How to enable two factor authorization if not admin

How do you enable Two factor authorization on wikipedia if your not admin Flow 234 (Nina) talk 00:35, 10 January 2017 (UTC)

You can't.

More specifically, if you go to Special:Two-factor_authentication, you'll see that it is limited to users in one of the groups: Administrators, Bureaucrats, Oversighters, Checkusers, Edit filter managers - so unless you became one of those, you cannot use it at this time. 86.20.193.222 (talk) 01:24, 10 January 2017 (UTC)

PROBLEM WITH AN ARTICLE I WROTE

The user name which created that page was Xess34 (talk · contribs)} - as seen in the history.

The account was made on 6 October 2008, not 2007.

If you set an email address, you can request a password reset at this link: Special:PasswordReset

If you can't remember the password, and did not give an email address to request a new one, then you're out of luck - there's no way to prove that you're the same person.

Trouble logging in on an iPad

Hijiri88 (talk · contribs) here. For the past week or so (first noticed on the morning of January 1) I've been having trouble logging in on my iPad Mini, which is the main device I use to contribute. It's not got to do with my internet connection or IP, since I have the same problem when connected to my home broadband, but don't have a problem on my phone or laptop. Every time I try to log in, I get a red error message that reads There seems to be a problem with your login session; this action has been canceled as a precaution against session hijacking. Go back to the previous page, reload that page and then try again., but obviously when I follow that directiom I have the same problem. Anyone else have such problems? @EMAgain: You should drop that haughty tone ("Wikiguardians", "linger in your drafty limbo"). It also doesn't read much like an encyclopedia article, and is almost completely unsourced. And why do you call him "Frederick Burkle" here while the draft's title is "Skip Burkle"? Expecting other users to take responsibility for it by mainspacing it in its current state is asking too much. organization page deleted

Hi,

I've been updating our company's Wikipedia page (Intertrust Technologies Corporation) and now a bot has deleted the entire page all of a sudden. I recently updated our page with neutral language explaining our products and tried to add a lot of independent sources so I really wasn't trying to write a promotional text. Can someone help me undo the deletion and help me prevent it from happening again?

The page was not deleted by a bot, a real live person moved the page to draft. You can find the draft at Draft:Intertrust Technologies Corporation. - GB fan 12:40, 10 January 2017 (UTC)

How to use an email as Permission of Proof?

So I am currently working on an article for a video game and I needed photos for the article. I got into contract with the developers via email and they gave me specific permission to use some images, also via email. What do I do to prove that I have permission, because I can't copy a link to an email? UN$¢_Łuke_1Ø21^Repørts 13:25, 10 January 2017 (UTC)

See WP:DCM and WP:COPYREQ. In essence, the developers need to contact Wikipedia's OTRS team and licence the images under a CC-BY-SA licence (and demonstrate their understanding that this does not limit the use of the images to Wikipedia, but allows anyone to use them free of charge for any purpose). You can't licence the images on their behalf, and they cannot give permission to use the images only on Wikipedia. Yunshui ^雲_水 13:30, 10 January 2017 (UTC)

The "subst" doesn't belong there. Merely place the {{cite web}} template between the ref tags in the article. I've removed the subst in this edit. --David Biddulph (talk) 13:46, 10 January 2017 (UTC)

@Bigbossfarin: Your attempt to subst {{Internetquelle}} didn't work because the template was inside <ref>...</ref> tags. This is a known bug which has tripped up many editors; see Help:Substitution#Limitations. -- John of Reading (talk) 14:10, 10 January 2017 (UTC)

Do I need to do any more?

The Kingston and District Sports Hall of Fame article was recently proposed for deletion and it was decided to merge it into Rogers K-Rock Centre instead. Since I am the one who pointed out the problems with the article in the first place, I decided that I might as well do the merge. I have added a paragraph about the hall of fame in the K-Rock article and put a note about it on the talk page. Do I need to do anything about the original hall of fame article or will that happen without my interference? Leschnei (talk) 14:07, 10 January 2017 (UTC)

I believe this image is usable on Wikipedia. Am I right?

Hi! I've been working on an article about Louis B. Seltzer, long-time editor of the Cleveland Press, and I'd like to add an image of him to the infobox in his article. I found a good one at The Cleveland Memory Project, which is run by a local university and features a large collection of old photos from the Press. The paper has been out of business for decades and The Cleveland Memory Project's blanket copyright statement seems relatively "free," requiring only an attribution, but I'm not sure. Looking through Wikipedia's big mass of information about copyright felt like sinking into a quagmire of legalese, so I decided to ask you all! Should I treat this image of Seltzer, and the many other photos in the collection, as I would a fair-use image? In other words, should I only use them sparingly, like to illustrate an article about a long-dead individual? Or can I use them more liberally, sprinkling them throughout articles about Cleveland, as I would a free image? Thanks in advance for your help! Bobnorwal (talk) 16:08, 10 January 2017 (UTC)

"The Michael Schwartz Library at Cleveland State University allows reproductions of materials from Special Collections for the purposes of research,scholarship, teaching, news reporting, criticism, or comment"
is not IMHO compatible with our requirement that materials be available for any purposes, including commercial reuse. So you should treat this a a non-free image. Rojomoke (talk) 17:03, 10 January 2017 (UTC)

notice template for updating a section

We are in the process of updating a section of the wp:mos, specifically the 'In article text' section of WP:CANSTYLE. Is there a template I can put at the top of the section to indicate it is being revised, with a link to the discussion? The tpl:Proposed doesn't seem to be an exact fit. Thanks in advance. Image looks wrong

At 300px

At 348px

At 400px

The box on the right side of United States presidential election, 2016 shows a map with who got how many electoral votes. Fourth in the list of seven vote-getters reads "Spotted Eagl." Not "Spotted Eagle." I thought it was a mistake in the image, but if I click on the "i" to get the image, I go to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:ElectoralCollege2016.svg and see that it really does say "Eagle." Why does the image look different in the article from how it looks by itself? "Eagle" is the rightmost word, so does the box just cut off the right edge of the image? 208.95.51.72 (talk) 22:01, 10 January 2017 (UTC)

I think that, as you say, the edge of the box cuts off the end of the name. It's not easy to check, as the map is included via a template and I've not been able to find the actual map. But I suspect that the map is an SVG image, and so may render differently from the original version after going through Wikipedia's magic process that shrinks the images displayed in articles. So the whole image is in fact there, but the SVG text has been mis-rendered and goes off the edge of the image. Maproom (talk) 22:18, 10 January 2017 (UTC)

The poster already said it's File:ElectoralCollege2016.svg. You can get there by clicking the blue circle with "i". It's an SVG file which means software rerenders each component when it's scaled. Here it goes a little wrong at 348px. The space betwen the letters vary and "l" is at the right edge leaving no room for "e". PrimeHunter (talk) 22:35, 10 January 2017 (UTC)

So they did. I've edited the image to use a recommended font "Liberation Sans" instead of "Helvetica Neue". This has fixed the problem, as you can now see to the right, though it does leave more blank space than necessary at the right edge of the image.
