Jennifer Crouse - Mary Anne Arsenault Curling[edit]

Hi There, I've been trying to edit the Jennifer Crouse link in both the 2009 Scotties tournament of hearts, 2010 Scotties tournament of hearts and mary-anne arsenault Canadian curler Wikipedia page as it currently links to a US basketball player that is not the right Jennifer crouse. I would be happy to provide an edit for the correct Jennifer crouse with resources from worldcurl.com and nscurl.com. What do I need to do to correct it? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 47.55.125.140 (talk) 00:04, 14 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

There seems to be no existing article for curler Jennifer Crouse. My recommendation is to create an article for her, specifying in its title that you are referring to the curler. (Basically, I recommend creating Jennifer Crouse (curler).) Then, edit the incorrect references you've found, so that they link to the correct page.

If you do not have enough information to write a whole article about her, or even a stub, you could either:

  • edit the incorrect references as described above anyway, leaving the link as a so-called red link as it is above, or
  • simply remove the [[ ]] brackets so that there is no link at all

I have unlinked all three from the basketball player. MB 00:41, 14 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Why isn't volume= LVIII bold?[edit]

cite journal|volume= LVII is bold, but volume= LVIII is not. See T. Paterson Ross reference named "Notes and Comments by "The-Man-in-Action"". Thanks. Trilotat (talk) 00:42, 14 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Trilotat, the Template:Cite journal, which has been used in the article, always displays any Volume field that is of four characters or less in the bold format. Just for the sake of maintaining a common reference format, for now, I have bolded LVIII in the article. Thanks. Lourdes 00:50, 14 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I have undone that pursuant to Template:Cite_journal#COinS. This is a known issue and someday, cs1|2 will accept apostrophe markup in metadata source parameters. There is not good work-around because everything that is in |volume= goes into the metadata.
Trappist the monk (talk) 01:08, 14 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I think that's a sensible revert. Thanks for pointing that out. Lourdes 01:13, 14 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I have converted the Roman numerals to Arabic. I'm satisfied with that. I hope it's within the rules here. Trilotat (talk) 03:41, 14 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

How do I add an info box and photo to draft I have?[edit]

Is there "code" I can add to page that will create an info box and allow photo?

This is page I'd like to add it to. Draft:Michele Ragusa

Thank you. Parplaywright (talk) 01:02, 14 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The infobox and picture are icing on the cake. You need to concentrate on establishing whether the subject is notable enough to merit an encyclopedia article about her, which you have so far failed to do. If you fail to do that, having an infobox and/or a pic in a declined draft would be the quintessence of futility. --Orange Mike | Talk 01:40, 14 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Actually I have been told that the article already proves notoriety and just needs birthdate and info box orangemike. Your comment didn't answer my question and clearly you didn't look at the comments from reviewers or the history of this article. Parplaywright (talk) 02:37, 14 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Parplaywright: You can find a list of Infoboxes here. Select the most appropriate one and place the mark-up at the top of the article. Complete as many of the fields as possible but it is not essential to complete them all. If you are to add a DoB to the article this has to be reliably sourced. On another note it is correct to say that the latest review asked for this to be done before acceptance.
Please reply at this page, in this thread; there is no need for a new section when posting a response. Eagleash (talk)

Thanks so much Eagleash. So very appreciated. I will look at the link you suggested and find the appropriate infobox. The challenge is that most actresses do not want to give their real age so trying to get birthdate and cite it is a challenge. But thank you so much again. Parplaywright (talk) 03:21, 14 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Parplaywright if you cannot reliably source a particular bit of information (age or birthdate) then just leave it out. It's better to be silent than wrong, particularly in a BLP. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 06:29, 14 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
BTW the lack of a DOB is not a valid reason to decline acceptance of the draft, I'm afraid we have some inexperienced AFC reviewers who are not following the proper workflow. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 09:45, 14 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

AfD/MfD on meta?[edit]

If a page is on meta and I decide to propose deletion, where is the procedure for doing that? --Guy Macon (talk) 03:25, 14 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

How to remove sanctions on an article[edit]

Or where to ask an admin to do it♣Crewcamel (talk) 04:20, 14 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Lourdes, I don't think Crewcamel is talking about page protection. I think they are talking about the top header on Talk:United States presidential election, 2020. ~ GB fan 11:08, 14 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
GB fan thanks for the note. Crewcamel, you can directly contact Ks0stm, the administrator who placed the sanctions on the page mentioned above, to discuss the same. Thanks. Lourdes 13:05, 14 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

To report an inappropriate edit on the 'Indira Gandhi page'.[edit]

The name of the Prime Minister Indira Gandhi has been changed to 'Indira Gandhi harmzadi' by the user  Chewings72. The word 'harmzadi' is an inappropriate word. Hence it is my humbel request to you to please remove it as it misguides viewers and also insults the person. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 117.198.176.6 (talk) 12:14, 14 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

That word was added by an unregistered editor. Chewings72 is the editor who removed it. Maproom (talk) 12:44, 14 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, anonymous user who reported this. Thank you for noticing it. Because Wikipedia may be edited by anybody, it is subject to a lot of minor vandalism, which is usually quickly noticed and reverted. If you see such things again, please feel free to edit the article and remove them; or if you don't feel confident doing that, each article has a Talk page where you can suggest changes. --ColinFine (talk) 14:41, 14 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Problem With Punjabi Wikipedia Source Editor[edit]

Error in Punjabi Wikipedia Source Editor

Hi Wikimedians, I need some technical help. There is a Problem with Punjabi Wikipedia Source Editor, When we are creating a new Page it shows "Publish Page" instead of "ਸਫ਼ਾ ਸੰਭਾਲੋ" and "Publish Changes" instead of "ਤਬਦੀਲੀਆਂ ਸੰਭਾਲੋ". If any one Knows the solution to this Problem, then Kindly inform me. If it is a work of administrator, Please let me know how to fix it. Thanks --- Baljeet Bilaspur (talk) 14:45, 14 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Baljeet Bilaspur. I'm afraid that the different-language Wikipedias are entirely separate projects, with no common organisation. You would need to ask the administrators at pa.wikipedia. I'm afraid I'm not sure how to get a message to them: on en.wikipedia you can contact the adminisstrators via WP:administrators' noticeboard, but I don't know if there is a corresponding page on pawiki. --ColinFine (talk) 18:39, 14 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Baljeet Bilaspur: "Publish page" is a new message replacing "Save page". It hasn't been translated to Punjabi yet at translatewiki:MediaWiki:Publishpage/pa. A translation there will eventually affect all MediaWiki installations in Punjabi which import translations from there. Until then Punjabi administrators can create a local message for the Punjabi Wikipedia at pa:MediaWiki:Publishpage. Note that per translatewiki:MediaWiki:Publishpage/qqq it's supposed to convey that the result becomes public right away. In English it's "Publish page" instead of "Save page" but hasn't been implemented yet at the English Wikipedia and may be controversial. "Publish changes" can be translated at translatewiki:MediaWiki:Publishchanges/pa and pa:MediaWiki:Publishchanges. PrimeHunter (talk) 20:27, 14 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Google Search Results[edit]

Hello. I created a new topic/page. It is called Charlie Heat. I want to be able to have the wiki page link high in the google search. Currently, when i search in good, the wiki page doesn't even show, although when i go to wikipedia, it does show when I search there. please give direction. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Whitwins (talkcontribs) 15:51, 14 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I believe that normally, new articles are blocked from indexing by web crawlers (such as Google's) for a month after creation. Others know more about this than I do, and will doubtless elaborate.
Note that, regardless of what you want, Wikipedia specifically renounces "promoting" anyone or anything, and is therefore not concerned about google-search prominence. {The poster formerly known as 87.81.230.195} 2.122.60.183 (talk) 16:11, 14 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
(edit conflict) This question has already been answered at the Teahouse. Please don't post questions to multiple desks. Why is it important to you to promote that particular person. Are you here to write an encyclopaedia or to promote a person? Dbfirs 16:14, 14 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
(edit conflict) I believe it will not show up in search engine results for 30 days or until it has been marked as reviewed, whichever is the shorter period of time. In the meantime the page needs some work as it currently appears to be written from a fan's point of view and is not really encyclopedic. Eagleash (talk) 16:20, 14 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

template for edit summary when reverting[edit]

I just reverted an article (Pilas) that had been vandalized a couple of edits ago, and I cobbled together an edit summary that sort of resembles ones I've seen before. It occurred to me that there is probably a template that would do a better job with the edit summary (along the lines of, 'Reverted edits by username1 (talk) to last version by username2'), but Help:Reverting only said that there is one for administrators. Is there a template that non-administrative editors can use? Leschnei (talk) 17:27, 14 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

If you revert a single edit with the "undo" link then it automatically suggests an edit summary. It's sometimes possible to revert consecutive edits (not necessarily by the same user) with undo but then there is no automatic edit summary. Twinkle has a feature to restore an old version with an automatic edit summary you can optionally add something to. Rollback (restricted access) can quickly revert consecutive edits by the same user with an automatic summary you cannot change. You make a single click and the rest is automatic. PrimeHunter (talk) 20:07, 14 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks @PrimeHunter:, I've looked at Twinkle (even turned it on once!) but it seemed to have too many ways that I could get into trouble. Leschnei (talk) 20:59, 14 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
