2 problems - Please place the new refs ABOVE the blue VTE box. Please also fix up the red link on the Laird page in the "Traditional and current styles" section. Thanks - I cannot do this. 175.33.198.186 (talk) 07:00, 21 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Done @175.33.198.186: The references were fixed up by Cmr08 adding a {{reflist}} template at the place where the list of references should go. --Gronk Oz (talk) 08:07, 21 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Is this original research or not?[edit]

I was editing Blacks in Liverpool, but before doing so, I was considering adding a link to a Google Street View capture of a street with many Afro-Caribbean-owned stores.

I know about Wikipedia:No original research, but is Google Street View a reliable source or original research? --Chelston-temp-1 (talk) 09:31, 21 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • In general, an external link is not original research. Also in general, a photograph is considered (at least in Commons) to be reliable. In my opinion, Google Street View is a reliable source: The provenance of those pictures is a lot better documented than the provenance of a typical picture on Commons. Unless you make inferences in the text you write about it, there is no original research here. The "original research" would be the inference that these stores are "Afro-Caribbean-owned". That assertion must be backed up by a reliable source. -Arch dude (talk) 14:53, 21 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I have no idea where to ask the question. However, the article was recently influx of accusation and tabloid journalism material from ip user, anywhere to find help to read the original Italian citation and cleanup the article? Matthew_hk tc 15:44, 21 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • Discuss content issues on the articles's talk page. Please start by assuming that the other guy is trying to do the right thing (WP:AGF), even if (or especially if) the first comments appear to be contentious. If you cannot reach a consensus there, then follow the procedures at WP:DISPUTE. For help with translation, look at Wikipedia:Translators available. I have not used it, so I'm not sure that's the right lace, but they can probably direct you as needed. -Arch dude (talk) 16:30, 21 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

How to change a heading[edit]

I have been editing Dorset Green Technology Park (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dorset_Green_Technology_Park) to show that it is now called Dorset Innovation Park. But I can't change the title. Is it better to create a new 'Dorset Innovation Park' wiki page and recreate my edits?

Thanks, Sarah — Preceding unsigned comment added by Powellpisareva (talkcontribs) 15:52, 21 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Start by reading WP:COI and WP:PAID. Ian.thomson (talk) 15:54, 21 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
And do not create a new page. Articles must be moved to change name. PrimeHunter (talk) 16:00, 21 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
The title of an article should be the name most commonly used for it, rather than its "official" name. None of the references in that article uses the name "Dorset Innovation Park". Maproom (talk) 16:37, 21 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Crating a new Wikipedia page about myself/channel[edit]

Apologies in advance if I'm asking in the wrong section, but I was wondering where I can find the guidelines if I wanted to create a Wikipedia page about myself/my youtube channel. Is this even allowed? — Preceding unsigned comment added by YummyCarrot (talkcontribs) 16:28, 21 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, YummyCarrot. Per Wikipedia:Autobiography, this is strongly discouraged. If you or your own Youtube channel meet Wikipedia:Notability, there's a good chance someone else will write about it. Home Lander (talk) 16:31, 21 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

wikilinks[edit]

How do I wikilink Bible texts? I have been told to do so by my GA reviewer. Jenhawk777 (talk) 18:09, 21 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • Many versions of the Bible are available in many places in the Internet. Our sister project, Wikisource, has many, at s:Bible. A sample link looks like this: s:Bible (King James)/Psalms#Psalm 23. You will probably want something like this: [[s:Bible (King James)/Psalms#Psalm 23|Psalms:23]], which will display as Psalms:23-Arch dude (talk) 19:20, 21 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you so much!! I had no idea this could even be done when my reviewer told me to do it. I said YIKES and tried not to panic! You have saved my vegetarian bacon! :-) Jenhawk777 (talk) 03:11, 22 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Incorrect info[edit]

{{request edit}} Hey Help Desk Team,

We are in the process of updating our company's digital presence and we're having some problems with Google pulling in incorrect information from Wikipedia.

Our company, Helix TCS Inc, provides technology, compliance and security services, however when running a Google search for our stock symbol (HLIX), Wikipedia is displaying information for a restaurant company, Spicy Pickle. In order for Google to update our search results, we have to update our company page in Wikipedia.

How might we go about updating our company page so that Google pulls the correct information about our company?

Thank you in advance for your help!

  • That's a new one. We have no control over what Google displays. They pull info from wherever they want to to build that box that they display. We can usually guess where in Wikipedia they pulled the info and why, but I sure can't find the connection in this case. Do you have a particular one of our 5.6 million articles in mind? -Arch dude (talk) 19:00, 21 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Yuo can ask Google to fix this. Click on the tiny little gray "feedback" link below the right-hand lower corner of their silly box. -Arch dude (talk) 19:09, 21 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Etta place[edit]

Get it right ,do your research, Etta Place, wasn't born in Texas. She was born in Montclair PA.. my grandma Helen place, grew Up in the same house. . Research. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2600:1:C515:E742:D064:B1A3:456E:3A78 (talk) 19:12, 21 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • Welcome to Wikipedia, the encyclopedia anyone can edit. "Anyone" includes you. We are all volunteers here, and each of us edits whatever we feel like. Most of us do not react well to being scolded and will just ignore you and go to some other problem area. If you see a problem, feel free to fix it, If you can find a reference in something we call a reliable source: see WP:RS. We can't just take your word for it: for all we know you are a scammer of some sort. If you are uncomfortable with editing the article, make a suggestion on that article's talk page. -Arch dude (talk) 19:28, 21 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
The article Etta Place does not mention a birth place. It only states that she lived in Texas. It does mention several women who might be the basis for Place. It could use better sourcing. MarnetteD|Talk 19:45, 21 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
It appears that OP didn't didn't do their research. A google search for Etta Place does list Texas as a birth state, and many people mistakenly assume the information came from Wikipedia. It did not.--S Philbrick(Talk) 20:04, 21 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Indeed. The most our article says is:
"According to a memorandum from the Pinkerton Detective Agency, dated July 29, 1902, she was "said ... to be from Texas".
If the OP has any information published in a Reliable Source as to where she actually came from, we (and many historians) would be very grateful for it. For obvious reasons, what some anonymous person on the Internet claims that his/her grandma once told him/her does not cut it as a published reliable source that others can consult, even if the claim is true and the grandma was both honest and correct. {The poster formerly known as 87.81.230.195} 2.125.75.224 (talk) 08:53, 22 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Unwatching talk pages[edit]

Is it possible to unwatch talk pages, but still watch the article?💵Money💵emoji💵💸 19:51, 21 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Only by editing a css page for your account to hide individual entries in the watchlist. Your css is public. See Help:Hide Pages in Watchlist. PrimeHunter (talk) 21:01, 21 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Formatting biographies[edit]

Does somebody know how to format the type of content that appears on the side of the article in the frame? Like in the celebrities biographies where we can see a photo, caption, and some details below (born, occupation, children,...) It would be great if there is a way in "visual editing." — Preceding unsigned comment added by HisroyK (talkcontribs) 22:27, 21 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Click on the box in Visual Editor and a link to edit its details should appear. Alternatively, you can edit the details in source mode. TeraTIX 23:34, 21 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@HisroyK: I'm not sure what you mean by "format". You can generally only fill out text fields and add images in infoboxes, not change the formatting which is controlled by code in the infobox template. PrimeHunter (talk) 23:50, 21 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I have failed in my attempt to add a file - photograph - on this page. Please help repair. Thankyou 175.33.198.186 (talk) 04:30, 22 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I am still failing - but thankyou for the encouragement and I actually got it right last time I added a file to a page - but I have had to give up on this one. Please help if you can. Thanks175.33.198.186 (talk) 05:08, 22 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I have added it with [[File:Aylmer Hunter-Weston.jpg|thumb|Aylmer Hunter-Weston]].[1] PrimeHunter (talk) 09:26, 22 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

1990s called, why can’t I ask a question?[edit]

Hello, this is the 1990s. I’d like to know why this website still looks like something I built in my basement? Please kindly reply to me. Thank you very much. Also, do note, Mosaic is no longer popular so neither should this ugly design theme be. Automatically remove red links from page[edit]

Hi all,

I have been looking around (Inlcuding in the WP:WikiProject Red Link Recovery) for information on how to remove all red links from an article (The article in question 2002 WPA World Nine-ball Championship, was translated from the German Wikipedia; which has red links, and more pool players on), as the ones that have been translated are non-notable. The only thing I've seen is that it may be possible via AWB; but didn't go into details. Is there any way to change this information (as I may need to use this more than once, and manually it's quite the job)? Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 11:45, 21 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Please note, I also posted this question on the Help talk:Link, page; but I saw it wasn't particularly active, so re-posted here. If I recieve a response, I'll remove the question. Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 09:36, 22 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Lee Vilenski Hi. Try asking the question at the Guild of Copy Editors. Please don't remove the question. Thinker78 (talk) 22:24, 24 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I answered there, repeated here for those who don't know:
Hi, Lee, why would you want to do that? Remove all, I mean. I translate from German a lot, have the German article in a second window and decide case-by-case like this:
  • If a link is red in German, I remove it (unless I think it may soon be created in English).
  • If a link is blue, I create an ill-link ({{ill}}), and encourage everybody to do the same. It shows that the subject is notable in German (or some other language), it offers a direct link to that other article for those who read the language, and it automatically turns to a normal blue link when created in English. If you want to be extra helpful you don't simply use the German article name but the best name for the English Wikipedia. Examples in most of "my" articles, look at Volker David Kirchner (on his birthday) ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 10:15, 25 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
