Redirect Issue[edit]

I am a wikipedian who edits in malayalam wikipedia. There were 2 existing templates namely ഫലകം:Requested move and ഫലകം:പേരുമാറ്റുക. I recently deleted all the contents of the template ഫലകം:പേരുമാറ്റുക and I redirected that template to ഫലകം:Requested move. But currently, in the pages that were linked to ഫലകം:പേരുമാറ്റുക is showing the message REDIRECT ഫലകം:Requested move and not the contents of the template ഫലകം:Requested move. I tried to clear the cache of both the templates but in vain. Please note that the word ഫലകം means template in english. Adithyak1997 (talk) 07:24, 22 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The question has already been asked at Wikipedia:Teahouse#Redirect issue – please answer there. --CiaPan (talk) 07:32, 22 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I need to change the page name[edit]

Hello! There's a mistake in the name at title of my faculty (must be "Faculty of Engineering Management", but instead we have "Faculty of Management Engineering"). Link: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Faculty_of_Management_Engineering,_Bialystok_University_of_Technology On the following link you can check that it is the official name in English: https://wiz.pb.edu.pl/en/faculty/ . I've tried to change it myself, but unfortunatelly I've failed. Maybe you can help me?

Thank you in advance! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jessica Eugenia (talkcontribs) 08:15, 22 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

To block my username[edit]

Hi, please do you can tell what I have to do for the block of my username? Thank you --Frullatore Tostapane (talk) 08:26, 22 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • What do you mean, Frullatore Tostapane? That user account has never been blocked, and neither can I see anyone suggesting it would be in your contributions. Do you have another account, and if so, under which username? TigraanClick here to contact me 08:29, 22 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
    • Yes, I want to know the proceeding for the request for to block my username in Wikipedia in english, I have another username and I want to close it, thanks--Frullatore Tostapane (talk) 09:42, 22 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
      • You don't need to have the name blocked, you can simply stop using it. 331dot (talk) 09:46, 22 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
        • ... But I do not want any more to declare it... (sorry for my english that is very bad!) ;-D --Frullatore Tostapane (talk) 09:55, 22 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I think you may be talking about something like this (WP:RTV) - X201 (talk) 10:00, 22 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
PS and I do not will use it anymore, it is Aviator7712, I have declared it in my user page here [3]--Frullatore Tostapane (talk) 10:02, 22 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Courtesy vanishing is only done if the user is not returning. If you intend to use another account, you can't be given a courtesy vanish. 331dot (talk) 10:04, 22 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I gather that you just want to use a different username; you should have just requested a username change per the instructions at WP:CHU. Then there is no second account to declare. 331dot (talk) 10:06, 22 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I dont want vanishing, or a different username, I want to block my sockpuppet Aviator Frullatore Tostapane (talk) 10:13, 22 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Even if it was blocked, that would not remove your need to declare it. I really think your best bet is to just stop using it. 331dot (talk) 10:23, 22 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

how to get your wikipedia page accepted[edit]

how to get your wiki page live and accepted and how much time it takes to get your page live — Preceding unsigned comment added by Patni.Aditya (talkcontribs) 08:39, 22 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Patni.Aditya: on the assumption this relates to Draft:Kyvos Insights the review notice contains the information that it could be up to 8 weeks before it is considered for acceptance. In the meantime some useful links have been left at your talk page and you should study those carefully and improve the article accordingly. References should be placed inline at the point in the text they refer to. The article could be seen as promotional (which will mean it is very likely to be rejected) and some minor adjustment may be necessary. If you have a connection to the company you must read WP:COI and WP:PAID and make any necessary disclosures. Please remember to sign your posts on talk pages by typing four tildes (~~~~). Thank you. Eagleash (talk) 09:16, 22 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Eagleash: While you took care to describe/explain possible problems to Patni Aditya, Yunshui blocked indefinitely the account ([4]), so the author probably will be unable to follow your advice... --CiaPan (talk) 15:11, 22 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@CiaPan: Yes, I noticed it was blocked shortly after I posted here, and at the TP. I felt it was a bit on the rapid side and agree there was no opportunity for the OP to address the issues. Eagleash (talk) 15:52, 22 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Reminders to self?[edit]

From time to time I propose things on talk pages (or similarly via, say, Mergeto/Mergefrom templates on articles) with the intention of going ahead at a suitable future time, typically a few days or a couple of weeks. (Unless, of course, there is debate whose consensus is against.) Very often, there is no feedback whatsoever; this I would intend to interpret as tacit approval to proceed. But... then it slips my all-too-human mind and I forget to follow up.

Is there some sort of reminder-to-self function that can be set to notify me that the intended period has elapsed? It might be something like "{{remind-me|period=7days}}". Feline Hymnic (talk) 12:36, 22 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

You can write a note to yourself on your user page – or on a subpage of your user page such as User:Feline Hymnic/reminders. Maproom (talk) 14:57, 22 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I was wondering if there was a more formal, common mechanism, generically useable, that could issue notifications, like when a "thank" is issued from a revision-history page, or when a {{reply|UserFoo}} is done. The delivery mechanism would be something like the notification. Its trigger (driven from MediaWiki software perhaps?) would be after a specified time-delay.
My day-job involves software development (including a few major open-source projects) and taking ideas, perhaps from users, and if deemed useful then generalising them and implementing them. This "remind me in a few days" idea just seems potentially quite useful to many users.
If it (or something similar) is not already available, where might I propose it, please?
Feline Hymnic (talk) 15:46, 22 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
A good place to ultimately propose it is Wikipedia:Village_pump_(proposals), although I'm a big fan of starting at Wikipedia:Village_pump_(idea_lab) to work out potential kinks before formally proposing something.--S Philbrick(Talk) 17:26, 22 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

How do I uncreate an article[edit]

I recently started an article, List of murals in the United States but realized that I was not up for it, so emptied it out - there was no content just an empty chart. There is no reason to have an empty article, so what can be done? Carptrash (talk) 21:01, 22 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Carptrash: I've deleted it for you. In the future, you can use {{db-self}} to delete a page that only you've substantially edited. I can also move it to a user page for you, like User:Carptrash/List of murals in the United States, if you'd like (although this is somewhat dependent on when you get back to me, when I see this message, etc). Ian.thomson (talk) 21:14, 22 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you @Ian.thomson: deleted is good enough. I have another related project that I started here but am not going to continue and I doubt if anyone else is, so I shall try out some of these techniques you have pointed me at. Thanks again, Einar aka Carptrash (talk) 18:50, 23 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Question about adding a business profile listing[edit]

Hi,

I run a wellness publication called The Hearty Soul and am looking to create a presence on Wikipedia for our site similar to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_New_York_Times https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Washington_Post

We are a relatively young publication and are looking to create a profile for reference purposes and to document our growth and milestones as opposed to advertising. I know that wikipedia has strict anti-advertising policies so would like some guidance on te best way to move forward.

I appreciate the community's assistance on this matter. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Moq.hasan (talkcontribs) 22:18, 22 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Moq.hasan: I've yet to use a use of the phrase "create a presence" that wasn't a euphemism for promotion. I am willing to believe that you sincerely believe these are somehow different things and that you seem to misunderstand what Wikipedia is and how it works.
Wikipedia is an encyclopedia that cites, summarizes, and paraphrases professionally-published mainstream academic or journalistic sources that are independent of the topic but still specifically about it. Wikipedia is not a directory, we don't do "profiles." Our articles about the New York Times and the Washington Post were not written by nor for employees of those publications.
We also don't hold back on what reliable sources say about a topic. That would mean we would have to include criticism of the publication (and given that kind of criticism, the discretionary sanctions for alternative medicine and pseudoscience would apply to any attempts to edit the article).
Also, we do not allow shared accounts. When I say "we," I'm referring to this community. When you say "we," that raises questions. Ian.thomson (talk) 22:31, 22 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Ian.thomson, Thanks for clarifying. I clearly have misunderstood the basis for Wikipedia and I appreciate your clarification. I assumed that the listings for New York Times was created by the organization themselves. Regarding your point about using the term "we" - I am referring to myself and my staff that work on the site. Having said that, I am aware of the mediabiasfactcheck review and I am in the process of addressing the rating given to the Site.

I sincerely appreciate your help and clarification. I'll continue to work on reputation management with mediabiasfactcheck. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Moq.hasan (talkcontribs) 22:46, 22 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, @Moq.hasan: I found another reliable source about your publication. If I could find one more, I might be able to start a stub article that reads something like:

The Hearty Soul is a clickbait[1] site noted for spreading pseudoscience,[2] especially pseudoscience related to Alternative medicine.[1][2] In 2016, it presented an Indian satirical news story about a fisherman surviving in a whale's stomach for three days as true, from whence it spread to other Fake news sites.[1] Noted pseudomedicine advocate Joseph Mercola is featured prominently on the site.[2]

Assuming I can find a third independent reliable source, would this be acceptable? Ian.thomson (talk) 22:49, 22 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
