Someone keeps putting fake information on Dakota Ridge High School Page[edit]

One of my friends thinks its funny to mess around with my schools website on wikipedia, and keeps adding fake information. I want it to stop, I've already reverted the page. Any way to ban him from editing?

(Look at old page history to see his edits, which you can obviously tell are fake.) — Preceding unsigned comment added by IJake15 (talkcontribs) 02:32, 7 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The school year begins, and the vandalism resumes. If the vandalism continues at that article, feel free to request semi-protection at Wikipedia:Requests for page protection. In the meantime, please do not place irrelevant user-warning templates on the article's talk page. RivertorchFIREWATER 04:55, 7 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I have added a file - but it should be in another info box at the top of the page right hand side (I think!). It should have the heading at the top of the box of "Lord and Lady Airedale" too I think - or Albert Kitson with the words Lord Airedale underneath - according to other similar info boxes of British Nobility with the list underneath with "Born" and "Died" and "Education" and "Spouse" etc in the box with the photo. I don't know how to create this. Please fix if able. Thanks Srbernadette (talk) 04:20, 7 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The article currently has no infobox. What you want to add is Template:Infobox noble. You can see all of the possible fields at the template page. Just copy it, paste it in at the top of the edit window at Albert Kitson, 2nd Baron Airedale, and fill in the relevant fields, including the file information for the image. (It may be helpful if you look how it's done on another article and use that as a template.) Don't forget to remove the standalone file name, otherwise the image will appear twice. Adding photos from other language versions of Wikipedia[edit]

Greetings! I was editing the article on Alfredo Bruto da Costa, and have been unable to get the image of him that displays on his Português Wikipedia article to display properly on his English Wikipedia article. Is there a way to display photos from other language versions of Wikipedia on articles on the English Wikipedia?

Thanks in advance! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Yohan Anthony Sunanda (talkcontribs) 05:14, 7 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

You can't directly use an image that's on a different Wikipedia. You may be able to copy it to Wikipedia Commons, and then use that version. Whether this is allowable depends on the copyright status of the image: most Wikipedias are less stringent about copyright than Commons is. I've tried to check the copyright status of this image, but my understanding of Portuguese, and of the media viewer, isn't good enough. Maproom (talk) 07:06, 7 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Hello Yohan Anthony Sunanda. Why I am not a Portuguese speaker, Portuguese is close enough to languages I can speak that I can gather from the big disclaimer in pt:Ficheiro:Alfredo_Bruto_da_Costa.jpg was taken produced by ABdC's party that retains some copyright over the photograph. This would make it ineligible to transfer to Commons, because it is non-free content. However, I believe it could be uploaded to en-wp; you need to check the image satisfies all of the Wikipedia:Non-free content criteria (I think the real difficulty is #1: if there is another photo, even of a lower quality, that is free, you should use that instead). If so, go to Wikipedia:Upload and follow the steps (and then, include the photograph with the usual syntax of linking to its name, see Wikipedia:Image tutorial).
As a side point (it does not apply there, but you may want to keep it in mind for future cases) the usual understanding of WP:NFCC #1's ...or could be created... clause is that it forbids the use of non-free photographs of living people (since someone could always go photograph them - I think it would not apply to a exceptions such as prisoners in North Korea, but it would likely not apply to any public figure in the Western world). Requesting to enter the school name in the list.[edit]

Dear sir,

We are running an international school @31, watarappola road,Mount LAVINIA.But, our name of the school is not visible in Wikipedia site.please be kind enough to enter the name in your website. The details are as follows. Name -Najaa international school Category -international school Province/District -Western /colombo — Preceding unsigned comment added by 175.157.36.43 (talk) 06:36, 7 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

You could make a request at Wikipedia:Requested articles/Applied arts and sciences#Education. (Please read the instructions at the top of that page before proceeding.) However, before making such a request, you should be sure that the subject meets either the notability guideline on organizations or the general notability guideline. It's very important to understand that Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not a directory of schools (or of anything else). We don't allow articles about things just because they exist. What is your question? CTF83! 18:40, 7 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi everyone, I have re-submitted article under Article For Creation. I prepared it considering all Wikipedia guidelines. Can any editor review to check if present article meets Wikipedia policy. If it passes please approve it. If there is any problem, help me to fix it. Thank you so much.--150.242.197.120 (talk) 15:54, 7 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I doubt that a reviewer will accept the draft, because it lacks citations of reliable independent published sources with in-depth discussion of the subject. I have checked all the references, and find that
  • 1, 2 and 12 are based on statements by Kesari, and so not independent
  • 3 and 13 are based on statements by other employees of the business, and so not independent
  • 4, 8, 10 and 11 are lists of award-winners, with no discussion of the business
  • 5 and 9 are business listings, with no independent discussion
  • 6 is "sponsored content", i.e. an advertisement paid for by the business, and so not independent
Only 7 is, marginally, acceptable in helping to establish that the business in notable. But I doubt that it will be enough. Maproom (talk) 17:40, 7 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

wikipedia reference[edit]

when using wikipedia as a reference, does it go into the regular reference section or in a seperate section?Ramesty (talk) 16:03, 7 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Are you referring to adding a reference TO Wikipedia, or using Wikipedia AS the reference in something you're writing elsewhere? This is a help desk for issues within Wikipedia itself. PureRED | talk to me | 16:06, 7 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Ramesty: Please do not use Wikipedia as a reference, I.e. for verification within a Wikipedia article, it is not an acceptable reliable source. See also WP:UGC. Eagleash (talk) 16:37, 7 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Um, I'm trying to write an article in my sandbox, and the Embarq page has some info on him.Ramesty (talk) 16:55, 7 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
You shouldn't use Wikipedia as a reference. You should use the references in Wikipedia as references. RJFJR (talk) 17:20, 7 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

You can create it at any time, when there is enough relevant, sourced info to justify a page. CTF83! 18:42, 7 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Popup survey[edit]

Wikimedia received an email mentioning a pop-up which used the term "work house coinage".

My current guess is that they have a malware problem unrelated to Wikipedia but I thought I'd double check here on the chance we are doing some survey I don't know about.--S Philbrick(Talk) 20:03, 7 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

2018 in baseball[edit]

Can you move the 2018 in baseball article from the talk to the draft article please. 2600:8803:7A00:976A:15E2:9CE2:F4BD:AC4 (talk) 21:31, 7 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I don't see any purpose this empty placeholder serves in September 2017 for 2018 events that have not occurred. Wikipedia is not a crystal ball. I have tagged the talk page for deletion under CSD G8--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 22:06, 7 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
