[edit]Issue with text vanishing in user sandbox preview and article, while still appearing in the editor.
[edit]I am currently working in my personal sandbox to build an article. While I was working on it today, I started having a weird issue, where a section of the page just vanished from the preview and final page when work was saved. All of the text and elements are present in the editor and there's no <!-- --> in that area of the page. I'm not sure if I've made a mistake in the formatting or if it's a glitch of some kind.--The Navigators (talk)-May British Rail Rest in Peace. 02:53, 17 November 2018 (UTC)
- I fixed two errors in the reference syntax.[1] PrimeHunter (talk) 03:05, 17 November 2018 (UTC)
- Thanks, I'm still learning to do more advanced references. (Issue is resolved.)--The Navigators (talk)-May British Rail Rest in Peace. 03:24, 17 November 2018 (UTC)
How to add a red link to person/thing that doesn't have a page but has disambiguation/same name page already existent
[edit]Not sure if title is correct so I'll just describe the problem. It's happened twice where there's been a name of a person that deserves a link to a page that doesn't exist yet (red link) but can't do it because there is already a page with that name (different person same name). Can someone point me int he right direction? Happy to elaborate further. Thanks you. Skinnytony1 (talk) 02:56, 17 November 2018 (UTC)
Suzy Smith (adventurer) using whatever you guess will be the DAB. Legacypac (talk) 03:04, 17 November 2018 (UTC)
- And write
[[Suzy Smith (adventurer)|Suzy Smith]]
to produce Suzy Smith. You can click "What links here" at Suzy Smith (adventurer) to see whether others have added the same red link. PrimeHunter (talk) 03:10, 17 November 2018 (UTC)- Thank you Skinnytony1 (talk) 11:14, 7 December 2018 (UTC)
Userbox image addition
[edit]How can I add File:ProhibitionSign2.svg to a standard userbox? Clarityfiend (talk) 05:11, 17 November 2018 (UTC)
- @Clarityfiend: In
{{userbox}}
, change the parameter "id" (|id=
) to the image you want (with size). ―Abelmoschus Esculentus 05:13, 17 November 2018 (UTC)- I tried that already with the image. All I got was the image title. Which field controls the size (and doesn't it have a default)? Clarityfiend (talk) 06:00, 17 November 2018 (UTC)
- Okay, I got the image to show up by linking the picture, but it's showing up very large. How do I shrink it? Clarityfiend (talk) 08:26, 17 November 2018 (UTC)
- @Clarityfiend: You need to set the size as part of the "File" syntax. For example at User:John of Reading/Userboxes I have
|id = [[File:Bass clef.svg|42x42px]]
-- John of Reading (talk) 08:46, 17 November 2018 (UTC)- That worked. Thanks x2. Clarityfiend (talk) 08:56, 17 November 2018 (UTC)

- This is the Help desk for questions about editing Wikipedia. We do not give medical advice. – Teratix ₵ 08:55, 17 November 2018 (UTC)
You might want to try asking this on the Reference Desk but make sure to phrase it from a hypothetical standpoint due to Wikipedia:Reference desk/Guidelines/Medical advice. Also look into the ketogenic diet and read "The Diabetes Code" by Dr. Jason Fung. EniaNey 09:50, 17 November 2018 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by EniaNey (talk • contribs)
- It will be hard for this user to re-ask their question hypothetically since they asked it specifically in reference to themselves here. 331dot (talk) 09:54, 17 November 2018 (UTC)
Footnotes, citations, other types of references - no standards for order and naming?
[edit]There seems to be a huge variation in how the various types of references, including See Alsos to other Wiki articles, are named and listed. I have looked at a fair number of entries and also sought guidance from the various help pages, but there does not seem to be a clear standard set, as far as I can see, for either the order (sequence) of listing these sections or the headings for each. (Help:Footnotes comes closest I think.)
In my mind, footnote refers to a free-form explanatory note about something (which may or may not include a citation), whereas the citations usually referred to as References may be better referred to as "In-line citations" or something like that. It could be argued that the See also links rightly belong either before or after these two, but I think that the Notes/Footnotes probably belong first. Then there are External Links and Bibliography and/or Other References... Is there any discussion about this anywhere that I can have a look at, or can this matter be raised in a bid to create some standards for how these items are listed at the end of an article? Adminship
[edit]Besides being autoconfirmed, what are the requirements to be an admin? How do you request for adminship? KJ2574 09:24, 17 November 2018 (UTC)
- @KJ2574: There are no specific requirements to be an administrator, but in general you must be able to demonstrate that you are knowledgeable in Wikipedia policies/guidelines, have a good temperament, and have made a positive contribution to this project. It usually takes at least a year, if not more, to build up such a history. (I was here six years before being considered.) Requests for adminship are made at WP:RFA, where they are discussed and voted on by the community. You can nominate yourself, but it is usually a good thing to have one or two others nominate you. Looking at your edit history and the fact that you have not been a registered user long, the chances of you succeeding at this time are low, and as such I would encourage you not to attempt it at this time. If at some point in the future you want to, I would suggest reviewing some of the materials suggested at WP:RFA and also reviewing some prior nominations to get a feel for what is being looked for. Keep in mind that you don't need to be an administrator to do the vast majority of work here. 331dot (talk) 09:31, 17 November 2018 (UTC)
- (edit conflict) @KJ2574: Admins deal with vandals, sockpuppets and straight-up trolls all the time. They are among the most belittled members of the community. Work on articles instead, it's much more fun. – Teratix ₵ 09:37, 17 November 2018 (UTC)
- And now they've been blocked as a sockpuppet.--SkyGazer 512 Oh no, what did I do this time? 15:41, 17 November 2018 (UTC)
- That's not a good way to become an admin. ―Abelmoschus Esculentus 06:53, 18 November 2018 (UTC)

Referencing errors on Ben Gurion Airport
[edit]Reference help requested.
I am not aware of having visited or edited the relevant page on that date and I would expect that my IP address will have changed since then. As the edit would have been by another user and I am not an expert on the subject or aware of what errors may have been introduced I cannot correct any errors but would hope that another user will be able to. Thanks, 84.51.133.200 (talk) 15:36, 17 November 2018 (UTC)

- The edit concerned was three years ago. There are no ref errors currently flagged at Ben Gurion Airport. Eagleash (talk) 16:22, 17 November 2018 (UTC)
