Trouble with alignment[edit]

Hello, I have been trying to align a table ("Applicant Statistics") located at Georgetown University#Admissions so that it appears below Template:Infobox US university ranking and on the right hand side, but am not sure how to do this. Hello, Khachik Gevorgyan. I'm guessing that this refers to User:Khachik Gevorgyan/BetConstruct? Articles with that name have been deleted five times over the past year, for various reasons. On a quick look, your draft looks a reasonable start, but I haven't looked at it carefully or evaluated the references. I suggest you submit it for review, by inserting {{subst:submit}} (with the double curly brackets) at the top. When somebody reviews it (which might take a few weeks) they will either decline it and give you advice how to improve it, or they will accept it and move it to mainspace. --ColinFine (talk) 10:35, 7 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The "alt right" page is entirely biased[edit]

Many pages about the right wing on Wikipedia are disgustingly inaccurate and biased.

The alt right page claims that the alt right is a loose group, which it is, but also claims that in favours white nationalism. Some alt right people are white nationalists, many are simply patriots. It also claims that the alt right is homophobic and anti-Semitic, despite the fact that some of the alt rights' biggest leaders are gay and Jewish, for example Milo yiannanopolous or Ben Shapiro.

The pages about the left/right wing and right wing politics are woeful aswell, and any edits I have made have been removed.

Wikipedia is being used as a tool for people pushing a left wing political agenda and misrepresenting their opinions as facts.

I ask that you review and restrict the pages about left/right wing politics and take a historical view as to what left and right wing actually mean, rather than forcing a leftist agenda. Hello, Samuelallen2002. Wikipedia articles are required to be a neutral summary of what the reliable published sources say about a subject; we don't always achieve that, but that is what we are aiming for. There is no editorial board: all decisions are made by consensus, according to our policies. As I am sure you realise, this is a highly controversial subject, with strong feelings on different sides. The place to make suggestions for improvement is the Talk page Talk:alt-right; but I urge you to read through the long history of discussions already on that page and its archives before you wade in. --ColinFine (talk) 13:21, 7 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Also to bear in mind that all Wikipedia does is cite and summarize professionally-published mainstream academic or journalistic sources, without elaboration nor commentary. "Neutrality" does not mean that we create equal amounts of (artificial) validity for all viewpoints, it means that we give each view point due weight in proportion to their prominence in sources. We also require users to assume good faith from others, which is rather hard if one assumes that there's some sort of conspiracy force a leftist agenda. The owners may have given the photos to you, but they probably have not transferred ownership of copyright. It would be much better if the photographer uploaded the pictures to WP:Commons and provided the appropriate copyright declaration. Logos are usually copyright so it would not be wise to upload them, but in some circumstances it might be appropriate to use one in an article under WP:Fair use. While properly licensed photos are often welcome to add to articles, please be aware that Faculty of Medicine, University of Kelaniya is Wikipedia's article, not yours, and it is absolutely not your job to edit and update it. It is Wikipedia's page about the faculty, and Wikipedia is only interested in what people who have no connection with the faculty have published about it in reliable places, and hardly at all in what the faculty or its members have said or want to say. Please read our advice for editors with a conflict of interest, and restrict yourself to suggesting changes (preferably with references to independent sources) on the article's talk page. --ColinFine (talk) 13:27, 7 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Cite template for leaflets and signage[edit]

I suspect that any one of {{cite journal}}, {{cite magazine}}, or {{cite news}} will be the best fit because with those, |title= is rendered in upright font and quoted:
{{cite journal |title=Leaflet Title |publisher=Museum |type=Leaflet}}

Trappist the monk Thanks, I ran into this issue while introducing a new user to WP. It's the first time I've had a face-to-face meeting with anyone about WP, I'm feeling quite pleased as I turned an IP editor who "dumped" a lot of unsourced content into an article into a registered editor and gave her a few pointers for future editing. She brought along a handful of leaflets from a local museum as sources for expanding the article about my hometown. She also photographed signage in the museum which I hope can also be cited. William Oke - Add two images[edit]

Greetings, I would like to improve the "William Oke" page by adding two photographs that depict William and his wife, Sophia. I do not know (1) the copyright approval process by Wiki; (2) the criteria for what makes an acceptable graphic/image; (3) how to crop or size the image as needed for posting; and (4) how to code the page to actually present the image on the page and in an appropriate location on the page.

I have identified the photograph of Sophia Oke that might be approved by wiki as copyright ok. It is located here: http://www.iwm.org.uk/collections/item/object/205380974

I believe it is restricted to non commercial use, and if so @Klossoke, it is unavailable for use on Wikipedia, as it is not licensed with a free license that may be used on Wikimedia Commons, where (almost) all photos and videos used on Wikipedia are held. You may wish to visit the copyright village pump at Wikimedia Commons to ask for more help on this (as it may possibly be in the public domain if it is old enough). How to indicate that a book chapter is "in press"[edit]

Thanks for the ping, X201. My involvement with that article was limited to removing some text that had been copied from other websites, and unfortunately I don't know anything about the subject, so I don't know if I can be of much assistance on the substantive front. As for the Wikipedia policy question, if the source in question hasn't yet been made available to the general public, it sounds like it wouldn't meet Wikipedia's definition of a published work, and as such we wouldn't be able to use it in the Grand Challenges for Social Work article. I assume the book in question is Barth, Richard; Macy, Rebecca. "Grand challenge of Ending Family Violence". Grand Challenges for Social Work. New York: Oxford and NASW Press.? Hello. The short answer is no; donating to Wikipedia has no quid pro quo with suppressing banners. Alternatively, logged-in users may suppress the banners by going to Special:Preferences, clicking on the "Gadgets" tab, and ticking the box next to the statement "Suppress display of the fundraiser banner." This will also suppress the smaller banners advertising other Wikipedia events. While you're at it, you can also tick the box next to the statement "Suppress display of Central Notices." Don't forget to click on "Save", which is right at the bottom of the page. As I said, you'll have to login to do all this. Come back here if you need more assistance. Thanks. uploading a photo onto a page[edit]

Hi, I just tried to upload a photo - File:Violin bow fibula .jpg - onto the fibula page, in order to provide an illustration of the referred-to "violin bow fibula", mentioned in the Bronze Age Fibulae section, and was not allowed to do it.

Hello, David Van Vleck, Jr.. Your attempt to add the image to Fibula (brooch) failed only because you got the syntax wrong, including the prefix "File:" twice. I have corrected it. I suggest you expand the caption a bit.   • If you want to upload an image from your computer for use in an article, you must determine the proper license of the image (or whether it is in the public domain). If you know the image is public domain or copyrighted but under a suitable free-license, upload it to the Wikimedia Commons instead of here, so that all projects have access to the image (sign up). If you are unsure of the licensing status, see the file upload wizard for more information. Please also read Wikipedia's image use policy.
  • If you want to add an image that has already been uploaded to Wikipedia or Wikimedia Commons, add [[File:File name.jpg|thumb|Caption text]] to the area of the article where you want the image to appear – replacing File name.jpg with the actual file name of the image, and Caption text with a short description of the image.
