February 27[edit]

My father[edit]

Dear editor,

Thank you for the article regarding my great father. I wish to make a suggestion and would be grateful for a positive response. My father was from a wealthy Kandyan family, it is an important factor so please consider amending and adding this fact.

Thank you very much

Yours sincerely Dr IMRC Iriyagolle(Daughter) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.140.162.188 (talk) 03:39, 27 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The place to propose improvements is on the article talk page, supporting your proposal by reference to published independent reliable sources. --David Biddulph (talk) 04:34, 27 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Also including your father's name or the name of the article in question will allow a perhaps better response. Carptrash (talk) 18:48, 27 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

ronak dattani[edit]

Ronak Dattani is a good citizen. "I can tell you about anything you ask me about myself though you will nwver the original me" he said these golden words. 103.238.15.156 (talk) 07:21, 27 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. Do you have a question about editing Wikipedia? That is what this page is for. If you are suggesting an article about Dattani, please look at requested articles, or your first article if you are thinking of writing one yourself. --ColinFine (talk) 11:28, 27 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Reporting inaccurate information and requirement of necessary edits[edit]

Hello

As present in Wikipedia page about "Mujaddid", Ghulam Ahmad (the founder of Qadiyanis) has been included among the mujaddids while he has been declared as Kafir or non Muslim by scholars. So, make the necessary corrections.

Also, write (alaihi salatu wa salam) after the name of Prophets (alaihim Salatu wa salam) where mentioned.

Thanks — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2402:8100:200E:4B4A:EB15:817A:1AEF:64F0 (talk) 08:14, 27 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The article Mujaddid has a "List of claimants and potential Mujaddids". Mirza Ghulam Ahmad did claim to be a mujaddid, so he is included in the list.
Wikipedia policy is to omit phrases such as "alaihi salatu wa salam": see this advice. Maproom (talk) 08:34, 27 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Reference links issue[edit]

Whenever I publish a reference, it gets published but not in a proper way, it doesn't gets included in list. For eg: If there, in any article last reference is 26, if I want to give reference then it will not take place of 27 but it will be 1 in its own list. How to give a reference properly? Replying to Administrators' noticeboard/incident post[edit]

Another user has posted on the Administrators' noticeboard/incident page applying to have me blocked from editing a new page. How do I reply to that user's post? [1]Onward&Upward (talk) 14:13, 27 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

You just edit the section where you need to reply (click the little blue [edit] next to the title of the correct section). --Jayron32 14:24, 27 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

How to edit on Wikipedia?[edit]

Hello my name is Collen and I am clueless about editing an article on Wikipedia. Is there any difference between editing and contributing or they just the same thing? If they differ then how to edit on Wikipedia? Should I add my knowledge to any article that I think is too brief or ...?

I actually want to contribute or share some knowledge about African jargons. There's a lot of existing words, activities and phenomenons that are not yet explained on the net. How can I write them on wiki so that everyone can read and learn or add more. Just for the love of knowledge. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bogopa Collen (talkcontribs) 14:13, 27 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Excellent @Bogopa Collen: and welcome to Wikipedia! Wikipedia:Introduction has a good overview that may answer many of your questions. A few things to help answer your direct questions here. 1) Editors and contributors mean the same thing, we're all just people who are interested in helping make Wikipedia better. That's the only qualification. 2) As far as adding information to Wikipedia, it's important that information has a reliable source that you can cite so that future readers know how to verify the information should they have any questions. You should be bold in your editing, but avoid edit warring with other editors if they raise objections; listen to experienced editors, don't be afraid to screw up, but also be willing to take instruction, and you'll do fine around here. If you have any specific technical questions, feel free to ask anytime. You may also want to check out Wikipedia:Teahouse, another help venue at Wikipedia which is more geared towards helping walk new users through their early experience at Wikipedia. Good luck, and if there is anything we can do to help, let us know! --Jayron32 14:23, 27 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Welcome template with some helpful links left on talk page. Matt Deres (talk) 14:46, 27 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Could you Please check my article Renato Valentim. The article continues like a Draft since a creat it. Could change it to article mode.

Tanks.

Marcelo Nascimento — Preceding unsigned comment added by Marcelobarao123 (talkcontribs) 15:47, 27 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

You need to sort out your referencing, see Help:Referencing for beginners, and you also need to removed the misplaced external links. It would also be wise for you to read the advice at WP:Your first article, which is one of the links in the welcome message on your user talk page. --David Biddulph (talk) 16:43, 27 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
And when done with that, add {{subst:Submit}} on a blank, first line in the draft and save it. Articles for Creation is heavily backlogged for the moment, so it could take some time before the draft is reviewed. Sam Sailor 17:52, 27 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Marcelobarao123: Welcome to Wikipedia! In addition to what David Biddulph mentioned, I see that the grammar in the article needs some polishing. Did you translate the text from pt:Renato Valentim in Portuguese Wikipedia, by any chance? If so, the content needs to be attributed; see Translating from other language Wikimedia projects for more information. –FlyingAce✈hello 17:57, 27 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Bots[edit]

I want to know what are bots and why would someone make one — Preceding unsigned comment added by CanadiaNinja (talkcontribs) 16:53, 27 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@CanadianNinja: They are programs designed to perform routine maintenance tasks or where a small change is required to a large number of articles. An example is 'sinebot' which signed your post for you! Also please don't ask the same question in multiple locations. Thank you. Eagleash (talk) 17:10, 27 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Infoboxes[edit]

How do I create an infobox? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tj2007 (talkcontribs) 16:55, 27 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Tj2007: Please see MOS:IBX for more information and see WP:IB for a list of available templates. Choose the most appropriate one and complete as many of the fields as you can. Another way to create one is to find an article about a similar topic and C&P the infobox template and change the information at the article or draft that you are working on. Eagleash (talk) 17:05, 27 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I am working on the List of Top 40 songs from films article[edit]

and have come to the point where I need to deal with the music from the James Bond films. I have discovered the James Bond music article and rather then just copying all the info from it would like to use one of those “For the music from the James Bond films see James Bond music,” at the beginning of the article but am not sure what format or template to use. Do you have some recommendation? Einar aka Carptrash (talk) 18:46, 27 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Use {{main|James Bond music}} in the appropriate place. ‑ Iridescent 19:13, 27 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

HOW LONG WILL MY EDITS ON A PAGE TAKE TO SHOW UP?[edit]

HOW LONG WILL MY EDITS ON A PAGE TAKE TO SHOW UP? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Zohar1756 (talkcontribs) 19:08, 27 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Your edits are live the moment you make them. It sometimes takes a few minutes (or even hours) for them to show up on a Google search, if that's what you mean. ‑ Iridescent 19:09, 27 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
However, your edits to Lucy Walsh were automatically reverted one minute after you made them. Your edit summary said "additional information", but in fact you removed a lot of content, including both the references in the article. Maproom (talk) 19:14, 27 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
(edit conflict) @Zoha1756: If you are referring to your edit at Lucy Walsh, your changes were reverted one minute after you made them as they were unconstructive, did not conform to Wikipedia's Manual of Style, removed referenced material and also added links to social media which is something that is not acceptable. Please take the time to read the helpful links previously left at your talk page. Thank you. Eagleash (talk) 19:20, 27 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
And were copyright violations copied and pasted from elsewhere online. GMGtalk 19:29, 27 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Password[edit]

How can I change the password associated with my Wikipedia account? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Rwalsh6019 (talkcontribs) 19:38, 27 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Rwalsh6019: In Special:Preferences, you'll find "Change Password" in the basic information section. Ian.thomson (talk) 19:47, 27 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

On Firefox browser for iPad sidebar has no file upload option[edit]

According to the help page when I select the sidebar using the icon I get a list of options including file upload. The sidebar that appears on Firefox browser for iPad has login or logout options but no option for uploading of files — Preceding unsigned comment added by Adrian816 (talkcontribs) 20:16, 27 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

If you are in "Mobile view" and that doesn't have the options you need, there is hopefully a "Desktop view" option at the very bottom of the page. --David Biddulph (talk) 20:27, 27 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Referencing errors on Revolution Media[edit]

Reference help requested.

Thanks, Aliya Pr (talk) 21:30, 27 February 2018 (UTC) Looking new file name?? How to create new name of wikipedia!?[reply]

@Aliyahasan: Can you clarify what you are asking for help with? The link in your heading appears to be broken and I was not able to tell from your contributions if there was a particular page where you were encountering difficulty. If you are asking about creating a new Wikipedia page then please see WP:YFA and also WP:AfC and WP:WIZ. Thank you. Eagleash (talk) 22:20, 27 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
If you are looking to again create a page for Revolution Media, I would very much recommend that you do not. This would be considered tendentious editing and would probably land you in difficulty leading to possible loss of editing privileges. Eagleash (talk) 22:26, 27 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

How do you make new pages?[edit]

Read the subject. — Preceding unsigned comment added by CrazyMinecart88 (talkcontribs) 21:44, 27 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@CrazyMinecart88: See WP:YFA for how to create a new article. There is a wizard there you use to create a draft for review. If you are new to Wikipedia, the usual advice is to get experience by editing existing pages first, since creating a new article is not an easy task for newcomers. RudolfRed (talk) 21:52, 27 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Report an article[edit]

How do you report an article for plagiarism? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Higginsal (talkcontribs) 23:27, 27 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Higginsal: Well first I would suggest trying to paraphrase and fix it yourself but if you don't have time, knowledge, or resources than you can add this tag (WP:G12). HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 23:30, 27 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I want to add that if the entire page isn't copyrighted than add this HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 23:35, 27 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Higginsal: If you're going to rewrite the text please also notify an administrator (me, for instance) so we can remove the copyright violation from public view. There are templates you can use to do this but posting to an admin's page is easier for new editors. --NeilN talk to me 23:41, 27 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
