Move image?[edit]

I embarrassedly mispelled the name of an uploaded file, which is here.

File:Sonic_the_Hedghog_2_HDitle_screen.png

Can anyone move the image to its proper name, File:Sonic the Hedgehog 2 HD title screen.png. The Egg of Reason | (Talk) 00:14, 10 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@EggOfReason: I've added a {{rename media}} template, so an admin or "file mover" should move the file for you before too long. -- John of Reading (talk) 18:40, 10 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Outdated article about me[edit]

This is an article about me: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Daniel_Springer/sandbox It is outdated. I plan on writing a new one. Please delete it.

Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dani Springer (talkcontribs) 02:20, 10 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Dani Springer: That page is in your userspace, it is not an article. If you wish to delete it, place {{Db-G7}} at the top of the page and an Admin will delete it for you. Before you create a new page about yourself, autobios are pretty strongly discouraged on Wikipedia. Please see WP:AUTOBIOGRAPHY for more information. Wikipedia articles are based upon what has been written in mainstream reliable sources by persons without a connection to the subject. If you are notable (see WP:NOTABILITY) in the Wikipedia sense, in due course Wiki may very well create an actual article about you. Thank you. Eagleash (talk) 02:30, 10 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Since it's your user page, you are free to simply edit it to entirely remove its contents. This is simpler than deletion and subsequent re-creation, since it's completely under your control. -Arch dude (talk) 13:51, 10 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
    • @Arch dude: Yes, emptying a page is actually easier and faster than requesting deletion and recreating the page, BUT... it preserves the page history, which sometimes may be not desired. --CiaPan (talk) 14:03, 10 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Reporting hounding[edit]

Where do I report a user for WP:HOUNDING? Can you familiarize me with the process? Thank you. Tarook97 (talk) 03:04, 10 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Tarook97. The section Wikipedia:Harassment#Dealing with harassment gives various options, of which WP:ANI is one commonly used to report such incidents. However, may I caution you to be perfectly sure about any hounding occurring, before taking up such a report? If the issue is emanating from the recent issue at WP:AN/3RR, that is not hounding. I would suggest that you should just get on with editing, while reducing contentious additions to respective articles – or in fact, ignore the said articles and edit other articles. Wikipedia is a large repository and you'll find many articles to improve. Please feel free to ask for any clarification here (or on my talk page if you are unsure of disclosing details here). Thanks. Lourdes 03:23, 10 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

(Edit conflict) hate hounding. WP:ANI is your best bet. If the user is following you from place to place run the names through http://tools.wmflabs.org/sigma/editorinteract.py and link the results page in your complaint. If your hands are clean you may be able to secure at least a 1 way IBAN or maybe a block depending on how strong your evidence is. If you post your evidence to my talk page or give me a link to your sandboxed evidence I'll take a look for you before you go to ANi. You need to be very careful hecause ANi can bommarang and you get sanctions. Legacypac (talk)

That's quite unnecessary; the user is me, and there is no need for Tarook97 to prove I periodically check their contribs; it is obvious I do so and I am happy to admit it since I do so for the legitimate purpose of "fixing unambiguous errors or violations of Wikipedia policy, or correcting related problems on multiple articles." They are a persistent edit warrior (just back from their fourth block, I think, of two weeks), which is an unambiguous violation of Wikipedia policy.
Of course at some point in the future they may learn the lesson, but I don't hold out much hope given that they were barely half a dozen edits in after the block ran out before, er, reverting again the thing they got blocked for reverting repeatedly (and of course even if I never looked at their contribs I would have been perfectly aware of that fifth revert because I watchlist the page in question). Pinkbeast (talk) 04:02, 10 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Sure Pinkbeast. I understand your viewpoint. Every editor makes mistakes. Tarook has also made mistakes and has been provided feedback of the same. I would suggest extending a helping and guiding hand again to him. If he continues the mistake, he'll obviously be sounded off. But that doesn't necessarily mean he would continue in the same mode right now. No harm assuming good faith. Cheers. Lourdes 04:31, 10 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Page name title change[edit]

Resolved
 – Lourdes

Hi, Our orgnaisation has recently changed it's registered name. We would like to change the name on the organisation's Wiki page to reflect our current status. I have read help pages but I am still unclear of the process. Could you please advise how to change the page title?

Regards — Preceding unsigned comment added by BSARNSW1 (talkcontribs) 04:17, 10 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Done. Lourdes 04:36, 10 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you. But could you expand the NSW to 'New South Wales'. Regards — Preceding unsigned comment added by BSARNSW1 (talkcontribs) 04:44, 10 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hello again. Could you please provide a reliable source that says so? Your organization's website mentions the name as NSW only. Further, before you edit your organization's page any further, please immediately read WP:COI and WP:Paid editing and do please comply with the requirements mentioned therein. Warmly. Lourdes 04:50, 10 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Seem to have page vandalism[edit]

SwisterTwister ‎edited and removed content from page under false claims. The page was Rocky Mountain Performance Excellence. No prior content can be found due to the way in which SwisterTwister deleted the content. Please help by blocking this person. We now have to totally recreate the page to get past review. Djgilbert (talk) 04:18, 10 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Djgilbert, welcome to Wikipedia. SwisterTwister has not made any fault in assessing and rejecting your draft (and neither has SwisterTwister deleted your page). The page Draft:Rocky Mountain Performance Excellence was deleted by an administrator because it seemed to be an advertisement rather than an encyclopedic article. I can request the deleting administrator RickinBaltimore to provide you the content in your draft space. But you most necessarily need to read WP:ORG, Wikipedia's notability guidelines for organizations. Your article about the organization will have to meet WP:ORG before being included on Wikipedia. In short, you would need multiple reliable source that discuss the organization significantly, to stake a claim for inclusion on Wikipedia. The organization's own website does not qualify as a reliable source; neither do press releases or blogs. Please feel free to ask more clarification here if something is not clear. But first, do please read WP:ORG. Warmly. Lourdes 04:46, 10 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
To be fair, I wouldn't be comfortable in restoring the draft at this time, as it would require an almost complete rewrite to remove the promotional tone in the previous draft. You're of course welcome to rewrite the draft, but please, as Lourdes said above, take the time to read WP:ORG to learn about what makes an organization notable. Also, I'd recommend reading WP:NPOV, which is our policy on neutrality, and how an article needs to be written from a neutral viewpoint. RickinBaltimore (talk) 12:52, 10 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

How To Write An Article[edit]

Hiee! I am a new user, and i am very much confused while using wikipedia. Can anyone please tell me step by step where can i write a wikipedia article on any company or person. — Preceding unsigned comment added by DHWANI BARCHHA (talkcontribs) 10:22, 10 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, DHWANI BARCHHA. Welcome to Wikipedia. Don't be discouraged: Wikipedia is a huge and complicated beast, and can take a long time to learn. Writing a new article that is accepted is one of the harder things to do on Wikipedia, and I always advise new users to spend some time improving existing articles first (we have millions of articles, and most of them could do with some improvement!). I suggest you start by taking The Wikipedia Adventure, and then read Your first article. --ColinFine (talk) 11:02, 10 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

How do I correct incorrect information in Wikidata?[edit]

In the article for Joanne Conte the date of birth that appeared in the person data in the article when it was migrated was incorrect (1993 instead of 1933). I'm not sure how to correct it. Can you help me? - Scarpy (talk) 16:18, 10 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Scarpy: I think there's nothing to do here. Following the "Wikidata item" link from Joanne Conte takes me to d:Q16197628 where the date of birth is correct. The history of the Wikidata item shows that it was imported before the article's Persondata was damaged. -- John of Reading (talk) 18:35, 10 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@John of Reading: that makes sense. thanks for helping me out here. - Scarpy (talk) 19:16, 10 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Contents and headings[edit]

How do I create the contents section and headings for each section on my wikipedia page?

Thanks! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Elliepupwork1996 (talkcontribs) 16:20, 10 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Elliepupwork1996: Hello, I have added headings for those sections already in existence + Refs & ELs with this edit and this one together with some other style fixes (ndash for date ranges and no caps for occupations etc). The table of contents will now generate automatically. Hopefully that will set you on your way. Please see WP:REFB for a guide to adding references and WP:RS for deciding upon what constitutes a reliable source. Oh, please don't refer to Wiki pages as 'yours' – that's a bit of a 'no-no' on Wiki., (see WP:OWN). Good luck. Please return if you have further queries. Thank you. Erik Stocklin actor article possible vandalism[edit]

Erik Stocklin (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

On the Erik Stocklin actor Wikipedia page, a user named Jameslawrence19 constantly changes the birth year of the actor to 1989, when in fact, he was born in 1982. Other editors have added sources to the article to show the correct birth year (1982) but Jameslawrence19 changes it back to 1989 with no sources. I don't want to get into an edit war with Jameslawrence19, but I don't know what to do. I left Jameslawrence19 a message on his talk page, and a message on the article talk page. The only contributions Jameslawrence19 has are to the Erik Stocklin page. You can check the revision history of the Erik Stocklin article to verify this. Do I keep changing it back? I really want to work on this article but I don't know how to avoid an edit war. Thank you Paige Matheson (talk) 16:35, 10 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Paige Matheson: No, please don't get into an edit war with the other editor; this can land you in difficulty, irrespective of the merits of the changes. You should engage with the editor concerned at the article TP or their own TP – which you have done, seemingly without response. As you say, it looks like a single purpose account which is a concern in itself, but it is a very new account, so assuming good faith, the editor may not be familiar with how things are supposed to be done. If they continue to add unsourced material (edit-warring in the process) and do not engage with other editors then the situation could be reported at the edit warring noticeboard or if felt sufficiently serious at WP:ANI. Eagleash (talk) 17:51, 10 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you Eagleash. I'll try to watch the page and if the user continues I'll bring it up at the edit warring noticeboard. Paige Matheson (talk) 17:58, 10 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Note The page has subsequently been protected, for a week. The other editor's account may have enough edits and longevity not to be affected by this, but it will stop the similar raft of edits by an IP. Eagleash (talk) 03:58, 11 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Please help me to find out why a page was deleted and possibly help restore it[edit]

Guidance would be much appreciated. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Crusader2004 (talkcontribs) 20:40, 10 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Crusader2004: This is the only edit by your account. It's impossible to say why a page was deleted when you have given no clue which page it was. Wikipedia:Why was the page I created deleted? has some general help. PrimeHunter (talk) 21:00, 10 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Wrong Picture[edit]

The Picture of the American politician, Brian Dansel isn't a picture of him, but instead it is a picture of his 2013 opponent John Smith. Can you change the picture that comes up when this name is searched for? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 199.136.49.114 (talk) 21:28, 10 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, there is no picture at Brian Dansel's Wikipedia page. If you are referring to the results of a Google search (as here), Wikipedia has no control over what is displayed there, although Google's way of displaying the information often implies that it comes from Wiki. There is a feedback link at the bottom of the panel where the image is displayed. Eagleash (talk) 21:37, 10 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
