new page about a notable personality of Bhojpuri Language scholar and poet. He is well know in his field and has been honored by many accolades. I just want to know when it would be live and visible to everyone. There is a template reading Unreviewed article is given above article. Please help me with it. My article is about Manoj Bhawuk

Resolved
Hello, the page has now been reviewed. Eagleash (talk) 11:42, 16 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Ref number 14 is all wrong. I have just done it because another editor wiped off a reliable source from the UK Daily Mail - stating that this source was not acceptable! Is this a fact? Please fix if able. Thanks 101.182.60.171 (talk) 06:16, 16 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Seeing as it is not yet 2107 that would be your problem. Fix that and you'll be fine. And while you are there fix the other parameters as well. Like publisher which contains a copyright statement and the date of publication. --Majora (talk) 06:25, 16 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, the Daily Mail is a generally unreliable source, and thus should not be used. RileyBugzYell at me | Edits 08:03, 16 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
See this discussion about the Daily Mail. Eagleash (talk) 09:16, 16 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

on line 5 of this page there is a strange diagonal line in front of the words Elmete Hall. should this line be there? 101.182.60.171 (talk) 08:43, 16 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

It was a typo, I've fixed it. Thanks for bringing it to our attention. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 08:53, 16 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Fixing column widths in a table/chart[edit]

Please see the table/chart below. Why exactly is the left column "fatter"/wider than the right column? (And, significantly so, I might add.) According to the computer "code" (or mark-up, or whatever it's called), both columns should have a width of "300px". What is wrong? And how do I make both columns the same exact width? Thanks. Number of Scheduled Executions
2017 22
2018 9
2019 9
2020 6
2021 2
Total 48
What you've done is made the entire table 300px wide:
! colspan="2" style="background-color:#A8E4A0; width:300px;" | Number of Scheduled Executions
|-
| 2017
| 22

Whereas below makes each column 300px wide.

! colspan="2" style="background-color:#A8E4A0;" | Number of Scheduled Executions
|-
| style="width:300px;" |2017
| style="width:300px;" |22

Thanks. Hmmmmmmmmmmmm. So, I only have to do that for the first row (the 2017 year row)? And it then follows suit for all subsequent rows (2018 year, 2019 year, etc.)? Is that what you did with your code? Thanks. Joseph A. Spadaro (talk) 17:39, 16 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
See Help:Table#Width.2C_height: To specify the width of a column one can specify the width of an arbitrary cell in it. TigraanClick here to contact me 17:56, 16 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Edit Count[edit]

This is the third time I have tried to check my edit counts to find that they are 0 and my first edit is post-dated to Dec 31, 2099, 12:00 AM - any idea why this keeps happening? Sometimes it displays normally and sometimes it goes back to this weird post-dated version Seraphim System (talk) 15:13, 16 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

There are many edit counters at Wikipedia:WikiProject edit counters. I guess you refer to https://tools.wmflabs.org/xtools-ec/?user=Stuartyeates&project=en.wikipedia.org. It currently says Dec 20, 2004 for me. It's an external tool maintained by volunteers and the xTools are known for being unstable. Special:Preferences is fast and reliable but only gives the total number of edits. PrimeHunter (talk) 20:07, 16 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Second account created due to forgotten password - Help moving histories, talk, etc.[edit]

Hi. I have opened a second account, owing to the fact I stupidly didn't add an email address to my first account (ClivePIA), and then forgot the password. I am told it is possible to move things like histories and talk pages from an old account to a new, but I can't work out how. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. CliveAnd (talk) 15:22, 16 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@CliveAnd: User contributions Special:Contributions/ClivePIA cannot be transferred to another account. It would be possible to move the two pages User:ClivePIA and User talk:ClivePIA and their page histories to the new name but the pages don't contain much so I suggest you just manually copy any parts you might be interested in. The pages can be redirected to the new name, or you can write on the pages that you are the same user. PrimeHunter (talk) 16:26, 16 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

How do I remove this from the internet

http://deletedwiki.com/index.php?title=Hayley_Angela_Gilbert — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2606:6000:668B:FF00:410E:CE13:4649:C493 (talk) 15:23, 16 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The website User:2606:6000:668B:FF00:410E:CE13:4649:C493 asked about appears to be using the ip address 192.185.103.222 which in turn is allocated to WEBSITEWELCOME.COM of Houston, Texas. It has nothing to do with Wikipedia. Jc3s5h (talk) 15:34, 16 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
It's a website that copies articles we delete from here, so it has sort of to do with us. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 16:18, 16 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
It did, but there's nothing we can do about it now, and no way to control where that site gets its material. And to answer the question "How do I remove this from the internet", looks like you can't, not easily. The site "http://deletedwiki.com" give no info, no access, and no contact information; the "about us" and "privacy policy" links just lead to "that page does not exist".
WHOIS gives the name of the site owner as "Contact Privacy Inc." so they are obviously obfuscating who they are. There are contacts given for Contact Privacy Inc. so you can write or call them. I wouldn't expect much satisfaction, but you never know. Herostratus (talk) 18:03, 16 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
(edit conflict) You don't. The Wikipedia help desk answer to that is that Wikipedia has little if any control about what other internet websites do. A more useful answer though is that when you try to remove information from the internet, it often ends up being counterproductive (in particular, the Wikipedia Help Desk is somewhat widely read, so posting here a link to information you want to hide as much as possible is not a great idea). If you really want to try your luck (which I advise against), a WHOIS request will not give any email address to contact the webmaster of deletedwiki.com, but it will give an address at 5005 Mitchelldale Suite #100, Houston, Texas, United States. Admin blocked[edit]

An admin blocked me because he thinks that I was involved in a revert war. The truth is that the other person deleted whole of my article without discussing the issue with the article. Thus I reverted it. I feel that he behaved in a biased way. What should I do? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 223.176.241.180 (talk) 19:31, 16 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

What you should do is avoid adding sockpuppetry to edit warring. Your user talk page tells you what to do if you wish to appeal a block. --David Biddulph (talk) 19:37, 16 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

One more Sandbox?[edit]

Hi there. I have two sandboxes. I need to add some more formulas but they are fairly full now. So, I wonder if someone will set up another sandbox for me with the ending sandbox3 in the web address? I do have one more sandbox that ends with "/" but I am sort of reluctant to use it, I am not sure if it something I can use. Thanks, --AboutFace 22 (talk) 22:59, 16 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@AboutFace 22: Actually, you can create your own sandbox. If you type in to the searchbox "User:", then your username with a "/" after it, and then whatever you want your sandbox to be called. Then, you just have to start the page. For example, if I wanted to create a sandbox, I would type in "User:RileyBugz/sandbox2". Hope that helps. RileyBugzYell at me | Edits 23:02, 16 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@AboutFace 22:, here is your User:AboutFace 22/sandbox3. As Riley says, it's very easy to create yourself, and you can have as many as you need Jimfbleak - talk to me? 06:19, 17 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you very much both of you. It might take me a long time to exhaust this new sandbox. I hope I will not forget your instructions by that time if I need another one :-). Thank you again. --AboutFace 22 (talk) 13:48, 17 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
