Pat Benatar/ Hammersmith[edit]

The Pat Benatar page has 2 (errors). I don’t know what is correct info. Hammersmith made the last (significant) change: is it possible to contact (him)?

Thank you for raising these points. Hammersoft only reverted vandalism. A better course would be to put your points at the article's talk page where anyone interested in the topic will see it. In the prior helpdesk topic you linked to, it said you cannot log in using Firefox 43.0.1, but you can log in using Internet Explorer. If this is still the case, you should probably update your Firefox, as a whole lot has happened since the 43.0.1 release. Take a look at our article: Firefox version history. Sorting an editing history[edit]

I've begun to enter content from the medical journal-BMJ. I would like to keep track of the edit summaries that I write and be able to count my edit summaries that contain "BMJ". Best Regards, Barbara ✐ ✉ 14:45, 12 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Barbara - your last 500 pages can be searched using the "Edit summary search" at the foot of your "contributions" page - This currently has 12 matches to BMJ going back to October 2015. As for whether that can be expanded beyond 500 pages - I don't know - Arjayay (talk) 15:00, 12 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

That's a cool feature that I did not know about. There is a "next 500 results" link at the bottom of the list returned by the search, or you can edit the URL to change the 500 to a larger number, and then bookmark your modified URL to use later. -Arch dude (talk) 16:09, 12 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Duplicate name on wikipedia[edit]

I wish to start an article on Fiona MacDonald an opera singer and founder of Scottish charity Bravehound and Glen Art. As there is already a Fiona MacDonald on wikipedia how would I title her?... Fiona MacDonald (philanthropist)?

I'd recomment starting an article as a Draft at Draft:Fiona McDonald (opera singer) and put it in for review, when accepted, the person who accepts should work with you to create a disambiguation page that can point to both women and move the existing appropriately (They look like they have similar levels of notability.)Naraht (talk) 15:28, 12 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

My opinions: Fiona MacDonald (philanthropist) works as a title, as she appears to be more notable in that role than as an opera singer. I briefly looked at your references:they appear to be mostly about Glen Art and Bravehound, abd Bravehound is part of Glen Art. I think we need an article on Glen Art, and possibly Bravehound should be merged into it, although Bravehound surely meets our notability criteria all by itself. If Fiona MacDonald is notable primarily because of Glen Art/Bravehound, she should have a section in the Glen Art article instead of a separate article. If she is separately notable, a separate article is the better choice. "Separately notable" to me would be articles in reliable sources about her operatic career, for example. Utica, NY page is wrong[edit]

The page on Utica, NY is wrong and someone keeps changing it back to being wrong after I correct it.

The reason Utica was called "the Sin City of the East" is due to the Salvatore Falcone mafia organzation; NOT politician Rufus Elefante. (who may or may not have been under Falcone's influence.)

Additionally, the Utica School of Commerce has been defunct for some time.

Hey anon. What it looks like you did, was remove a substantial amount of sourced information, and replaced it with content cited only to a wikia. Wikia is user generated and so does not meet our standards for reliability. Furthermore, if you have a dispute over article content, you are expected to discuss the issue on the article talk page and reach a consensus. You are also expected to remain civil, which does not include comments like Fixed the bullshit that some jerkkeeps putting in. GMG ^talk 19:16, 12 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

[Edit Conflict] The references to Rufus Elefante in our article on Utica, New York have multiple citations to (what are hopefully) reliable sources. The link you provide above (a) does not assert that Salvatore Falcone and colleagues were the sole reason for the nickname, and (b) is itself a Wiki site, editable by contributors, which is not acceptable as a reliable source on Wikipedia.

Your point about the Utica School of Commerce being defunct is corroborated in its own article (Reference 2), so modification of the Utica, New York article on the basis of that same reference source should be uncontroversial, if not carried out in a confrontational manner. {The poster formerly known as 87.81.230.195} 90.211.131.202 (talk) 19:18, 12 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Process for dealing with advocacy?[edit]

Need help to make sure I handle a situation properly.

An editor has a long history of working on a particular article and related talk page. His contributions on the article page are almost always recisions of edits that are critical of the subject. His talk page posts consistently advocate against content critical of the subject, and are often hostile to editors whose opinions differ from his. That's about it -- I don't believe he has made any consequential contributions to improving the content of the article.

Of note, the article is subject to discretionary sanctions.

Following the recommendation at WP:Advocacy, I put a message on his user talk page, suggesting that if he couldn't handle the subject neutrally, perhaps he should refrain from editing the article. He replied, saying "troll someplace else."

This is *not* a content dispute. It is an issue of an editor who has a long history of disruptive editing, and who has shown no inclination to change.

What is the proper path forward, to address this situation?

Judging from the note he left on my talk page, the OP is talking about me. He fails to present even any balance in stating the case here. There isn't a single position I've "advocated" that didn't have the support of ither editors. Yet I'm not seeing similar notices at their pages. Perhaps that's why he got the reaction that he did. Without wading into any underlying dispute, Cinteotl is correct in that the help desk is not the place to hash out a dispute. They were seeking information on what venue would be appropriate to bring up the underlying issue. They very specifically did not mention you by name because it was a "how to" question, not an attempt at dispute resolution. If the underlying matter is presented at WP:ANI, you will of course be given ample opportunity to respond to any issues raised, rebut any accusations, etc. tubedogg (talk) 22:41, 15 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
